Fulgrim Stonebridge |
Fulgrim puffs on his stogie a bit.
"Not sure what that monkey-boy there is doin' or sayin', but if'n you want my wizened expert advice? Try the door before we start turnin' this into a climbin' match which'll split our happy little family up?"
Fulgrim opens the door, sees the whole staircase is choked with rubble and is totally impassable...then sighs.
"That is, unless one of ya'll want to hook my arse up and hoist me up? I'll do what I can to keep passin' gas to a bare minimum, promise." He calls out.
Rashid al-Iwar |
Taking a moment to doff his armor and stow it in his pack, Rashid walks to the crumbling Eastern wall. Working slowly so as not to cause the whole thing to tumble down around his ears he steadily ascends the precarious slope.
Taking 10 plus the aid I have a 16 to climb
Upon reaching the top he affixes the knotted rope and calls for the others to ascend.
Rafiki of Pride Rock |
I cast guidance on myseld, assume Rashid is steadying the rope (he can't fail to aid), and attempt the Climb bracing against the wall. If I succeed, I put my armor back on.
Aided guided Climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
GM Bart |
Fulgrim goes off and rechecks the door, apparently not trusting what his comrades have said about it being impassable. While Rashid takes off his armor and climbs up the fallen wall. Occasional rocks break off, but no harm comes to him and he's able to drop Sven's knotted rope down.
With the rope passed down everyone is able to make the climb to the next floor. Though Fulgrim waits below to be hoisted up.
On the second floor you can see a door in the southwestern wall and another in the northwestern wall.

Once Fulgrim is hoisted up...
Hydris makes sure his sling is ready for action and speaks in a louder than normal voice.
"Allright, lets check the NORTH door first."
Hydris however vehemently points at the south door, and prepares for its opening.

This octagonal room is covered in a fine layer of dust. It’s clearly been abandoned for a long time.
Rafiki of Pride Rock |
If nothing interrupts him, Sven will take the two minutes to give the room a good once over before we move on. Taking 20, Perception = 27.
While looking, he unconsciously mumbles something that sounds like "Flappen Jacken."

Rashid tosses a bundle of gear at the javelin tip in the wall, which does nothing ... until the sack hits the ground and sets off the pressure plate. The javelin fires and impales Sven's gear. No new javelin appears in place of the one that was fired.
As Sven's goes to retrieve his gear he notices some footprints around the door.

"I do not know for certain the reason for my powers. In my homeland, it is not uncommon to possess the ability to shape the elements to our will. It could be a blessing of Omrataji or Ashukharma, my local deities, or Irori himself! Or I might have descended from one such as our statuesque friend. There are many shaitan, djinn, and efreet that wander the Impossible Kingdoms.
"Whatever the cause, my skills manifested in the silver mines of Radripal. There was a nasty cave-in on my branch. Before I knew it, every fiber of my body was straining to hold the stone above me as my friends evacuated. It was an extraordinary event that I am unable to replicate, but it awakened my connection to the Earth. I practice everyday to hone my technique. The Perfect Man teaches us to constantly improve ourselves as we seek enlightenment."

Well, Adril did say that things might have taken root here. It would make sense if a group of Trogolodytes have moved in that there would be their young as well. It would be very odd indeed to only encounter their warriors within their home and not evidence of their women and children as well.
The Thinker |
Thinker seems to have just come back from his mind wandering,
Sorry guys schools starting got distracted in preparation but all should be better from here on out.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Rafiki of Pride Rock |
Sven imitates Crushna, but hears nothing. If Crushna (or others) hear signs of the next room being occupied, Sven will cast bless, hold up his fingers in a "3..2..1" count, and open the door suddenly to grant his allies a surprise round.
(In a strict rules terms, if we succeed a Perception check, I cast bless then initiate a surprise round afterwards. Everyone ahead of me in initiative holds for my surprise action of opening the door and taking a 5' step to allow charging into the next room, then the party comes off hold and gets the drop on them.
GM Bart |
You don't hear anything in the next room, though you all expect combat Sven casts bless and attempts to open the door to surprise the combatants in the next room. However they already stand with javelins ready to throw and clubs in their other hands.

Fulgrim Stonebridge |
Fulgrim (as discussed with the GM in person before I lost internet for a few days while moving) would have eventually huffed and puffed and cursed in every language he knows (Common (Taldane), Common (Bad Common), Dwarven, Undercommon, Terran, Goblin, Orc, and Polyglot) at the party for not hoisting his unhappy-arse up, but would have been just barely able to make the climb eventually.

Bluff: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17 To lie about having read their minds and learned all that stuff through psychic prowess and not just being an old fart who knows stuff.

As a standard action, Fulgrim casts Murderous Command on the red one to attack his buddy - Will DC 16 negates.
Bluff: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 (+8 [Total 21] to that if the GM considers this to be "lying") To pretend that he's just sticking his tongue out like an old warrior in plate mail with a big hammer would do and not a spellcaster...

In the room, there are a few items of interest a shield, a dagger, and a banner.
There are also two doors one to the east that heads into the stairwell (which was blocked on the first floor) and one to the north.
Hydris Bane |
Hydris tries a smile in between coughing and sputtering.

Hydris shrugs at the stuff and suggests we bag it for later and starts prepping for the north door.
Crushna Chandimutthee |
Crushna examines the trogs and their possessions, then searches the room with his sift ability. When he's done, he stands next to the door to the north.
"Shall we continue on?"
GM Bart |
Each troglodyte carried a club and a javelin (which they threw at people), nothing more. The shield, dagger, and banner really are the only notable things in the room otherwise.
While sifting around however you do get the sense that the stairs are unblocked heading up from here, but remain blocked to get down.
If people wanted to wait out the sickened condition on the three of you, Hydris (and probably others) could take 20 on the Appraise check while you wait and look around to get the info in the Appraise spoiler.
Rafiki of Pride Rock |
That seems the sensible course of action.

GM Bart |
So after a couple minutes everyone is feeling better and you figured out what all the items were (feel free to examine the Appraise spoiler for details, though someone still needs to try the knowledge). Everyone stacks up at the northern door.
Upon openning the door you notice that judging from the shelves lining the walls, this darkened room might once have been a storeroom, though its contents have long since succumbed to the passage of time. A crack in the
northern wall has apparently let in some rainwater, which has collected in a large puddle on the floor.
In the room is a single lizard that appears shockingly happy to see the door open. It seems to want to approach you all.

Then Sven bizarrely decides to re-open the door and kamikaze himself at the lizard. After the shutting of the door the lizard had excitedly made himself ready for visitors, hoping for some food, and waited expectantly just outside it's openning.
