GM Brunoreturns |
Sounds like you guys want to start combat, so let's begin. There is no surprise round.
Paëral: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Barkot: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Squint: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Deric: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Ulyi -5
Red

Paeral
Reillana
Backalley Barkot |
Barkot moves up behind Deric and Paëral, pulls out a wand, and calls down Soralyon's blessing on the party.
Move 15', swift action to pop wand out of spring-loaded wrist sheath, standard action to cast bless (no benefit from buckler until next round).
Jacobadiah 'Squint' Nirodin |
”Into the fray, Ulyi!” Squint cries out, readying his lance.
Ride Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Reckless Luck gives him a bonus to his +2 AC this round.
Melee, Lance, Silver, Bless: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 1 = 131d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Ulyi |
Ulyi, strangely quiet, moves forward and goes to bite at the nearest nupperibo.
Melee Attack, Reach, Bless, Power Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 = 141d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
GM Brunoreturns |
@Squint I think that this time you actually get to perform a real charge. All the conditions are met. Unfortunately, these guys are so weak it doesn't matter.
Squint's lance pierces the devil with no issue and it crumples to the ground.
GM Brunoreturns |
They do. Maybe I misremembered where your token was. Ah well, it still didn't matter.
Deric Vel |
Deric moves 20 feet west and swings at the red thing. "For the Suzerain!"
magical ranseur: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
damage: 2d4 + 11 ⇒ (3, 2) + 11 = 16
GM Brunoreturns |
Red is sliced in half.
Green mindlessly comes after Deric and gets cut down by his AoO.
END INITIATIVE
Taking a moment to look around at the room, the party stops and notices that the smell of the sea is quite strong. A trail of salt encrusts the floor leading from the southern door.
A second door leads further east.
Backalley Barkot |
Barkot takes a big sniff and scrunches up his nose. "That don't seem right, smellin' dat from all da way down here."
The half-orc follows a few steps alongside the trail of salt, then looks quizzically at the south door. "Whadda youse t'ink? Should we check it out?"
Jacobadiah 'Squint' Nirodin |
"No, thank you," Squint says. "I didn't take an injury in that last battle."
Sorry - I hadn't updated my stat line after being healed by Barkot at the end of the previous combat.
GM Brunoreturns |
The door does not appear to be trapped, so Paeral opens the door to look inside.
The temperature on the other side of the door is chillier than the rest of the Crow so far. The smell of salt and sea is even stronger, and the reason for the smell is obvious right away.
In the center of the room is a spiral stair descending into murky darkness. Water fills the stair nearly to floor level, where a thing layer of blue energy shimmers.
Carvings of soldiers marching to war line the walls, encrusted with salt.
Another door leads to the east.
Reillana Myerishil |
"I thank you for your concern, Deric, but I am well."
Reillana hesitates when she sees the stairwell, echoing Squint's skepticism. "It certainly seems to go on forever, yes. I'm not certain we have any good options, Squint. The charm on Deric may prod him him to react...strongly...if we try to stop here." She eyes the carvings with interest. "The motifs of conflict and struggle are hard to miss, these Thassilonians were clearly a warlike people. Should we take another rubbing?"
Spellcraft (thin blue energy?): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
This dice roller has not been Reillana's friend lately!
GM Brunoreturns |
Reillana has absolutely no idea what the blue field of force might be nor why the water underneath it isn't flooding into the room and turning the entire structure into an underwater labyrinth.
Backalley Barkot |
"I dunno if we oughtta go too far in dere," Barkot growls. "Unless dat suggestion spell gave Deric gills an' he's able ta share, we ain't goin' down dose stairs no matter where dey go."
Deric Vel |
Deric swings his ranseur in a complete circle. "I will not beg for healing after being your front line. You are now on your own." Deric heads back the way he came. He double moves west.
Deric intends to deliver the magical ranseur to Lady Heidemarsh and go on his way.
Backalley Barkot |
Barkot tries but fails to stifle a laugh as he puts his wand of bless back in its wrist sheath. "No, definitely, whatever ya do, don' beg fer healin', Deric. Or mention dat yer hurt. We'll figger it out on our own."
Before Deric stalks too far off, the oracle allows his healing wand to drop from his other sleeve, then taps the fighter with it until his wounds are healed.
Deric, use as many charges on the wand as you need to get yourself to full HP - roll them yourself.
Deric Vel |
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Feeling better, his thoughts return to the Suzerain. Heidmarch can wait. His temper still getting the best of him, he replies to the half-orc. "I do not risk my life for just anyone. I am glad you find humor in it though. I suppose you could find humor in most anything, Barkot." Still fighting the rage, Deric does not smile but looks at Barkot. He moves away hoping to calm down. "I am ready to kill something now."
GM Brunoreturns |
Proceeding through the eastern door reveals a spiral staircase leading up into a dome about 20 feet above the floor.
The party climb the stairs to find observation platforms on three sides overlooking the floor of Outcast Cove. There don't appear to be windows of any kind, but no water is coming through the openings.
Deep beneath the surface, murky light filters down, revealing curtains of seaweed waving by the "windows".
Jacobadiah 'Squint' Nirodin |
Perception Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
"Do you all notice how the water doesn't seem to flow like.....water.....through some of the holes and doorways in places where you'd think it would?" Squint asks bluntly.
Reillana Myerishil |
Trying not to be impressed, Reillana moves over to the next door and opens it. "It will be a sad day when this bridge finally falls into the sea. Hopefully not while we're in it," she remarks offhandedly as she hauls the door open and peers into the room beyond.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
GM Brunoreturns |
About 120 ft. FYI You would be considered to have firm footing out to the shipwreck, swim checks might be required to explore the ship
Reillana Myerishil |
Apologies, I meant the door in the eastern wall where our tokens currently are. We can put that on hold if Paeral wants to check out the ship
GM Brunoreturns |
Slight retcon...
While looking out the "window" at the shipwreck, Paeral's fingers come to rest on a piece of stone on the sill that shifts.
Taking a closer look, he finds a small hidden compartment that contains two scrolls.
Paëral |
"Ah, what's this?"
Paëral retrieves the scrolls and gives them over to the caster types for them to peruse and perhaps identify...
"I'd like to check out the ship...but knowing the creatures that we've already faced that lurk in the water, I wouldn't mind somebody watching my back...would anyone be willing to walk out to the shipwreck with me, and keep an eye out while I swim down to check it out?"
Paëral |
"Thanks, Deric..."
With Masterwork Studded Leather, I don't think I'll have an armor penalty to swimming...if I do, I'll strip down to my skivvies and a belt for my short sword...
Paëral will remove his cloak and all other gear besides his studded leather and his short sword, to stick things with if he finds trouble. He walks out with Deric as close to the ship as he can get, and dives in. He'll swim to the shipwreck and keep an eye out for both foes and anything interesting within the wreck...
Swimming: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
GM Brunoreturns |
If you swim, you move at quarter speed. If you walk on the bottom, you move at half speed, but you have to be carrying at least 16 pounds. I don't believe there is any ACP for mwk studded leather.
I am not sure what you mean by "walk out...as close as he can get". You are at the bottom of the bay, everything is underwater. For that matter, you are not currently sure of any way to actually get outside.
Paëral |
My bad GM...I misunderstood when you said firm footing...thought it meant that I could walk a ways partially underwater before I started swimming. So I'm assuming we'd have to walk down the stairs into the water, and then walk towards the ship? Or am I still misreading things?
Anyone have the life bubble spell?
GM Brunoreturns |
Squint determines that the scrolls are Water Breathing.
@Paeral OK, I understand now. You can walk the entire way to the ship, if that is the choice.
Paëral |
Thanks, GM. Water Breathing scrolls; well that's convenient. If there's someone that can use the scrolls on Deric and I, then we'll walk out to the ship as per my previous post...and I'll swim if needed to search the ship...if not, I don't imagine we could hold our breath long enough to search the ship...
Jacobadiah 'Squint' Nirodin |
Squint tells Paeral that the scrolls are water breathing.
"Hey, Paeral, these scrolls are water breathing scrolls. I know that you can't read magic like I can, so you wouldn't know that these are water breathing scrolls, but hey - that's what I'm here for."
Squint stares at Paeral.
Backalley Barkot |
Barkot stops smiling and raises an eyebrow as Deric stalks away. Huh. What's eatin' him?
Paëral smiles at Squint. "That's awesome, Squint! Can you apply these scrolls to Deric and myself?"
"Before ya go out dere, guys, do ya want me ta send out my ghost rat ta check it out first?"
Jacobadiah 'Squint' Nirodin |
”Ooooh,” Squint frowns, looking at the scrolls. ”I’d need a m-m-moment to figure them out.” The halfling looks especially unnerved.
It’s not on the inquisitor spell list. Someone else?
GM Brunoreturns |
Wrong campaign? It is on the unchained summoner spell list, though you won't get it until level 7. An Oracle gets it at level 6, I think (3rd level spell for each)
