Rolls:

4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 1, 2) = 10
3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 6) = 15
3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 6) = 14
3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3) = 10

So that would be: 9, 15, 12, 12, 14, 10

I can work with that!

Dot. I originally built Tessa for an AoW game a few years back, and wouldn't mind dusting her off.

Since we're not forced to use the dice rolls if they're abysmal - and after running the numbers, 4d6k3 + 5 3d6 is very inferior to 15 PB - but who knows what could happen. Roll them bones, GM!

The dice gods hate me when I roll stats myself. Perhaps they'll be kinder if someone else rolls in my place - I'll have a go as well :-)

So... you said it's going to be a darker game, right? I'm going to take my -13 point buy and build an aasimar oracle. His mother was a human prostitute. His father was an aasimar adventurer- a severe man who was fiercely proud of his celestial heritage; when he learned that my mother was pregnant he decided she didn't deserve a child of his line so he came back and beat her until she seemed to miscarry. Miraculously I survived but as a result of the traumatic and dangerously early birth I've always been clumsy and very dim witted. My best friend is a horse who looks after me as much as I look after him. More details to follow (unless you object to anything ive said so far).

Especially that bit about the horse literally had me laughing out loud. Love it.

Haha! :-D

I hope you are recruited for the game. Even in the rather likely event that my submission won't be selected I'd love to read a darker game involving that PC.

Hmmmm, that hunger for a new campaign is stirring as others start to steady their pace.....

Roll for me if you would. Let's have the dice determine what I interpret from the player's guide :)

Cuchulainn here.

I would like to submit for consideration The Magician, Zomeraand.

Please let me know if I need to add anything. Thanks for considering me for this adventure!

Appearance: Zomeraand is an average-sized man of medium build with weathered skin, dark brown eyes and nearly black hair. His hands and fingers are calloused and ink stained. He wears an amulet of polished bronze with a translucent, sky blue sapphire in its center. He carries his pack of gear with a comfort born of long practice and a body accustomed to the weight.

Personality:

Zomeraand is a man consumed by his pursuit of arcane knowledge, and has neither the time nor the inclination to engage in diversions, however pleasurable. He often comes across as rude on first meeting, as he fails to find any value in customary greetings or friendly banter. He often speaks to himself in a muttering undertone whenever he is pondering a weighty question. When he speaks, he is generally stoic and analytical. On the occasions he does express emotion, it is usually annoyance.

Background:

When he was a small child, Zomeraand was found wandering through the rows of tomes and scrolls in the Great Library of Greyhawk. He pestered every sage and scholar he encountered with questions about what they were reading, why they were reading it, and what they were going to read about next. Extensive efforts were made to find the boys parents, but to no avail. He was taken to an orphanage run by the church of Pelor, but he would make his way back to the Great Library time and time again, sneaking in through any open door or window he could find. The curators tired of walking him back across the city, and decided instead to encourage his inquisitive nature by teaching him to read and answering his never-ending sorties of questions about each of their favorite disciplines.

When he was fourteen, he was apprenticed to an aging, semi-retired adventurer-wizard known as Lurexo. The old man had long lost his sense of discipline and taught magic in a manner at odds with the years of research, study, and empiricism that defined Zomeraand's childhood. Despite Lurexo's sloppy methods, which were punctuated by profanity-laced tirades and long afternoon naps, Zomeraand managed to distill the fundamentals of spell-casting and develop sufficient fluency in the art to be able to begin learning spells on his own.

Lurexo's personal library of dusty, mouldering tomes became a mine of knowledge that Zomeraand excavated at every opportunity. He painstakingly copied each spell into his own personal spellbook, and spent the rest of the afternoon practicing it until he could cast it correctly.

This all came to an end one day when Lurexo spent several hours lecturing Zomeraand on the burning hands spell, and the tricky nature of its casting only to be interrupted by Zomeraand sending a fan of flame out of his outstretched palms, narrowly missing the old man's hat. "I know that one," he replied matter-of-factly. "Let me choose a spell for you to teach me."

Incensed by the young upstart's impertinence, Lurexo unleashed a stream of obscenities rivaled only by pirates and prostitutes that ended only when Zomeraand, personal affects in hand, was shoved bodily through the doorway of old man's tower.

Since then, Zomeraand has been on his own; traveling from town to town, looking for anything to further his own learning. Each abandoned ruin, cache of scrolls, and ancient obelisk feeding his desire to know more.

Oops. You are correct.

Electricjokecascade, please roll for me, then and I will change my stats accordingly.

This is the alias I (Nate) am using. It'll seem confusing right now because I'm in the process of converting it from a different concept to this one. I have a question though...

Are you using background skills (from Pathfinder Unchained) at all?

edit: everything not pertaining to this character has been erased from the profile (there's still a fair bit to add though).

To be clear, Zalorra is my submission for this campaign

Exactly 15 point buy then, not bad.

I'll probably be going for a female fighter. Got a descent enough idea for a background story which should be ready either this evening or tomorrow evening, depending on how cooperative the girls and wife are. Have a feeling my wife will enact her own dark and gritty story if I'm still writing on the 24th :-D

Looks like the 15-point buy default, then, for me.

I'll make the adjustments.

Ok. Here again is my submission with stats modified to 15-point buy.

Y'know what? It's easy to find a spot for a dwarf geokineticist. This game screams prostitute. ;) I'm working on Ilaine Soviina, a newer attraction at the Emporium, and one of the few who's found herself a part of both the Emporium's interests. The Gallery of Science proclaims the intricately swirling birthmarks covering most of her body a sign of the influence of strange eldritch magics on her birth, and the smooth, sensual lines of birthmarks and body both prove to incite a fair amount of interest in the Veiled Corridor's wares. This suits her fine - in fact, it's her chosen profession. Having been raised in Calistria's faith by her uncle and his elven wife, she finds celebration of carnal desires one of life's greatest virtues...and ensuring that everyone receives the wages of their wrongdoings a close second.

Mechanically, she'll be a kapenia dancer/hexcrafter magus fighting with a bladed scarf. Instead of the crit-fishing shocking grasp route the magus usually takes, she'll actually go more for debuffing - after all, it's far more satisfying to humiliate your opponent than to simply send them quickly and quietly to death's embrace. She'll make good use of the hexcrafter's curse spells and hexes, as well as putting some investment into using Intimidate to demoralize. (I'm not even close to done yet - there's much more work to do. I just wanted to get her name in.)

Question: Will you allow the trait Blade of Mercy? It's a Sarenite religious trait, but I like the idea of her preferring to fight to subdue rather than kill, and being able to deal nonlethal damage easily fits right along with that. It also couples well with the Enforcer feat, which I intend to take.

More questions as I get into character creation, because I'm that sort of person. :) You said you were minimizing Greyhawk influence, at least where gods were concerned; does that mean you're moving to the Golarion setting completely? It'll change how I describe Ilaine - she's Baklunish or Varisian depending on which ethnicities we're using, and I'm looking at incorporating the Golarion zodiac into her birth tattoos, which only works if she was actually born under the Golarion zodiac. ;) Also, is Lore (Calistria) an appropriate choice for a background skill, or is it not narrow enough a focus for Lore? She doesn't have a broad knowledge of faiths or the divine, but she does have background in her own particular faith, and I wanted a way to represent that.

A general note to all interested: I'm pleased to have already seen a number of quality submissions/character ideas. I'm going to refrain from making general comments on submissions, but will continue to answer specific questions.

In general, however, please know that I will tend to favor characters who are tied into the Diamond Lake setting; generic characters that could be dropped into any game will hold less appeal that someone that clearly would have some investment in the setting, or who might give me IC ties to work with (or work against the PC, as it were *grin*)

Rennaivx: I will allow Blade of Mercy. Works for me, and isn't too huge a smudge of the rules.

In regards to the setting location, I'm going to be picking a location in Golarion, but honestly that location won't have much affect on the game. We're running with Golarion gods, and thus the Golarion zodiac totally works ;) I'll also rule that Lore Calistria works fine - it's just the one goddess, so I'm fine with that. Cheers!

In that vein, I have re-written Zomeraand's backstory to make him a local of Diamond Lake. I have chosen different skills and traits that better fit that story. Please let me know if there is anything that I need to change or add.

Why not. I recently got an idea for a character, so hoping to get him into a game somewhere. Gobling Silver Champion Paladin

You may roll for me GM =^^=

My initial thoughts for my stats were either:

Breaker barbarian
Maneuver master monk
Cad fighter

Do they all seem like viable options for the DL setting?

Actually, not too shibby-shabby.

Sure. In theory all of them could work, but the devil in this case really is in the details. It's what you do with each concept that will determine if they're they right fit.

Whew, holidays got busy! I'm working on my magus now - I should have something fairly cohesive by end of day.

All right, I think I'm there! She's shifted a little bit - I decided that, rather than her birth name, she'll play under her stage name, Ilaine Starlight. I may make tweaks from here, but the idea of the character is there. (I am toying with changing her race from human to azata-blooded aasimar, mostly for story. I'll let you know if I do - all the changes would be stat-related, not story-related.)

Travel, holidays, and a wicked cold have knocked me onto my heels, but I'm back and will be answering questions as they come from hereon out. Thanks for the submissions thus far - as I said, I'll refrain from making commentary - but know that I'm looking them over and will soon be asking any questions I might have about builds/backgrounds as needed.

Sad to see you go, Seth86!

Hello everyone, and to one and all, a happy new year!

We're in the final stretch of this recruitment drive. I've received a couple of excellent submissions, and indications of interest from a half dozen more. There are six days left before I close this recruitment down, and I'd encourage folks to get their PC's in as quickly as possible.

Diamond Lake, as sordid and dreary as it is, replete with its awful secrets and petty tragedies, awaits you. Don't miss out!

C'mon people - ignominious adventure awaits! :)

Any word on the status of recruitment? The suspense is killing me!

"Diamond Lake kills us all in the end."

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

Hey guys, my apologies for the radio silence. The combination of life getting really hectic and the dearth of interest on this recruitment thread has kept me from responding sooner, but as you can probably guess from the lack of applicants it doesn't look like we have enough people with which to run this game.

I received three excellent submissions, but that's it. I'm not sure what I did wrong in terms of recruitment - perhaps I should have posted more to ensure greater visibility? But either way I'm afraid this game isn't going to work out. I might try recruiting again at a later date to see if I get more interest, but as is, I'm going to have to thank you for your creativity and interest, and apologize for this not getting off the ground.
