"When Baba Yaga is approached without good preparation, sincerity, and due respect, she is dangerous. When too many questions (or the wrong questions) are asked, she is also dangerous. Only by maintaining pure heart and faith, proper respect for her as one's elder, and loving care of her creatures can the encounter be successful." - Dubravka Ugrešić

Yrja's appearance is unchanged - no visible additions to her wardrobe or meager arsenal in sight. Every now and then, a slightly bulging pocket on her cloak twitches and hiccups. "I told you that you shouldn't have eaten all the scrolls at once!" admonishes the young witch. "Now your stomach is upset. Pfft."

She widens her eyes at Kseniya's use of the wand. "Oh, that one is useful! I should cast that spell on myself as well."

Cast Mage Armor.

ROW 3: Night Terrors

I'm going to say that you can bring animals inside. Of course, they may get startled and run somewhere.

Dez joins the group, tense and serious. He wears his usual long grey coat with studded leather underneath and has added a well made bag hanging on his back by a strap over his shoulder; he is also sporting the leather belt with metal studs the group found earlier. His rapier hangs at his side. He withdraws it a bit, quietly speaks a word, and the rapier bursts into flame. He winks, albeit without breaking his seriousness, and adds, "For the ice trolls and that blasted dragon." Otherwise he seems a little less burdened down by stuff than usual; it appears most of his possessions must be in the new bag.

ROW 3: Night Terrors

Argh! Post got eaten!

ROW 3: Night Terrors

Ahem.

The Clock Tower looms before you. In front of you stands a delicate-looking white picket fence made of bones separating you from the clock tower courtyard. Within the yard a single step leads to a landing and a recessed set of large double doors to the north, while to the east and west stand two stone statues depicting two women in identical poses, reaching skyward as if to catch snowflakes. Neatly trimmed evergreen bushes surround the statues.

The architecture strikes you as built to accommodate trolls and smaller giantkind; so it goes in much of Whitethrone.

1 square = 10 feet because GM Axo gets tired of small maps

He sniff, "alright, time to get to work."

Orik has the lowest defenses for a person who fights regularly, so will do Barkskin on himself, 60 minutes long.

Anyone want to use the resist cold scrolls now? They last 30 minutes.

ROW 3: Night Terrors

I'm just gonna say now that I don't know if you will complete the Tower in a 'day'. What, you think I read ahead? :D (Ok, I do.) These quasi-dungeons almost never have rules for holing up in a room for the night or for monsters leaving the lair to gang up on you. I'll honor the former (holing up) and won't do the latter (gang-up).

I'm good either way. I think as we get more powerful, we should be obliged to figure out a way to rest, either with a pocket dimension, or something else, but if you want to cut us a break, I'm good with it. As a GM I tend to err towards realism, but I rarely run games with super-long dungeons (I'm running CotCT which only has short ones until like, Book 5??

Yeah, I find some balance is necessary with these APs and I'll let my players rest if it is unrealistic for them to finish it all at once. In any event, I think it is advisable to hold off on the scrolls until we get close to the dragon.

I admit I am a little confused about the tower. Are we allowed to be here? What is the function of the tower? Is it guarded and observed?

ROW 3: Night Terrors

The tower is essentially Logrivich's lair as a reward for providing muscle to the Winter Guard. There are certainly Winter Guards (ice trolls) inside the tower, but you do not see any on the outside. (hubris?) You are not allowed to be here. You only have writs showing you as stilyagi. Even a regular jadwiga probably would not be allowed. A Winter Witch would. Or a registered Winter Guard.

Ah, is the Clock Tower used to tell time? Apparently it isn't that important, since Logrivich trashed part of it. Perhaps they'll let him demolish it and save some labor crews.

Orik:

Also, they appear to be some sort of Irriseni royalty, although you don't have a clue as to who they represent.

Yrja recalls a harsh and encyclopedic lesson from Mahb regarding such statues.

All Knowing Yrja:

Those are caryatid columns. Not a golem per se, but resistant to any magic that is blocked by spell resistance. Weapons can shatter against their magically toughened stone forms, and they are naturally damage resistant, to a degree, to everything. Transmute rock to mud harms them, but who the heck has that spell? Just to make it worse, they are mindless and as such, resistant to mind-affecting magic. In short...Kseniya's offer to grapple them isn't such a bad idea.

Just so y’all know, I can archery down these things very easily - they’re my favored enemy, I bypass their DR, and I can shoot from range - but not as easily if they’re grappled, right? So if Orik knows the above, I can start off the fight from far away and let them come to us.

Yrja's face becomes paler as the recollection floods in. "Uh... these will be pretty tough to fight. Their magically toughened stone will shatter most weapons, they resist every kind of damage and magic won't work very well on them either, especially spells that affect the mind."

She thinks for a moment. "I can try to web them down, make it easier to hit them from afar."

Are they also resistant to sonic damage?

LG | M Half-Orc Ranger 1/ Cleric 4 /Hinterlander 2 | HP 56/56 | AC 21-14-18| F+12, R+10, W+13| Per +13, Sense M +10, Init +3 | Spells Up:

Their DR is to all weapon attacks (that’s DR X/-). If they had hardness (which some animated objects do) then said hardness would be resistance against all sources. More importantly I think is their magic immunity (iirc) which makes them immune to all but a few spells, excepting those with no SR. We just fought these in another AP, and acid splash was a pro spell for that reason.

ROW 3: Night Terrors

Ah, good catch, Orik. Btw how does Favored Enemy bypass DR? Or do you have adamantine arrows?

Dez obviously doesn't want to risk his rapiers and his bow won't get through hardness so there's not much he can do.

"It seems like you all have this one covered. I'm open to suggestions, but I don't want my rapier to break and my arrows won't do anything, so I'm just going to stay here by Yrja to help draw any attacks that come this way. Let me know if there's some way I can be helpful."

Orik's arrow strikes the younger column, though, and the stone creature opens its mouth in a facsimile of pain.

ROW 3: Night Terrors

Orik's arrows strike the "princess" statue, and at the third shaft's piercing of the stone hide, the statue falls into the web, cracking at the legs and ceasing all motion.
