I don’t really care for it. If you guys want to keep to cast on yourselves, I can do so - but honestly, it’s another thing that should simply be sold.
GMDQ
A spell has to be on a class spell list for someone to be able to use a wand. The only other way to activate it is with Use Magic Device. So you are the only one who can use it, Chakam. It can of course can be used to buff your allies even if you wouldn't cast it upon yourself. Or you can sell it for 360 gp.

I know that, and that’s what I said when I said “I can do so”. If they want to keep it so I can cast on them, that’s fine, but I think it’s a waste, just like the buckler thing.

Lark's player contacted me privately and told me that he needs to take a week break. So I am going to ask we move forward and I'll bot him as needed in the meantime. I'll just handwave his and Sandara's trip to the Berth of the Sea Wraith. I think he will accept whatever the majority of you agree to do with the treasure. We need to hear from Kahuranga on the bronze, and Chad and Kahuranga on the wand (Kahuranga noted he couldn't use it but didn't say what he felt about it).
For whatever you do over the next day or so, just describe it and make appropriate rolls (e.g., Diplomacy for gathering information).
Chakam
Do we need to recruit more people for our ships? I thought about posting something about it (even though Chakam really isn't much about Diplomacy or Charisma skills at all - assuming these would be the rolls at the end of the day?) just so we can keep things moving.
Alternatively I could post on Chakam repairing or doing basic maintenance on the siege engines. I don't know. I think we already bought everything we need and it should be pristine, but trying to find something to avoid just posting a "the druid follows around" update :)
Kahuranga
I don't personally have any need for the spider climb wand, so I'm happy to sell it. The bronze seems strangely specific, which makes me think it might be worth keeping an item made out of it. I don't use anything that can be made with it, so I'll defer to the majority.
Chad Wassen
Chad has decent acrobatics... spider climb would be slightly useful but selling it for funds probably would be more so.
My vote on the bronze would be to make it useful... hells, if I was more melee focused I would be trying to snag it for me, lol. I wish we could ask Lark if he wanted it for his weapons... it strikes me as being more useful on a weapon than on armor or shields, though DR is DR (and sometimes that 1 HP is the difference).
I will be posting shortly, my schedule at work got up-ended... again... grumble grumble.
GMDQ
Seems like there are slightly more people interested in using the bronze to upgrade a weapon. Chad will that be your errand? Is it Thren's buckler or something else?
If y'all agree on selling the wand, then just note it on the loot sheet, we don't have to RP out the sale. Lark usually does the loot sheet upkeep, but does anyone want to volunteer?
Chakam, more crew never hurts, and there is room on the ship. Your mate, Crimson Cogward can go with you, to help scout folks out, if you are headed out on your own--or Kahuranga and Chad could combine actions with you. Whether you want to do something as simple as roll a Social Interaction Skill check or complex as give a detailed description of how you go about it is up to you. Mind you, the level of details you give me will be reflected in my effort in coming up with recruits--a random roll with no description will result in a random NPC. More details result in a NPC tailored to the scenario and how you go about looking.

Hey, posting this in all my games... I am going to need to take a hiatus for a while. Marital problems of the serious variety (ie: probably headed toward divorce) are consuming most of my time. I will try to check back in once things have stabilized, but I really don't have a timetable for that.
I am deeply sorry.
Chakam
Sorry to hear it, Chad. Take your time, sort your life! Hope you guys find the best decision for your future.
DeathQuaker RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8
Very sorry to hear that. What I will do is consign your character to background duties for now, or Chad can be assigned to working at Ghoral Rey. If you determine you can rejoin us later let us know--if you need to make a formal exit likewise let us know. I hope you can sign back on down the line, but obviously real life issues take precedence. Best of luck to you.
Chad Wassen
Posting in all games (again). Thank you for all the prayers, thoughts, wishes, and good vibes. Things are... improving... between me and my wife. (Not through the woods yet, but I have a lot more hope that we will get through than when I posted last.)
I am not quite ready to catch up and post again, but I am hopeful that I can be soonish. I will keep you posted as I can.
Again, thank you for your understanding and patience.
GMDQ
As the description doesn't say otherwise, I'd say if not fully instantaneously, within the round it is activated.
However, you are thinking of dropping a 20 foot long actual boat on top of everyone's heads... well sure, it might halt things or distract things... but it may not have the exact result you are looking for either. But you do you!
Will post to the game in the morning, have had a long difficult week and a splitting headache.

Sorry for the delay folks, allergy season has really been getting to me, and combined with the stress of transitioning jobs my asthma has been acting up. My doctor even had me tested for COVID to rule that out as a cause of shortness of breath. I did test negative but have been staying at home and resting a lot to stay safe. Yesterday wasn't feeling well but am doing much better today. Breathing is a wonderful thing and I recommend you all do it as much as possible.
thermopyle
Lark, I don't think you moved more than 5 feet, did you? You should have at least two more attacks.
Lark had not yet drawn a weapon. I think that means he had to use a move action to draw or a free action as part of movement. Either way, only a standard action left, so no additional attacks.

Unrelated to the current scene: Do I have it correct that the siege engines installed to the Fearsome Tide are all of the ones you own: light catapult, 2 light ballista, and ram?
Or did you leave something on the Whim?
Chakam
Yes, I’m here! I didn’t realize it was my action again. I’ll read and post soon.
GMDQ
At long last, I have finished creating the Fearsome Tide Handout for all of you. I had purchased this digital map of a square rigger by Jon Roberts ages ago, but needed to take the time to add in all the specific map features (like putting in the hammocks where I wanted them) that would make sense for your purposes. Especially with all going on, doing that and then making the handout took awhile. It is a somewhat complex layout but I hope it all makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions or see any errors. The ship also has a level containing the bilges but I don't feel a need to include a map of it (and one was not included with the pack otherwise).
I've changed the link in my "Statblock" to this new map, but if you need to reference Besmara's Whim the link to that is still in the campaign tab.
I know the OTHER thing I am woefully overdue on is updating the crew list, including adding Chad and Chakam. Hopefully I will get that done in the not too distant future (though I may wait to see if you decide to go after Rowena).
One thing I thought about putting on the Fearsome Tide handout was a list of typical supplies and contents of the armory, but figure that might be a transient thing. If you do want to track that, I suggest adding a tab to the loot sheet and keeping track of that yourselves.
Generally, it is safe to assume the ship is usually stocked, unless specific circumstances dictate otherwise, with the following:
Arms and Armaments:
5 bucklers
5 scimitars
5 heavy crossbows
50 crossbow bolts
6 gaff hooks
10 brass knives
Not sure how much ammunition you have for your siege engines--should be at least 80 bolts for the ballistae at least.
General Supplies:
Three weeks' worth water
Three weeks' worth food, including a variety of low-perishable goods
An abundance of rope
An abundance of tar
An abundance of sailcloth
A carpenter's kit plus additional hammers and nails
2 healer's kits (reserved for infirmary use outside Quinn's permission)
5 potions of cure light wounds (reserved for infirmary use outside Quinn's permission)
Three hens and a rooster
Various sacks, barrels, and crates
All of this is not inclusive of the crew's own personal gear and weapons, as well as things like Beryl's spice collection.
Chakam
Do you guys want to recruit that engineer? She's asking us to pay some sum upfront, and to be honest I'm more inclined to say no. It's not too much for us as player characters, but it's a lot "in-character". What do you think?
Kahuranga
I was thinking when I read that that I'd have paid it out of pocket, because that is just who K is. While he likes nice things, money doesn't really mean much to him. He grew up in a hunter/fisher/gatherer society, so he doesn't care much about the things money can buy.
As a player, I'm all for it.
Chakam
Alright, so let's go for it then.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Things have finally been mostly resolved on the homefront (positive new, thankfully) and I am trying to get spun back up on my games. I will spend the weekend catching up on the game play and (assuming I am still welcome) will try to get Chad back on the table.
In the meantime, here are a few videos that I saw on my hiatus that made me think of you y'all:
GMDQ
Glad things are going better and of course you are absolutely still welcome. You gave warning about your absence which is all I ever ask for. Chad was just moved "offscreen," attending to ship inventory. You come back with excellent timing, as we are about to begin this book's next chapter, and you can jump back in as soon as we finish the dinner scene which should be shortly (I will post a little later today; I need time to put together the exposition dump).
GMDQ
And speaking of moving to the next chapter, please, FINALLY, level your characters!
Chakam

Yay! I mean, damn it, leveling a shapeshifter is a pain as Hero Lab gets all messed up with the numbers and I have to double check every little thing. Oh well, I shouldn't complain. Yay team!
Chad Wassen
Think I am caught up now... will post upon GM giving the lead in (probably with a synopsis of what I have been up to).
On the level note, I think I have most of it squared away... just missing HP (is the table rule to roll for it, take the average, or something else?) I gained a few skill points, swift tracking feature, a new favored terrain (urban areas) as well as a +2 bonus to my sea favored terrain bonuses, a new 2nd level spell slot (Create Treasure Map picked for now, like any of my spells I can swap it for something more useful with a day's notice), and various other minor buffs.
GMDQ
Great! Just making sure no one else has any questions, if no one else posts will carry us forward tomorrow. Early on it was Max HP every level. I had considered lowering it since we have a larger party now, but it doesn't really make sense to pick one and then change later, so let's just keep it easy and do max HP.
Chakam, may be easier to do it by hand. HL is great for generation but is frustrating for upkeep.
Lathiira
Ok, pretty eventful level for our bard!
HP total: 72
Saves: Fort +5 Ref +10 Will +7
New performance: Dirge of Doom
Skill totals: Acrobatics +14, Climb +14, Diplomacy +7, Intimidate +14, Knowledge (geography)+9, Perception +11, Perform (singing) +14, Profession (sailor) +11, Sleight of Hand: +8, Spellcraft +7, Stealth +16, Swim +11, Perform (dance) +7
BAB: +6/+1
Spells known: swapped out blur for cure moderate wounds, gained good hope
Intelligence score: 16
Leadership score: 11
Hero points: 3
CMB: +7 CMD: 20
Now, given my Leadership score had increased, I'm eligible for another follower of 1st level. Sandara also has to level up which I'll do in a sec.
