Ozak goes after Sarona, Ironface, and Veronica.

Ozak tears into the room behind Sarona, axe drawn. He sees the robot.

"It's an Iron Man! They are sent by Gorum to test our bravery!"

Ozak rushes in with his axe.

Unless anyone stops him, Ozak attacks:

Attack:

Orc Double Axe, two-handed: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 171d8 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Know: Eng Result (DC 13):
The creature looks like a Clockwork Servant in form, though is missing gears and its wind-up key. The machine instead shows some exposed wires and in places sparks.

Key Points: Construct Traits (Modified), Able to self-repair, Vulnerable to Electricity.

Ozak delivers a glancing blow, drawing the repair drone's attention to himself. The machine's optic stares at him for a second before the creature states...

Androffan:
Creature type: Unknown. Behaviour: Hostile. Initiate Self-Defense Protocols.

The creature shoots a net from the small cannon looking protrusion on its shoulder at Ozak.

Ranged Net vs Ozak Touch AC: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 6 - 4 = 4=Miss.

Ozak you get an AOO against the creature. (Ranged weapon in melee)

"Ha! Nice Try!"

Ozak swings again.

Orc Double Axe, two-handed: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 181d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Actually, on my first roll I forgot I have the trait (robot slayer) that gives +1 to hit on attacks vs robots and +1 to AC against them. It doesn't actually make any difference for these rolls though.

move to have line of sight, 2nd move action to study target

Studied Target:
Studied Target (Ex): A slayer can study an opponent he can see as a move action. The slayer then gains a +1 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks attempted against that opponent, and a +1 bonus on weapon attack rolls and weapon damage rolls against it. The DCs of slayer class abilities against that opponent increase by 1. A slayer can maintain these bonuses against only one opponent at a time; these bonuses remain in effect until either the opponent is dead or the slayer studies a new target.

"Aquiring target. Initiating hostile bio-scan and tactical diagnosis."

"It seems to have been re-programmed! Watch yourselves. It can heal itself. If anyone has the ability to use electrical attacks, now might be the time."

Female Half-elf Gunslinger/Unarmed Fighter 1

"Don't worry, Ironface! You're doing good! You just gotta believe in yourself!" Veronica calls out in an almost seemingly condescending tone with a big grin on her face as she rushes up to the scene and ends standing beside Sarona's left side. Quickly raising her pistol towards the machine, he fires a round.

Crit Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3

"Tesla's right.. We don't happen to have any way of e-electrocuting this thing, do we?"

Move action 30', standard action to fire her pistol

Oh my God, maybe Veronica will just crit her way through this! She seems to have won the favour of the Random Number Gods! xD Dunno if the crit confirmed though - rolled the damage anyway in case it did :P

Actually that rule dates from D&D 3.5, and was removed from Pathfinder. Only amorphous creatures such as oozes and elementals are immune to crits.

The Initiative order is skewed, will just go on with the posting order. So back to Ozak...

"Iron men are tough as iron! But this one doesn't seem too scary." Ozak eyes the robot warily before swinging again.

Move action to study target, then swing two-handed again.

Orc Double Axe, two-handed (+1 trait and +1 studied target): 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 1 + 1 = 201d8 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

Ozak will then 5' step to one side to allow others to melee if they want. AC is 20 and Touch AC is 14 against the robot.

GM Lost 33: Did my AoO hit? I'm guessing it probably did unless the robot was flat-footed for my first attack.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The repair drone is damaged by Sarona's fire, Veronica's pistol (crit did not confirm), and Ozak's second non-AOO attack. In response it attempts again to entangle Ozak.

Ranged Net: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 6 - 4 = 15

Constructs are critable.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Thinking about it through out the day, even though the Repair Drone was attacking the wall it wasn't really in a combat mode, so should have been flatfooted at the start. That makes both of Ozak's first strikes hits, and the Repair Drone is now scrap.

Sarona cringes as the metal construct is swiftly reduced to scrap. I thought I had inspected it most thoroughly already...

She shakes her head and lowers her hand. "Val? Val, are you alright? Where are you?"

Val Baine, a young Kellid of small stature with blond hair, blue eyes, in dressed in no-nonsense matter fitting of tavern operator/metalworker, emerges from her hiding spot under a table in the storeroom. She's a little dusty for ordeal but otherwise unharmed. She greets Sarona with a thankful hug, grateful for the timely intervention.

The young Kellid speaks in a energetic manner, "Welcome home, Sister! I was cleaning the study when that thing just started moving on its own. Fortunately it ignored me, it seemed more interested in escaping. Anyways, I take it you've talked to the Council and are going to try to find father?

Well, the tavern is available for ya'll's use. There are some bedrolls inside already, and I'm more than happy to provide meals. Any drinks will still require payment though."

Unless the group wants to RP it, I'm assuming basic introductions are made.

Sarona returns Val's hug with an audible sigh of relief. "Oh, praise be to Brigh... yes, we have spoken with the Council, and we have agreed to find Khonnir and bring him home."

Her eyebrow quirks in confusion. "Val, how did the clockwork servant reanimate? I inspected it myself this morning and it seemed to be entirely inanimate..."

Did I miss something?

Female Half-elf Gunslinger/Unarmed Fighter 1

Veronica smiles and reloads her pistol before holstering it and walking over to Sarona and Val, leaning against the wall as they speak before adding in, "Hey, Val! Haven't seen you since you closed up shop - thank you for offering us food and shelter there!" The half-elf pauses before turning to look at the fallen mecha-servant before asking, "I'm w-wondering the same thing as Sarona here: did anything happen before that thing sprang to life? Anything at all?"

Ah now I understand. From the description, I thought my first swing hit but my second missed, which would have meant (since I rolled the same for both swings) that its AC had changed. But by "glancing blow" you originally meant a miss, yes?

"Hah! Another iron man defeated. This one was a bit of a disappointment, actually."

Ozak listens to the discussion of what caused the robot to come to life.

"Most likely Gorum gave it life to provide us with a test." Ozak looks at the wreckage thoughtfully. "If it was 'dead' before, and Gorum brought it to life, perhaps he will do so again!"

Ozak turns and faces the dead robot, axe ready. After a few moments, when the robot fails to move... "On the other hand, maybe not."

He looks around at the others.

"Are we going into the water today? If so, should we pack along some food to take with us?"

Ozak is ready to get going unless there are things you guys want to take care of.

Shaken, Val responds to the questions, I'm fine, like I said the thing ignored me. It just started moving on its own accord, I hadn't touched it during my cleaning. Thanks for your concern, and yes it is nice to see you again as well Veronica. It's good to know Sarona will attempt this foolishness with a fellow townswoman.

Val and Sarona show the group the tavern. After the group is settled Val busies herself behind the bar where she quietly asks to herself, "That looked like an acid splash on the wall, which one of them caused that? After a moment, she returns her attention to the group, "Sarona, Veronica will you be staying here or in your own homes?

To clarify, Val isn't aware she said that comment about the acid splash out loud.
Also, don't forgot about your starting rumors.

Sarona:
The biggest takeaway here is that you knew the robot's power supply was depleted, leaving the standing question for Sarona as: How did the power supply recharge itself?

Female Android Slayer 1/Arcanist 1: HP (13/13): AC (18/touch=15/flat=13): Saves (Fort=4, Ref=6, Will=4): Initiative +4: Perception +8

Since we are out of combat, would a closer look at the tampered circuits reveal anything about what the re-wiring's indented purpose was? Or who might have been able to perform the modification?

"By your pardon, could I have a closer look at our decommissioned mechanical friend here? Perhaps we can catch a glimpse of what wired were crossed and why."

take 10 on knowledge engineering. skill check = 17.

Sarona's inspection of the repair drone shows it workings are a combination of mechanical and electronic. The drone is dusty, and some pieces within have rusted, while wires here and there have lost their shielding. The drone is powered through a battery unit, which Sarona previously knew to be inert. Otherwise, the drone does not appear to have been tampered with and its malfunctioning could be attributed to its state of disrepair.

Channels: 5/5|A. Touch: 6/6|F. Bolt: 5/6|Female Android Iron Priestess of Brigh 1|HP: 11/11|AC: 17/14/13|Saves: +2 Fort, +5 Ref, +5 Will (+4 vs. Paralysis, Poison, Stun)|Init: +7|Perc: +9

Sarona pats Val on the head. "I think I will be staying here, if you will allow it."

She's then hit with a flash of thought. "Val, the last I checked of the clockwork drone, its power supply was depleted. In order to move around, the drone would need to have its power supply replenished... how did that happen, I wonder?"

Female Half-elf Gunslinger/Unarmed Fighter 1

Veronica throws her hands into the air as she grins with a laugh, calling out, "Of course I'll be staying here too! It'll be just like a slumber party!" While she maintains a chipper and happy demeanor, it can easily be seen as false-bravado as she is worried for the safety of Khonnir and the others, as well as their own safety.

As the two speak, she remembers her mother's warning before leaving the house. With Sarona's inquiry, the half-elf adds, "...Do you think someone tampered with it?"

"You know about these things?"

Ozak looks at the wreckage.

"I saw a similar creature once, and destroyed it. I was wandering, in despair and uncertain of my future. And then I saw it. I took it as a sign from Gorum, and found my way here. Who else would animate pieces of metal but Our Lord In Iron? So it may have been Gorum's will that this metal creature came alive again."

Ozak shrugs.

"Or maybe not. Who knows? It's dealt with now, that's the main thing."

Ozak doesn't especially care how it was recharged, and doesn't find such a discussion very interesting. He's glad it happened though because then he got to smash the thing up. :)
