Table 1

Guys! Table 2 is ahead of us on role-playing their group getting together. We need to start working on ideas to bring us together too.

1. We are in Sharn currently (that's going to change as the game progesses).
2. Most of us have worked as muscle for hire, or could based on their character descriptions.
3. We have at least 2 guys (right?) with affiliations to houses: 1 to Orien, and 1 to Deneith correct?
4. I have a broker NPC in my history that could help (possibly).

What can we do with all of that so far?

A couple of Weird Possibilities:

1. We are all hired (separately) to do a milk run by a paranoid professor who mistaken believes he has brought back some important artifacts from Xendrik (Most likely worthless stuff!).

2. We are pulled into a den (with various twists of how) of illegal Monster Fights in one of Sharn's underground areas? (This could get complex however...).

3. ??

Keep in mind:

1. Not all of these ties need to be current, old ties are fine too as many of the characters are revisiting/visiting the city (or you could have met outside of the city) not everyone needs to know each other directly.

and

2. You will all meet directly when Game officially begins, I can bring those who are not connected together its my job :-)

OK,maybe I'm a tad excited to be ding this game,a nd might have been working too hard at this...

I'm sure could know Viorr from around Sharn, as he suggested.

And some of the others from the end of the war...

Oh no I love the enthusiasm!!!

Just wanted you all to know that you don't need to dot every I and cross every T for the game to start :-)

Ideas 2 and 3 are the top two that you noted above I think. And if those tie 5 out of 7 of you I can certainly do the rest!

Table I

Gauntlet, I mentioned before that we might know each other from the war. Since you mention in your history that you deliberately avoid people that you met before or during the war, being thrown together like that could create some tension that would allow a bit of character exploration, if you like.

That works for me. Gauntlet's Paranoia has pretty much defined his life up to this point. Survival and keeping away from house Cannith are his his primary concerns from day to day unfortunately.

Table 1

Well, I set Viorr off on a long walk all around the city...so just stop me when I hit something interesting.

I would guess that Viorr and Guantlet have seen each other a few times. Viorr might feel that the warforged is a bit of kindred spirit - forged (Quite literally) for greater things than this...

I believe I have now answered every open character creation question. If I missed anything please let me know.

Tomorrow I will read both threads thoroughly and start the game posts. Likely it will not be until after 10 PM eastern time as my trainer had to move my appointment to tomorrow so I won't be home till after 10. Glad to see that posting has already started and some links have been forged between players without DM intervention.

I will give it about a week of settling in before the action starts in earnest.

I generally post every other day to give people a chance to catch up and because my schedule does not allow for daily posting in all games I play in/DM.

Experience points - I don't award them in PbP games. Once you hit an appropriate benchmark you will level.

I will roll Initiative in combat and will often roll Perception checks for the group(s) as well.

FYI, this Friday and next Friday are my last two table top sessions before I go on summer hiatus so there will be no posting from me those two nights.

If you have not completed your Profile by now please try to have it done for tomorrow. Thanks.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted, or even have a completed alias, but over the last 5 days or so I have been packing up my entire childhood home where I have been living for the last 34 years as I get ready to move on to the next major stages of my life. Been rather tired and not too with it as far as reading/posting goes, but I was finally able to read about 44 or so posts in the discussion.

Will try to create my alias tonight.

Also, Erix is of House Orien, and ran supplies and such during the war.

He currently is sort of a masked vigilante at night (hence the Mysterious Avenger archetype), keeping his neighborhood/section of Sharn safe. Or at least safer.

Table 1

GOS, I'd be fine with either of those two ideas. If we want a detailed group relationship, I think I prefer the first but I'm okay with either.

Something just hit me. I have an interesting idea, but I wanna know if you guys agree that it is:

Those of us who were in the War could have been part of the same Brelish regiment/combat group. During the last days of the war we saw the writing on the wall, so to speak, and everyone still alive that was a member of the combat group promised to meet 2 years to that day in Sharn at a particular Festhall, and every 2 years after that if at all possible.

We could use something like that to bring us together? A war-brother reunion? Friends of the unit are also welcome of course. Those who died since could have their relatives or friends show up for them instead. (That should cover anybody who wants to be there who wasn't in the war.)

I was thinking calling it something like the: 655th BSTU (Brelish Special Tactics Unit) -We'd need a catch phrase and unit insignia however:

EXAMPLE: The 655th Fire-Talons: Always Ready, sWilling, and mEager! (Insignia is a Phoenix tearing apart an enemy soldier!)

Anyway, what do you think? Am I overthinking this?

Nice hook Gauntlet! :-)

Yep, I agree - the ex-military unit worked for me and two other Warforged in THIS ill fated PbP...

I will take that meeting since my father was a mercanary and could have been involved with you lot and I could have learned of it, since I might eant to talk to him lol

I like the concept, Gauntlet, but I don't think Viorr would have been a part of so organized a unit. Go for it.

Viorr wrote:

Yes,I was thinking about that, but you could have had a friend or family member in the unit, or even they might have helped saved you while you were in Droaam? We could have been the unit sent in to pull yours out? You could also be a guest of someone at the party.

OK, since the approval seems high, then I will try and write something up and post it today if I can, to get it started.

As a child of house Orien, Caelan wouldn't have been allowed to be directly involved in any nation's military; but he certainly might have been an advisor working with other national armies, such as a guard on the lightning rail or overseeing House interests in a particular nation's territory (sort of how a corporation that has business in several countries may have its own private security).

And I can piggy back off of that tonight.

As I said, I can find another way in for those who the narrative does not make as much sense for.

Getting excited to get this thing rolling tonight!

I rather like that idea Gauntlet!

Boarding my plane to fly to Dallas for the Fan Expo comic con but hopefully I can get a post up once I land in DC as I have a four hour layover.

Also Caelan, any ideas on how to tie us together? Feel free to PM me or reply here .

Most likely hook is that at some point we were both attached to the same caravan or lightning rail defensive unit.

OK Table I done!

Gonna suck it up lose some sleep and do Table II now!

Table II updated.

My table top game is tomorrow night so I will likely update again on Saturday night.

By mid-next week we will see if we can't get the action going full swing.

Viorr and Caelan:
Damn pick pockets! That cloaked figure just fleeced you both! Viorr you lose 28 GP, Caelan you lose 13 GP. Don't worry, you'll see him again...

Duly noted. Good thing the House takes care of me...

Sorry I just red this note.

1. How are you doing Hero points? You mentioned your own system?

2. What's Gauntlet's offical weight? You were going to make a ruling on the weight multiplier for the Adamantine racial trait.

EDIT: No Hurry!

Table One, as most of you have arrived at the festhal, I will give you a few days to interact with one another before I move the plot along further.

Uh yeah, I forgot to do this.

For the Adamantine racial trait let's do 2.5X body weight.

For the Hero Points rules, I will try to get to those this week, at work right now with no access to my files.

DITTO!

sorry for my lack of post- i had to rip my kitchen out very quickly (long story), and I'm out of town from wednesday to sunday. i'll do my best to keep up but please bot me as necessary.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Will update the thread tomorrow, sorry for the cliffhanger there Harpoon but even I have to sleep sometime!

My House Rules for Hero Points:

Hero Point Mechanics:

1) One permanent Hero Point may be used to avoid a final death scenario allowing a narrow cinematic escape,

2) One temporary Hero Point may be used if you are between -1 and -9 hit points to stabilize yourself to prevent further blood loss,

3) Temporary Hero Points may be expended to power Feats. These grant a lasting bonus for a one scene or one round duration depending on the feat description,

Progression system:
Level 1-10 1d6,
Level 11-20 2d6,
Level 21-?? 3d6. and

5) No more than one Hero Point may be expended per round.

I am open to whether you all would prefer the Action Point system.

Item 3 above I can expand upon assuming this format is to the groups liking.

Reminder: If you did not DOT the Gameplay Thread if you are in Group II please do so and then delete the post so you appear in the character roster. Thanks.

Awesome! Thanks for the update!

OK some questions just to be sure I get it:

1. What is the difference between Temporary Hero Points and Permanent ones?
2. Normal gain of Hero points is 1 per level, a Max of 3 with the occasional gift by the GM for an extra point here or there as determined by the GM. How do you do it?
3. Supplementing rolls... I assume this must be decided/happen as the d20 roll occurs? Or are we allowed to do it after?
4. Yes, please expand on your item #3 when you have time.

I just like this:

"Level 21-?? 3d6. and"

A: That the game may go that far
B: That the game goes that high

:)

@Gauntlet: I believe that by "permanent Hero Point" Shadow means that your maximum Hero Point allowable would be permanently reduced by one.

Carduus the Bemourned wrote:

Correct, those points do not replenish.

Ah yes replenishment a good question Gauntlet, my home system will not work here to be sure. I will therefore follow the Eberron rules:

Characters begin play with Action points equal to 4+ character level. They are replenished whenever a level is gained, or when an adventure path (usually 3-5 sessions) is completed (At DM's discretion). Action points may also be given out at the DM's discretion when a PC performs an especially heroic, epic or otherwise amazing feat. Examples include jumping off a tower to attack a fleeing wizard, even though the PC possesses no personal protection from falling damage and the Wizard can fly, or running back into a burning building to rescue an orphan, or trying to right a falling airship so it doesn't hit a halfling village only jumping off at the last minute.

Therefore, when you use a Permanent Point, a character will begin a new level with 4 + Character Level - Permanent Points spent as the story moves along.

Supplementing Rolls, I will allow for a use of a point after the initial roll though before I declare whether that roll was successful or not (in other words you would edit your post if you thought the roll was unsuccessful adding the 1d6 and announcing the use of the HP). Due to the nature of PbP it will bog the game down if I have to retcon actions for a character that choose to use a Hero/Action Point AFTER I have already described a failure in the narrative.

I'll expand on item 3 when I get home later.

I have brought my 3.5 table top games pretty high in the past. One Chronicle got to Level 36/37, another to level 24/25 which is why that rule is there. Who knows this may get there one day :-)

Update those Feats tonight, sorry passed out last night, updating the gaming threads now.

...and will NOW finish those posts. Stupid clients sending me emails when I am trying to post, the nerve!

Arcane Surge (Prerequisites - Arcane Class) (Allows wielder to increase a spell DC by 3 for 1 round by expending a Hero Point),

Attune Item (Prerequisites - A Weapon of Legacy) (Allows wielder to expend one hero point to add +3 to attack and damage for the scene with chosen item),

Defensive Ward (Prerequisites - Dodge) (Allows wielder to expend one hero point to give yourself a +3 Luck bonus to AC for the scene),

Divine Surge (Prerequisites - Divine Class) (Allows wielder to increase a spell DC by 3 for 1 round by expending a Hero Point),

Heroic Feat (Prerequisites - None) (Any saving throw successfully made 10 points above an effects DC automatically allows the character to regain 1 used Hero Point),

Heroic Grace (Prerequisite - None) (Allows wielder to expend one hero point to add +1 to all saving throws or +3 to one saving throw for one scene),

Heroic Quickness (Prerequisites - Improved Initiative) (Allows wielder to expend one hero point to add +3 to Initiative checks),

Manifesting Surge (Prerequisites - Psionic Class) (Allows wielder to increase a powers save DC by 3 for 1 round by expending a Hero Point).

So these are feats that power up our Hero points?

Question#1: Since my Character is effectively a Psionic/Arcane and can create his own weapons from pure thought, can I use either the Arcane Surge/Manifesting Surge or maybe even the Attune Item feats?

#2: A 'scene' is effectively one total combat, correct?

#3: Are these swift/immediate actions to activate?

Thanks again!

Correct, feats that Hero Points care used to power, the Eberron guide has a few as well.

1. Yes for sure though I saw you as more an Arcane caster so I would choose that feat vs the Psion feat. No for attunement, needs to be a Weapon of Legacy, though I may reconsider that position with a solid argument as to why it should be expanded...

2. Correct a scene is one total combat.

3. Yes swift activation.

No problem!

Will give the Secrets of Sharn table a little more time to check in before I move them forward. :-)

What system are you using for those of us wishing to advance in our House? The base Eberron version is a little weak, and I'm not sure it was updated to PF standards.

Erix d'Orien wrote:

I have no plans to House Rule anything related to House advancement, at least not yet.

Hey, all;
Starting Thursday, I am off to Origins. I doubt that I will have much time to post between Wednesday night and Monday morning, so bot me as needed.

I'll be around until then...

Enjoy!

Sorry for my extended silence; long story short- I kind of got screwed by my landlord on a kitchen renovation and I've been putting in crazy hours doing it myself. I'm almost done and as soon as I have time to catch up on reading I'll post again (should be no later than Friday).

No problem I have had similar Landlord woes the last few years. We will be here when you are ready, for now your character will just go with the flow, will be moving things along once I get out of the gym tonight.
