Yellow strikes at Shayna as she ascends the stairs!

She ducks as it attacks. This creates an opening that Shayna is in excellent position to take advantage of! Unfortunately she misjudges the monster's location in the dim light and barely misses the mark!

Parry/Riposte from here applied.

Although that attack misses, she doesn't make the same mistake twice! Before the creature can recover, she lands a solid blow!

As that is happening, Kriklishik blasts the other creature.

Ray moves into position. As Green glances in that direction, Thomas thrusts his weapon through it. It falls to the deck just as Ray's morningstar comes crashing into it's skull.

Shortly after the combat ends, the captain comes out to see what happened.

Seeing the remains of the lacedons, he suggests they be thrown overboard. He checks a few things on deck, then decides it isn't worth going back to sleep.

The captain and Ewem start their daily ritual and soon the boat is underway again.

That's actually somewhat related to why I'm out here on this boat.
There are many dangerous things in the wilds of the world, creatures as well as secrets best hidden in safety.
My Calling is to serve as an ambassador to those who allow fear and selfishness to guide their actions, to help them see the glories that can be accomplished when we work towards a common goal.
This vessel and other paths are a surprisingly suitable vehicle for that Calling.

"But why he picked me and Mr. Sunshine for the team, I'm not really sure," she continues with a small shrug. "I know a little magic and I can talk to animals sometimes but that's about it. Maybe he knew something that I don't?"

Thomas was hanging in the ropes nearby, doing some stretching excersises upside down.

"The reason? I was told a person of discreteness could be an asset, and my regular job wasn't required for the time being, which i was sent to the venture officer."

His expression is one of little care, and more enjoying the moment.

In that case i advice you not try it in beautiful Tian Xia, at least not with the native peoples.
The different governments in the eastern lands are quite fond of tradition and culture."

Fun fact:
When the Europeans first entered Japan, the Catholics from Spain and Italy tried to convert as many of the Japanese as they could. The only Christians not trying to do so were the Dutch, whose mission was trade.
The shogun at the time didn't tolerate it, and gave an ultimatum to the foreigners. Burn your churches and cease the converting efforts, and you can stay, or don't and get out of Japan.
Only the Dutch burnt their church and stayed, establishing a successful trade hub, which is a museum at present. :)

Well, I was picked because I was available and close...can't see any particular reason other than that...maybe it's another test of sorts... Shayna ponders as she mulls about on the deck.

As they near Tamran, Shayna notices the captain be a bit more on edge. What's wrong, Captain? You look a bit nervous or something....

Although Fran is curious about Thomas and his views, she remains largely content to just watch and listen when he feels compelled to tell them of Tian Xia.

He's been nice enough to everyone and that's enough for me. The rest is his business to share only if he wants to.

However, Captain Walren's odd behavior is another story. But just as she moves to ask him about it, she sees that Shayna has beaten her to it. Still, she can't help but remain curious and so she edges closer to try and hear more of their conversation.

A day after the lacedon wake-up

"Occurs to me I should probably let folks know something, I kind of forget about it half the time, but so you're aware -- it takes me longer to get things out of my bags, and it gets downright creepy around me if things get really stressful, y'know, the whole spooky voices, lights, all that... and if I drop something, try to stay out of the way."

Ramon demonstrates by standing in the middle of the boat and dropping their morningstar, which goes skittering towards the edge of the boat before getting wedged in the boards about ten feet away.

"Don't know if it's the dragon being perverse on the contract, or the elements not liking me, but just want you to be aware, because it become an issue."

On the approach day:

"Is there anything we can do to help? Row? Any cargo we can jettison to make better speed? Making an evening approach to port is dangerous, but you know that. Don't think some of us do, though?"

The forms may change but the underlying functions do not differ as much as people pretend. After all, Sun Wukong, Empress Shizuru, are they any less gods where we stand? Their remit surely does not only extend to a single continent.

It has been a day and no one has moved positions on the ship, so I'm going to assume they were alright and move us forward.

It starts raining lightly as the sun sets. Thick cloud cover blankets the night sky.

You have been sailing about an hour since the sun set and can barely make out the lights of Tamran ahead.

Perception:

Kriklishik is the first to detect a small sail craft approaching the vessel. Ramon also notices it silently gliding towards your boat.

It is off the map, about a minute away on an intercept course. At this distance you can't really make out fine details.

Edit: wait, I assumed they were hostile, but we don't know, do we?

Eh, that said, if they're within 120 ft and haven't announced themselves, they're probably hostile. Nevertheless I will inform the captain as await instruction.

What I'll do if it's determined that they're hostile:

Kriklishik will quietly inform the others and tell them to get ready with their arrows or long-range spells and to watch for a beacon, and move to the side of the ship.

Then, when the boat seems to be about within his extended range (120ft) going to gather power for a full round and use extended range burning infusion to try to set the boat ablaze, starting with the sails.

I will do this multiple times in multiple spots, in an effort to disable their vessel. I don't know how quickly they're approaching, but if I can get two good shots in, I'll be satisfied. If more are needed, let me know.

By the way, gathering power, for a fire kineticist, is a serious light show. And I'm gathering for a round at a time. It would not be unreasonable for them to see me and shoot at me at 120ft. I'll include concentration checks.

As the ifrit starts doing his 'power-up' sequence, Ramon is tying her morningstar to her wrist with a weapon cord and putting on her shield, crouching low to the gunwales and watching the approaching vessel, should it get close enough to impact.

In the event the vessel goes up in a ball of flames, she'll leap over the side after stowing her shield to attempt to recover any survivors.

I'll allow buffing. They are a ways out yet. Right now the small boat has concealment because it is outside dark vision range and the cloud cover makes even low light difficult.

Kriklishik's burn will happen when it gets closer.
