Seeing the flying heads come right toward them, "Okay you creepy freak shows, time to die," he mutters as he finds himself with a chance at an opportunistic strike as the flying heads move in.

The revolting creatures fall to Maria & Jack the moment they draw close.
Ok, I'm going to hand wave the rest of the fights on this level. All seem to specialize in being annoying in design. No loot and only pests to fight.
With the central stairwell collapsed the only way to the higher levels seem to be wooden doors set high above you on the cylindrical chambers.
20' climb, open the locked doors and lower a rope.
What are you doing now?
Lazar Dobrescu |
Are those barrels in the middle of K4? Could we use them to help climbing?
Maria Vaduva |
Maria eyes the wall up to the door. "Doesn't look like my specialty."
I have +6 climb if I take my armor off but I think others are more qualified?
Gadren |
"I have some stout rope and could use a little magic to levitate it up there. Tying it would require too much finesse... if we have it tied like a lasso and I can loop it around an appropriate piece of the ruins of the stairs or other masonry it might make the climb far easier." Gadren looks for a solid object to loop the rope around.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Lazar Dobrescu |
Lazar shrugs and turns to Jack. "Hey, mate, are you going to let this damsel here without her climbing hero?" he says, hands pointing at Maria.
Maria Vaduva |
Maria laughs sharply and turns to Jack, crossing her plated arms and nodding. "That's right, Jack. Will you be my hero?" she intones, her voice dripping with deadly, acid sarcasm. Under her breath, she mutters to Lazar "Be thankful that you've had my back enough to talk about me like that."
Jack Ryder |
Lol! I love it! "...acid sarcasm". That's just so dang funny. And honestly, I think that's her putting it 'nicely'. :P
Turning to Maria with a look that obviously reads between the lines of her questioning - or possibly between a ten lane highway as far as that goes, "Hardee har har. Okay okay, I got this. I totally don't got this. Why do I have to do all the climbing? This sucks. Just watch, and learn, folks," he says with absolute confidence. Unless you prefer to live a fairly long life then I would highly recommend you do neither. The rogue then looks up and pretends to eyeball exactly how he's going to make it up there - How the Nine Hells am I going to make it up there?! This sucks. - before proceeding.
@DBH: If Jack can use the chains on the cages, he will. Not sure how much it'll help but I'll take whatever if anything.
Climb: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Lol!!! You gotta be kidding me! Oh man that's awesome.
Lazar Dobrescu |
"Man, that was one hell of a climb" lazar says, patting Jack on the back. "You have her in your hand, for sure" he whispers, winking.
"We might want to check what's beyond those doors" he then comments to no one in particular referring to K5, K7 and k8. "Should we start with the closer one?"
Maria Vaduva |
Maria shrugs without comment as Jack climbs the wall and heads up the rope after him. Reaching the top, she unslings her falchion and nods to Lazar. "Sure. The closer one."
Gadren |
"Sounds like as good a climb as any. All this scrambling over rocks reminds me of the good old days back in training. Just you and your comrades against the obstacle course!"
Jack Ryder |
"Man, that was one hell of a climb" lazar says, patting Jack on the back. "You have her in your hand, for sure" he whispers, winking.
Looking over at the ranger with a raised eyebrow and a slight smirk, "Oh yeah, for sure, Mr. Funny Guy. At this rate, I'm thinking by the time I'm 138, she might actually not want to pound my face in. But hey, baby steps and all that, right? You understand," he says, nodding in a matter of fact way before switching to shaking his head and grinning.
"Sounds like as good a climb as any. All this scrambling over rocks reminds me of the good old days back in training. Just you and your comrades against the obstacle course!"
Nodding excitedly, "Yeah! That's right! The good ol' days and the obstacle course. Man you've sure got to love those," he says, smiling. Crazy old man.
GM_DBH |
The four doors open into the chambers you've been fighting in, so nothing new to find there, however in the alcoves on the corridor you find.
Loot:
A potion of displacement.
A potion of gaseous form.
And two vials of alchemically preserved basilisk blood (considered fresh for the purposes of restoring petrified creatures to flesh.
A potion of nondetection.
And a wand of charm monster with 44 charges.
K11. The High Bridge
A grand stone bridge arches over the gorge to a stack of rock on which perches a high tower topped with a lightning rod.
What are you doing now?
Maria Vaduva |
Loot added to the unclaimed column of the sheet. Anyone want to claim some stuff? Gadren seems like our monster charmer.
So we cleared out this area, is that what I understand?
Maria eyes the stone bridge to the tower, trying to determine how hard it will be to cross.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
GM_DBH |
The bridge is 3 feet wide and has no handrails, but is not otherwise dangerous, unless the PCs attempt to cross it at full speed, in which case a DC 10 Acrobatics check is required.
The Lightning Tower
A great stone tower perches atop a sheer stack of rock above the river. The tower climbs to an elaborate iron steeple, from which a huge lightning conductor calls out to the skies.
The door at the base of the tower is a stout, iron bound one, and it is locked.
Cedric Rydell |
hmmm... jack, are your breaking and entering skills good enough for this one? Cedric asks, genuinely curious.
he will glance over it, trying ot help make sure this one doesn't have any traps like the past ones did.

"Hmmm... Jack, are your breaking and entering skills good enough for this one?" Cedric asks, genuinely curious.
He will glance over it, trying to help make sure this one doesn't have any traps like the past ones did.
Grinning wryly he asks, "Are you kidding me?" He then turns to Gadren, "Is he kidding me? Did he really just ask that?" Looking back to their resident healer, "Watch and learn, my good man! Watch. And. Learn." He gives a wink as he pulls out his "special" tools and proceeds to work on the lock with superior precision and unadulterated confidence.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (20) + 18 = 38 LOL! Oh man this is crazy fun. :)
GM_DBH |
Jack easily slips the lock, which seems more difficult that it should be? But still no match for his skills.
Arcane lock was on the door.
L1. The Insane Guardian
A curving stone staircase winds along the wall of this circular chamber up to a trapdoor in the ceiling some thirty feet above. The room is in chaos, with books, alchemical equipment, and curiously twisted metal everywhere. A huge, broken cage stands in the center of the room, its bars bent and door smashed open.
In the center of this destruction stands a nightmarish figure, fully 10' tall with four arms and a gorilla's head. It seems to have been stitched together?
A Flesh golem made from Gorillon parts.

Maria looks skeptically at what Gadren is doing and moves forward, preparing for trouble should the creature prove hostile.

Yes it does.

Maria Vaduva |
Maria heals herself swiftly and grits her teeth as more pain is incoming.
LoH: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2) = 5
Ignoring the boar, Maria moves behind the golem herself.
Jack and I have outflank so this is what we really need. Provokes. HP is Maria's main concern right now. Is that a standard action summons or does the boar appear after the golem's turn?
Then she raises her sword and brings it down once Jack is in position.

As you ready to leave the room and rest Jack & Gadren both notice someones writings have been pinned to the back of the door. A quick look shows a mention of something called the Bondslave thrall?
Unfortunately, the notes have become so soiled and torn that they are virtually illegible.
However, a DC 30 Linguistics check or comprehend languages spell can decipher enough of the notes to learn of the existence of the Bondslave
Thrall and its ability to control the Beast of Lepidstadt, but not
its location or how to actually activate it.
What are you doing now? A rest would be a good idea. Subtle hint. :)
Lazar Dobrescu |
Lazar tries to decipher the scripture, but to no effect. He disregards it as impossible, leaving maybe Gadren to it as the old man seems more versed on calligraphy than him - or maybe he has a proper spell to it.
As the group seem to require some rest, he offers to spend his magical energies healing them. "I still have a lot. Actually, I'll cast a warning spell when we find a good spot to rest."
You guys have at your disposition 3xCLW spells (1d8+5), 4xCMW spells (2d8+7) and 1xCSW spell (3d8+7).
Maria Vaduva |
Maria winces and nods with a grimace. "I suppose we could rest now."
CLW: 3d8 + 15 ⇒ (4, 1, 7) + 15 = 27
CMW: 2d8 + 7 ⇒ (5, 8) + 7 = 20
So that's 3 clw and 1 cmw.
Lazar's healing has Maria up to speed pretty soon again. She nods firmly "I can take first watch."
This seems like an ok spot, as far as we can tell, because it's a dead-end.
