Yeah I wonder about that too; I put it down to something fancy like Star Lord's mask in GotG - sure he's got a mask but he still exposes everything else to death pressure which is supposed to be pretty bad IRL but it looks cool so who cares!
But lots of things like that have to be handwaved to make mechanics work so you're not playing the game by checklist.
Unless you're August in which case you do play the game by checklist because the universe is out to get you.
Dink could probably give him a nervous breakdown by having a documentary crew follow Diamaante around.

Is there a rule saying armor has built-in lights? I'm not finding it.
Yes.

I'm not sure that transitive rule is intended. I interpret those more like 'I can use my cell phone as a flash light' and 'I can place calls using my car's bluetooth', not that all cars have flashlights. On the other hand, all cars have headlights.
It does, however, mean that Idar has a flashlight. In a moment, I'll stow the grenade and take out his comm unit.
And I absolutely agree that the rules say that Second Skin has environment protections. I'm just not sure how much sense that makes. I suspect that at one point the draft Starfinder rules gave Environmental Protection to some subset of armors. (For instance, all heavy armors). That would make the Space Suit entry not useless.
Telion of Castrovel |
I think I read something somewhere that the environmental protections can take different forms. Spacesuits, heavy armor and such are full body pressure suits, while things like second skin deploy emergency force fields that create a bubble of breathable, pressurized atmosphere... at least until the minimal on board batteries run out. I think they last 24 hours, with fancier/sturdier versions last longer.

I just try to Rule of Cool it. Doesn't make sense but then neither does the boardgame Clue - obviously your first move is to a) get the heck out of there or b) call the police not crawl through a house trying to find out who the murderer is.

Clearly you, never saw the movie “Clue.”

Yup. Probably not going to be including that in all my posts forever, so please everyone remember that you get +1 to hit with ranged attacks against any enemy I threaten in melee.

@GM - Is it your intent to push us through the entire Commencement?
If so, will you be providing a cert for it?
I recognize we're in Campaign Mode, and you can run the campaign however you wish, and I don't want to speak for the others, but I have run and played The Commencement several times, so I don't need to go through all of these if it's just to get the exposure to the material.
GM Dinketry |
I’m just fleshing out the adventure a bit. I’m not planning on giving a certificate for The Commencement as you won’t be completing it. The Dead Suns AP has a lot of holes that need filling, so I’m picking and choosing things to plug those holes and also offer some attachments to things like your SFS factions.
Your factions are your business. If you’d like to compete them, they may aid you in the future. You can also decline them - and don’t think I won’t be having your characters have to make choices about job prioritisation. Nevertheless, I recognise that some material I’m selecting may have been seen by some of you before. Feel free to bow out of whatever you’d like - different people will have different faction opportunities.
I’ll be sure to keep you busy whatever you choose, never fear.

What you should be asking is the important questions, like when is the next Strawberry Machine Cake concert.
It's in June, apparently! (According to the Paizo blog.)

The rules for how this encounter works are simple. You each get four pre-race actions in the 20 minutes leading up to the race to do something to affect the outcome of the race - 5 minutes per action. You can help Laboni directly as she has requested (via Skills such as Engineering, Computers, Physical Science, or other more creative choices subject to my whims of judgment), or you can help Laboni indirectly by checking out, socialising, or being nefarious towards the other racers. If you've checked out the map link under my name, you'll see that there will be six racers in this 'Scrap Battle' including yourselves, so five other racers, including Ratrod. We'll run the pre-race stuff as a relaxed Initiative order thing so I can keep track of who's doing what - but don't feel bound by its chronography. Also, if you're not sure you want to do stuff on your own, please remember that 'Aid Another' is a possibility for most Skill checks, but someone will clearly be denoted as the primary Skill checker before any Skill is checked - no retro-active announcements of who was aiding and who was primary, please.
Also, I've given you the basic statistics for Laboni's junkracer in the Campaign Info thread, as well as under the header to this page. Check it out.
GM Dinketry |
I’m hoping that this junkracer quest will serve as our first foray into starship combat (though this is basically a remote control vehicle race with a bit of combat thrown in). Nevertheless, there’s a method to my madness.

I will be out of town from Friday through Tuesday. I will try to check in if I can, but I likely won't be able to post much until I return. GM, please bot me if necessary.
GM Dinketry |
Makes sense. Posting will be spotty from me from Saturday afternoon through Tuesday.
Happy le Happy, Everyone!

Ok, and with that last email having been sent, my Christmas/New Year Holiday begins!
There will be family, and friends, and out of state travel, so I will do my best to post, but at least during the Monday-Friday of next week, it might get a bit tough.
GM, feel free to bot me as necessary.
Happy Christmas to all!
GM Dinketry |
Oops. Y’all are correct. No need for confirms. I’ll amend an effect in the Gameplay post.
GM Dinketry |
Jaxom, scroll to the right on the map. There’s a further chart to tell you what junkracers are in the race. The coloured key refers to that part of the map.
You could also go by the text of the race commentary and fire at one of the coloured cars. You know that Ratrod is black and Lemgem (who is out of the race along with Velocity) is purple. Laboni’s craft is red.
GM Dinketry |
It’s not on the map - it’s a separate chart to the right of the map. Zoom out from the map and you’ll see it.
