Be cautious, you already decapitated a helpless villain who was bleeding out. :)
It's more the way you word it for Ala'Ihys, he's one of virtue after all.

I kinda wish I brought in my Oracle or Inquisitor now to argue with our Paladin :D Mostly because the Oracle woreships a LE deity, Lissala and would argue how she was the first to bring civilisation and equally hates the same beasts as Ala'Ihys where as the Inquisitor is of Lamashtu and would enjoy talking about the beauty of mutation and how she was raised with them. However, I believe the crazy bard possibly presses his buttons every now and then.
Joseph raises his eyebrow as he looks over to their paladin companion.
"Is lying so terrible you would not partake to fight a greater evil? Getting your hands a little dirty to dig out a filthy root? Isn't that what gardeners do?" he states to him "Is it not good to state a sweet lie than to ruin someone's world with a harsh truth?"
| GM Chyro |
The crazy bard pressing buttons now and then makes for good RP, it'd be a shame if that factor would totally disappear.
Ala’Ihys the Archer
|
Ala'Ihys rolls his eyes, first at Toorin and then Joseph, "A feint in a fight allows one to test how your foe will defend against it." Then smiling he adds "If you haven't noticed I prefer the bow, which when aimed properly fires straight and TRUE." he continues "and you are right I am 'willing to kill those who refuse to relent from their evil ways' but there is no joy in it. And no I am not willing to lie to defeat those who are equally unwilling to repent. I will find a different way to defeat them." Looking to Brallenera for a moment the dwarf understands honor even if the elf or bard do not. "My oath to speak only truth is based on my honor, not on a desire to fight evil." Then finally looking sadly at Joseph "To mistake beautiful life giving soil as something to be avoided shows your error. If anything the lie is the filthy root that will grow and choke out those things that are good that need to be removed. And you right there are harsh truths but to believe there are such things as a 'sweet lie' already speaks of the depravity of your soul Joseph, I will pray to the Dawnflower that it may be rescued."
Giving a sigh "I am not in charge here, I cannot stop you from soiling yourself with untruths, but I will have no part in it. My vote is to free them, saying nothing if necessary. Or to chose some other mode of action. What say you all? " looking from pathfinder to pathfinder resolved that they must decide as a group.

Maybe I can ask them roughly? No need to take gloves with them.. Awww, I mean, of course you have to wear gloves if you don't want to get their diseases, but there is no need to be polite.
Turning to Joseph and Toorin
Aww, Pointy-Ears, Songbird, you don't have a spell that could bend them to your will?
Toorin
|
"If you can suggest a way to keep them from suspecting that we will follow them to their hideout without the need for deception, I will gladly hear it and likely support it. But these men have demonstrated by the very acts of cultivating and distributing infection plants that they are willing to risk their own deaths for their cause and are quite possibly resigned to death at this point. So if they think we might follow them, they will likely lead us away from our goal and we will waste valuable time in the wild goose chase."
"I fail to understand Ala'Ihys' objection to lies in this circumstance. You have been willing to attack to wound or kill such evil men in the past and just yesterday you consented to confining them and forcing them to come along with us, which is tantamount to making them slaves. I know you would normally never hurt someone or take their freedom away without cause, yet you clearly can do such things to evil people when there is cause. Why not add lying to the list? We are not deceiving them for purpose of private greed or in pursuit of other evil goals. No one is hurt by them believing we already have learned from another source of their hideout's location. All it does is motivates them to move with maximum haste once they escape to try to warn their co-conspirators our our approach, while also making them less alert to our following them. Only good can come from that!"
"I want to respect your religious scruples and I generally admire them, but I confess I am baffled by this objection. If you can't come up with another way to motivate them to head for their base as soon as they are released, then I must insist we follow the plan I suggested. You'll just have to come to terms with the fact that your moral purity cannot always be preserved in the pursuit of such evil scoundrels."
Ala’Ihys the Archer
|
Ala'Ihys shakes his head at his friend, "I fight to stop evil, I have even participated in deception by telling partial truths, remember I said I was will to them we were releasing them because we would not care for them, that is a partial truth, some would call it a lie by omission, I do not. The fight I fight is against evil as you have pointed out. The reason I do not lie has nothing to do fighting evil. I do not lie because of the evil that the lie will do to me. As I said if you as a group want to lie to these men I cannot stop you. But I will not participate. Having said that, let us go ask the fey about this 'basin' and then decide."
Brallenera Thalkham
|
Aww, maybe we can just bind them in a secured place where they can do no harm and won't contaminate people. Then I'll follow the tracks of their chariot, but we must hurry before they fade away.
Ala’Ihys the Archer
|
Ala'Ihys nods his head in agreement with Brallenera's idea. "I believe that would work, if not, and if the fey can be of no assistance we can return to our decision about releasing the 'gardeners'" Turning to the dwarf he asks "Do we need to be on foot for you to track them? I do not know how well Khansim will do in the forest, he was bred for the desert."
Brallenera Thalkham
|
Awww, with my Ponycorn, my feet aren't very too far from the ground anyway, Sarenaen.
She winks
We'll probably have to pause now and then so I can pick up the trail.
| GM Chyro |
I'll take the second motion for tracking and safety of no misleading from the captives.
I'll just take her survival roll from previously.
With the party focused on conjoined effort, leaving 4 captives in a very secure crate with holes, you follow the initial tracks for a few hours.
Weather?: 1d2 ⇒ 1, it is a sunny day and no rainfall is hindering your search.
Brallenera, DC 15 survival check please.
| GM Chyro |
Sure.
Brallenera's tracking leads you, how surprising, to the flower field from earlier. However, there's some slightly faded footprints coming from a different direction, indicating perhaps 2 people?
Follow the foot prints?
| GM Chyro |
With a bit of careful looking, Brallenera picks up the trail.
You follow it for another hour or so, you notice it's falling towards later afternoon 16:00.
To your dismay, the tracks become a blur at some point, as they mingle and form a mix of feet to the point of flattening out the ground.
Suddenly, there's a rustling in the undergrowth and bushes.
A young satyr jumps out of the bushes, yet unaware of you, about to cross the road.
Toorin
|
Ala'Ihys shakes his head at his friend, "... The fight I fight is against evil as you have pointed out. The reason I do not lie has nothing to do fighting evil. I do not lie because of the evil that the lie will do to me. ..."
To this Toorin shakes his head, obviously not comprehending the distinction. "Telling a lie does some great harm to you but shooting someone through the heart with an arrow does not? I have heard brave and good warriors who have fought a just war against an evil foe return from battle very much changed. Even though they knew killing the people they killed was necessary to the fight against evil, the killing left them changed and haunted. I feel it every time I have to kill in the fights we have shared. I fail to see how telling a lie such as I suggested can harm the soul any more than killing does. It is a price I am willing to pay to do my part for my community and friends who cannot fight for themselves."
Toorin does not pursue the issue further and is content to follow the path of the cart.
Suddenly, there's a rustling in the undergrowth and bushes. A young satyr jumps out of the bushes, yet unaware of you, about to cross the road.
Toorin gestures for the others to stay back and walks forward, hands empty and open. He speaks in Sylvan, "Maith saytr! Bhuail maith! Tá mé Toorin, mac Barathon de Kyonin. Bhfuil mo chairde Aimsitheoir Cosán nithe práinneacha a phlé leis an fey an réigiún seo a bhaineann leis an choimhlint idir an fey agus na daoine agus an breoiteachta go bhfuil a dhéanann difear dá phobal."
I may need some aid on this, so feel free to jump in with whatever diplomatic props you can.

Ala’Ihys the Archer

Seeing the Satyr burst through the woods, Ala'Ihys lowers his bow and calls out. "Peace to you, Master Satyr!" pausing long enough to let Toorin speak Ala'Ihys asks Toorin If out fey fried does not speak common can you translate?" the turning back to the forest creature he continues "I am Ala’Ihys Amatullah al-Rashid, Servant of the Dawnflower, Venerator of Sunlord Thalachos, Rider of the Histaqen, knight of Relios and these are my fellow Pathfinders. We have been sent to you to assist in the finding of a cure for this wasting disease caused by the flowers."
diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
can we use Ala'Ihys roll, and use Toorin's as an aid?
| GM Chyro |
Your roll assisted by Toorin would definitely cover the deal.
I'll go with that result.
The satyr stops dead in its tracks and looks with surprise at you all.
While Toorin is not the most impressive, Ala'Ihys seems to give off a vibe of honesty.
Having noticed Toorin speaks Sylvan, the satyr replies to him.
"Autaia, korero koe i te arero o taku iwi. Ehara i te mea pai rawa taku pūkenga o koutou.
E kore o nga kaitapahi rakau e koe manene, e nui he etahi ka ki ahau.

"Stranger, you speak my people's tongue. My skill of yours is not too good.
You strangers are not of the wood cutters, that much is certain then to me.
I have been split off from my patrol, we were escaping from an infested dryad grove and on our way to report to the queen.
I can escort you to a glade, the queen might grant you an audience, to discuss the problem of this blight."
Toorin
|
To the Satyr, Toorin says, "Go raibh maith agat. Ní mór dúinn dul go tapa."
To the group, he translates, "He has been split off from his patrol while escaping an infested dryad grove. They were on their way to report to the queen. He has offered to escort us to a place where we might speak with the queen, if she is willing to grant us an audience."
| GM Chyro |
The satyr leads you through undergrowth and pathways you would not imagine being there. After an hour and a half, you arrive at a grove.
The scene there is breathtaking, small patches of flowers decorate the ground around the trees, which themselves give off an air of serenity.
From a growing patch of large leaves, a beautiful green colored woman, adorned with leaves, vines and flowers comes forth.
There are many, many figures watching you from within and around the trees.
The satyr kneels and speaks in Sylvan, announcing you as pathfinders seeking to aid the queen and Falcon's Hollow. She then dismisses him with a modest hand gesture.
"Welcome pathfinders, i am glad to see my request for help did not go unheard. By coming here, i take you have found a cure to the blight?"

perception: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Seeing there are many, many figures watching from within and around the trees, Ala'Ihys puts his bow away and bowing deeply answers. "I am Ala’Ihys Amatullah al-Rashid, Servant of the Dawnflower, Venerator of Sunlord Thalachos, Rider of the Histaqen, knight of Relios, and we are your humble servants. We are working with an expert who has made strides in the treatment of the blight. We detained some men who were working with the flowers that cause the blight and during discourse they commented several things. First, that the town will die for its misdeeds, Second: The fey are just collateral. Third that they hindered mistress Vondrella in her revenge. Most importantly, Fourth, that tonight will be the feast, at the basin, in celebration of this town's demise. Do you or any of your people know who this Vondrella is or where the basin is at? Or has any seen humans moving through the forest, converging on a specific location?"

But of course, it is obvious.
She even drops the blade on the tall grass, and curses her stupidity
Awww, sorry for that...
| GM Chyro |
She mildly smiles at Brallenera's attempt to hide the axe.
"Worry not, you'll not get 'surprised' for carrying one."
She then answers to Ala'Ihys:
"Expert.....you must mean Laurel. Yes, she is a caring human, one if deem akin to a friend. Yet by answering thus, a cure has not been found.
You speak of the basin?"
A thin green brow raises slightly.
"The basin was created by an evil fey long since gone. Consumed with vengeance, she crafted it to cause lethal illness to any human foolish enough to drink from it.
As to a gathering of humans, there is a clearing far to the north, where touch with the trees has been lost. Evil energies linger there."
A small creature pops from the ground near her feet and presents a bag, it then disappears.
"Thank you.
This bag dropped off a wagon, you might make use of it, if you are seeking to fight whatever is there. It has a map and some items in it."
A crude map leading to a clearing

Awww, Laurel has been able to heal the few of us that were ill. But I don't know if the cure she found would have the same effect on feys. For the basin, what do you want us to do? Should we try to destroy it, as it might be the source of the disease? Or do you want us to clear the clearing ? It seems we have the same foe...
| GM Chyro |
"The basin could well be there, as the evil energies are the same as back then. How you deal do with the basin, i leave up to you."
Toorin
|
"Expert.....you must mean Laurel. Yes, she is a caring human, one if deem akin to a friend. Yet by answering thus, a cure has not been found."
"Laurel is her name. She has found ways to help people survive the disease, but it may be too much to say it is a cure. I believe the cause of the illness is fell magic. We encountered undead wolves who spread the disease as well as flowers which can cause it. So necromancy may be involved. We hope that by finding those who apparently have developed the disease, we can discover the key to finding a better cure. We will do everything we can to eliminate or bring to justice the perpetrators of this scourge. My people have suffered similar corruption in Kyonin by evil forces. I will do my utmost to deal with this menace, as will my fellow Pathfinders."
"The basin was created by an evil fey long since gone. Consumed with vengeance, she crafted it to cause lethal illness to any human foolish enough to drink from it. "
"It sounds as if it may be a matter of using this foul source to water the flowers we discovered. Perhaps if we can get a sample of the water, a cure can be developed that overcomes the corruption it causes. Thank you for your help. After this is over, I hope we can get the consortium that handles logging in the area to change their ways to be kinder to the forest and to the humans who do their logging. That should go a long way toward improving relations between the humans and the fey."
Toorin would like one of the potions to reverse his lost Constitution and bring his hit points up a bit.
| GM Chyro |
"Sadly, many of those in my care have fallen ill. Some have passed away. If Laurel does find a cure, we would have ample ways to copy her method and save the ones still ill."
Good 2 go?

Seems so.
Joseph takes the time looking over the various different creatures in the grove.
"They're so beautiful."
"They have a different beauty, but not one as great as our mother. However...those satyr's have attractive horns and legs."
"Are there females of their species?"
"Not the satyrs, they're male only, but some of the beings may but I doupt you could convince them to carry your corrupted seed."
"We will bring this cure back and hope we can keep up communications after this." he states when getting ready to head out again.
| GM Chyro |
A certain bird does....
The group is escorted back out, looking back you see no path and no glade behind you, only bushes, trees and grass.
Yet...you did visit a glade....
With the directions towards the tainted clearing, you head out and arrive an hour or so later.
It's in the evening indeed, dim lighting.
20% Miss chance for those without special vision.
As you arrive, you get a vibe this is the right place, the smell of rotting tree leaves welcomes you, the trees themselves seem gloomier and their leaves more brown than green.
In the distance, you see a bizarre banquet, but from your distance you can only see about a dozen or so people. What is on the table, is yet unknown. Some basic lamps illuminate just the table.
The group does fairly well to approach, save for the clinking of Brallenera's armor, which becomes too evident not to hear.
