Lmao.. I felt the same reading this for the first time. I really wish I had been able to play this before GMing it, but needs must. At least its the right time of year for this, right?! This whole adventure has a really dark undertone to it.. unfortunately, there is so much back story further on that you guys never get to figure out! It really sends creepers down the spine reading the GM portions.
IHIYC: Now that sounds like some really good reading!!! Did it take a personalized horror tone or more of a detached omnipresent narration??
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
I know what you mean. I'm DMing "The Twisted Circle" right now, and it's pretty weird. At least the players have the potential there to learn about most of the weirdness - it seems like my party got shortchanged for some reason when I played it, since I don't recall the DM bringing any of the real weirdness up.
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
Okay, let's review a few facts:
#1: This is a Gebban cattle ranch.
#2: All cattle need workers to guard, control, and otherwise tend to them.
#3: Geb is right next to the Mana Wastes, which is the Gunslinger capital of Golarion.
Conclusion: Somewhere around here, there are...undead cowboys.

The latter.

Just got home from the vet. Had to say goodbye to a dear companion kitty today. I'm a wreck and may or may not post later. Tomorrow morning I leave on a 4 day retreat, so my posting may be spotty if at all during those four days. Please bot me as necessary... sorry and thanks.
GM DevilDoc |
Sorry to hold things up. I was robbed Monday night at work and have been dealing with everything. I am fine and whole.. just a tad bit messed up.
Vex Iskvavlindak |
Oh Wow! Glad you are ok, but I completely understand as that is terrible! Just take it easy. No worries or rushing needed here. Just be with your family.
K'Kei Hikaru |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
omg.. that's horrible... I have been there, and that feeling of being violated and all the fallout are devastating... take your time... no rush, take care of you and yours.
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
I was once in an in-person 'home' game that, while it suffered from certain other problems as well, finally came to an abrupt and permanent end when one of the players had his car stolen - and it had been where all the campaign materials were kept.
GM DevilDoc |
Thank yall!
Dr. Zephyrus: that really blows man.. was there ever any attempt to recreate what was lost?
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
Not as far as I know. That particular group just stopped meeting after that (since it was only together for that game).
Jaysin Deckert |
Sorry I've been silent, I had to go out of town and I didn't have access to the computer very much. Hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow. Spread the word if I don't get a chance to reach my other games.
Vex Iskvavlindak |
I hope everything is better now, and I am sorry to hear you had to go unexpectedly to the hospital in the first place.
GM DevilDoc |

Sorry guys, the dice were not with us this time!
Vex Iskvavlindak |
Sorry folks. I will be unable to post for the next 24 or so. I am letting all my games know.
GM DevilDoc |
Hikaru: You were not up again.. I left you bold because I still needed information from a number of you.
This thing is immune to Crit, Flank, Precision/Sneak, and has DR on top of everything else.. and its only going to get more complicated when it starts using a few of its special abilities.
WHAT I NEED FROM A DAMAGE ROLL:
When rolling damage, please let me know what the numbers are for.
Ex: Longbow +1: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 26
dmg: 1d8 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 15
Base, PBS, Haste, Flagbearer
Base, PBS, Haste, Flagbearer
You can spoiler this as Vex did.. (Thank you!!) or you can do it as I have shown above.. as long as I know what modifiers have been added to any given roll, please!
WHAT I NEED:
JAYSIN: I need to know what damage modifiers you added for arrows 1 and three from your last turn.
HIKARU: I need to know what damage modifiers you added for last turn. The rolls you just made will be disregarded.
CADUCEUS: I need to know what damage modifiers you added for last turn.
VEX: Thank you. I will resolve your turn once some of this other stuff gets sorted out.
Caduceus Via |
Apologies, I was operation under the assumption that Smite Evil bypassed all DR and you would not need a break down.
Attack (+10/+5)
Str +2 to hit & +2 to damage
Smite Evil +6 to hit, +4 to damage
Flagbearer: +2 Morale hit/dam/charm saves
Inspire Courage: +3 hit/dam, +3 Morale to fear
Haste: +1 hit, ac, reflex, and a bonus attack with full attack action
GM DevilDoc |
Smite Evil bypasses DR, but I needed to make sure that there wasn't anything else in there that was mitigated by some of the other "fun" stuff here.
Thank you, Caduceus and Hikaru!
Jaysin Deckert |
Apologies, the holiday really has me exceptionally bogged down. GMPC me if you can, if you have to drop me I understand. I can't remember the last time I've been so unavailable.
Caduceus Via |
So, can Jaysin be botted? I would hate for him to miss out after coming all this way.
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
The asterisk indicates a temporary modifier, that's all.
A couple things seem wrong here, though:
- I'm being grappled even though I'm 10 feet away. Not that their reach couldn't easily be that far, but are we sure everybody's placed where they ought to be?
- Likewise, Caduceus says he's attacking blue...but he's nowhere near blue. He looks like he's fighting red.
Caduceus Via |
That was my bad. Was posting from my device last and did not double-check the map. Meant to make a 5' adjustment. I see that I cannot do that as RED moved up. SO I guess my attacks would have to be on RED.
GM DevilDoc |
Dr. V: Thanks for the explanation! As for the reach, this thing has a 15 ft reach and the bite automatically allows for a grapple attempt.
Caduceus: Thank you!
As for Jaysin: He has only posted 6 times in gameplay since the briefing, and only three of those posts involved interacting with the scene. (for comparison: of the few post records I checked, most of you have posted more than 6 times in less than two weeks, and running about half OOC and half story) I felt that the best thing would be to drop him from the game, and I have sent in an adjustment request to the gameday moderators to remove him from my report. This way, he can participate in another run of this game if he so desires. I feel GMPC'ing and reporting him as completed would penalize him for every day life getting in the way of a game. This way, he still has an opportunity to experience the story.
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
Do you think/know whether I could toss a Bomb while grappled?
Jaysin Deckert |
Yeah, I'm sorry... its fair to simply drop me at this point. I caught the flu (or something) on Saturday and I just haven't caught up. No worries.
GM DevilDoc |
Sorry about this, Dr. V. I saw this earlier and forgot to comment for you.
Yes. The general consensus is that:
1) the Alchemist rules do not stipulate whether mixing and throwing bombs is one handed or two handed.
2) Thrown splash weapons section is likewise silent on the issue
3)Bombs DO qualify for two weapon fighting
With the absence of a ruling in the first two parts, but a definitive ruling for the third, I believe that the general consensus is that you MAY throw bombs while grappled, but of course are subject to the negative modifiers and any splash damage.
GM DevilDoc |
My apologies.. I have been violently ill the last few days. I am thankfully on the upswing, but this has been no joke!
K'Kei Hikaru |
Hope you feel better soon... take your time.
K'Kei Hikaru |
sorry if I'm slow posting the last few days and the next few as well... We are suffering from high winds and surrounded by fires in all directions. Constant power outages from the winds and service outages from both power problems and the fires are playing hell with my connection. I will post as I can, but please bot me if necessary.. thanks.
GM DevilDoc |
I will have the chronicles up ASAP. I just went to post them, and realized I forgot to cross off the negative boon on here.
Hikaru: Stay safe man, and best wishes for you and yours. I was a firefighter for 15 years in south Texas, and I can tell you that wild fires are my nemesis. I have fought more than I could count over the years, but they scare the ever loving shit out of me. Good luck, and if you have to get out, make sure to give yourself as much time as you can.
Vex Iskvavlindak |
I have been so worried for all those effected by the recent wildfires. I am sorry to hear you are one Hikaru, and best wishes for you and yours.
Caduceus Via |
I was down there in '97 when the fires were jumping across I-5, but this is so much worse. Please stay safe.
K'Kei Hikaru |
thanks, all... doing our best...
K'Kei Hikaru |
thanks all for a fun game, and devildoc for running it... one favor.. please format my chronicle as either a pdf or a jpg... my computer cannot seem to deal properly with a png format, thanks.
GM DevilDoc |
All of my chronicle sheets are uploaded as PDF files. I really abhor Paint and the nuisances that come from converting files..
GM DevilDoc |
Thank you all for joining me on this journey, and thank you for your patience. I have enjoyed having yall at my table.
For those wondering: The recall token you activated doesn't pick you up right away. It actually activates 1d4 rounds later, and only transports anyone within 40' of the token, leaving anyone outside of that area stuck behind in Geb. During a face to face game, this would have been easy and amusing (for me at least!!). In a PbP, this would have been a multiple day posting circle of boredom for everyone!!
Caduceus Via |
Hey DevilDoc, you listed my XP total as 46 going to 47 instead of 26 going to 27. Any chance you can fix it? Otherwise everything looks good. Thanks again to all of you for a fun game.
GM DevilDoc |
Ok.. Looks like I am a complete fool here. Turns out I never asked for beginning XP, and accidently filled in prestige numbers instead. All the chronicles need to be adjusted and have been pulled from the folder. I will post the corrected ones ASAP. Thanks for catching that, Caduceus!
In the interests of expediency at this point, I am going to leave prior/post XP blank for you to fill in.
GM DevilDoc |
EDIT: Problem solved. Fixed Chronicle sheets are in the link above.
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
Craft (Alchemy), Folio reroll: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (11) + 26 = 37
Bit of an improvement there; please rectify my earnings accordingly :)
I am frankly disappointed, despite my well-reasoned earlier prediction, at the absence of undead cowboys!
GM DevilDoc |
LOL @ undead cowboys. I wish I could have thrown something like that in there for you! I'm sure I could come up with some stats for a skeletal cavalier or some such!
Chronicle edited and ready to go, Dr. Zeph
