Fombur ponders, stroking his long beard

"Well, the Black Dale is a valley higher up the mountainside northwest of here. There is a clan of Dalesmen humans, known as Clan Targus that have lived in the area since even before the glory of Tharkad-Kûl came to an end. They have a village in the Dale called Dun Targus.

The Dalesmen were fast friends of our ancestors, and several entrances to the Golden Halls were excavated at the head of their valley. The Waterfall Gate is the most famous, made behind the waterfall at the head of the Black Dale. Once, when the Golden Halls were still ours, our ancestors could divert the falls at will to allow passage. Now, you have to swim through.

The orcs have claimed the section of Tharkad-Kûl that lies behind the Waterfall Gate. Dun Targus has been a bulwark against them, but as of late their attacks have increased markedly. I have received a message from The Targus that they need stalwart volunteers to help combat the hordes. I have sent some dwarvish youths there, but there are never enough."

Borondon spends his time hanging out and drinking with Ingra and Navorn, waiting for Mott's caravan to leave again.

Thanks Sunset/Crystal. You are right about where everyone is. The dwarves are visitinfg the nearby settlement of Dwisby, everyone else is in Lumberton. No worries about not being able to post, I am trying to get the new folk set anyway before we decide on what the party will do next.

Female Silver Elf Paladin 3

Shortly after the arrival of the caravan, a rider appears from the East. She's mounted on a riding horse, leading a spirited mare with armor and other baggage on it.

Her hair is ash-blonde, and held in a severe bun, her eyes are the color of slate, and the ears are a dead giveaway.

Upon reaching what passes for the city gates, she shows a silver wand, and is let through. The brocade on her cloak is done in alternate interlaced squares of silver and gold, with small red highlights in the center of each knot. Under the cloak is a well made set of gray traveler's garb, designed for comfort when riding on horseback.

The gate guard makes polite obeisances, and directs her up the hill to the fortress, where she goes in for the first afternoon after her arrival. Before dusk, she rides out again, to the best inn in the town, and takes a room, hauling a lot of awkwardly wrapped bundles up to it. She also spends a decent amount of time making sure her horses are taken care of.

That done, she comes down for dinner, dressed in garments of good cloth, but not formal wear. At her breast is a quatrefoil-knot of silver and gold, surrounding a plate of red enamel.

She pauses a moment to look over the room for a few seconds, and then takes her place at the bench with the best view of the entertainment, and inquires about food, eventually settling on the roasted lamb, boiled turnips with gravy, and a cup of hard cider.

Notes:

Spoiler:
She's using Detect Evil on the crowd before sitting down for supper.

For those that would know, the silver wand is a symbol of a diplomatic courier. (Knowledge: Nobility should cover it)

The quatre-foil knot in gold and silver is the symbol of some elven deity or another. (Knowledge: Religion will identify it as Feadwin Law-weaver, a hero of the Dawn Age).

For those that can detect it, she's got a palpable, strong, aura of Good about her.

Female Teifling Bard 2

While I have some time and in a way greet the newcomer. ^_^

Of the late afternoon/early evening Crystal takes up the small space available for the tavern's main room performers. Spending the time quietly playing a lute. Her quiet singing and strumming only loud enough to drift across the background of the patrons quiet dinner table conversations.

Perform; Take ten:10+6=16

Later into the evening the bard takes her ward up to be in their room; then returns and, after her own light meal, takes up her performing again. Though now with the patrons relaxing and finished their main courses, Crystal's voice is louder, her playing stronger as she fills the space of the common room now with actual entertainment.

Perform; Take ten:10+6=16

It is in the late evening, whence more of the local regulars have retired that Crystal shifts from where she has perched all night and sings especially for a small group of people, who seem to know the tall blond Bard. These people being Borondon, Ingra and Navorn. Who are waiting for Mott's caravan to leave again and for their other Dwarven fellows to return. (^.~)

Perform:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

So, there you have something to introduce yourself too dear Daris to'Evaryth, *Bows*

OK here's Kolo's start

Kolo has come down to Lumberton looking for some goods. His father's trusty(?) pack mule, Baynja, is sent along to carry the goods back to Kolo's family mercantile.

Lumberton is an exciting place for Kolo, especially after the grim grimy streets of Dwisby. Colorful Vagabonds laugh and drink daleshine in front of a small restaurant. Drovers in their boiled leather armor and long oiled whips at their hip strut down the street, looking for excitement now that they were off the road. Kolo drinks it all in like a thirsty sponge.

Just outside the walls of Lumberton proper is the large caravansari. There Kolo gathers the required packages of spices and other specialty goods from the caravan that just came in, giving the caravan master the pouch of gold his father had entrusted to him.

After such a long journey, Kolo feels a bit peckish and thirsty. It was already well past second lunch, and Tea was just around the corner. He stops at a tavern called the Eagle's Aerie and grabs a nice halfpint of homebrew and a trencher of stew.

While eating, he hears a pretty human woman playing her lute. She matches the description of one of the adventurers the town had been abuzz about. Supposedly they took on an entire orc tribe run by a demon ogre and won! Kolo moves closer to the stage to get a better look at the woman. He sees a small human girl sitting close to her, dressed in well-made clothing and busy playing with a stuffed bear while the woman strums her lute.

Daris:

Spoiler:
There are evil folks in the common room, especially one squinty-eyed fellow richly dressed nursing a small ale. His aura throbs with lines of black malice

A tall and thin young woman enters the Eagle's Aerie. Dressed in a long white chasuble and tunic, decorated with red and gold thread depicting images of the sun - she has deep blue eyes and pale skin but her most striking feature is her shoulder length golden rather than blonde hair.

As she opens the door into the darkened tavern, the late afternoon's strong sunlight behind her gives a fleeting impression that an angel has walked into the room.

As she scans the tavern, the locals return to their ale - recognising the formal rainment of a follower of Sarenrae.

Having swept the room once, she shakes her head noticeably, muttering, "Healing Light" under her breath before scanning the bar again.

This time her eyes alight on a very tall, attractive elf-like female - sitting playing the lute in a very self-aware manner. She sighs as she sees a young boy - no make that a hafling - get up from his meal and, staring all the while, move closer to the woman.

Sighing even louder this time, the golden-haired woman moves gracefully to the stage herself. She eyes the hafling, and smiling all the while, addresses him. "You're drooling. I'll be generous and suggest it's the stew."

Ignoring the hafling now, she bows slightly to the lute-player and introduces herself. "May the Light illuminate the Truth. My name is Corvus. I apologise for interrupting your playing, but I was looking for a gentleman named Merzhan." Again, she sweeps the bar as if looking for the man. "Garcinda told me I might find him here. And she mentioned he travelled with a beautiful..." Corvus pauses for a moment, obviously looking for the most appropriate word, "companion - and it is clear you must be the one called Crystal."

Before Crystal can respond, Corvus continues, "I understand you are escorting a wagon train to the sea and I wish to volunteer my services as a guard."

Finally she pauses, awaiting a response.

Female Teifling Bard 2

As Crystal plays, she watches the room and the dinners therein. The entrance of the Elf causes her no concern, she changes nothing about her performance even as the figure openly 'scopes' the room. At the appearance of the figure within the aura of the setting sun from the main door way all Crystal can do is think that such an entrance was lost upon those about her due to the figures complete lack of the proper theater training, though she makes mental notes as she continues to pay so that she can use such tricks in the future.

The golden-haired woman moves gracefully to the stage front, she bows slightly to the lute-player and introduces herself. "May the Light illuminate the Truth. My name is Corvus. I apologize for interrupting your playing, but I was looking for a gentleman named Merzhan."

Again, she sweeps the bar as if looking for the said gentleman. "Garcinda told me I might find him here. And she mentioned he traveled with a beautiful..." Corvus pauses for a moment, obviously looking for the most appropriate word, "companion - and it is clear you must be the one called Crystal."

Before Crystal can respond, Corvus continues, "I understand you are escorting a wagon train to the sea and I wish to volunteer my services as a guard." Finally she pauses, awaiting a response.

Crystal smiles lightly at Corvus' words of introduction. Standing and sweeping her skirts to order. Her smile spreads to a grin,

"While I haven't been any one's companion in a very long while, I do thank you for the round-about complement." Extending a hand to the young girl sitting by the stage Crystal takes it,

"M'lady Mellie may I introduce the Lady Corvus. M'lady Corvus, the Lady Mellie." The introduction seemingly directed more towards the better education of the young lass than anything else. Crystal then indicates the trio sitting at the fore most table,

"May I also introduce the stalwart companions who have been protecting myself and those others of the caravan? Navorn the Masterof arms, Borondin the brave and Ingra the indomitable." She winks mischievously at them even as she hides such a display from Corvus. Turning back to Corvus she asks with a smile,

"If you would excuse us for a brief while, M'lady Mellie's time to retire has drawn nigh." So saying the pair curtsy/bow formally before sweeping up the stairs towards their room.

Yay and glad it is to meet you! Here's to much fun and adventure to be had by all! ^_^

*Rubs hands together* Now to think of the revenge for interrupting my playing for the crowd. *plots theatricaly suitable actions*. (^.~)

Male Dwarf Fighter 3

Bornondon looks up from his pints at the newcomer.

"Har! Glad to meet you then, Lady Corvus!" in a booming drunken voice. He stands up and attempts to bow, but falls over backwards over his chair.

Male

The elf watches the priestess of Serenrae make her entrance, and gives a polite smile, mostly focusing on her supper. She glances at the bard, now named, and asks:

"I'm Daris, of the elves of the Great Woods, of the branch of Evaryth. It looks like I may be taking a circuitous route home once my business with Baron Tallifer is done." She inclines her head towards the general direction of the Baronial estate. "I've booked my original appointment, and been invited as a representative to the wedding that's impending."

"Have you been invited to play at the wedding? One can hope that the bride brought her own staff to help work out the details." A sip of the hard cider, and a bit of lamb. She turns to Corvus. "Were you invited to serve the wedding in some way?"

"Should my business here be done at the right times, I've family" (at this there's the hint of a smine) "at Aearmir. Travelling with company is pleasanter that sleeping by the side of the road with naught but a horses' ears and the Law weaver's benificence for company."

Spoiler:
Daris is being directly casual about the gentleman who made her her Paladin-Sense tingle, neither watching him overtly nor avoiding his gaze. She's listening to the music and talking between sets, and, insofar as she can, trying to read his motives (Sense Motive check).

In particular, she hopes to have some sort of indicator of how he reacts to the names and the inquiries about the upcoming events.

She is also building a mental map of who's sitting where, and how they're dressed, as a way to tie associations together. For example, someone dressed in good formal clothes is likelier to have been here a while, someone in traveling kit is probably a new arrival, and who they sit with tells something of who's actively waiting and looking for whom.

Note to Kolo: Not ignoring you, per se, but giving you the chance to write your own dialog. :)

Corvus takes in the introductions. She smiles politely at the young Lady Mellie as she is escorted away by Crystal. "May Sarenrae provide a guiding Light in the darkness of your dreams."

Corvus' smile remains fixed as she is introduced to Bornondon, and he promptly falls over. "There, there," she says, as she gainfully attempts to lift the dwarf back into his chair. "Please don't let me interrupt your revelry.” Corvus nods to Navorn and Ingra, hoping one or the other will help take the weight of the dwarf.

Still struggling, she watches as the elf speaks to Crystal. She takes more notice when Daris addresses her directly. “Serve the wedding? Me? Oh, no. I’m not a priest in that sense. We followers of the Dawnflower take many guises. My, err, calling is that of a more martial-minded sort of follower. Kind of a paladin, you could say.”

Corvus blushes at this point and returns her full attention to the dwarf.

Halfling Spellthief 3

Seeing several people gathering around the adventurers' table and introducing themselves, Kolo decides that there's no time like the present. He sidles up to the table, doing his best to appear professional and not too eager, and adds his introduction to the rest.

"Hi! I'm Koloarkestri Isgrimnur, but you can just call me Kolo -- everybody else does. If you're looking for more companions, I think we can help each other. I'm not much of a fighter," he eyes the 'paladin' lady with a bit of a frown, "but I know a bit about magic ... and about locks and traps." The 'locks and traps' bit is said in a considerably quieter tone than the words preceding it, as if he didn't want anyone outside of the adventurers' table hearing him.

"I'd really like to leave town, but I know I can't go it alone. No need to worry about me running from the law or anything; it's just that I'm the youngest son, emphasis on youngest. There's seven others ahead of me in the inheritance and there's really not much for me to do. So please, take me with you?" The last is said with a passable imitation of a child's begging eyes.

Male Human Sorceror 3

Merzhan enters the tavern, drawing the attention of those near the entrance, as is the norm for the charismatic young sorceror. His own eyes however, are drawn to the rdiant sunburst and the golden hair of the stunning woman seated near his companions.

The young mage stands in the doorway, a slightly puzzled look crossing his face, as he grins to himself, his eyes glancing skyward, and begins to stroll over to the table.

I'm gonna write Navorn in 'cause Seeker is gonna be absent for a bit

A handsome human equipped with an eight-stringed yart comes into the Eagle's Aerie, with a giggling woman on either arm. Many of the folks drinking in the common room hail him as he heads to the table. The girls head off to a nearby table and the man clambers onto the stage, weaving a counterpoint to Crystal's lute. The two similar, yet different, chordal harmonies twist around each other as they playfully duel.

Enter Eaoden ...

A tall thin elf enters the Eagle's Aerie and looks about with large pale eyes. His angular face looks tired. He is dressed in a dark grey robe with emerald designs. His long white hair gleams in the glow of the common room's fire. He walks towards the group near the stage.

Interior monologue:

Eaoden takes in the tavern, shaking off the dust from the road. His investigations of the raiders that had taken his parents had brought him to the foothills of the Darkridge Mountains. It was a distance from the Fallcrests, but the orcish raiders grew bold once again, striking all along the forbidding mountain chain. All their trails pointed towards the ancient city of Tharkad-Kûl. He scans the room, and notices a table with a group of capable-looking adventurers by the stage. Perhaps his search had gotten to the point where he could use assistance ...

Male Elf Wizard (Fire Elementalist)

Walking up to the table the young elf takes a bow and as he stands up right, a small black raven comes to perch on his shoulder. Eaoden asks the group "Hail and well met. Was wondering if I may join your table here. Travel on the roads these days is a hard affair." With a half a smile the the elf adds "forgive me, where are my manors. My name is Eaoden Fallcrest, a wizard." After the introduction Eaoden then takes a second bow and waits before taking a seat.

Female Silver Elf Paladin 3

Daris looks up. "Greetings, gentleman scholar." She cracks the bone of her lamb-shank to get at the marrow, and primly holds it up for the bird.

"Daris of the Evaryth. Have a seat."

Corvus looks up as a confident young man steps into the tavern - then he grins and starts towards the table she is currently adjacent to - the dwarf still requiring most of her attention.

She considers him as he crosses the room. 'Confident. A noble bearing. Handsome. Most certainly self assured. This must be the sorceror that Cinda was so taken with. Well...each to their own I suppose.'

She smiles politely at the newcomer as he draws near.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1 (favoured class)

The Exchange

Male Human Sorceror 3

"I see that you wear the raiment of the Dawnflower my lady. I am Merzhan Al-Kahadi'im, Sorceror andf servant of our Brilliant Lady, it is a pleasure to meet you."

The charming young man brings his hands together as he bows slightly, his accent warm and rich.

Male Human 3rd

Navorn, sets about playing off crystals song and in turn leading into yet another, allowing her to lead at times and try to keep up at others. After a time he lifts his voice in song, sings of long lost loves and a battle with an evil long since slain

After he makes his way to the able, catching the serving lass as he cross the room and orders both wine and a hearty meal as he makes his way toward the table. He only stops to whisper something to a woman, who blushes as he laughs then makes his way toward the table

'what do we have here my friends?' He says with a clear voice and a grin on his face "Borondon, you been letting them paws you call hands wonder a little to much ah? He says arching his eyebrows and bowing toward the new comers "Navron of silvertree at your service' He says with a smile "I think we are in dire need of a bigger table.'

Corvus gives Merzhan a bief nod as he addresses her. "May the Light guide you good sir. Cinda has spoken of your magery and..ahem, other things besides."

As Navorn approaches, she spares him half a glance. As he comments about the possibility that the dwarf has been in any way intimate with her, she makes a clear body movement away from the newcomer and towards Merzhan.

"Cinda described you as a true gentleman. Yes, there now appears to be too few left in the world." Her smiles seems much warmer now, as she gives Merzhan her undivided attention.

The Exchange

Male Human Sorceror 3

Merzhan smiles even more broadly at the less than subtle reference to Cinda. "I thank you for your kind words. You may consider me at your disposal good lady"

His body language shifts almost imperceptably yet his posture is at once inviting and protective.

"Thanks" Eaoden says as he finds an empty seat and settles into it, the raven cocking his head this way and that. Eaoden then looks for either the bar keep or a server and orders a goblet of wine and a plate of meat, cheese and bread. After paying up the elf begins to cut up some of the meat into small pieces and feeds them to the bird who seems to be enjoying his meal. A bit of turnip and gravy, a sip of cider.

"Once that is done, I'm free to follow my duty as my conscience sees fit, or until they send a message to me to handle something more urgent."

She takes a longer sip of the cider, and glances up at the raven on the taller elf's shoulder. A faint smile. "My cousin says that ravens are disarmingly clever, and the only thing keeping them from being full fledged hazards is that they're relatively easily bribed. On the other hand, his kept trying to drop tortoises from a great height to get at the meat inside them."

Navron grins as Corvus moves away as he takes a seat. Then arches his eyebrow and nods to the far corner "That lass being eying ya all night, my stout friend. Being friendly with the townfolks or may-hap she just likes em short and breaded?" He says with a laugh.

Drinking from his wine cup as he settles down Navorn turns toward Merzhan , seeing his protective stance he again grins and with a small chuckle says "So my friend what have you been into. Have not seen you in a few days. I hope you have found the town as entertaining as I have'

Holding her skirts, she walks up to the group that is now forming around her friends and with a polite and formal curtsy introduces herself,

She stands and awaits every one elses comments with a smile.

"Hi! I'm Koloarkestri Isgrimnur, but you can call me Kolo. I'm hoping to join up with you all, but I don't think these guys paid any attention to me when I introduced myself." He looks sad for a moment, then smiles at her again.

Corvus considers the banter between the group. Anyone paying attention will notice she closes her eyes for a few seconds and appears outwardly serene.

Spoiler:
Eyes closed, she offers up a brief internal prayer.

'Sarenrae, I know you have taught me to show temperance and patience in all things but I am wondering how I am to demonstrate compassion and peace under these circumstances. Please give me a sign that my decision to join this group was the right one.'

She does not really expect any sign but takes this as another opportunity to hope for some divine intervention.

Opening her eyes again, she sweeps the room, as if looking for someone before returning her attention to those present.

The waitress brings refreshments and loaves of fresh-baked bread and pots of wild sugarberry jam. The common room buzzes with supper conversation. The hot topic is the upcoming baronial nuptuals. House Tallifer is underwriting a large celebratory party for the town in addition to the smaller private wedding party. The locals are currently discussing how to turn a gold coin or two from the expected swell of out-of-towners.

Crystal has already received an invitation to the soiree, and Navorn has been invited to perform. Daris of course has an invitation, and Merzhan has been invited by Garcinda to be her escort.

Calming herself, a self-satisfied smile starts to spread across her face. Absent-mindedly she picks at some bread and jam - and is only vaguely aware that Crystal is talking to her.

"My apologies," she finally says, "were you saying something? My mind was wandering." She makes a small embarrassed laugh before that broad smile returns to her face. "Please go on..."
