Ser Brandon did kill Grelm in his sleep. This would be the only incident that might be construed as murder, if you were not duly authorized to carry out the King's judgements. I leave that for the party to decide.

Brann was killed while alerting the others to the party's arrival. His injuries were excessive for his frame.
Breeg was killed by an elemental, overkill of non-lethal damage that turned lethal. He may actually be "saveable", though no one has checked yet.
Kressle was killed by an accidental, enthusiastic player. It is doubtful she will survive.

Each of the last three deaths occurred after the surrender order was given to the bandits, and they declined to do so.

GM Darkblade, what would you say is the difficulty or action to notice something like this? I mean, for example, I thought about asking Silas to put the elemental on somebody else after Breeg surrendered, and again after Breeg went unconscious, but Orin was focused on something else and probably wouldn't have actually noticed.

Fights are pretty dirty and chaotic to begin with. If we are being honest, in the dark and also with the subliminal fear of death hanging out with a person, I can see people in fights not quite being their normal selves.

I know Orin is going to carry a bit of guilt for this fight, even though as the player, I understand he's not culpable for all circumstances.

Imagine if you saw on the news, the police had quietly entered a child murderer's home and shot that person and a few of their friends while sleeping...nobody would call that a "lawful execution" not even a Texan.

Naw... here in Texas, I understand they'd plant drugs and a weapon and make it look like a night of partying gone wrong. Dirty child murderer karma and all... ;)

The difficulty of noticing the condition of Breeg, partially hidden by the log and shadows, while still trying to face one's own opponents as well as keep track of others is high. If the roll was to be made, I'd say off hand in the DC 15 to 25 range. I would have to look at the skill specifics and make a few adjustments based upon lighting, distance, and overall skirmish circumstances.

As I stated, Breeg may not actually be dead, he was pulped up pretty good, but the first round and a half or so was non-lethal damage, the last half became lethal. Clear away the dirt and rock, he may have a pulse, maybe not.

This is why it is best to call specific targets for your actions, or those you command. The elemental fought until the spell released it, striking for subdual against the nearest target when left to it's own devices. Subdual after a time becomes lethal, as the points start doubling up. It has no concept of surrender or speaking the common tongue to hear it.

Yeah... Silas couldn't actually see what was going on, because there were trees in the way, so he gave simple instructions. He'll try and get a better look on his turn.

I'm back. And caught up on the action :)

As an FYI, I will be out of pocket for much of the upcoming weekend, Friday thru Sunday. We are having our state gaming convention and I will be both running events as well as hopefully getting in a few to boot. I will try to post in the evenings but cannot say so with certainty. I will do my best to post as needed to keep things moving.

Male Elf Rogue/3

Sry for quick post lol I am at work so had to think of something lol

It would appear the campaign is in arrest. Attempting CPR... Call to Post Regularly.

Wow... yeah. I found myself waiting for somebody else to say something, and only now have I realized that it's Saturday night.

I'm sorry. I will try harder.

Glad to have this one going again. Need to clear out all those little mites bothering our Reptilian friends. So much to do in this fledgling Barony, no time to waste! :D

I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Male Elf Wizard 3 AC 13, touch 13, FF 10 Init +7; Senses low-light vision; Perception +10 Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +5; +2 vs. enchantments

I want to post more, but we really need the Baron or one of the knightly types to take the lead. Ayerth is waiting to support a leader.

Come on lads lets look alive. I know combat can get a little tedious but lets check in once a day shall we. It will keep things going and we can keep building up the kingdom.

Male Human Sorcerer (Infernal) - Level 1 HP: 6

I am in group 4 waiting on group 3 (Ayerth and one centipede).

Male Elf Wizard 3 AC 13, touch 13, FF 10 Init +7; Senses low-light vision; Perception +10 Fort +3, Ref +5, Will +5; +2 vs. enchantments

sorry gang Paizo would not accept my posts last night. I fired a bow and missed anyway. It is weird, I post and hit submit and it looks like it is in preview mode with the text still in the submit box and showing in the thread. I keep hitting submit and it keeps asking me if I want to resubmit in a little box that pops up.

I am still here though.

No worries, moving the dancing lights and being defensive are not going to cost the battle any more than a missed bowshot. I think the others can do a bit to finish this lot, or nearly so. Hopefully before any baby centipede swarms show up at least.

Can those players who have not updated their Character Sheets to the standards Ayerth, Ser Brandon, and Orin have please do so when you have a chance. It would make my job easier managing the combat situations.

Also, remember to update your stats as you take or heal damage, use spells and other resources, etc. It is a handy way of keeping track when you are away from your notes and hard copy forms.

Thanks

Could people track HP in their status bars? That would make it easier for me to figure out when to use channels vs. cure spells, etc.

Thirded. I remember Darkblade had a link to a sample sheet, but I don't think I could easily find the link at this point.

And at the risk of being metagamy, if I can see in the stats that a particular character's saves needs shoring up more than other characters, you may be the next target of a Protection From Evil spell or similar (not that it really helped me). :)

That works! I usually keep my health in a spoiler under my name. Also, shouting for healing in-character is perfectly acceptable too.

Sorry guys for being MIA. Dealing with a bad sinus blockage. Thought I'd cleared it but it's still holding out. Makes for dizziness, nausea, and all the fun pain you can imagine. Alternating warm compresses, steam pots, and sinus massages, not to mention all the wonderful meds. Hopefully I can beat this and get back to the game. Thanks for your patience.

@ GM Darkblade:
I... I'm not entirely sure how to feel. They are mites. I know that they got us into a tactically unsound position which sometimes happens... but I can't get away from the fact that they are mites.

I think of goblins as cooler and more dangerous, and even they have a chance to self immolate and die if you leave them alone long enough.

I was kind of hoping the slightly mad angle would give everyone that momentary pause, making them go "...what" which would give Orin a chance to flip things a little. I suppose that takes a secondary roll, like bluff, which Orin is bad at.

Other than a lucky roll, which I get the feeling now won't do what I thought it might do, I've really got nothing. I've apparently poorly picked spells (I'm looking at you, Enlarge Person), a good chunk of the party is on the ground, and as a wizard, I have no real skill at combat or abilities to help mitigate poison or heal in combat.

I'm just really drawing a blank here. What would you suggest? And if the suggestion is "wander around previous areas until parley is over" that's fine, too. It just... really felt like Orin would feel really shamed by succumbing to magic and would feel the need to overcompensate for that failure/running from battle from what he perceived as a lesser opponent.

Which couldn't be further from the truth, since this series of encounters has managed to grind down six level three characters.

Orin:
The group is hard hit yes, but you may have a second chance with a renewed rush by yourself and Irakli. Should you beat past the AoO you would likely finish off the centipede with the crit. That would leave the chief and giant tick still in the chambers.

You have not seen any additional mites, and it did appear to your Dwarven senses that the mite tunnels may loop back around and up again upon themselves. If so, you are likely near the end of the line before heading back up.

Bluffing would not work on the insects, they are not intelligent enough to recognize madness or other emotions, only sense basic fright or fight instincts. You might surprise the chief, after all they already list dwarves and gnomes as racial enemies. Whether he understands Dwarven is another matter altogether.

Spell selection in this case was hindered by the nature of the tunnels and the cramped conditions. Most areas will not be like this, so I would reserve ruling the list out just yet. You can always learn additional spells by researching in town or purchasing time on another wizard's spellbook if you have a few coins to spread around.

Play Orin as you see him, his actions as what would seem right for him. The others should be doing the same for their characters and personalities. This situation was a result of an alerted enemy that knows their home, a rushed approach over a cautious sweep, and a party that got split apart when it needed to remain tight and cohesive. That is part of what happens when learning to work and fight as a team, and is what builds experience up for the future.

Do what you think is best and the others should understand.

Male Elf Rogue/3

Merry Chrismas everyone may be absent for a few days dealing with food poisioning

okay I need a bit of time to think how Ayerth is going to react. He is going to be conflicted because they were at a truce initiated by the mite when the mite likely had the upper hand and could have wiped them out. However once the battle is joined its almost like Ayerth has to fight for his life because his spells are going to end soon and several companions are down.

as crazy as it sounds it might be safest to drop the dwarf and end the fight hoping that diplomacy can be restored, but man I don't know.

I smell TPK.

Bad, bad idea. Also, the centipede was what wrecked us—with us down, people have a chance, except I'm guessing our characters are all rather stunned.
