I'm very interested in this! A question on the homebrew rules regarding multiclassing and PRCs, I like the trainer idea as it is silly for a dwarf armor master fighter to be a caster all of a sudden, but would you need to seek out a trainer for a natural progression for you class? I.E. my submission will be a rogue, and while not certain, I was contemplating taking assassin at a much higher level, 10+.
No, I don't want it to be something that takes over the game. It would be something more like hiring a trainer that follows you around, or if there is a "downtime" break it can be taken there.
Like I said, it can be something organic, too. Like learning from a friend in the party, or also if you do meditation for a prolonged time and then reach a "breakthrough moment".
I just think it is weird to be at breakfast after a long day and be like "Guess what guys? I know magic now! Check out these 7 spells I now know how to do!!!"
Whabooooyeah! (that is the correct noise while performing a cantrip)
Andando Morte
Alright thanks for that clear up.
And here's Bane88's rogue, Adando.
A few things I'll just request because I'm using the SRD and don't know for sure their source.
1. Tatooed Mystic(Human) seeing as our first place is Varisia after all.
Orelius Lionpaw
Could I come in as a Warpriest, from the playtest? I'll get to work on a character right now - even if that isn't allowed, it can easily enough be converted to a cleric. I like to play 'religious' characters - as in those with some sort of mission.
I could also play an Arcanist instead. Really depends on what I'm 'feeling'.

Re: 3rd party and/or playtesting type questions. I have received a few ?s and PMs about 3rd party stuff.
I am pretty open to playing whatever you want to play, as long as 2 things happen (DISCLAIMER: It may be more than 2 things, I am typing as I think. Two things just sounds better than " a few things"). I happen to think that Paizo products are the best tested products on the market right now, and I think that they do a very good job of attempting to balance their love of the game along with the lining of their pockets, so they don't have thousands of character types (that we would buy, who are we kidding?) that haven't been sufficiently put through the motions. But they don't own the entire market of good ideas, and I am for trying something new, under these conditions:
1. You actually love what you play. Ryan Costello Jr (from "Know Direction" and 3.5 private sanctuary) is playing a time thief in one of his games, and I think that sounds really fun! I wouldn't want someone to miss out on something like that. part B loving what you play is having a good awareness of where you want to go from level 1, to level 10, all the way to 17ish, when we finish. If there is enough material to support you playing up into the higher levels, or you have a clear plan to jump ship later on. I support it.
2. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART. You have to have a very clear understanding of the game. Pathfinder, and the story we make, isn't something to be "won." It is something to be experienced. What I am saying - without watering it down - is that you have to understand that there is a very real risk to breaking the game, and more importantly, spoiling everyone else's fun. The same is true for things inside of Paizo script, as well. IF WE CAN HAVE AN HONEST CONVERSATION ABOUT tweaking your character because it is doing either of these two things, and dialing it back, or moving into something else, then I think we can accomodate you and try something that seems like fun to you. Just remember that I am trying to have fun too, and so are the other players.
Look at that. It was just 2. :)
Alphonse Veritas
Wren frowns at Alphonse's reply.
"That wasn't you back in Kaer Maga? In the White Lady?" Wren asks, crestfallen. "Are you...sure...?"
Wren sighs, then seeks to explain.
"Surely you're familiar with the twice-born courtesans of the White Lady? Well, about 40 years back I was....blahblahblah...3 stiffs, or as they are called by management 'zombies,'...blahblahblah...massive open org-...blahblahblah...one man who's eyes I stared deeply into...blahblahblah...there was a moment that night...blahblahblah...when I was sandwiched between the two ulfen dwarves...blahblahblah...garundi tribesmen, where I thought, "Wow, I could really spend the rest of my life with this man."
Wren deflects back to her armor.
"Oh...these are Plume's contributions to my arcane arts. I'm so glad you like it," Wren preens. "What brings you here? Are you here for the adventure? I was told adventure could be found here."
"I'm afraid not..." Alphonse begins, before Wren launches into her explanation.
His eyes glaze over about halfway through but he endeavors to look polite and interested throughout the story.
He shakes his head to clear it as her story comes to a close.
"Well, I'm sorry things didn't work out."
He clears his throat.
"Well, I was just going to ask if you'd like another for your collection," he says, gesturing towards his hair "But it seems they're a bit more than just a hobby."
"What brings you here? Are you here for the adventure? I was told adventure could be found here."
At her question, he thinks for a moment.
"Hm. I suppose you could say that. I left home quite some time ago and have been wandering around ever since, with the occasional stop to visit my family when I'm in the neighborhood. I enjoy the adventure, yes, and seeing the sights, but I think I stay away from home more to avoid seeing my family grow old without me than anything else these days."
He grins again.
"Or I tell myself that, but the way my heart starts to race with excitement any time something new and exciting comes my way belies that, I think."
Allie "Cat" Calico
In response to Travis' question, Allie lays the letter on the table.
"This is sooooooo humiliating," she says, blushing again. "The sheriff of my hometown came to my house with this letter. He said that a messenger in noble livery had delivered it just that morning."
She pushes the letter with a finger, then covers her eyes for a moment, before resuming.
"Soooo, as you can see. The letter says that Lord Redfish saw me from his carriage window, and couldn't get me out of his mind the rest of his journey. When he reached his estate, he wrote this letter, and had his messenger deliver it to the sheriff."
"I was so excited! It's every common girl's dream to find love with a handsome nobleman who will take her away from a life of drudgery and bring her to a grand manor with sumptuous food and servants, and beautiful gowns. I used every last coin I had to get here, and now I am alone, in a strange town, without a copper to my name!"
Her eyes begin to water, and her lip quivers. Wiping the tears with the back of her hand, she continues.
"I am starting to think that there may not even be a Lord Redfish. It would just be like that Norva Dunchad to do something like this...(sniff)...she was always jealous of how Ethan smiled at me...(sniff)..."

Hrrrrrmm. You've either made my choice of class VERY easy with this, or not affected it at all (leaning towards Infiltrator Ranger currently as far as Paizo stuff goes).
The one 3rd party class I can say I've wanted to play since I laid eyes on it is The Taskshaper.
The main two issues with that being A.) It's 3rd party (which most people don't allow) and B.) It requires a lotta bookeeping (still an issue here).
So...*puppy dog eyes*
Morana Trailborn
This is Orelius! I made a Halfling Warpriest of Desna! I still need to flesh out the backstory some.
I've also been working on my own homebrew class called the Cursewalker, which is essentially a Bard/Witch combo with Sneak Attack (the Sneak Attack has limits though).

Morana walks into the tavern, and orders the barkeep's finest vodka.
"so how are you fine people doing today?"
Brayden Green
Rynjin, that looks very very interesting. Fortunately for you I have been watching a lot of "White Collar" with the wife lately, and the taskshaper sounds a lot like the main protagonist (highly recommend it for those of you that haven't seen it.)
I will allow it.
I do have a few questions/concerns. The first is I possibly don't understand the Improved Imprint Feat. (If it is saying that you swap two feats that you already have seen with one that you haven't yet, I would have to say that goes against the impetus or modus operandi of the character. It mimmicks things that it has personally seen. There is no wi-fi in golarion and as such, no youtube.)
The second is it seems like the "perfect copy SU" should be something more for 5th level, rather than 3rd. (At the same level a non-human archer would be learning rapid shot or quick draw, for example). Or the "perfect copy" could be more like "pretty good copy, unless seen up close" at 3rd level.
The other thing that I would be slightly worried about, is that I don't like a lot of the "you guys wait here while I go in and kill the bad guy/steal the chest" type gameplay, where everyone just sits around and waits for you to get back. That can either get you killed, or get the other players disinterested in the game, or both.
I think it is worth exploring, and I am coming down definitely on the right side of it for you! (providing that you can without a doubt say that #1 and #2 of the above re:3rd party post aren't a problem for you, and by default, me.)
:)
Orelius, I have a homebrew archetype called "Dragon Killer." At level 1 he is able to kill dragons, but he has a significant drawback: He can only do it once per day, and then he has to rest. ;)

Opening the door so as not to make too much of a scene, Vasily the Varisian bard enters, mandolin strapped to his back.
Approaching the barkeep, he orders a pint of stout and finds a place near the center of the room. Drinking liberally from the pint, he lays his cap upside down on the table, and begins tuning his mandolin, trying to draw as much attention to himself as possible.
The man is not tall, but not short either. He has the olive complexion and dark hair and eyes of teh native Varisians. He wears leather traveling clothes with a scarf of vivid orange and yellow twisted around his neck, like a bandana in a Western.
Finding his instrument tuned, he begins strumming the strings, bringing forth a lively melody, fit for dancing in the Varisian manner. He keeps time, clacking his boot heel on the floor for a bit of added percussion. His eyes scan the room, looking at the various patrons as he plays, his fingers seemingly moving of their own volition across the strings as if it were magic, instead of skill.
"Come now Lords and Ladies who will have a turn on the dancefloor. It is a shame to let such good music go to waste. If you like the playing, drop a coin in the hat, and I will continue. If you don't like it, drop a coin in the hat, and I will stop.". He smiles as the music builds to a crescendo, then when the tempo and the volume build to a fever pitch, the song ends suddenly.

I don't think that's what it means, by the way it's worded.
It seems like the intent is to allow you to swap two Feats you have, for another that you've seen OR one from your list of pre-chosen Feats at first level (which is increased from 4 by 3 +Cha, so a minimum of a pool of 7 fixed Feats you can choose even if you've never seen them).
It does seem a bit odd to me all around (you can already swap Feats 1 to 1, why would you want to swap 2 to 1?), and I'd be perfectly content to just stay away from it entirely since I have no clue how that's supposed to work in a specific sense.
The second is it seems like the "perfect copy SU" should be something more for 5th level, rather than 3rd. (At the same level a non-human archer would be learning rapid shot or quick draw, for example). Or the "perfect copy" could be more like "pretty good copy, unless seen up close".
Seems fine to me.
Can you give me your insight on Change Shape right quick?
When it says "the taskshaper has the ability to assume the appearance of any humanoid creature (usually a humanoid) by spending a moment of change, but retains all of her own physical qualities."
Do you take that to be an oddly worded thing that says "A Taskshaper loses none of her own physical abilities" or "A Taskshaper takes the form of A Humanoid (or later a beast, Dragon, etc.) but doesn't gain any of teh benefits of that form besides Size related qualities (i.e. doesn't gain Darkvision, Scent, etc.)".
I can see it going either way (though obviously I prefer the former =)).

Cool. I'm not a big fan of running off alone either. There's very few scenarios where that's a good idea IMO (usually you can bring your party with you, or are going off on a short jaunt to scout at most), and I've seen it get a buncha poor Rogues killed.

A moment after the bard's song ends, a loud crash pierces the cheering. All eyes jerk to fall upon a tall Mwangi man wrestling with a young gorilla in the mess of a smashed table. The two are hooting and screaming at each other playfully, but after a moment, the man stops as he sees that he is the center of attention.
The man grins sheepishly, his huge smile accentuated by his dark skin. "I am sorry, my friends, for disturbing your music. Sahibu started it. He punches the ape playfully then extricates himself from its furry arms. After standing and brushing himself off, the ape leaps onto his back and the two back to the wall, gesturing for everyone to carry on.
Hey, all. I'm Jake, one of Brayden's lucky established PCs. I'm excited to play with you. This is Suuktidi.
Travis Brogan
Travis glances at the letter, then takes a longer look, his reading skills not the best, but he gleans the gist of the missive. He looks back up at Elsie and tries to look as sympathetic as he can.
"I'm sorry this Lord Redfish failed to show up. Perhaps it is as you say, a jest of some kind, played by another. Have you ever heard of a red herring? It seems you were chasing one."
Count Stefan Petrescu
"The Lady of Luck bless me, upstaged again! And by a primate this time." Vasily laughs good naturedly, but see the tips have not come in despite one of his better performances.
He looks at the assembled personages and shakes his empty hat at them. "I may be from the country, but I know good music when I hear it. Give the man a coin or two, I beg, or the gorilla calls the next tune! Be not afraid to ask your lady fair to a dance. This song has been known to brig lovers together, even if it is about lovers apart..." He nods at Travis and "Elsie" urging them to begin.
He smiles and begins playing a well-known love song, joining his perfectly-timbred voice to the melody and backbeat of his boot. The song is sweet but sad and his rendition is haunting in it's sorrow.
Perform Sing: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Travis listens to Vasily's song and though he looks not to be the type to be easily moved, his eyes do brim with tears at the sadness of the words. He shakes his head to clear it when the song is over and smiles wanly at Elsie... He tosses a few coins into Vasily's hat.
Quietly, he requests, "Enough sadness. Play something upbeat please."

My understanding is that you would get those characteristics (so the latter of what you said) because it operates like the "Alter Self" spell.
Alter Self
School transmutation (polymorph); Level alchemist 2, bard 2, magus 2, sorcerer/wizard 2, summoner 2, witch 2
CASTING
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (a piece of the creature whose form you plan to assume)
EFFECT
Range personal
Target you
Duration 1 min./level (D)
DESCRIPTION
When you cast this spell, you can assume the form of any Small or Medium creature of the humanoid type. If the form you assume has any of the following abilities, you gain the listed ability: darkvision 60 feet, low-light vision, scent, and swim 30 feet.
Small creature: If the form you take is that of a Small humanoid, you gain a +2 size bonus to your Dexterity.
Medium creature: If the form you take is that of a Medium humanoid, you gain a +2 size bonus to your Strength.
Later on you get beast shapes and form of the dragon spells that give you real dragon characteristics like breath and such. Unfortunately you still have to use your stat block. On further reading, the ability shifts seem kind of broken for 5th level (Even more changes: every day you can get all of your "spells" back. Sheesh! Shape Lock should be only for creatures of a caster level less than you, shift condition is super broken (even death can be withstood... yikes, also avoid attack couldn't negate area attacks that need to be rolled. etc)
Travis Brogan
Travis nods to Vasily as he spins his performance into a wild dance number. Though he doesn't dance, he sits back down at the table with the others and taps his foot in time with the music. Clearly, if he had any desire or skill to dance, he'd most likely be doing so.
He turns to Elsie and asks, "So what will you do now? Alone and penniless in a strange town? I'd offer to help but I find myself without funds to speak of myself, just a few coppers. And I'm something of a stranger here as well."
Allie "Cat" Calico
"I'll probably starve," she replies with a childish whimper. She wipes away her tears, inhales deeply and let's out a long sigh that causes her to expose a tad more of her bosom than is proper.
"I suppose if I'm to be found dead in the gutter come morning, I should at least enjoy tonight."
With that, she rises from the table and saunters to the middle of the room, just in front of the man playing. She closes her eys, licks her lips, and runs her fingers through her hair; taking a moment to feel the music. She then begins to dance, moving with the music, spinning carefree like a child in a spring meadow. Despite the innocence of her expression and motions, she nevertheless manages to flash an occasional glimpse of her upper thigh, or a healthy amount of cleavage, although (she hopes) it appears to be the result of carelessness, rather than than deliberate titillation.

So are you saying yes to the homebrew? Or should I just keep on keepin' on with the Warpriest?
Also, unless you were being facetious, your Dragon Killer is terrible. Archetypes of that nature almost always get bonuses to-hit and to-damage, and occasionally energy resistance.

Hey GM, what are your thoughts on a Cavalier? Especially in relation to a mount being available in this AP?
If a mount isn't possible until a ways into the AP, I'd still be interested in playing one, but if a mount is totally unrealistic for the duration then I'll need to revise my planning.
Thoughts?
PS. I thought a Beast Rider could be especially well crafted to this type of AP, plus fun to play. :) My favorite Archetype is Honor Guard however.

She giggles innocently, and continues circling back to the center of the room.

My initial thoughts are to get a good backup plan. :) But I am about to read the campaign and start my research on it here today, and I will read it with that question in mind.
Shorga Brull
It may be premature, but after reading the Players Guide -which didn't discourage Cavaliers in the slightest- I'd like to submit Shorga Brull. Half Orc Cavalier (Honor Guard). I'm currently working on my backup plan, in case you nix Shorga. :)
One day a battle was fought and his Da never returned from the field, "Fighting to protect the next man'e was." stated a wounded townsman who'd seen his Da fall. That night Da's horse came wandering obediently back to their tent, and the next morning Shorga donned armor and with the townspeople drove the raiders completely out of the valley in a rout. However he did not know where to go, as Da alwasy seemed to, and so asked to be assigned as a guard to the local nobles house. A year he spent in the mans service, turning aside several attacks on the small town and saving the nobles life more than once.
The thieves knew exactly what road they were taking that day, and despite killing a half dozen himself, they were eventually overrun. A club swinging towards his face was the last memory he had before waking, hours later, astride Ursa - his horse. His armor was torn and rent, he was missing his shield and most of his gear, and blood was congealed around his many wounds, not to mention the ringing in his head.
He'd gotten them to a town, and used all but the last of his money to replace his armor, somewhat, and his sword. Shorga happened by a freshly painted proclomation outside a trading post, where his likeness was posted -a wanted half-orc fugitive for conspiracy against the Nobles family. That very moment his mind was made up, to seek out the land of his mother, to set to right the things that drove her to flee those lands, and ultimate led to her death at the hands of his evil half-kin.
Shorga Brull
The sound of a rider, galloping hard, is heard clearly outside on the road, and it pulls up in a clattering of hooves outside the establishment. Several quiet minutes pass before a half-orc, a little over six feet, but on the skinny side, steps inside. Accompanying him is the strong odor of horse, and road-dust falls from him with each step. He glances once around the room, a serious look on his face, and steps to the bar and leans over to order something from the barkeep, speaking in quiet but audible tones, "Exschushe me shir, an ale if you pleashe." The man speaks as if his mouth if full of rocks, or possibly over-sized lower canines, characteristic of his race. As the drink is received and he turns in his chair to face the room you notice he has poor fitting armor and a falchion of decent quality. Overall not a very impressive sight. The half-orc seems hesitant to make eye contact with anyone, letting his eyes settle for only a moment on any one particular person, giving him a nervous look. His lower lip seems a bit stretched, as if he's trying to hold his lips together tightly, perhaps trying to hide his elongated canines inside his mouth.
Travis Brogan
"You look roadweary, sir.. why not have a seat and join us?" Travis says, just loud enough to be heard over the bard's performance. He pushes a chair out from the table with one foot, inviting the newcomer to sit. He offers a slight smile, lips closed tight over his teeth, as if he, too, might have something to hide. "We don't bite. Name's Travis," he adds as an afterthought since Morana introduced herself.
Shorga Brull
Shorga glances up at the several greeting, a flash of panic crossing his features, quickly suppressed as he notices your friendly greetings. Picking up his ale he crosses the intervening space slowly, a trail of dust filling the air behind him. Standing next to the table Shorga inclines his head, "Greetingsh, I am Shorga." and sidles into the chair offered by Travis. "Thank you for the chair. It'sh alwaysh nishe to resht onesh legsh now and then."

YOU'RE NOT MY SUPERVISOR! (any "Archer" fans here?)
I'm joking about the "dragon killer" if that isn't clear to everyone.
Brayden Green
My rule about cavaliers is that their mount always needs to be large or bigger. If that works for you it works for me, especially if the player's guide doesn't dissuade from the cavalier.
I have heard too many horror stories from people with players riding medium sized mounts and racking up crazy charge bonuses in dungeons and caves where they wouldn't get to normally go.
Travis Brogan
"Welcome, Shorga. You must be tired after such a long ride. I am making assumptions of course, based on the road dust and the smell of horse about you, but excuse me if I'm wrong. Where are you from and what brings you here tonight? If you're not busy, the good cleric here says she's in need of help. I've already offered, but she hasn't taken me up on it yet, so perhaps I'm not the type she's seeking help from, eh?"
Travis sits back in his chair and fingers the half-full glass of whiskey before him. He looks to Morana with one brow lifted, questioningly.
Shorga Brull
The half-orc manages to look a little sheepish at the mention of road dust, but just smiles faintly at the remark about his smell. He considers Travis' question a moment, then shrugs, "Call it a 'family vishit'." At the mention of someone in need of assistance, he perks up instantly, "Help? What short of help ish needed?"

Wren smiles at the young man who has clearly forgotten their shared moment many years go. But if he wasn't want to pursue it, Wren lets him off the hook.
"Well, sorry to have bothered you. I do hope you find what you are looking for here," Wren says as the music starts and her attention divided. "We should talk again more later."
Wren politely leaves Alphonse to his music and returns to join Shorga and Travis at the table.
"Well, that didn't turn out well, Travis. Sorry to have left so abruptly. I thought...I though I seen someone I wanted to see again."
Wren turns her attention to Shorga, then back to Travis, awaiting introduction. After a few seconds of waiting, Wren makes her own introduction to Shorga.
"I'm Wren. Nice to meet you. You have a most beautiful tusk. If you ever think about selling it, I would be looking to buy," Wren smiles, unconcerned that asking if someone wants to sell the teeth out of their mouth was a big deal.
"What brings you here?"
Shorga Brull
Without grinning, Shorga nods towards Wren, about to reply -until she mentions his tusks. She just looks at her a moment, lips still tight, and you can see his tongue feeling around his teeth, as if probing to see just how visible the tusks are. Realizing Wren is looking at him, waiting for a reply, he just coughs, "Ahh yesh. Thank you, I think. I believe I will hold off on shelling thish for now. Ash to what bringsh me here, I jusht mentioned to Travish that I am headed to shee family. I'm in a bit of a hurry, but my horshe is tired and it'sh a long journey. What of you Wren?"

Been sick most of today and only got out of bed a few hours ago. Seems I've been locked out of a table in the meantime. =p
Alphonse pulls his chair closer to the center of the room, where he can hear the music and see Allie dance, but can jump back into the conversation when he feels like it.
He taps his foot to the music and bobs his head goofily as he listens.
After a little while, he tosses a silver coin into Vasily's hat and gives him a nod of appreciation.

So I have an idea for a Skinwalker Dread. Will you approve? I know exactly what I'm going to do each level. The concept is that he is a werewolf-kin who was forced to run away from home when he shifted for the first time in front of his father, a werewolf-hunter. So now he channels that fear to protect himself from those who would harm him.

well it makes sense for a small cavalier to ride a medium sized beast, like a halfling on a riding dog, but it makes no sense for a medium character to ride a medium beast, even a great dane can't carry a full sized man into combat
It makes sense from a visual standpoint. It will break your game though. It will break it in half, then laugh as you cry.
All mounts have to be size large for cavaliers in my games. It doesn't matter what size you are. :) I remember a player wanting to come into a game once where he was a tiny player riding a mouse as his steed. I was like "Nope, that would be way too OP". He was like "Wha?"
At about 7th level, that little rat rider would be felling all sorts of baddies with triple damage bonus on essentially every hit.

So you like the Dread? I'm using the Nightmare Constructor Archetype. The class is great because it's essentially what I was going for with that homebrew class I sent you.
Also, the tiny player would be doing at most 3d4+18 damage on a charge. What were you so worried about? That is essentially nothing to a CR 7 enemy?
