Arcalinte is surprised when Ted grants him invisibility.

"Thank you, Ted," he says as they make their way to the Plague Warden's entrance.

Once they're in safety, he rests against the wall to center himself and spend an RP to regain Stamina. He listens to the words of the others and nods.

"Spectre's right. The elves DO bar everyone but half-elves and gnomes from Sovyrian, but Ukulam is home to no one but wild animals now. I don't think our sniper is a native."

He looks at the murals and nods at Ted's assessment.

"You're right. It does seem that this is a depiction of a ritual performed here. Knowing ancient places like this, performing the rite, while it most likely won't mollify the sniper, will let us pass other wards the builders of this place may have put in place. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to get more in touch with my elven side."

He checks the mural to see if there's any Elven writing he might be able to read, like there was on the Rune Obelisk.

Solaria, Spectre and Isu keep vigilant watch over the stairs but don't see or hear anyone approaching. With the steepness of the stairs, its hard to tell what might lie beyond.

Meanwhile, Arc checks over the murals, but the only ancient elven text he finds are tiny markings next to the various constellations on the ceiling. Taken alone, they don't seem to mean anything, however...

Physical Science DC16 studying the ceiling (anyone can roll, not just Arc):
The ceiling is particularly dense with marked constellations. You quickly realize that many of these constellations are known to modern scholars only thanks to advanced telescopes and faster than light travel. The fact that they're listed here in this ancient mural suggests that the Oatian elves that lived where must have had extraordinary astronomical equipment for their level of development. That or they had supernatural techniques for surveying the sky in an extreme level of detail.

This statue's probably a rocket ship and our sniper a poor lost interstellar soul. Ha!" He finishes his awkward bathing, "Spec, the factory make you water proof?"

"I am water-resistant, but not water-proof," he says.

Once the others have rested, he says "We should continue up these stairs."

Arcalinte dismisses his solar armor, the curved "wings" sliding down in a circle and disappearing into the back, the limbs sliding into the chestplate, which in turn slides up into the helmet, which lifts off Arcalinte's head and shifts back into a mote.

After this, he removes his physical armor and disrobes, and uses the water to bathe himself, attempting to follow the mural's instructions to ensure he's performing the ritual in a respectful way.

“Shed light, act true, embody good, give charitably, shun intolerance, know patience, expose lies, and redeem evil,” he chants reverently.

The mote rotates around his head as he bathes, illuminating his form from different angles, revealing his physique and his new scars.

When he finishes, he puts his clothes back on and dons his armor.

"I'm ready, I think. And I think Isu's right. Most likely this sniper is one of Tahomen's associates, left behind to stop us or at least slow us down."

Then he raises an eyebrow at Ted's statement.

"Care to elaborate on that hypothesis?" he says, sarcasm evident in his voice.

Looks like Ted, Solaria and Arc bathed in the (probably lead filled) water.

Just as Spectre suggests that the group should advance up the stairs, you all hear an audible hissing sound- more steam escaping than a snake- coming from the room at the top of the staircase. Before you can head up to investigate, a pair of grenades come bouncing down the stairs at you. With a final bounce over your heads and into the room proper, they explode with a blast of shrapnel!

I've revealed the whole room at the top of the stairs. Note that the stairs are difficult terrain. Moving from Solaria's square to the square I've marked in yellow requires 30ft of movement (unless you have a way to avoid the difficult terrain).

Open this up when you get to the top of the stairs:
The walls in this long gallery depict elves using needles to tattoo one another with constellations, geometric designs, and strange runic patterns. Rows of tall stone benches line either side of the hall. Carved along the ceiling are twelve stylized elven figures, heavily tattooed, adorned in different ways, and marked with starbursts on their foreheads.

Four humans in ragged heavy armor adorned in bones kneel behind the stone benches, using them for cover. They're holding large, snub-nosed rifles and have jagged longswords affixed to their hips.

Arcalinte grabs his mote and pulls it onto his head like a helmet, and his solar armor reforms out of it. Then he draws his curve blade and leads the way up the stairs. When he sees their enemies, he takes cover behind a block and calls down to the others.

"Our sniper's got friends! Four of them!"

The cultists in the back draw and toss grenades into the center of your group. These two grenades spin for a moment between Ted and Arc, and then explode with a blast of electrical energy! While Sydney, Isu and Spectre have some cover from the blast, only Solaria is completely clear.

Ted sends a wave of magic missiles out at the cultist to the south-west:

After some quick inspiration from Solaria, Isu steps in and lands a pair of solid blows on the exposed cultist. The fellow has a surprisingly ecstatic grin as he collapses to the ground. (Arc doesn't have a clear charge lane anymore for his stellar rush, so I'll hold off on your action. Feel free to take two turns instead.)

Spectre lands a frosty beam on the cultist to the south-east, and Sydney fries the cultist right in front of her with a quick shot from her arc pistol.

The cultist next to Isu swings twice with his longsword, striking once against Isu's armor, and then landing a deadly swing. His longsword cuts deep into one of Isu's arms (dealing 15 slashing damage from a crit.) The jagged longsword tears loose and leaves a horrible bleeding wound. (Critical effect bleed deals 4 damage immediately at the start of Isu's turn. You can end it with any HP healing or a DC15 medicine check.)

The cultist screams out "Devourer consumes!" and holds his bloody longsword aloft.

The two remaining cultists approach the group and deliver shotgun blasts from their rifles. While they aim at Isu and Sydney, Isu's armor protects him from the blast of shrapnel, leaving only Sydney to suffer from the hail of fire. (Dealing 7 total points of piercing damage)

Arcalinte, seeing the man he was about to attack fall and Isu get nearly killed, steps out of cover and holds up his curve blade. With a hissing pop, it becomes sheathed in roiling plasma.

She tosses her pistol skyward and the weapon flips seven times in the air before she catches it in her outstretched hand, five feet behind where she initially started. (See map.) Sydney squeezes the trigger, aiming at the yellow cultist.

The operative stomps her foot and voices an emphatic "f^@%" when she realizes her shot is only a hair less sloppy than her previous one.

Isu delivers a terrible blow of his sparking hammer, almost knocking out the cultist to his south in a single blow. Thankfully, Sarenrae's mercy seals up his bleeding wounds. Sydney's flipping trick shot ends with her firing a laser bolt into the yellow cultist's face, sending him tumbling to the ground. And the pink cultist looks up with anger at Solaria's pistol as she raises it into the air.

Ted and Spectre unleash a wave of force and frost attacks that overwhelm the last two cultists. The two collapse, bleeding and covered in ice. Both sport insane grins frozen on their faces as they die.

And since I last described it in a spoiler: The walls in this long gallery depict elves using needles to tattoo one another with constellations, geometric designs, and strange runic patterns. Rows of tall stone benches line either side of the hall. Carved along the ceiling are twelve stylized elven figures, heavily tattooed, adorned in different ways, and marked with starbursts on their foreheads.

With all four cultists dealt with, you're able to slowly catch your breath. And as you do, Isu, Sydney and Spectre begin to feel a strange sense of vertigo - as though the walls, ceiling and floor of the room are constantly shifting in and out. The sensation even manifests as error-laden environmental analysis in Spectre's circuits. You're able to steady yourselves against objects and people in your vicinity, and eventually the vertigo largely abates.

You all turn to look for the source of the shot, and spot an iridescent green shirren just around the corner of the hall up ahead. Only Ted doesn't have line of sight right now. They raise the smoking barrel of their sniper rifle and make a quick hand signal to someone out of sight. This slight delay gives your team the moment they needed to jump into action!

Luckily, initiative was on your side, everyone gets to go before the enemies. On the other hand...

With the sudden surge of adrenaline as combat starts again, a new wave of vertigo washes over Isu, Sydney and Spectre. (They are flatfooted this round)

Though dizzy, Sydney spots the legs of another cultist up the stairs at the far end of the hall. Or is that two sets of legs? This are a little wobbly right now. The sniper doesn't respond, simply readying to attack once more.

"Arc, ever notice everyone attacks you first?" Ted snatches his top from where it is was hiding behind his head and blows on it like a balloon. It grows in size and takes on a floating characteristic. He lobs it out towards the bug creature. It floats past and detonates blowing out a bank of blinding fog.

"Anyone for a grenade party?"

Fog cloud: 20' radius
The fog obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature within 5 feet has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance) against its attacker. Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker can’t use sight to locate the target) against their attackers.

The idea is to put the bad guys in the fog and lob grenades in on them or ready actions when they come out of the cloud. Ted steps out so as to get the cloud as far down the hall as possible while keeping the bug alien in the burst.

nice spell, Ted! I tried to draw on an approx 20 ft radius box on the map so we have an idea where the fog is.

Isu has two grenades in his inventory. He pulls one out and moves to cover. He holds his artillery laser in one hand, unusable as such but he doesn't drop it.

In Pathfinder you can move and draw in a move action. Allowable here? If so, he throws the grenade to the back of the room, not trying to hit the enemy, just land it in a square nearby

@Isu: Yep, grenades count as a weapon in Starfinder so you can draw them as part of a move action. Like any exploding weapon, grenades target a grid intersection rather than a creature. In this case I'm going to assume a beneficial grid intersection, but mark the intersection you're targeting next time.
Also, make sure to give me the save DC for the grenade when you throw one: DC=10 + 1/2 item level + DEX. There's also a minus 2 DC penalty for every 20ft range increment. In this case that lowers your DC from 11 to 9.

Ted's top creates a dense fog, hiding both sides of this fight from each other. (Added a dark shaded area in Roll20 to represent) Isu's grenade sails through the air and bursts inside the fog to the surprised grunts of a pair of cultists and an irritated clicking from the shirren. None of the three emerge from the fog however.

After a moment's pause, a suppressed rifle shot echoes out from inside the fog and a bullet streaks out - striking Sydney squarely in the chest! (Dealing 16 points of damage from a crit!) The two cultists follow by throwing their own grenades back at your team. One grenade sails through the air and lands between Arc, Isu and Sydney. The second is terribly fumbled and doesn't even escape the fog, though the blast still catches Sydney.

Mass saves:
Isu Reflex; cover: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 4 = 20
Arc Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Sydney's Reflex is too high and she has evasion so the grenades can't hurt her.
1 point of electric damage for Isu and Arc.

Another wave of vertigo washes over Spectre, Isu and Sydney. They're 1d2 ⇒ 1 flatfooted again this round as the room spins.
