Breakneck comes on the scene as the building seems to shake from the falling debris. He very quickly runs through the lower floors, leading people out or carrying them as needed.

When outside he sees the others swiftly getting to endangered to safety. He zips around the building then sees a woman with a baby in arms attempt to climb out the window, on to a precarious edge. Without much thought he runs up the side, grabs her and her baby and carries them around to the triage center.

Prime is caring for the injured, as mentioned a few posts back. His Treatment skill rolls were made there, and should serve to cover the Treating the injured requirement.

Straightjacket bounded over to the burning building looking for some way to hold it up so people could get out. He stretches and out tries to hold up one of the collapsing corners, only to have masonry come apart in his hands.

"Don't waste your time trying that, the structure will just come down around what little you can hold up. Just follow me and grab the people I find. Get them clear of the mess. " Donald exclaims as he runs into the building, ignoring the fires as much as he ignores the solid walls.

David is forced to squeeze through gaps in the wall to follow him. "Roger, following."

As Don runs down a hallway, he sticks his head through the walls scanning the rooms beyond for survivors.

He then grows larger and scoops up the family in his stretched out hands formed sort of like a shovel. "Uhh, maam, let me get you out of here. Just hold onto each other and I should be able to get you clear"

Then he uses he body as a shield for any falling debris and carries the family out of the doomed building.

Nanael turns to the panicked people surrounding the site and tries to calm them down.

"Fear not we will do everything that we can to get them all out, so please stay calm and let us work."

She looks over her shoulder seeing The Evil Eye returning to the ground with a pair of kids and she smiles brightly to him and the kids before turning back to the crowd.

"Do anyone know these children and can keep them out of harms way until the kind doctor can have a look at them?"

She asks the crowd and directs the man, who acknowledges that he knows the children, to them.

Coming to the aid of the people, our heroes spring into action. Dan Cranston stealthily moves towards one of the cars blocking access to the roads for an ambulance. Hotwiring the vehicle, he pulls it out of the way, giving the ambulance better access to get close.

The Evil Eye rescues a pair of small children from a high balcony, bringing them to safety below.

Breakneck helps lead people out of the building, moving at incredible speed, including a mother and her infant child.

Prime helps some of those still able to be saved from their wounds.

Failing to keep the building upright, Straightjacket manages to find more people trapped in the building, almost eerily guiding himself straight to them, before punching them a way out.

Nanael speaks to the crowd, helping to reunite loved ones and bringing a sense of peace and order to the chaotic mass.

I'm not sure I understand that last sentence. You mean we hear an explosion in the building? Is there any indication of what happened? Any external threat we've seen? (Shrapnel headed for the people, more explosions coming...)

As for the overall process, seems like you are running this kind of like rounds... so is this now round 2?

Male Demigawd Nerd 5, Dungeon Master 6, RPGA GM 2, PFS GM 1

This is indeed being run as rounds, so yes Round 2.

The last sentence was a poorly written descriptor where I attempted to indicate that this is a living, breathing scene and other things are happening while you attempt to rescue everyone. No real modifiers beyond that.

Gumshoe searches the building for more survivors, but fails to find any, the confusion of the scene difficult to navigate even for his trained skills.

Nanael attempts to calm more of the people, attempting to give false hope, but her words are without conviction and the people, though not as riled as before, still have not gain enough order to ensure the safety of many.

He hears a whimpering cry for help behind a partially collapsed area. He is cut off from the source. Looking for a way around, he feels the heat and pressure, and feels as if he is melting. Suddenly, he finds himself flowing around the collapsed area and through the narrow openings. On the other side, he reforms and finds a worker trapped in the half of the room with windows but no doors.

"I'll get you out." he says, using his best reassuring, calm voice from his years of experience. He picks up the worker and leaps out the window onto the street below. "Have the paramedics check you out, m'am."

Breakneck looks around at what's keeping the fire trucks away. Seeing blocked roadways all about he runs around looking for a possible route through the maze like area. If he finds one he will mark the path with flags.

Randolf can't see any other people trapped in the building, thankfully. However he hears the sounds of several children crying in the crowd. As he moves to them, he notices that Nanael was having some trouble getting their attention. Not really having the people skills to comfort them, he tried to chip in and do what he could.

Seeing the last of his patients stabilized, though most certainly not out to the woods, Dr. Prim turns his attention to the building and takes a long look to get an idea of the scope of what is going on. The fires are raging unchecked, and the fire crews still to impeded to gain access.

He runs to one of the ambulances, and moving through the supplies pulls out a large fire extinguisher. He makes no move to pull the pin or arm it, instead carrying it up to the building, eyeing the fires.

He backs away hurriedly, and for several seconds, nothing happens. Then there is a loud pop and white clouds jet out where moments ago there were flames. In the wake, the flames vanish, and only smoke and the left over wisps of super cooled CO2 gas emerge from the area.

Through everyone's hard work, the civilians are rescued, the people calmed, the injured healed, and the rescue vehicles given a chance to make it through. A hard job to be sure, particularly for some novices in the ways of superheroism.

Prime:

While treating one of the injured, they mutter to themselves several times feverishly. "Red...shift....truck....exploded....Nancy, Lisa,.....Oh God!...." He doesn't regain consciousness, but you do notice a wedding ring on one finger. His wounds seem quite severe, as though close to some kind of explosion.

During your treatment, you notice something strange about the wounds. Without a thorough examination, you're not sure what it is, and at present it's too public to perform such an examination without giving yourself away.

Gumshoe:
After helping some people escape from the nearby building, a civilian with a bandaged head comes up to you. "Hey, I haven't had a chance to tell the police yet, but I gotta tell someone. The explosion, I saw it. I was walking my dog, Rex, and happened to stop to talk to this cute girl. She dumped me, and while I was watching her leave, I happened to notice this Redshift Energy truck parked nearby. Suddenly the thing just, I dunno, it exploded all of a sudden. Then this silver mist came out and started swirling everywhere. The girl I was just talking to, I watched her change into some kind of, I dunno, an animal. Looked kinda like a mongoose. I hear you guys had to stop her. Didn't seem like a bad lady when I talked to her. But I had to tell someone what I saw, and you guys are good guys too, right?"

Dan:
While hiding within shadows, you overhear the conversation that takes place between Gumshoe and a civilian. Please read his spoiler. (I know, lazy, right?)

Breakneck:
While running through, setting up markings for the emergency vehicles to get through, you find what must have been the epicenter of the blast. Everything seems blasted away from a central point, a central point that was originally a truck of some form. (I currently assume you haven't approached it yet. If you wish to let me know.)

Nanael & Evil Eye:
Doing your best to keep the people calmed, it seems to work wonders. You manage to reunite several loved ones with each other, match children to parents, and otherwise endear yourselves to the crowd.

While two children talk about what the explosion must have looked like, one particular little girl you haven't yet been able to match to a parent yet suddenly starts screaming at them, "NUH UH, it was really really scary. My mommy and daddy and I saw it, but they...." Suddenly she falls to the ground and begins crying, holding her kness to herself, "I want my mommy and daddy! Where are they?"

Starightjacket:

"Truly a pleasure, Straightjacket. And defintely agree on that. So I was curious if you had any idea of what may have happened around here? I was talking to a few people over by the ambulance, and they seem to think they saw a truck of some kind explode. Any ideas on that?"

Your father suddenly realizes who this is through his questioning. Eddie Pollard, a reporter for the Emerald City Courier-Express. He's made many enemies over the years, being the type to look for the truth of a matter be it corrupt politicians or sports stars on drugs. He's been known in the past to be a friend to the few capes that have come through town, believing in their vigilante justice.

You take to the sky, searching for others who may still be lost or trapped, but sadly the only people you find are those who were not fortunate to see your arrival in time, most lost to the initial devesatation rather than the follow-up chaos.

Nanael:
As Evil Eye takes off, the little girl comes up to you. "He...he won't find them. They were ...the truck..." She starts to tear up again, looking at you expectantly. "Can you bring them back from Heaven?"

Prime 691:

Examining the bodies, you come across something strange in the man's bloodstream and tissue. Tiny machines, nanites, lie inert in his body coursing through him. The odd thing is they don't seem to be breaking down despite their inactive state.

"Umm what? Actually I didn't see anything. Just heard a boom then some psycho lady was going to squash a bunch of people with a fire engine. I managed to get myself in the way. Eventually I was able to take her down. A truck you say? Hmm, I guess someone ought to look into that."

"Psst. that's Eddie Pollard, he's a local reporter, and one of the good ones. He pisses off all the right people, so you can trust him."

Eddie gives you a quizzical look for a moment, "You might wanna get yourself checked out. I've looked into those rumors that living under power lines do things to you, but not so sure about magnetism or whatever it was she was throwing around. Don't want the good ones like you getting into trouble. The truck is about a block down the road, round the corner up ahead if you want to have a look with some of your hero buddies. Here, take my card, call me if you need anything, you hear? I have another rumor I want to follow up on. Give me a call either way, I'll let you know if I find anything out, okay?"

The Evil Eye wanted to fly anywhere rather than back to the side of the angel and that child. "I'm sorry, sweetie, but I couldn't find them. I'm not sure where they are," he added, not exactly telling the truth, because he had a pretty good feeling he knew exactly what had happened to them.

Dan listened from the shadows, raising an eyebrow at the story and jotted down some notes in his phone.

Redshift. Gonna need to look into that. Maybe that detective-looking fellow can give me a hand...

At the moment he was going to need more information. He looked around for the highest ranking police officer on scene.

Everything they know is going to funnel through him, at least until the feds show up.

Dan spent the next few minutes literally shadowing the officer. Wherever he went, Dan followed, skipping between dark patches and trying to piece together what happened here.

Nanael reaches out with a soft smile, at the girl's words and the grib of deceit releases her and the word is once mroe bathed in soft blue, Nanael reaches out and gently touches girl's cheek removing a tear then she whispers jsut loud enough for the girl to hear, "Close your eyes my child and listen to what your heart says."

There are nanites all through this man's bloodstream! Where did they come from, the explosion? Could that silver cloud have been a cloud of microscopic nanites?

The ones in this man are non-functioning, at least at present. That many of them is likely to impair liver and kidney function, and if the non-functional units start collecting anywhere, he could have a stroke, or the blockage could shut down his kidneys and lead to organ failure. I'll have to 'discover' this particular fact as soon as possible once we get back to the hospital, and hopefully dialysis will be able to screen the robots out. I should check the other victims! Is it possible anyone else could be infected in the same way?

Dr. Prim moves to the next patient, looking for someone with similar wounds. Once he finds one, he examines them in the same way to see if they have the nanites as well.

Dan:

I'll be doing yours as kind of a play by play thing as items reveal themselves. Let me know if you want to break away.

Following the officer, you eventually come to a plain clothes detective the officer addresses as Maggie Buckner. The woman, looking to be half-Korean, quickly listens as the man explains the situation at hand. Before he finishes, she interrupts, "Yes, I've heard. Reports of these Stormers, as the news is already calling them, are appearing all over town. The department is calling in everyone they can to deal with some of the issues. Any idea where this all started?"

The officer's face brightens a bit, "Actually yea, one of the civilians saw it start when a truck exploded. I'll show you." The two begin to walk in that direction.

As the scene of the explosion is approached by all, the one thing that is noticed are the few bodies still in the area, those that were obviously too late to be saved. While the main area has been cordoned off, the investigators haven't had time to get everything marked down yet.

Straightjacket arrives at the scene to see the remains of a work truck. The signage marks it as belonging to Redshift Energies. A search inside reveals it to be carrying some kind of storage tanks, though what was in them is now gone. The driver of the vehicle is still inside, quite dead.

Straightjacket, your father happens to notice a strange metallic dust covering the nearby scene, though he's not sure what it is without taking the time to examine it.

At this time Dr. Prim comes into the scene. It takes little time for his facial recognition to identify two individuals likely to be the little girl's parents, quite gone from this world. You also notice the metallic dust covering everything.

I'm assuming you analyze it. The dust itself appears to be the cause of the silver storm, as the dust itself are nanites, currently in the process of breaking down at a rapid pace. You also realize that these nanites are far beyond any technology you have ever seen, no science on earth accounting for them.

Both Dr. Prim and Starightjacket see each other at this time.

"Thanks for the information, buddy. If you're looking for a cop to tell." Gumshoe looks for Officer Brown and points him out. "That officer would be a good place to start. Now, if you'll pardon me, I'm going to see if I can find anything at the truck sight."

Gumshoe leaps over to the area he saw the truck parked before all this began. He looks around for additional clues.

Gumshoe, you realize that Redshift Energies is a local energy research company. In recent years they have begun to do quite well for themselves. The main line of research that they do is for newer-model hybrid vehicles.

The detectives
Nanael, Evil Eye, Breakneck, Dan

Heading towards the scene of the truck, Detective Maggie Buckner comes across Nanael and Evil Eye. "My man has been telling me what you capes have been doing for the city. I have to tell you, you need to leave this kind of police work to us professionals. On the record." She smiles after saying that, "Off the record though, nice job. My men will take over the civilians from here. Don't suppose any of you have any idea of what happened here? I was on my way to investigate the apparent cause of this explosion."

About this time Breakneck arrives, letting the detective know what he knows, having been directed to her by other officers. "Thanks for the information. Want to lead on so my officer can help here?"

Way back near the edge of the destruction
No one's nearby, but Nanael, Evil Eye, Breakneck, and Dan can see

A couple of black unmarked sedans pull up and men dressed in black suits get out. The federal agents have arrived, finally. Though it will still take time for them to get to the blast.

"I'm brand new to this, Evil Eye tells the others. "I'm not 100% sure exactly what I can do but I don't think I have Anya billies that would really help with investigating a crime scene. I can sense magic use, but other than that, I'm not sure how helpful I can be."

Breakneck talks to an officer who directs him to the police agent in charge. After her little speech Breakneck says, "I'd like to leave these matters to the police myself but it seems there was little choice to get involved with the sudden attacks. Now that you're here I'm perfectly willing to leave it to the professionals." Breakneck lead people to the scene, as they arrive so do black vehicles that pour out agents that appear to be feds. "Looks like everybody is showing up, I agree with - hmm, what do I call you anyway?" Breakneck waves at The Evil Eye."I have no expertise in any investigation."

"Well why don't you follow along for now anyway, I'd like to have a chat with as many of you as I can." Detective Buckner continues towards the scene, speaking to any that follows. "Know what the biggest problem Emerald City has dealing with these types of incidents? Our city doesn't have any heroes of it's own. Sure, every now and then a cape comes by, helps us out. But they don't stay long. We've been fortunate the villains have been the same way. But those scenarios when we don't have a cape to help, those don't always work out so well for us.

Having arrived at the scene of the explosion, everyone is able to hear the next part, heroes, Dr. Prim and one shadowy area nearby. "The events that happened here? They happened all over town. And a lot of them have gotten away already. Which is why I'd like to work with the lot of you on this. If it was just one villain, we'd make do. But who knows might be out there now.

"The department of course can't publicy work with a bunch of vigilantes no matter what, but you saved a lot of lives today, so I'm going with my gut and thinking that I can trust some of you. Of course we'd need to have some way to make contact with each other. I'll be more than happy to give you my card to contact me if you need any information. And the department can give out a hotline number for you to help with contact. Or if there's anything else you all can suggest. In return, I'd like it that you let us know if you find anything out about this storm. I'll share what I'm able to find out.

"I'll be honest, I'm worried that this is going to become something a lot bigger than the department can handle on it's own. I'd like to stop it before anything gets more out of hand. What do you all say?"

Gumshoe clears his throat, nodding "Strange that a Redshift Truck was involved with this. Might be a good idea to check out their factory if we can't find anything here. I gotta admit... I'm not really sure what happened to me, or how I got these... abilities. But it looks like a few of us that were affected chose our better natures while a few others were put in touch with something darker within themselves. I'm not sure we can even blame all of those 'villains' for their actions here today. But if this was just a test, if someone is experimenting with creating supers, I'd say it's likely to get worse before it gets better. "

"I agree with the detective here, we may need to stick together to handle whatever this is. Maybe we should get out of the authorities' way and figure out how that's going to be possible. If we could have your card, Detective, we can give you a call after we've settle ourselves a bit?" Sam hated pretending that he didn't know Maggie, but until he could figure out what was happening and make sure his family was ok and unaffected, he wasn't taking any chances of revealing who he was. It didn't help that his department cell phone had been vibrating in his pocket for the last five minutes. His boss was probably completely pissed off at him by now.

"I'll be having a couple of my men look into them. But if they are behind it, they may well clear anything incriminating out by the time we get a warrant to search their facilities. I will of course let any of you interested know what they find."

"Of course, Dtective, I'd be happy to help however I can. Emerald City is my home. I don't know how long these powers will effect me, but as long as I have them, I'd be perfectly happy to pitch in around here.

The Evil Eye gave the Detective his cell phone number, in case of emergency.

"You know, we could always run over to the Redshift company, and see what we could find out..."

"Yeah, sure. I'm willing to help. I'm a bit new at this business. As for getting us, maybe you guys could set up a web site or something that we could check. I dunno, there has to be a way for us to get information without people having to give up their privacy. "

hearing the suggesting about investigating the company

"Yeah, that a cool idea"

"Are you nuts? That's breaking and entering! Do you want a criminal record son?"

"Er, I mean that might be good if we can get them to let us in. "

Breakneck nods and says, "Me, too, my powers appeared at the same time as this event, I cannot believe it's not connected somehow. I'll certainly do anything I can to help." Breakneck shakes his head at the suggestion they go sleuthing at other places. "That truck is somewhat suspicious but we really do not know anything and I'm not police or any kind of investigator. I don't want to break any laws or violate any rights. I'll take the card and check in everyday. I don't have any other ideas about how to let someone get in touch with me, yet. I want to figure out what happened to me and what I can really do; I expect that to take awhile." Breakneck considers if he should say any more then concludes with, "All I know is I was outside, and saw the explosion, then went over and got hurt but not really as hurt as I should have been, and then noticed that I could do - uh, stuff that was impossible. I grabbed a quick costume, very quick and went to help. That's all I know, right now." Breakneck then shuts up, fearing he said too much in his eagerness to help.

Dr. Prim is bent low, getting a close look at the silvery powder in a place where is dusts a parked car, "This dust that is coating everything looks as though it might have something to do with all of this. Once the injured are cared for, I'll take a sample back to the University for analysis. I'm not a super, but then, most super-groups on TV always seem to keep a few civilian friends with expertise in a few areas, and I don't mind lending a hand in that fashion if I can."

Gumshoe nods. "You were pretty cool under pressure back there, Doc. I'm sure your expertise will be invaluable."

Randolf wasn't able to shake the feeling that the company truck exploding had something more to do with the incident that the others. However without backup, he wasn't about to go galavanting into a possibly legit business, and get arrested for trespassing. "Alright, I suppose you are right. I don't want to be arrested, either," he says kind of glumly, a little bit disappointed he wouldn't have a chance to show off more of his new powers.

"I obviously can't give you permission to do anything illegal, but it takes a while to to get a warrant to search the place. And besides, sometimes people respond better to capes than to the police. The choice is up to all of you. I'll see about setting up a website if you like, give me a call in a few hours and I'll see about setting up logins for all of you who want one."

The detective turns to Dr. Prim. "You sure that stuff isn't dangerous? I'd rather our lab boys take a sample of it first. Of course considering we're standing in the middle of a load of the stuff, I'd expect if it was a neurotoxin or something like that we'd all be dead by now." She sighs. "If you do take some, just be damn careful."

"Well it can't hurt to go there and ask to see what's inside. I mean didn't we get some news coverage with our helping with the stuff here? We can take advantage of our notoriety. "

"And if someone is really sneaky, and no I know you are not that someone, maybe that can slip in a find out some stuff"

"Yeah, good point" he replies looking off to the side where nobody apparently is standing.

"And maybe someone who's sneaky might be able to look around a bit more once we're inside."

"That shadow guy's probably around somewhere close-by, maybe listening. Why don't the rest of us try the front door approach. Maybe we can persuade them it'd be worthwhile to rule them out as suspects." Sam's inner cop couldn't help but show through. "Well, anyway, let's head there now. Doc, I'll be in touch to find out what you see in the silver powder, ok?"
