"Interesting, quite." Elvom responds. "Useful ... well, let us hope that fortune has smiled more upon Liriel."

Female Shifter (Razer claw) Witch (moon patron) 6

"So Liriel anything that we can use in that book?" Lyre asks whilst looking over Liriel's shoulder.

Female Gnome Artificer 6

"Well, there are a bunch of maps and logs and stuff. We should probably go over as much of them as we can, particurlarly the records of the last battle recorded here to see if we have a likely suspect. Either the Egg we seek was left on the Field, or it was taken off by either a survivor or a later looter."

You spend the next six hours scouring the stacks for any hint of lore until you stumble upon the ledgers of a Cyre war financier who makes multiple references to the Egg and the price the government spent to retrieve and research the object. In addition he makes note of the Egg being sent for it's first big test on a battlefield in southern Cyre. Cross referencing the dates you realize the Egg was likely there during the final fight. You also look through all the logs you can find from reclamation teams sent into the Mournland to see if anyone recovered an object like the Egg but your search comes up empty. Given the info you can find it seems the Field is the best place to start looking.

It appears I'm going on an impromptu camping trip today. I won't be back in civilization until the 8th. I may be able to post on my friend's phone if we have service but I will prolly be incognito until next week, sry for any inconvenience.

Elvom sketches a copy of the map of the Field and the surrounding area.

As he, Lyre, and Liriel begin to plot a route, he looks up the names of the dominant political powers and sketches copies of their heraldry.

"Are the Warforged vulnerable to subterfuge?" Elvom asks. "Could a disguise convince these reavers to accost other targets as we search for the egg?"

Hey all I'm back.

Elvombor Isebring wrote:

The Lord of Blades and his reavers have no known allies. However the Warforged consider themselves rare and valuable if you are attacked and display sufficient strength to drive them off they will likely not pursue you again.

A final bit of vital info you discover in the financier's ledger: The caravan the Egg traveled in contained a regiment of Black Fire Knights (an elite Cyre company), an escort of Karnnathi Undead and a Wealth Altar (a tank like construct design to protect valuables). Should you discover the remains of this group in the Field you should be close to finding the Egg.

Listed amongst the ledgers is a reclamation team based in Sharn, the Black Dog Mercenaries.

Knowledge local DC 15:
A savage group of treasure hunters the Black Dogs have their "offices" in the depths of Sharn. They would certainly be willing to tell you all the the useful information they've gleaned from the Field of Ruins...for a price.

Hmmm the set up of this adventure is turning into a bit of a long walk. If you guys get bored just tell me and we can gloss over the investigation and travel bits and jump to the Field and it's waiting treasures and dangers. Never done a PbP before this one so it's a bit more difficult than an around the table group to judge how the pacing is effecting folks and if everyone's having fun.

"That would have it's own problems, it'd raise up more questions about why anyone in their right minds would be entertaining thoughts of going to that area. I think we have what we need to start, we've got location, maps, lets just get supplies and go!"

As you leave the library laden with intricate maps and solid info a startled cry arises from a group of student standing nearby. They shout and point as a large windship with a sleek profile cuts through the air dangerously low over Sharn's towers, at one point coming within a few handspans of knocking a priceless statue off the roof of Morgrave as it moves to dock with a nearby spire.

Liriel:
Son of a...That's the Leaping Sphinx, a ship you haven't seen in years. It's captain, Liam Nagesh is an old friend from your days aboard the Folly. Come to think of it, the old rogue owes you thousands of gold pieces from that time you repaired his ship's vital systems after a red dragon attack. Perhaps now is a good time to cash in that debt. The captain is a notorious gambler so he almost certainly doesn't have the cash to repay his debt on hand but maybe he'd be willing to work it off by giving you a stylish ride in your search for the egg...

Female Gnome Artificer 6

"The Leaping Sphinx! Check your books now students. Our ride has arrived." Liriel starts in a mad dash off to the docking spire.

If you're walking you're being left behind, Liriel is taking off at a dead run. :)

"Come along fellows, quit dragging your feet!"

Female Shifter (Razer claw) Witch (moon patron) 6

"Wait wha-" Lyre begins to run after Liriel

You arrive at the docking spire in time to see the black bearded Liam arguing with the port authority, he drops a few coins in the man's hand and waves him away. The portly bureaucrat walks away from the charismatic Captain looking like he just got taken for a ride and knows it but never the less retreats in defeat.

As the roguish looking crew unload shady looking crates from the windship Liam straightens the collar of his black leather duster and smiles in self satisfaction. He sees you approach out of the corner of his eye and turns to you, his grin growing wider.

"Liriel!" He bellows, "I haven't seen you in a dragon's age! What are you doing in Sharn?!"

Female Gnome Artificer 6

Liriel returns Liam's greeting with her customary twinkle in her eye. "Been berthed here for awhile ever since Ceran ran out of dodges and his debts finally caught up to him and the courts seized his ship. So, I've got new companions now. We were doing some research at Margrave when I saw that flying accident you call a ship come in. And where have you been these days.? Keeping better distance from dragons I hope."

Liam lets out a belly laugh and casts a surreptitious glance at the unmarked crates his crew is unloading onto a wagon. "Here and there." He replies. "And yes, avoiding dragons at all costs, as well as anything else with wings and fangs. So are you out of work now? I could use a skilled engineer on board, the guy I have now...ugh."

As he seems to roll around the idea in his head his face suddenly scrunches up as he recalls the work you did for him when you last parted ways and how much gold he already owes you. "Oh...and about my debt to you, er would you mind my paying that off in trade or service or something? I recently got a decent payday but I need the cash for...expenses, running the ship, paying the crew and the like..."

"Miss Liriel," Elvom interjects "it is my experience that gold in hand is the most secure form of compensation."

"Considering your level of expertise, service in trade would need to be of considerable duration..." Elvom pauses, "...or entail something quite hazardous."

Elvom turns toward Liriel, facing away from Liam. "Yes, the gold is most certainly your best option in this circumstance." Elvom winks at Liriel.

Female Gnome Artificer 6

"You know Liam, today is your lucky day. As it so happens, me and my fellows are planning a bit of an archeological expedition. In exchange for a bit of transportational assistance, I'll call it square between us and take a look at what abuse you've done to my engineworks."

Liam noticeably brightens at your offer. "Sounds like a deal!" He says, accepting your terms. He is about to say something more when he glances over your shoulder and his eyes widen in worry.

Approaching from behind you is an elf in noble's clothing wielding a longsword and followed by two bugbear bodyguards. "You've ripped my boss off for the last time Nagesh." he says with a snarl. "This time you pay in blood!"

"Er, would you mind helping me out a bit Liriel?" Liam asks. "I don't think this gentlemen is too happy with me..."

The elf and the bugbears start 40ft away from you.

Female Shifter (Razer claw) Witch (moon patron) 6

"Why would he not be happy with you?"

Female Gnome Artificer 6

"Shush Lyre. It doesn't matter what his problem is we were here first!"

"Hey Longears! Liam is with us. You've got your two buddies, and Liam has all of us. Settle your beef another time or face some really expensive consequences." She calls out as she puts her hand visibly on her wand.

"Walk away gnome." The Elf demands with a snarl. "We're killing this fool and taking his ship, he owes our boss big."

"Well there is nothing for it!" Liam exclaims as he quick draws a wand from his sleeve and points it at the bugbear on the left. A lightning bolt leaps forth and blows the top of the goblinoid's head off with explosive force.

The Elf hisses in anger and moves to attack.

Initiative order
Elvombor +7
Liriel+6
Hostile Elf +6
Captain Liam +5 (already went this round)
Lyre +3
Bugbear +2

Lordjimbo wrote:

... that is short-lived. In the blink of an eye, a longbow appears in his hands, delivering an arrow into the other bugbear.

Longbow (Standard Action; 40 ft.):
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 301d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

He shouts at the Elf: "Finduilas calmcacil arafinwë! Súrion!"

Elvish:
Your future is at risk! Desist!

As he reaches for another arrow, a worried look crosses Elvom's face.

Inner Thoughts:
This group in front is far too small. There will be an attack from above or behind, and I have not warned the others!

Female Gnome Artificer 6

"When you go crying to your cleric, or your god, remember that it was your choice that put yourself there."

She pulls out her wand and fires (automatic unless she rolls a 1)

UMD roll 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (1) + 19 = 20

Magic missle attack 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4, 2, 1) + 4 = 12

Female Gnome Artificer 6

Technically the rule is "If you roll a 1 and fail" I think I actually make the DC with a 20 so it's your call if the wand goes off or not. Also eliminate the last die +1 from that damage roll, the wand only does 3 dice

Bleh I'm really sorry about the delay some weird circumstances had left me sans internet for a week.

Longbow VS AC 16: Hit 7 damage to the bugbear

I think the roll a 1 and fail automatically doesn't apply to skill checks, I'll try and look it up later but in this instance I rule you succeed. Question: Who are the magic missiles targeting, all on the elf?

Yes.

10 damage to the elf. He staggers as he is struck.

The elf raises a hand and hisses out some arcane syllables responding with a magic missile attack of his own.

3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3, 2) + 3 = 11 damage to Liriel

Female Shifter (Razer claw) Witch (moon patron) 6

Lyre brings a curse of drowsiness down on the Bugbears

(Using sleep hex Can affect up to 6hd of creatures Dc17 Will save or fall asleep)

Bugbear will save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 The Bugbear collapses to the ground and snores loudly.

New round.

A pair of gargoyles descend from the sky, 20ft up and 30 feet away. They hiss and snarl as they prepare to attack.

Gargoyle Initiative +2

double bleh I hope we haven't lost Elvombor. Let's wait a bit more I suppose, in the mean time would you join me on the ooc thread for a bit?

Gargoyle Initiative +2

Elvom yells, "TWO, ON HIGH!" and attempts to double-tap the close/left gargoyle...

Longbow (Full Attack; Rapid Shot; 30 ft):

Shot 1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 181d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Shot 2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 151d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

...one arrow narrowly misses the gargoyle's eye, the other protrudes from the gargoyle's shoulder. The gargoyle replies with a shrill screech, and stares venom at Elvom.

"This may get as ugly as those gargoyles."

Female Shifter (Razer claw) Witch (moon patron) 6

Lyre attempts the drowsiness curse on the two Gargoyls (Assuming they are still alive come her turn)

2 arrows Vs AC 15 2 hits 25 damage.

Female Gnome Artificer 6

If the gargoyles are still aloft, Liriel switches out her current wand for a ruby red one. If they're grounded, she'll move to a spot where she can catch two or more enemies in a line and use the lightning bolt wand instead. (dice are the same though)

"Hey you overgrown, overly mobile excuses for stone statues! You look way to chilled out for my tastes!"

Wand of Fireball 5d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 6, 6) = 25 Reflex DC 14

Liriel wrote:

Wand of Fireball 5d6 Reflex DC 14

The Gargoyles still hover. Ref save hurt Garg 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 12 damage the monster burns to a crisp. Ref save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 25 damage the other Garg is severely burned.

The elf chants again and strikes Liriel with more magic missiles. 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 1, 1) + 3 = 9 damage

Captain Liam unleashes a lighting bolt against the remaining Gargoyle. 6d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6, 3, 5, 5) = 21 Ref save 14 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 The Gargoyle is blown apart.

Female Shifter (Razer claw) Witch (moon patron) 6

Seeing the Gargoyls blown to bits Lyre decides to insted to attack the elf

Attack (+2 if flanking)

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Damage

1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Attack VS AC 13 hit 6 damage.

Male Elf Fighter (Archer) 5 / Wizard (Foresight) 1

Elvom draws an arrow and takes a few quick strides toward the elf while aiming carefully and steadying his nerve.
He is fairly certain he won't hit Lyre ... maybe.

Elvom will Ready an action; if the elf does anything hostile (draws a weapon, attacks Lyre, starts to cast a spell, attempts to use a magical item, etc.), Elvom will fire a Focused Shot (+12, 1d8+9) at his throat.

"Hold Lyre! No elves need die today."

Female Gnome Artificer 6

will hold her next action depending how things further unfold.
