Ah, you misunderstand. There is a difference between chaotic and evil. We are supposed to be a team bound to a common cause - an evil common cause, but a common cause nonetheless. If we were chaotic and only cared for ourselves, then the Judge would definitely leave you here to rot. But, if he has the ability to get you out in one piece, he will. After all, what is more lawful evil than creating situation which puts someone in a situation where they owe me. That is what LE devil worship is all about, I do something for you and in return, you give me your soul.
Edmin Al'Roth
That is also why Edmin is debating the up and out. If it is hopeless he will leave you but if he beleives he can make it he will give it a shot.
Bref
Oh Bref is all for it! But the player would hate to see a TPK on Bref's account!
Jax Naismith
Actually next round, Grumble is still in doorway. Jax can dely. Morsum can toss bref corpse down ladder to Jax, jax takes full round action to run?

He will be sad to have lost the knife and shiv, which he had in his hands. But at least he keeps his chef hat and rolling pin!!
Douglas Muir 406
I'm going to assume that everyone's action is "run as far and as fast as possible", with the exception of Bref and Morsum and (maybe) Jax.
The causeway is 150' long before it enters the checkpoint. At the end of this round you'll be spread out as follows:
Grumblejack 140 (160' move, he was 20' inside the gate)
Zimu 120
Judge 90 (to not weaken Morsum)
Sir Edmin 80 (he was in the other room, and also it's 10' to climb through the window)
Jax 80 (assuming he runs; see below)
Actually next round, Grumble is still in doorway. Jax can dely. Morsum can toss bref corpse down ladder to Jax, jax takes full round action to run?
Here's the problem: there's no way to throw Bref down from this level, because there are no windows -- just arrowslits. There's a ladder up to the next level, but it'll take you a around to get up there. That means Jax would have to hang around for a full round waiting. This would probably subject him to multiple attacks from the guards. I'm guessing he doesn't want to do that, but I'll await confirmation.
(You could try stuffing Bref down through a murder hole, but that's much the same problem -- you can't do it until next round. And even if you succeed, that just puts him in the entryway, which is about to be flooded with enemy guards.)
Edmin Al'Roth
How about arrow slits to the out side from the winch room covering the causeway? Morty could drop the gate then shove Bref out.
Judge Tohram Quasangi
Ignoring the excellent attempts at metagaming, Morsum is going to smash the device holding the gate and cause it to drop the second that the Judge tells him the last of Jax, Edmin or Grumblejack are through. Sooner if any guards make it through before any of these three. If there is something that can be dropped on the trap door, like say part of the machinery or the dead guard, or even better, if the trapdoor can be barred, Morsum will do this. Then he is going to grab Bref and head up to the next level hoping it is the roof and he can climb down.
Worse case scenario for Morsum, he gets killed/banished and does not rescue Bref - who the rest of you all decided was a good party member to desert anyway.
Bref
you could also hide bref until he comes to again, and see if I cant sneak my way out.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
That is a stabalization for Bref whenever the time comes.
Bref
if bref survives this he is going to be more unhinged. I might have to alter my plan and next level he takes barbarian

As much fun as the mostly insane Bref is, remember that we are supposed to be of a LE bent. Chaotic barbarian goblin's might have a tough time agreeing to some things.
Bref
bref is chaotic, as pointed out by DMDM a while back. Pooing on everything made that decision.
I had resisted that since I felt that he believes in an order to things, being might makes right, and is loyal to his friends, once he makes them. But he does act chaotically.
If you want to toss him over the side now, I will only cry a little
lol

We have quite a few thread trolls. I got a couple of PM's commiserating the almost death of Bref.
A tribute to you DMDM, the rest of you as well of course.
Judge Tohram Quasangi
Sorry I spoiled the funeral. I was planning on sacrificing Morsum and running, but you forced me to change tactics. I figured that Morsum would drop the gate and then go downstairs to shred a few guards before being banished. At least that was the original intention before you went at tried to become a martyr.

Well to hear Bref tell it, he only went down after he slew 59 guards. He was like the rabbit from the Holy Grail

Grab special attack d20+7
CLOMP
Massive jaws slam shut on the lower half of Zimu's body. Damage: d6+6 Zimu is at 1 hp and is grappled.
This is the first thing I read when I opened the page, not seeing the other posts yet, I thought we were still in the checkpoint and I triggered a trap.
Cуровую зиму
Thanks for the save guys! If we rest for the night we can get spells back right? How much hp would we get back?
Note to self - Bref is vulnerable to the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.
Who isn't?
:)
Douglas Muir 406
First, congratulations to everyone on surviving Part One. Backslaps and terrorist fist-bumps all around.
Second, level up! [ding!] You are now second level. If you are simply going to progress in your current class, then just roll your new HD here and tell us what you're doing (skill ranks, new spells or feats, etc.). If you want to multiclass, pause -- we'll discuss.
Douglas Muir 406
Third, this seems like a good time to pause and take stock. Are you guys having a good time so far? You'll recall that this is my first PVP; how are you finding it? Too fast, too slow, too wordy, not wordy enough, good, bad, this, that -- feedback is very welcome at this point. I'd like to know what you like and what you don't, how it's gone well and what could go better.
So level up, tell me what you think, and then let's see about your next steps along... THE WAY OF THE WICKED.

So far, I am having a great time. I will level up tomorrow when I have more time - it is midnight and I should get to bed now. I will be leveling in Summoner.
Will also try to compose a critique in the morning, but other than occasionally missing your posts due to a lack of an avatar, everything is great so far, especially the regular posting by all players. The fewest posts is by Jax with 165, but that is 165 in 27 days which is 5.5 per day, WAY above what is common in any other campaign I am in.
At this point, I give the campaign two thumbs up across the board and look forward to where this goes from here. I like your DMing style and really like the character development - except for Bref who has really been lacking for the past few days ever since he took that little knock to the side of his head from the second story guard.
Edmin Al'Roth
One word. AWESOME.
So far this campaign has been the best one I have PbPed. The tempo is great, I cant wait to wake up in the mornings and check on what is going on.
I will look at leveling later, but plan on Cavalier as of now.
Question, are we taking half HP, strait roll, or best of?
Bref
So far I am enjoying it. Bref would like to take a level in Feral Gnasher Barbarian, then back to rogue after that
Edit rolling HP
1d12 ⇒ 12 if allowed to barbarian
1d8 ⇒ 1 if not

Douglas, its been a lot of fun. This is only my 2nd php and I have been very lucky with my GMs and fellow players. The game rocks, and I very much like your style.
You are very fair with the rules, and keep us on our toes. Just when I think we have a minute to catch our breath you slip in the next problem to overcome. There are times I fell you really WANT to kill us. That's not a completely bad thing.
:)
The speed of the game is great, I wish I did not have real commitments on the times I miss parts of the game.
Your npcs, major and minor feel very real. Your description of the world and its nuances add variety and color that help immerse me in the experience.
I love the added touches you do that help make me feel that you have thought everything out fully, be it the guards loyalties to the make of a sword to comments you make when you run the other players.
Great job, GMs like you make playing a true pleasure.
My requests -
1. Keep doing what you are doing, really!
2. Maps. I thought I was the only one having difficulty. And its not confusing most of the time, only when there are several on each side of combat.
3. Please stop rolling so high! Really. Dice love you.
4. Lets get another player here who can cast cures please!

Hp 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 1 = 8 includes Co and favored class
I am definitely putting a point in Bluff and Sense Motive, call it a hunch but I think we will be using them a lot.
I am putting point in Knowledge Planes because our resident scholar is still beneath Brandascar.
I think I may be the first to have leveled up, I think I am mostly done.
Jax Naismith
I think you've been doing great. The game moves along quickly and often during times when I'm unable to post (nights and weekends are usually somewhat busy for me) but that doesn't bother me at all.
1d8 ⇒ 4
Skills: [5 points]
Know: Dungeon
Know: Plans
Bluff
Linguistics
UMD
+1 fort, will
+6 hp
+1 bab
+Spellstrike
+1 lv 0 spell, +1 lv 1 spell per day
+2 lv 1 spells learned (spellbook)
Cimu, since at the moment we're sharing a spellbook, and in the future will likely be exchanging spells, we should make sure we pick up different spells every level. I'm thinking of Chill Touch and Shield or Mirrostrike.
The current spellbook has:
1 - Alarm, Mage Armor, Clarion Call, Color Spray, Magic Aura, Magic Missile, Mount, Shield
2 - Bull's Strength, Flaming Sphere, Hypnotic Pattern, Minor Image, Mirror Image, Summon Monster II
We can add shocking grasp from the scroll plus the spells we're getting this level.

Hello everyone...GM Doug has been kind enough to extend me an invite to join your team, which I quickly accepted!
I have been following along enjoying your fast paced story. I hope to continue to do the team justice. I am in the process of leveling up, updating my background, and getting ready to join in on the fun in the PBP thread.
Dren is the character joining you, he has healing abilities of an oracle plus plenty of interesting fire support abilities I think you will find useful. He is also a back up stealth and disguise character. Looking forward to it!

2nd level dice 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 1 = 10
A couple of questions:
1. I assume I have no equipment or should I have some basic stuff or should I have some GP in equipment? Let me know, I am okay with whatever you think.
2. I updated his background, basically she saved me from being captured told me little but said I should join these people coming to the house. Let me know if it is good with you?
3. He is updated to 2nd level, no big suprises, feel free to comment though.
Bref
I do agree that on the complex combats a map could be useful. I am in another game where he just uses a excel spreadsheet on google drive and that is not pretty but it is effective.
As to why Barbarian. That archetype is focused on biting. Nuff said. I think it gives Bref some more survivability. I had wanted to go that route for a while, later on. But with Bref almost getting killed I think that causes him to snap a little bit. He is very angry about getting beaten. Plus the exhaustion, plus the torture etc. Assuming that I can select the feat Extra Rage powers without actually having being a level 2 Barbarian I will probably never take another level in it, barring something else game wise that makes me want to change my plan.
I also think he would be happy sharing his new teeth with Morsum.
Also having seen my HP rolls there, I think it is obvious! :)
Bref
Bref wants to learn Necril from Morsum. I will put a rank in linguitics, though of course Bref cannot read. I would play it that it takes a while to actually be able to really speak it of course.
Thoughts?
Judge Tohram Quasangi
Works for me. Of course it is not the most useful language in the world, it just happens to be one that fit very well with Tohram's background.
Also, you are trying to learn from something with a 7 intelligence, so it might be a bit of a slow process. You might be better to put the rank into something else this level and use one of your Rogue skill points in a few levels when you and Morsum have had more time to talk and work together.
HP: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Bref
hmm good point, I will start to play it, and perhaps by the time we level again
And it is completely useless, just something Bref would want to do.
