PFS First Steps Part I

Sczarni

I will be running PFS First Steps (all three modules) as PbP for level 1 Pathfinder Society Characters. Since build rules are covered by the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play, I am not reposting the criteria.

If you have Boons, please link to them. I will take your word on folios and or tee shirts. If you are pulling feats, traits, spells, etc. from books outside those listed under the Core Assumptions, please cite where I can locate said ability. It just makes my life easier. I am working on a PDF collection of all books to make searching easier, but at the moment the vast majority of my books are physical.

I prefer to run all three modules in succession. Drop-outs can be replaced, but it costs the group time/progress. If you would like to run all three, apply below. Much like the table top version, this will largely be first come first serve. At 15 completed applications, recruitment will close.

RP is encouraged on the recruitment page, it helps me see who will work together well.

I hope to begin Monday, January 28, 2012.

A complete application has both as:

  • Full stat-block, including link to character sheet, and;
  • a full background.

  • Grand Lodge

    Joining up.
    #43870-4

You can find my sheet here (name is a link to the sheet):

    Bom Skjold
Male Neutral Good Human (Ulfen) Ranger, Level 1, Init +2, HP 12/12, Speed 20
    AC 18, Touch 12, Flat-footed 16, Fort +3, Ref +4, Will +3, Base Attack Bonus 1
    Longsword +4 (1d8+3, 19/20 x2)
    Shield (light) +4 (1d3+1, x2)
    Javelin (3) +4 (1d6+3, 19/20 x2)
Scale Mail, Light Steel Shield (+5 Armor, +1 Shield, +2 Dex)
    Abilities Str 16, Dex 15, Con 13, Int 10, Wis 14, Cha 10
    Condition None

    ----

I hope/assume you are going to have a minimum posting requirement of 1/day or it will take forever to get through these three modules.

As an FYI, this is a Weapon & Shield Ranger as opposed to an Archery or TWF. So he'll be a front line fighter as opposed to a ranged one.

Just to be clear, you will be issuing Chronicle Sheets, correct?

    Sczarni

Minimum 1/day minimum for weekdays required, 1/weekend preferred.

    Grand Lodge

Posting an application here that needs some work. I'll tweak it over the next day or so.

Would linking feats, etc. in the character sheet to the PRD help?

  • What do you mean by "background"? Short bio? Three pages of angsty backstory? :)

    Grand Lodge

Do you need a physical scanned sheet or is the full data/stat block etc in the character profile sufficient?

I've run PFS via PbP before and it works fine without scanned sheets for new characters. Those with Chronicles obviously would need a link for the scans for those.

Also, I'm putting in for all 3 sessions.

    Silver Crusade

Interested in all three parts. Here's the link to my character Nexeus

    Background:
The Cleric Nexeus was raised in the deserts of Casmaron and worships Sarenrea. Although claiming Keleshite as his ethnicity, his light gray eyes betray the fact that he is not a true Keleshite. Feeling as an outcast among pure Keleshites who ridiculed him for his mixed ethnic background, Nexeus left his homeland in search of adventure. Joining the Pathfinder Society and the Grand Lodge gave Nexues an excuse to wander the land and develop true kinship among other Pathfinder Society members.
Although not pure blooded Keleshite, Nexeus’ upbringing has instilled an arrogance and superiority that he tries to suppress in his daily activities. Although wanderlust has become his driving motivation, part of him seeks riches in order to return to Casmaron and earn the respect and admiration of Keleshites not through birth, but through wealth and fame.

    Sczarni

I am very interested. Will have character up shortly.

    Scarab Sages

Azizi Anum Would like to apply.

Cryptbreaker is from Inner Sea Magic
Beastmorph is from Ultimate Combat (changes don't occur until 3rd level)

    description:
Keen black eyes look out from under the heavy eye-brows and intricately braided mane of long hair. The strong features and almost greenish hue to his skin give this youth the look of a half-orc, but there is a delicacy to his features that belie such ancestry. His lithe, wirey frame seems more elven than orcish, but silver-capped lower incisors that can be seen behind his easy and self-assured grin surely indicate his orcish heritage. The mixture lends to an exotic and unexpected attractiveness in which the individual features would normally be ugly, but the blend creates an intriguing harmony. As his head moves, you see an odd marking on the right side of his neck, flowing up behind his hair. A birthmark or a tattoo? The image is familiar, but you can't quite place it before the intricate braids shift to cover it up again.
The detailed dark leather clothing he wears and the intricate scabbard of his black hilted rapier, seem more ornamental in nature than functional. However, the self-assured grin on his face coupled with the intimate grace of his movements make you wonder if he is more foppish dandy or deadly adventurer.

    Background:
The result of the almost unfathomable rape of a orcish wench by an elven mercenary, Stullun was a street child who quickly learned to use charm and guile to keep his belly full. As his odd, exotic beauty manifested he was taken by a pimp, enslaved, and rented out in the streets of a variety of cities in Chelexia - his pimp travelling to avoid taxes and his wares growing stale. Despite beatings, forced drugs, and other depredations inflicted upon him, Stullun had a strong kernal of faith that kept him through it all. He knew that this wretched life would not be his destiny and he would overcome his enslavement.

He did not realize the source of this inner-strength until a priestess of Calistria recognized his birthmark as a sign from her deity and bought his freedom for training into the priesthood. As much as Ardurial attempted to temper Stullun's roguish ways, however, his youthful exuberance at his new found freedom and station did not lend itself the focus necessary for priesthood. Instead, she saw that he had another path... the path of the Savored Sting to bring vengeance against the slavery and the slave-culture of Chalexia though his skills at lust and trickery. This is the path Stullun now walks, and knows that his Great Mistress will provide what he needs to gain the strength to compliment his new freedom and achieve his goals. He has used tattoos to compliment his birthmark and make it even more clearly the symbol of Calistra, and he always carries three daggers about his person out of revrence to the Savored Sting.

Stullun can be counted on to use is looks, persuasiveness, and belief in his own luck and fate prior to drawing his blades. With the physical abuse he endured throughout his youth, he understands violence however. If blades are bared, he will use every bit of guile he possess to make certain that as little of his blood will be spilled as possible, and that his enemy knows pain.

Bazresh, Teifling Inquisitor of Saranae applying to join up. Let me know if you want more background.

    Dotting.

    Silver Crusade

I'd like to apply with Targ Starksson (assuming the GM will be e-mailing scanned .pdfs of the Chronicle sheets). His basic information and background are linked to his profile, and I'll be working to add complete character sheet information over the next few hours.

I'm an experienced PFS GM and player, but Targ is a completely new character.

    Sczarni

Background = who you are, and why you joined the Pathfinders. Just something to show you put more thought into your character than working up some crunch. Characters are fun, statblocks not so much.

I will post scanned PDFs of Chronicle sheets to Google Docs, and post spoilers with links for your characters. Once you have told me you have downloaded the PDFs, I will remove the documents from my google drive.

Saves you from having to post personal information on the inter-webs.

This will be my first PbP, but I've played in some PFS and GMed normal Pathfinder APs.

Vanyel, tower elf (from ARG; arcane focus and urbanite alternate racial traits) universalist wizard. Largely done except for equipment.

    Have some background:
The elf sets his glass down on the mantelpiece as he begins to pace back and forth, warming to his topic; the raven on his shoulder must needs hop from foot to foot to keep its balance. ”Because I am bored here, that’s why! I was born in Absalom, and in over a century of life I have not set foot outside of this city. Mother, father; you, too, have spent all your lives here among the ephemerals.” He holds up a placating hand. ”Forgive me; I do not mean to imply that you have chosen incorrectly. But that is your choice, and I would choose something different for myself. It is true that, in time, all the world comes to Kortos. I simply wish to see it when it is not dressed for travel.” He looks down expectantly at the pair seated in front of the fire, the brocade of their robes gleaming in its light.

The questions come, but he has answers ready. ”Of course I won’t go alone! I have already spoken with Venture-Captain Valsin, and I have an invitation to join the Pathfinder Society. The ephemerals have built something truly enduring, and I mean to take my place in it. I shall set foot in places that have not seen the light of day for millennia, learn secrets untold, and make a mark on the world that will last beyond my lifetime.” He smiles. ”But I shall be able to return home often, and when I am done I will return to stay.” A note of pleading enters his voice as he continues. ”Please. Give me a hand of years away, to purge this wanderlust and strengthen my bond to Absalom, always and ever the finest of cities.” His voice hardens and he stands up a little straighter, firelight reflecting from his shaven scalp. ”Make no mistake. I will go with or without your blessing, but do me the courtesy of treating me as an adult.”

Suddenly, without any warning, he finds himself at the entrance to the Grand Lodge. His forehead and cheek still tingle with the phantom memory of kisses from his father and mother, his shoulder still remembers his father’s clasp, and his mother’s whisper still echoes in his ears: A hand? Your father came back after only three years, but I stayed away for eight. He smiles, shaking his head slightly, and walks into his new life.

Looks like we are nearing the 15 mark. I will be working on a client's project until early evening tomorrow, so I will close recruitment early evening, and pick by this time Sunday evening. Monday we will start!

Confidential transcript of the Kensington Marlowe post-training exit interview:

"It is with great pride that, so soon after the completion of my training, that I am chosen to undertake such an important mission." Thanks to those who pulled all those strings on my behalf. "Seeking out valuable relics and powerful artifacts and returning them to the Lodge is a sacred duty that should not be taken lightly." Unless someone with a fatter purse happens by...but that's only common sense!

"As I'm sure you are well aware, my younger brother has recently completed his training as well, and is currently out on his first mission. I was a bit envious of him being chosen first, but of course I realize that different missions call for Pathfinders with different skills." Plus I doubt that there's much gold to be had escorting goblins across the frozen wastes...serves the little bugger right!

"Needless to say having two Pathfinders come from the same family is quite unusual; and becoming Pathfinders has been a childhood dream come true for my brother and I." Ever since we began stealing valuable objects from our neighbors and selling them to unscrupulous dealers! "Although my brother and I have had our disagreements from time to time, as all brothers do, I'm certain he would agree with me when I tell you that we will not let you down" Well...not all the time anyway!

    Background:
As the son of servants of Lord Hideaki Akaiwa, a powerful noble in Kasai; Kazuo grew up with greater resources than most Tengu in Minkai. Instead of the thuggery and thievery that stereotypes his race, his lord discovered Kazuo had a great capacity for learning and granted him access to the same lessons and tutors afforded to the other children of the estate. However no matter how learned, or “civilized” he became, real or imagined, he could feel the veiled distain from his peers among the humans and other favored races. As a result, he turned inward, escaping into his studies taking great fascination with artifacts, foreign lands, and the lure of the unknown.

Kazuo’s life changed forever when the estate received a jeweled pendant as part of the tribute from his vassals. Lord Hideaki gifted the pendant to his daughter and the next morning was horrified to discover she was paralyzed, seemingly being consumed by the jewel growing out of the pendant. Lord Hideaki’s vassals attempted all manners of cures, from healing magics to elemental assaults on the pendant itself but the affliction proved impervious to them all. Hoping to repay his lord’s generosity Kazuo sequestered himself in his tutor’s library, desperate to find some a remedy. He emerged days later and rushed out into the city only to bring back a local songstress. The attending clerics and wizards scoffed “This is no time for japes!” but when Kazuo bade her to play a particularly moving song the crystalline mass visibly roiled. Seeing the effect the sound was having, Lord Hideaki quickly summoned a powerful bard from the local Pathfinder Lodge. The bard identified the jewel as a fragment of a carnivorous crystal and after a series of discordant melodies; the agitated ooze released its grasp and receded back into the pendant which the wizards banished promptly banished into another realm.

Kazuo’s brief encounter with the bard enamored him with the Pathfinders and when Lord Hideaki offered him a reward, Kazuo wanted nothing more than to be sponsored to join their ranks at the Lantern Lodge. With his innate swordsmanship, natural agility and thirst for knowledge, it is no mystery why he was chosen to become a Lore Warden. Now, Kazuo emerges from his training eager to learn about his new home, and his new life.

    Background

    Spoiler:

M'grul is a creature of the 'World Wound' - though he doesn't yet know it, he is the descendent of demons. He has no memories of early childhood but his earliest memories are part of a circus freak show... kept caged and underfed.

That changed as he moved into adulthood and he developed into a tall, muscular 'man', he also developed an intimidating presence. So much so that his captors sought to kill him. It was also when his magic manifested - with a flash he took down his attackers and fled into what was the Varisian wilderness.

Wracked by dark dreams and visions, he was guided to make contact with others. It took many tries before he was accepted into any group but a group of perverse Shoanti eventually saw some advantage and took him in, marking him with their magical tattoos - which warped under his demonic skin, and bonded him with an exceedingly ugly toad. His time was brief in their troop before he again fled, suspicious of their purpose for him.

He wandered for some time, feared and sometimes hunted but eventually arriving in Absolom.

He ended up at the Pathfinder Grand Lodge and fortunately was successful in his application to join the Society as an initiate. His time as an initiate has served him well - he has learned literacy, something of spellcraft and polished the fledgling combat skills he learned among the Shoanti. He has also learned more about the tattoo's he bears and how to make them work for him.

He has no name that he treasured from his childhood, being called 'monster' or 'demon', or 'devil'. He has adopted the name 'M'grul' - a guttural corruption of the Abyssal word for 'Survivor'.

    Appearance

    Spoiler:
M'grul stands well over 6 feet, but is oddly muscled, bulging where one expects sinew and in other places, sinewy where one would expect muscle. His features are hideous, with his nose being open, and his mouth extended on oneside and full of pointed jagged teeth - his voice is deep and beastial. His skin is scaled and mottled with tones of black and ash grey. He typically bears a longspear and morning star into battle.

Understanding his appearance may terrify, he covers himself with an ornate robe when attempting to relate to people. He is still somewhat wild and impulsive towards violence, a throw back to his blood as much as his childhood

    Background

    Spoiler:
Growing up in Diobel Malik knew little of his origins. Standing out from the other children, who feared what they did not understand, Malik learned quickly how to avoid conflicts and live a somewhat solitary life. If it hadn't been for the church of Abadar Malik likely would have fallen in the streets. At a young age he had a knack for the art of healing and as his skills became more apparent so to did he draw more attention, especially from the church.

Before he was 18 Malik was indoctrinated with the church and pledged his faith to Abadar. After several years of service to the church and Abadar Malik received his divine mandate becoming one of the clerics of Abadar. Having risen quickly through the ranks of the church but still perceived as an oddity in the smaller town of Diobel, Malik set out for Absalom the one place most excepting of his kind and the largest center for his faith.

Upon coming to Absalom Malik quickly learned of the Pathfinders. Deciding to bring his mandate was meant to extend the reach of Abadar to places where civilization had been forgotten and eliminate agents of chaos. Further with the Pathfinders making up such a well developed organization and allowing Malik to gain wealth in the name of Abadar while meeting his mandates it seemed more than a perfect fit.

It is not possible to play with the same character in two games at the same time, right?

How about with two different characters, but from the same player?

I might be interested, but need to know if this would be legal :D

The same character cannot play in two different games at the same time. There is no restriction on the number of games a person can enter for PbP.

You can not play the same character at two tables. Ex. You cannot play Bob the Barbarian Character Number 12345-01 in both First Steps and Fallen Fortress simultaneously.

You can play two different characters at two different tables. Ex.You can play Bob the Barbarian (12345-01) in First Steps, and his brother Steve the Samurai (12345-02) in Fallen Fortress at the same time.

I'm not Stullun, but I can help. It's not a link--check out the "How to format your text" button under the posting window and look for how to post spoilers. The short answer is that by posting

[ spoiler=Stat Block ]blah blah blah[ / spoiler ] without the spaces, you end up with this:

    Stat Block:
    blah blah blah

ETA: The rest of the actual formatting comes out of Hero Labs, I think.

It is with a certain amount of sadness (all the applications were great, and I always feel bad when I cant pick everyone) that I announce the party of six:

    Bom Skjold
    M'grul
    Bazresh Izzakesh
    Stullun Freeblade
    Malik Van'Hilth
    Kensington Marlowe

    Silver Crusade

Congratulations to the chosen! Good luck, and have fun!

DaWay has opened a PFS I, II, and III campaign as well. He is a good guy, and I recommend you check it out! I think all your applications are excellent, and you should have no problem getting in!

Just follow the link Akinra posted. I am willing to run up to two groups at the moment. That means 12 spots are open. I am looking to start things on friday.

    Thanks DaWay!

Any news if you're planning to run those again?

    Sczarni

I don't know if I will, I plan on running a few Season one and two modules (picked up a box of modules at the local college campus wide garage sale!) If I do, I will post a new recruitment thread.

Cool, I'll just wait till then, btw is it required to start on those? Sorry for the questions.
