Was this a standard length module? it felt like it went really long. i know we had some people drop but wondering if it was also designed that way.
i have some character adjustments and purchases to make before the next session.

Gallows of Madness is one of the newer 64 page modules, that's broken up into 3 sections.
This took us about 6 months and the previous times I played parts 1 & 2 via pbp they took just over 2 months each.
Losing people mid-pbp can be a big drag, and we had GenCon/PaizoCon in the middle disrupting things but even if each of those delays cost us a month we were still half the pace of the previous time I played this.
GM: What can we do as players to help keep up a brisker pace for the next part?
Grel Veldgott
|
Thank you for that insight, Harada. I only have half a dozen pbp games under my belt and this one definitely lasted the longest even with may running during the gencon/paizocon period.
Most days i'm posting multiple times/day, although i did hit some travel that delayed me a bit. I'll keep tabs on that. I think having our DM do more liberal botting will keep us moving.
| GM Elberion |
This adventure has two major elements: investigation and combat.
The combat went at a decent pace.
The investigation was very slow, which you can see from my posting of information recaps. Two month-old clues are hard to recall.
When I played this at a table, rather than online, the investigation led to a lot of OOC debate and speculation which created momentum: players wanted more clues to see if their theory was correct.
Grel Veldgott
|
Agreed, GM. We also had a lot of options of where to go, which required consensus which is hard to get posting 1/day. Let's hope the next module is smoother.
| GM Elberion |
Waiting for consensus makes things go quite slowly.
I find a rule of 2 is good, once you've got 2 PCs agreeing to a direction go with that.
Yeah, I can see that as a good compromise.

Re: re-training.
You can re-train for free at level one.
Does anyone know if you can do it after your third adventure, before applying the chronicle which would take you to level two?
Grel Veldgott
|
Level 1 characters may be rebuilt per the rules in
Appendix 1: Character Creation. This is not a necessary
step to completing a Chronicle sheet after an adventure,
but a Chronicle sheet is required in order to confirm
the changes. The same is true for retraining, as
described below. So as long as purchases are made before the chronicle sheet there's that. does this require a copy of the character sheet with the 3rd chronicle?
Harada "The Hammer"
|
Until you've played a character at level 2 you can rebuild everything about them, including selling items back at full price (except used consumables).
For simplicities sake, I always sell back everything and just note on the chronicle sheet that levels me to 2 "1st level rebuild" before I handle my "permanent" purchases.

as it happens i have a bit of a re-write going into the next module and a desire to purchase a wand of CLW for 2 PP.
| GM Elberion |
Good stuff, thank you.
This chronicle gives 3xp so you only get one chance to tinker.
Grel Veldgott
|
i take back my comments about length. we did great for 3xp worth of module. that may also inform my PP purchases.
| GM Elberion |
Sorry,
My children have both had chickenpox, which has resulted in very little sleep and consumed my free time.
I'll get chronicles up shortly.
| GM Elberion |
I forgot to ask for Day Job checks.
Day Job checks, please.
Johnny Sniper

no day job yet

STEP 5: DOWNTIME
Not every Pathfinder works for the Society full time.
Some are trained artisans, professionals, or performers
and earn extra gold between missions. After each
adventure that grants XP, you gain a period of Downtime
before your next mission. During Downtime, you can
attempt a trained Craft, Perform, or Profession check
to see how much extra money you earn—this is called
a Day Job check. At the end of each adventure in the
Roleplaying Guild, you have the opportunity to make
one Day Job check. Certain vanities (Pathfinder Campaign
Setting: Pathfinder Society Field Guide 60 and Pathfinder
Player Companion: Pathfinder Society Primer 28) allow you
to further modify your Day Job rolls, or even let you use
skill ranks from other, more specialized skills like Heal
or Sleight of Hand.

Just trying to report: I need Verathis' PFS no.
| GM Elberion |
79151
Hey Verathis, your character no. should be 79151 - [a number]
I just realised that you have been playing with Verathis as a standard alias. If you go to the 'My Pathfinder Society' option at the top of the screen you can make a PFS alias and get your complete PFS no. for Verathis.
Johnny Sniper
|
Oh, each part is worth 3xp? Wow!
Grel Veldgott
|
chronicle applied. character updated (including some pre-level 2 tweaks). purchased a wayfinder cash and a wand of CLW with 2PP.
| GM Elberion |
79151-2 here Is the number for the new clone of Verathis. I could not find a way to register the original after creation. Do you happen to know if such a thing is possible?
Nope, I did the same thing with my first Society pbp character.
Her first adventure is separate on the boards, but they're all recorded together in the PFS records.| GM Elberion |
If anyone is using herolab, would you share the .por with me?
It makes checking sheets much easier.
Johnny Sniper
|
Updated character, bought 20 more arrows since I used almost all of them, other that saving my gold, added my skill checks, updated the HP, added point blank shot as a fighter bonus feat, cause I'll need it.
Harada "The Hammer"
|
Note that HL still doesn't deal with the MW taiaha correctly when wielded as a martial weapon although it's correctly listed in Harada's profile. Soon I'll have the cracked pyramid to resolve the issue, but I need that 9th fame first, so not until after this adventure.
Johnny Sniper

Might I recommend buying Cold Iron arrows instead of the basic.
It says cold iron costs double for weapons, would that be true for ammo? Would it just cost 2 gold to purchase 20 cold iron arrows?
Grel Veldgott
|
| GM Elberion |
Pirate Rob,
The reporting system says no fame for you as you have played this before but the chronicle explicitly says it is replayable by level 1.
Not a bother but I thought you should know.
| Pirate Rob |
Pirate Rob wrote:Might I recommend buying Cold Iron arrows instead of the basic. It says cold iron costs double for weapons, would that be true for ammo? Would it just cost 2 gold to purchase 20 cold iron arrows?
Correct. I pretty much only buy cold iron arrows for my PFS characters. The extra cost is fairly negligible, sometimes it's helpful and there's basically no downside.
Johnny Sniper

Johnny now has 20 cold iron arrows purchased instead of 20 regular arrows purchased, and subtracted 1 more gold. When part 3 starts, I go into buying magical weapons and armor. Also purchased one durable cold iron arrow for 2 GP.
| GM Elberion |
Okay, maps are almost sorted so when everyone has levelled-up I will start part two.
| GM Elberion |
Just waiting for Carson and Verathis to update their characters (sorry for the delay with the chronicle, Verathis) and then we can start the next part.
It's amazing how tougher you guys seem just with those new hit point totals 19/19/20...
| GM Elberion |
Has everyone applied the chronicle now?
Don't forget your wand!
| GM Elberion |
hey hey. don't get any ideas ;)
I don't see how adding one measly Minotaur to every encounter can make much difference... :b
