Mawl draws his weapon as the loyalists approach. He recognizes Sorix somewhat close to him and tries to guide her and the orator to safety. Sorix, this way, stay behind me! Orator, I feel things have gone beyond what is right, come this way, I will try and clear a path for you.

As movement is difficult with the crowd rushing away, Mawl holds his ground and defends himself by attacking the nearest loyalist with reach weapon.

With the crowd suddenly sent into panic and confusion, with men unsure who is friend and who is foe, women and children running from the square, the square is in mayhem. Horrilo's initial thoughts to aid their escape and help the innocents from this place are suddenly put to the back of his mind as he sees an agent of Thrune raise a mace about to strike at a defenceless woman.
Horillo, retrieving his bow, is determined to get the thugs attention, if the arrow flies true. But in his haste Horillo fumbles to set the arrow correctly and it falls to the floor, so he shouts "Leave her, you are nothing but Barzilla's puppet!"

A little confused about the turn of events. So cloaked men within the crowd are attacking us directly? What is the guard contingent doing at this time?

Not spoiling for a fight, Saniel eyes one of the approaching men in the crowd, sizing him up and trying to determine if the man is seeking to spill blood this day. He notes the way the loyalist moves and how he handles his weapon. Seeing that which he feared, Saniel takes a few quick steps through the pressing crowd to get out of the path of the surging mob and out of the eyes of the malicious city guard.

"Give way! Blood need not be spilled in the streets this day!" he calls out, hoping to shake some to their senses.

As the recently un-hooded men make their way through the crowd threatening and scaring the other citizens Mawl jumps to action. He unstraps his polearm from his back and attempts to take out one of the so called Loyalists. However, he simply can't find a good opening without risking injury to innocent civilians as they flee the scene. Nils, on the other side of the square, slips out his kukuri and deftly navigates the crowd to attack one of the loyalists, striking the man with his weapon leaving a deep cut in the Loyalists arm. The man glares back at Nils tightening his grip on his mace. Horillo, near Nils, takes out his bow and aims at another of the Loyalists, but is also having difficulty finding a clean shot in the rushing crowd. Thinking he sees an opening, he looses the arrow, but jerks the bow as the arrow flies, to avoid hitting someone who ran in the way. The arrow flies off somewhere into the distance. Sorix calmly stands her ground as she casts her spell.

The two Loyalists in the blast fall to the ground, along with a handful of other people as she quaintly apologizes to the innocents she knocks out cold. Saniel moves out of the mess of the crowd, studying his opponents and sizing them up before his next move, while trying to dissuade them from their course of action.

Saniel:
You do notice that at first the men, these Loyalists, appeared to be holding their weapons in a fashion to knock people out rather than kill them, however that quickly changed as others, some of the men you had met earlier, attacked the Loyalists with lethal force.

However, Saniel's words do not seem to ring true to the Loyalists and those remaining turn to attack the nearest threat, trying to use their numbers to their advantage as they advance on Nils.

The one who Nils already injured brings his mace down squarely on Nils shoulder as he shouts "Die you dirty demon blooded mongrel!". The other Loyalist scoffs as he misses the tiefling. In the background you see the gaunt woman, with a snarl, she yanks out the dagger from her neck, tossing it to the ground. She motions to the Dottari at the door and turns to move into the building, but as she turns to go inside, you think you see the wound starting to heal before your eyes. Ten of the Dottari move inside to secure the building, along with the woman, while two remain outside the doors surveying the scene, yet to see the small fight you and the Loyalists are having.

With that the man takes a few more steps away from the scattering crowd, using the confusion and the cover of a large shrubbery to mask his movements as he goes through a series of complex gestures with his hands, finishing the act by drawing his hands down across his face, a face that now looks completely different than it did a moment before.

As you turn down one alley you hear the sound of steel clashing against steel alongside a cry of pain and spot a group of Queens' Loyalists thugs just as they knock a man to the ground. Three unconscious thugs lie sprawled nearby, and it is obvious that the remaining thugs are preparing to administer a coup de grace to the fallen victim.

The cleric then breaths out once more the holy word, "Erastil" and his arm once more glows in the green and gold light. Immediately he returns the text to his backpack. "Watch them, they may come to." he warns his companions. No more bloodshed and we can be on our way. What is House Thrune doing to us, to pit one Kintargan against another. Horillo lets out an audible sigh and watches the gloved man.

As Mawl moves up to restrain the two Loyalists, Horillo tends to their victim. As his light washes over everyone in the area, only the one gloved man awakens with a start. "Back you sco..." he surveys his scene, apparently recognizing some of you, and noting the Loyalists from before being subdued. As Sorix rushes to the now conscious man he nods and smiles at her words.

"My thanks for your assistance. Please, we are not safe on the streets. Thrune has eyes and ears everywhere. I know of somewhere private we can talk nearby, please follow me." He stands and dusts off of his fine clothes before retrieving his cane sword and starts to walk off. He looks back briefly to ensure the others are following and then leads the way.

He leads you through the various allies, but avoids any of the main streets until, shortly, you find yourselves outside a store. The sign above reads Crissali's Fine Tomes. The man opens the door and enters, leaving it open behind him. Inside you can hear him greet another man. As you follow you see this store is full of various books, all in very good condition. The shop is tidy, but smells of old paper. The man who led you here talks with, who you assume to be the owner "My dear friend, we have need of your back room." The other man smiles "But of course, you are always a welcome sight for sore eyes my friend. As always, I appreciate your patronage and our debates, you are welcome to use the back room anytime you need." The two shake hands and then you are led into a small back room. The room is rather empty except for a table with 10 chairs. Waiting for you all to enter the room, the man you saved closes the door once all are inside. He takes a deep breath of relief before taking a seat at the table.

"Thank you again for that timely rescue, and my apologizes for rushing you here. Truth is, our meeting was no coincidence. I followed you from the protest earlier today, but in the chaos that erupted I lost track of your group. You proved yourselves to be people of uncommon skill, and I am a man of uncommon needs.

My name is Rexus Victocora, and until last week’s Night of Ashes, I was one of this city’s nobles. My parents’ estate burned to the ground that night — I escaped simply because I was studying at the Alabaster Academy during the fire. There were other fires that night, as you know — fires that many believe were started by Barzillai Thrune or his agents in an attempt to squash any spirit of rebellion Kintargo might have.

Now more than ever we need that spirit of rebellion to stay strong, but Thrune’s actions have driven into hiding those who would stay strong and resist. Those who could once rally the city to a cause, such as Lord-Mayor Jilia Bainilus and my parents, who are missing at best, and are more likely dead. I cannot do this on my own, but with the aid of talented citizens such as yourselves, I have hope that we can. Will you aid Kintargo? Will you save the city from this Thrune devil?”

Mawl boldly steps forward saying: "I for one have seen the ruin and destruction that the church of Asmodeus and House of Thrune can bring to an otherwise peaceful and prosperous city. I have no wish to see my adopted city of Kintargo follow the same path.

I am not a leader type, not being familiar with politics and nobility, but I am willingly a person that has success in getting things done. I have been confused as to the motivations of this turn of events, suspicious of the Night of Ashes, and curious as to the idiocy of the proclamations. I think with some direction I can certainly help turn the tide of demise.

Mawl surprises himself a little with such a quick commitment without talking to others that he trusts, but he feels that the evil that is Thrune and Asmodeus will not destroy his life--again

Listening to the man's tale Saniel takes in his grim words. The Lord-Mayor dead? Surely things haven't gone that far. He nods at the large man's words, "Indeed, these proclomations are an insult to the people of this city. I cannot sit idly by and watch the spirit that makes Kintargo unique be squashed under the boot of this tyrant from House Thrune." He takes a seat at the table, leaning forward in his chair and asks, "Other than soliciting the help of strangers from the streets, do you have something in mind to save this city?"

Sorix stands with her head high and proud.

I am no stranger to tyranny and oppression. And more importantly, my life has been dedicated to actively working to end it. You see, I come from Nidal. For generations, my family and our fellow devotees of the Song of Spheres; Desna, have toiled ceaselessly to bring down the vile Umbral Court and send the Midnight Lord back to his prison in the Great Beyond where he belongs.

I will always stand for freedom. I have loved this fine city since I first arrived a few years ago to continue my studies. I will not, CAN not stand idle and watch Kintargo devolve into a similar state of evil tyranny as my homeland! I have sought the resistance network as soon as I began hearing rumors of its existence. I am with you.

Nils:
You do recall hearing of the Victocora name as one of the noble families. As far as you can tell Rexus is being straight forward.

Rexus nods to Mawl and Sorix's words and then turns to Saniel at his question. "Indeed I do my good man. Recently I have discovered there was more to my family than even I knew. My mother, Portia, was a high-ranking member of a secret society called the Sacred Order of Archivists, a band of Iroran scholars dedicated to the protection and restoration of history. I learned this the day after the Night of Ashes. Ms. Laria Longroads, a friend of the family, had apparently spoken with my mother just after Lord-Mayor Bainilus vanished. At the time, Laria had thought Portia was overreacting, but when the Victocora estate burned down and Portia went missing, Laria knew my mother had spoken the truth. She sought me out and delivered a message and coffer, along with her condolences and an offer to stay at her establishment, the Long Roads Coffeehouse, as long as I needed a place to sleep. I admit I was dubious of her claims at first, but I believed her once I read the note in my mother’s hand."

He pulls a piece of parchment from a pocket in his robe and passes it around for you to see.

Note:

My dearest son,

If you are reading this, what I have feared has come to pass and I am dead or captured. For many years, I have belonged to the Sacred Order of Archivists and have worked to free Kintargo from Chelish rule. I have learned much about Kintargo’s secret history, and fear the time will soon come when the city needs the return of its Silver Ravens. You have likely not heard of the Silver Ravens, few have. Mentions of them have been redacted by the agents of House Thrune, but during the civil war, the Ravens worked to ensure Kintargo’s safety. They were heroes in their day, and I fear that Kintargo needs their kind again. Do not believe the government’s claims that Lord-Mayor Bainilus abandoned us! Darker things are afoot, and I fear that all who work against Thrune may find themselves in danger in the days ahead.

The Silver Ravens maintained numerous hideouts within Kintargo’s walls during the civil war. I have located one such site, the
chambers below a building known today as the Fair Fortune Livery. If you are reading this, I was unable to seek further answers there myself. Gather heroes to your side, my son, and search below the livery. There, if my research is correct, you will find something to teach you more of the Silver Ravens and their legacy. Do not let my death be in vain. Stand up for Kintargo. Bring the Silver Ravens back to life!

After you have all had an opportunity to read the note Rexus continues "So you see, perhaps we can find something at the Livery that will help us in our cause. I admit I am no adventurer and leading a rebellion is not my calling, but it is my belief that if we" he motions to everyone "can band together we can start something to take down this madman Thrune and restore Kintargo."

He thinks to himself "Perhaps we can explore the Livery on the morrow? I fear that as the day grows late we may run into curfew which could complicate matters. Not to mention, the Dottari and Hellknights are likely out in force to maintain order after the riot at the park."

Nils face softens a bit as Rexus describes his plight and reveals the note from his mother.

"My condolences on your loss. I suspect what your mother believed is in fact the truth. On the same night agents of the Lord Mayor struck at the Cloven Hoof Society, dragged off it's leader and left her friends corpse hanging from the gate. We haven't seen her since. Those of us from the Nursery have done our best to support each other since but her loss is sorely felt."

Taking a deep breath before slowly releasing it he continues "There are few places my kind find anything resembling welcome but in Kintargo we at least found some level of tolerance and community. I will not give up on this city or see it twisted into a mirror of Egorian. I'm with you and any who would stand for the true spirit of the Silver City."

K:Local on the Livery (location, info about it, etc): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

"Let's meet in the morning then at the Livery. For now we should make our way out in small groups to avoid notice."

Before leaving Nils will disguise himself to appear human. T10=16 Disguise

After reading the letter, Mawl loves having direction and he jumps up and says just a little too loudly. "Yes, let's bring these Silver Ravens back and explore the Livery as soon as possible. It's resolved! No more need for chit-chat

As he gathers his stuff to leave he turns to Sorix, and asks her more quietly, "Didn't you mention the Silver Ravens during one of your stories while we were reveling and worshiping Desna?" "I thought you may have even asked me if I had heard of them...well now I have"

Before he leaves he absentmindedly turns back to the room and Hey, where are we meeting tomorrow?"

Nils:
The old Livery is in the Red Roof district, just outside the Devil's Nursery. It has been abandoned for some time now

Sincere condolences about your family. That is horrible, and all the more reason why we must not let this madman continue to ruin our fine city.

The Fair Fortune livery...isn't that creepy old place supposed to be haunted? Sounds like we're in for an adventure. What time shall we meet?

Addressing Mawl, Yes! I'm always curious about underground resistance organizations, you know, since I come from one and all. Back in Nidal, we had to be even more secretive about our devotion to Desna than we do here. Being found out could get you killed...or worse. Sorix shudders.

Saniel listened intently at the words of the wizard. A fellow follower in the city? I'd dared not believe it would even be possible. Perhaps there is hope for this place yet.

After studying the offered note and becoming truly intrigued at the mention within of the Silver Ravens, Saniel's attitude quickly changes from one of doubt to one of sincere interest. Passing the missive back to the man and noting the departing words of the others, Saniel nods and says, "The Livery then, in the morning. I will meet those of you willing to investigate the location then. Be safe out there." With that he stands and curtly bows to those present, making his way back outside and quickly heads to the boarding house.

Today had truly exceeded his expectations, and the promises that tomorrow held were equally exciting.

If daylight holds Nils will go and meet with Hiemrick to fill him in on the happenings at the protest. He'll also mention finding potential allies but won't speak in detail. Lastly he'll ask if the man knows anything about the old Livery.

Sorix seems both excited and determined as she bids everyone farewell after the hour is confirmed for tomorrow morning. Just as she's about to leave, she pauses as she remembers something. Oh! Mawl, I wanted to thank you for placing yourself between me and that stupid loyalist thug in the alley. Anyway, I noticed during the scuffle in the park you were fighting with a weapon that allows you to strike at attackers a bit further away than with a sword or a club. I know a spell that increases size and strength. It'll also increase the distance that much more at which you can threaten foes. If this Fair Fortune really is "haunted," Sorix rolls her eyes, then smiles "I have a scroll ready, just in case."

"Okay, see everyone in the morning. If I hurry home I should have time to make one more scroll before bed."

What excuse should I give the Aulorians for my morning "appointment"? Would they be at all sympathetic to my intentions? They know I come from Nidal, and while we don't discuss politics, it must be fairly obvious I'm not exactly praising the Umbral Court. I probably shouldn't come totally clean about what I'm up to. But they seem like a sensible Kintargan family...

Before anyone departs, Rexus pulls out a small coffer from his pack. "It is not much, but it is all I have and I give it you to help our cause." He opens the coffer, inside is 150gp, a signet ring (75gp), a masterwork silver dagger, a set of bracers of armor +1 and a mithrel key. Rexus reaches in and takes the key "This was my mothers, she wore it as a necklace. I shall keep it as it holds sentimental value. The rest you can do with as you see fit." He slides the coffer over to you.

As you all begin to leave Rexus bids you all farewell. As you make your way back to your abodes, you do note the increased presence of Dottari, Loyalists, and Hellknights throughout the city, though you make it home with no issue. The night is uneventful, though many of you have plenty to process between the protest turned riot, the new outlandish proclamation and your acceptance to starting a rebellion.

Nils:
The Fair Fortune was a slaughterhouse in Redroof ’s earliest days, but it was remade into a thriving stable under some minor noble family of the past, whose line has since died out.

The next morning you make your way to the Livery, whether from knowing the way or asking for directions. The streets are a little less busy than you are used to. As you each arrive separately you find Rexus waiting for you nearby and he waves you over. "I'm glad you all could make it." he smiles "It is good to know, by your actions, that your words last night were true and you are ready to embark on this journey together." He nods to an old building across the street. "That is the Livery. As I noted, I have little experience in these things, so perhaps one of you has an idea on how we should approach this?"

Across the way you see an aged stable that leans slightly to one side, its roof precariously propped up by aged wooden walls. The main entrance, you can see from here, is chained up.
