If you don't want to read everything, at least look at the things in bold. But it would be better if you just read through it all.
Hey, it only took individual texts calling people out to get everybody to make their characters! But it looks like we're all here. I said it up above, but I'll say it again—feel free to put as much information about your character as you want in the "About Me" section of your profile, but at a minimum I would like your Initiative, Perception, AC (regular, touch, and flat-footed), and Stealth.
I'm going to be posting a decent amount here right in a row giving some information on how this whole thing works, but we won't officially start until tomorrow, so people have some time to get the kinks worked out of your characters.
If you have any character building questions, it's probably both easier and faster to just text me.

The characters and players we have are:
Pharetram, a half-elf Fighter (archer), played by Grant.
Nya, a kitsune Rogue, played by Emily.
Maqej, a ifrit Sorcerer with the Elemental (fire) bloodline, played by Kevin.
Timur Lenk, an (I think) alchemist of a yet-to-be-disclosed race, played by Nick.
Aleithea (is that like the Spanish pronunciation of Alicia?), a human Cleric of Saranrae, played by Elizabeth.
Batorsag, a Fighter of a yet-to-be-disclosed race, played by Adam.
Another thing people can start doing in this thread is shedding a little light on the strengths, weaknesses, and abilities of your characters. What can you do? What do you do poorly? What do you need from other people, or what can you offer others? I'm going to assume that the group of characters in-game have done some planning and will be strategic about how they approach things, so this is your chance to do that.

Please read this whole section, it's important.
"But how does this whole play-by-post thing work, exactly?" everyone asked.
This is already way too much effort, thought Kevin as he tried to read through all of Eric's posts.
"It's really not that hard," Eric began, trying to convince his friends that this might actually be fun. "For starters, the directions on how to format text are below the box where you type in your post. You should use bold when your character is talking out loud, like I'm doing right now, but still use quotation marks. Both of these things serve to set it off better, so it's more easily readable."
"When you want to describe an action, but not in game terms, use just regular text. I'll give a full example below."
"When you want to talk in game terms, use the out of combat feature. It turns the text blue, and lets us know that you're going to be describing your actions in D&D lingo."
Way, WAY too complicated, Kevin thought, yawning and pulling out his iPhone to play one of the thousands of games on it.
"Dice rolls are done for you. You just use the dice function, typing in what type of die to roll and your modifier, using the dice feature. So if you want an attack roll, and your bonus is +3, you'd type dice in brackets (to start the dice feature, and it explains below), then 1d20+3, and then /dice in brackets, and it will make the roll for you. You can see what it looks like in the example below.
"Finally, if you want to have in-character thoughts (which can be really good for showing the motivation for your character), use italics, and if you want to type something that is only for myself or another character to see, use the Spoiler feature."
"Here's an example of what a post might look like."
----------------------------
"Let me see what I can find, and I'll report back," Nya says to the group.
Nya sneaks around the corner, keeping an eye out for traps, or worse.
Please don't let me be seen, please don't let me be seen.
Move to L3.
Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Trapfinding Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Stealth 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

GM Espri |

Just a few last things.
When in combat, please do the following:
Start with you status. Something like HP: 9/9 (any conditions you might have—sickened, fatigued, etc.)
Then describe your actions in non-game terms. For those who don't like being particularly creative (*cough*Kevin*cough), this doesn't have to be long. Just saying something like, "Maqej mutters a few words and a jet of colors shoots from his hand toward the goblin."
Then, using the out of combat formatting, describe your actions in game.
Move action: 5-foot step to L3
Standard action: Cast Color Spray

Timur Lenk |

'This is b#%&@%!~. Eric gave us D&D homework,' Nick mutters to one in particular. Not that there's anyone around to hear him. His house is empty. He is alone. 'Additionally, it's b++#$&~# that I can't make a custom avatar image. Literally every person's life would be better if my in game persona were represented by this.'
With the attention to detail of a third-world child-laborer, Nick finishes his profile, supplying the bare minimum of information Eric required. 'I'll flesh out the about me section at a later date,' Nick lies to himself.
Move action:fill in online forms
Standard action: drink beer

Pharetram-Grant |

Nick your post was awesome.
Also per Eric's request here is some info about how I will be utilizing my character: I will be shooting arrows, ideally from 30ft away since I can add my INT mod to damage when I'm within 30ft. So ya pretty much what you would expect from an archer. At second level I will take a level as Witch so I will have some spell casting ability but I will pretty much reserve that for casting reduce person on myself. I will have the healing hex so I will be able to heal everyone 1d8+1 once per day (again that is not until we are second level)

Aleithea del Sol |

You guys are hilarious. I had to have Cole read Nick's post it was so funny.
Mr. DM man, you should know where Aleithea comes from. I'm pretty sure I stole it from a Greek word. Could be wrong - I came up with it years ago for a different character.
As far as my character...
I tried to build her as an all-around asset. I focused on healing and tanking for the most part. I don't do spectacular damage, but I should be able to hold the line. My biggest weakness is that I took a low charisma in order to get everything else higher (Eric will attest to how rarely this happens), so I don't have very many channels each day. I took the feat to increase it, but still not impressive. I am not great at range. Definitely a melee fighter.

I feel like I should put out a disclaimer that I'm not as amusing as some and my character will probably never say much out loud.
My character:
- I'm a rogue - I've got a bunch of skills
- I can turn into a fox-like creature
- I'm not much for combat, but I'll fight in my natural form most likely
- Most of my character sheet is in my About section
"Roll the dice to see if I'm getting drunk?"
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
I wish I could write a conditional based on my die roll
In case you've been living under a rock:
8 bit D&D

See the new post in the gameplay thread for some information about equipment. Also, we can start posting in there in character—let's say that you are now making the journey to the entrance to Dragon's Delve. If you want to do the Knowledge (local) or the Diplomacy like I explained in the other thread, we can assume this is information you gathered the night before in town.

Pharetram-Grant |

If I get information in a spoiler and I want to share it with the group, is that something I should add to the gameplay thread or should I use this discussion page? Also do you want me to retell what I learned or can I just tell people it is okay to look at my spoiler? I'm imagining that communication between characters in game should be gameplay thread but figured I would let you clarify.

Timur Lenk |

Texted Adam. Since I share an office I feel awkward posting from school. More because of the appearance of slacking than the D&D aspect.
Also, everyone is going to have a general idea of how well my day is going based on the quality/length of my posts. I'm not sure how I feel about that. (If you can't tell by today's post, I'm having a pretty good day. Tim Burton's Batman is on IFC and I have the free time to watch it. I turned it on just in time to hear Prince sing 'Trust'.)

GM Espri |

Alright, so in the gameplay thread, you have reached the entrance and descended the first set of stairs. So we can start actually playing over there. Let's keep talk of tactics, hilarious side conversations, and making fun of Adam in this thread. And try not to do too many things without allowing others to do so, unless I am specifically continuing to give you information. So yeah, let's get it going.

Pharetram-Grant |

Ya even though we have this whole map visible I am assuming I didn't know about a big blue square thing in the other room, and seriously I have been yelled at before because I took the right door even though we knew that both doors led to the same place. So yep I went left. I do feel that with this dungeon though there will probably be times that a direction other than left looks like the better choice and we will take that then, but when all we know is that there are multiple choices and don't know anything else, left it is

Pharetram-Grant |

I suppose other people can read this but I think it will only make sense to Eric and I am practicing my formating
