Essar Kalvin |

It would seem that I will be kissing Death's Door soon, there be no reason to die just yet however... I have no allies who would give me a cure however it takes a while for the damn disease to manifest itself. Time enough for me to die well, I have a duty to what is left of my Claw unit to either destroy them if they be undead or free them if they are still among the living. I also have the duty to ensure that my cousin comes with me to dolurrth, if I must die I die well...
Essar will be retiring (in Karnn style), indeed I am formulating what character might replace him in the scheme of things... The hybrid playtest book is coming out in two days and one class from it the "Investigator" sounds like it might fit well, from what I have heard the investigator is a mix of alchemist/rogue and if the group wants skills over healing and the gm permits I might make one. I suppose however that the hybrid playtest book will have to be perused?

Xov |

Xov paused for a moment, looking a little taken aback.
Whispering through his spell, he said to Essar
"I must confess that I am somewhat surprised by your words...I may even know someone who could cure you..."
Whether they would determine it to be worthwhile is another matter.
'now may not be the best time for you to hear this, but it is about time you are told the procedure the rest of us thought of for defeating your kin. You see, the truth is that we only came here to obtain a specific potent magic item believed to be in his possession. Before we reach his lair, I and others plan to feign a betrayal of you. I can work rope around you to give the illusion that your hands are bound, while still allowing you to slip them out with ease...then we plan to offer you as a hostage to your cousin in exchange for the necessary object. Regardless of his response it might reveal where he has it hidden, or at least give us a hint as to who might have it. At that point you should be able to remove the ropes from your body, and we either fight him or snatch the prize and flee, whichever is appropriate at the time.'
Pausing, he gathered his thoughts for a moment. This was certainly an unexpected change in the Karn. "I can see no reason why you should die here...lycanthropy is curable."

Essar Kalvin |

replying through the whisper spell Essar spoke.
That should get a rise out of him my cousin did always hate me for not conforming to blood traditional doctrine... As for the curse I doubt a cure is available, the sheer power required is something that requires a priest of great experience and wisdom. Do you think a Host Priest is honestly going to give me a cure? You can call all the favors you like a Host Priest unless he were of the Karnnathi compact would not be willing to give a copper to a member of the blood let alone a cleric...

A door opens and Essar's Cousin walks in.
"Ah, I didn't know you'd be here, Essar," he says. "How do you like my new threads?"
Essar's cousin is wearing a robe in tatters, but he's a living, undead creature. Something like a Forsaken from WoW (the people of Lordaeron that succumbed to the plague but is not dead or a mindless zombie.)

Essar Kalvin |

Once a son of a Thranian Whore, always the son of a Thranian Whore. As for your over confidence cousin you have always been an idiot, have you forgotten what my unit the Bone Breakers did for the Karnathi military?
The unit that Essar served in was what the Claw termed a "clean up/reserve" unit. Occasionally the undead due to say the death of a controlling necromancer go rogue and attack the Karnathi military which isn't good. When this happens Essar's unit acted as a "cleanup" unit and they were specialized in dealing with undead and could also be called upon to act as a rear guard for retreating Karnathi armies (this was how Essar was captured). This is also the reason why Essar was an officer in the unit, unlike most Blood clerics (low levels ones at any rate) he was remarkably effective in dealing with undead.

"Yeah, I remember," he laughs like nothing else. A cackling laugh. "You broke most of my handiwork. I was one of the necromancers that worked on the Karrnathi undead forces, remember? I was there at the Battle of Haberford, and I watched you in your first assignment. Besides, my mother was not Thranian."

Essar Kalvin |

Ah cousin you forget something, the curse itself while being difficult to cure does not come into effect for quite a long time... Time enough to send you into dolurrth's arms...
Initiative1d20 ⇒ 14
With that Essar unleashed a blast of pulsing, red energy from his iron skull... positive energy damage1d6 ⇒ 2

Xov |

Xov chuckled to himself, putting on a calm appearance. Seeing that Essar was bloodthirsty as ever, he backed away from the combatants, before saying
"Well, I think I can safely assert that I am not the son of a Thranian, nor am I descendent from any Thranians. But please, there is no reason to fight...aside from your deranged cousin we have no quarrel with you. "
Even so, he prepared Ready an action to cast enlarge person to boost Othan.
Wait...something doesn't check out: the cultist just admitted to knowing Essar was bitten by a werewolf, yet he also claims not to have known he was here!

Essar Kalvin |

Yes I did...until you lost control of the undead under your command and couldn't reestablish control of them. Furthermore I may have sucked as a soldier but the men always loved me over you...you couldn't be bothered to heal them even when they would die otherwise. I by contrast was willing to heal them even when they had been set alight on a Thranian stake...

![]() |

"Because I have use for them," he said. "You knew I worked at Fort Zombie, you knew it by golly!"
He then sat down and put his feet over his knee. "Besides, I reanimate the dead," he chuckles. "That's what I do. And now, I just reanimated all, well MOST, of your former unit. Kind of nice how that turned out for me."
He snapped his fingers and two members of the Emerald Claw shows up, as zombies. All of them have Essar's unit insignia on them. "Oh, and you know? They enjoyed being turned into the walking dead."

![]() |

"ACK! HELP, SIR KELTON! HELP ME!" says the cousin of Essar as he runs away from Othan, hobbling as he went. The door opens and another Emerald Claw member walks out. Sir Kelton, Essar's commanding officer, has been turned into a Zombie.
Roll initiative.

Odd. DM says he is undead, and undead rules say not subject to NL damage. Perhaps DM missed that Othan said nonlethal? Perhaps it is due in part to the enemy straddling the line between death and undeath? Did Essar's healing burst effect him positively or negatively? Neither? Either way, Xena be damned, i cant imagine these things really being nonlethal.

![]() |

Sir Kelton's middle is split open, so Othan got a full helping of the smell that accompanies decomposing corpses. Especially rotten guts and gut flora. It just fills Othan's nose, so he must make a fortitude save or get Nauseated. He's at -2. :)

DM said he is partially undead, not necessarily undead. Dhampirs aren't immune to nonlethal damage either.
I said he's like the WoW Forsaken. He's undead, but affected by non-lethal damage. Essar's cousin screamed in pain from the chakram and Essar's positive energy blast (which, for some reason, was red).
