Torrag will delay until after Hugh goes.
"Hugh, I can get you out of its grasp after you get your attacks off!"
To everyone, "I can dismiss the Black Tentacles when we're ready to go after the portal."
Would a Knowledge or Spellcraft check get me some information on how to disable the portal?
GM Erich

Those types of skills will be useful in completing the ritual to close it once this guardian is dealt with.
Hugh Veridian

Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
I'm not sure if the baddy is visibly ghost-like i.e. incorporeal, so:
Hugh tries desperately to wriggle free from the horrid thing's arms.
"Get of o' me!"
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18
Hugh gives the horrid thing a cruel smile.
"I got ya right where I want ya..."
Attack, grapple, flanking: 1d20 + 13 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 13 - 2 + 2 = 31
Damage, grapple: 1d6 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 7 - 2 = 7 +Sneak Attack: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4, 6) = 17
Crit?: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
Extra Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Attack, grapple, flanking: 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 - 2 + 2 = 15
Damage, grapple: 1d6 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 7 - 2 = 9 +Sneak Attack: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 2, 4) = 13
If any of the sneak attacks succeed, the thing takes 4 points of bleed damage and is disoriented.

Just plain undead, except a flying one, which is pretty rare.
Laara
|
Laara continued to eye the forest around the stones warily - up until the monstrosity burst out in front of High.
Oh no you don't! she yells as she flies as quick as she can towards the other rogue, dropping her bow once she is safely over the clean ground.
I think with fly's 60 foot speed I can get to flying flank with Hugh as on the map. If not, ignore the below and it's a double move.
As Chaine's lance tries to spear it, the brawler ducks past branches to deliver a follow-up punch as the lance retracts.
attack: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 15 + 2 = 31 for damage: 1d6 + 8 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 8 + (5, 3) = 20
Again, assumes flank, flanking and Sneak Attack stuff should be easy to see and adjust if needed

Precise Strike and Lion's Call in effect folks- unless you don't care about the extra d6 dmg and +1 to hit...

If the creature is still alive: Torrag will move through the rock using Earth Glide, and touch Hugh on the back, casting Stoneskin on him (using Arcane Bond).

Grim flies in for an attack, casting divine favor as a swift action using fervor. No flanking though.

Iskar grants Chaine more power, and the archon races through the trees to the evil. Torrag fortifies the rogue with plated skin as his hand suddenly juts from the boulder behind. Chaine upon Silvermane make a darting path through the thick underbrush, finishing up with a stretched plunge of the lance toward the creature's back. Surprisingly, the creature spins Hugh around, trying to use him for cover, but the lance penetrates the vile beast still.
Grim's attack from above strikes as well, causing a gash to open above its shoulder. As it writhes, Hugh is able to plunge his rapier into its chest cleanly, destroying whatever resides within. No blood seeps from within, though. Laara intercedes with a darting plunge and connects solidly as well.
As you all gather closer to it, you realize there is an unnatural silence aura surrounding it. DC 15 Will save to negate the silence for yourself if that should matter (sonic attacks, spells with verbal components, etc. I already did that for Torrag, since he was casting.
The enraged creature tightens its grip on Hugh, releasing the diseased goo again. The stoneskin protects him from the damage of that admirably. But with a quick snap, the tentacle detaches and wraps tightly around the rogue. DC 44! to escape the tied up condition
Need two more DC 21 Fortitude saves from Hugh or 1d3 ⇒ 2 Wisdom damage and shaken
Torrag will save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

Two questions: 1) can we 5-foot step through forest/difficult terrain? [EDIT: looked up the rules and this is a no-no; however we have the following Urgir boon --> "Each PC gains the Nimble Moves feat until the end of the adventure." Q1.2) Can Nimble Moves apply to Silvermane? and 2) can Silvermane fit under Laara? Thx!

No 5 foot steps in the forest and Laara was at ground level to be flanking, so no to 2. Unfortunately, Silvermane is not a PC, so he doesn't get the feat.

"-------------" Laara delivers a mightily profound battle cry and inspiring speech as she pummels the creature in the hopes it will drop Hugh.

GM Erich

In case it's not clear, the creature tied Hugh up with a detached tentacle (so weird), so it is not grappling anymore, and Hugh cannot provide flanking.
Chaine "The Butcher" Alazario

Chaine's attack rolls edited to remove Laara's soft cover; total attack rolls are now AC 33 and AC 27. Edit: without Hugh's flanking,
total is AC 31 and AC 25.

GM Erich

The archon attack just misses, but it is enough to distract the creature so that Chaine can quietly whack it with his lance. The creature sinks to the ground and dissipates in a blackened mess of gooey dust and fibers.
will save vs aura: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Ultimately, you are able to free Hugh from his binds. Regrettably, the disease has taken hold, and he begins to shake uncontrollably.
@Hugh Visions of the world’s imminent destruction begin to fill your thoughts
We will deal with overcoming the disease in a bit
The group moves down to the circle of stones. It is clear a ritual of some sort must be done, and quickly, before more creatures exit it.
Everyone gets to roll a single skill check they think would be applicable to conduct a spoken ritual to close up a magical rift that had both extraplanar creatures and the undead pouring out of it. Because of the evilness surrounding it, you think you could also augment the ritual by casting positive energy type spells or channeling as a part of your skill check.
If anyone has played Scenario #8–07: From the Tome of Righteous Repose with this character (and completed a similar ritual) gains a +4 circumstance bonus on your skill check.

Eyeing the rift from a safe distance, Iskar thinks back on the summoning's he's done. 'Could my breaches in time have similar effects?'
Shaking off the concern, as 'Obviously my cavalier summonings are not an issue.' He begins to ponder the potential activation rituals one would use to cause such a thing.

Torrag focuses on the magical energies of the portal.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
Torrag speaks both Abyssal and Infernal if that helps in the ritual of closing the portal.
Chaine "The Butcher" Alazario
|
Remembering that some of the ghosts had Taldor uniforms, Chaine wonders if this undead army could be drawn from unworthy or shameful souls from ancient Taldor which have not passed to the Great Beyond yet...
In his best drill instructor voice, Chaine attempts to get the ancient souls in line and shame them into moving on to the final judgement of Pharasma.
"Remember your kin, your blood, your ancestors. They watch from beyond the vaulted courts of Pharasma, anxious to see their sons and daughters accept RESPONSIBILITY! you have LIVED! and DIED! it is time you realize that, and bring back honor to your families! Return from that wretched hole and know that you have been lied to by evil powers! Such as the fiends corralling you AS WE SPEAK! GO BACK, and if you're feeling honor again, TURN ON THE FIENDS WALKING AMONG YOU!!"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (16) + 16 = 32

Hugh gets back to his feet while coughing up what sounds like half a lung.
"We sure showed him, didn't we? Let's end this mess..."
He then starts messing with the portal as well.

Laara
|
No offense, but you look a bit of a mess yourself. Laara says as she approaches Hugh. Make sure to get that looked at right after this.
Stepping up to the stones, she carefully tries to avoid the tentacles. Pulling out her Cure wand, Laara offers it to Grim. Just the normal pole, but maybe it'll help.
The fighter then begins attempting to imitate what she thinks an ancient ritual would be.
Bluff: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
Best I've got as far as Laara can tell :( Also please excuse the lack of a suitably impressive speech ala Chaine: wi-fi is spotty at best at the moment.
GM Erich

The group focuses on constructing a ritual out of whole cloth. Although it looks shaky for a few nervous moments, ultimately the rift begins to slowly close upon itself, the shadowy tentacles clawing desperately at the ground as they retreat under the cacophony of haunting screams and wails.
The evening air is suddenly quiet, save for the rushing waters nearby. Although the threat has quelled, you are not certain the ritual is complete. Perhaps only Medda will know for sure. So you wait for her to arrive.
--------

Grim heal check: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 - 2 = 22

Hugh fort save: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 6 - 2 = 241d3 ⇒ 3
So 5 total wisdom damage, not enough to kill you (yes, this disease would have killed at 0 wis)
Several hours later, Hugh begins to feel better and his mind clears from its apocalyptic thoughts.
Just the overseer's announcement left...I won't steal his thunder
Chaine "The Butcher" Alazario

When Hugh feels better, Chaine passes the wineskin to him. "Kudos for managing to stay alive with that thing, Mr. Veridian. Sunny days are ahead now, and a well-deserved vacation!"

★★★OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT★★★
As Medda and Anok join your group of Pathfinders around the stone circle, she assists you with the binding ritual. Medda thrusts Ivvora’s hilt into the portal, calling on Vildeis for aid. The shadow rift shrinks and closes, releasing a massive shock wave that knocks the Pathfinders, the Twinhorn warriors, and Medda to the ground. A field of dark, rippling energy remains, suspended above the stone altar. As Medda reaches out to pick up Ivvora’s hilt—the already broken blade now spider-webbed with new cracks—a supernatural silence descends. Only the telepathic rage of some unseen menace cuts through the quiet. “You dare to shut me out?” it rages. “I see you, but I do not see her. Where is the dwarf woman, Ivvora, who fought me so long ago? Has her mortal body failed at last? Has the realm of the living at last lost its protector? Know this: when the long shadows reach out again, I will grasp them and claw my way back into your world to see your flesh devoured by my children.”
Sound returns to the Realm of the Mammoth Lords, and Medda cautiously stands. “It seems that Eshimka still lives and has even left this foul scar on our world,” she declares. “If we are to believe its promises, the fiend will attack on the next winter solstice. If we are to survive, we must be ready. Nearly a millennium ago, Ivvora held the key to defeating Eshimka. By following her legends and discovering her fate, we may harness the same holy power that banished this fiend—and together end the beast entirely.
“When we set out, it would be the privilege of this following to have the Pathfinders at our side. But that is a trial for another day. Tonight, at last, we rest.”
@Table GMs: Please report your games and boons here. A roll of 19 or 20 wins a boon, and a d4 should then be rolled to determine which one.
And a big thank you to all of our players and GMs, for making Solstice Scar a fun and smooth experience.
Laara

So, a year to prepare then. Laara says with a grin. Ill have to see about clearing my schedule.
She turns to all the others. Ive been partnered with far worse by the VCs. Here's hoping we work together again, maybe getting to actually enjoy the meal next time!
