Dain's Kingmaker Campaign: Provinces - Arasmes

Game Master dain120475

This thread is dedicated to the province of Arasmes.

So - you've decided to build a barony! And just in time - so; here's what I'll need...

1. A listing of your Council Members - rules for that in email tonight.

2. Where you want to put your barony formally - and the land you'll clear to make it happen.

Whoops - my bad - you told me! :)

Your plan is to spend 10 BP to clear land - namely, the swamps by the volcano - and the volcano hills. Your capital will formally be "on the island" - but for "In game purposes" - but for "Technical details" - it would be on the hex called - roughly - J4 - which puts you on the ruins. But - for story purposes - we'll say it is on the island.

Remember - that is one small island, though - but it could work, if you are prepared to heavily re-work things.

Finally - as you may no doubt guess - there is a bonus via "ruins" on the volcanic Island.

You'll find out what it is - once you dot the thread!

el dotto

You find the following ruins:

1. House - (in the form of a tenement).
2. 1 Library, back where you found the apes (but the library and notes are still of value).
3. You guessed it - the ruins of a Caster's Tower are still there.

Good luck!

Sounds good. I am working on what I am going to have for my city now. I am torn between going right off with the casters tower or building up a bunch of the little pieces first. I think I may go straight with the casters tower but not definite yet.

Still working out my council.

Good times - hope to see something soon.

Remember - when it comes to recruitment from new folk - the early bird gets the worm.

- A worm - what the hell kind of incentive is THAT!

Female Changeling - Osirion Cleric 4/Oracle 3

Dotting. :)

Ok I'm going to bed but I will officially be starting off with a Caster's Tower and two hexes and that puts me done with bp at the start. I have my council pretty much statted out though I would like to see what if anything you came up with regarding those positions I asked about and also who I might approach about recruitment. The only ones I can think of off hand are the gold kobolds, the yuan-ti, and Adjt but he has been approached and I dont want to step on Ariarh's toes.

As far as the Yuan-ti go, are there any that would be appropriate to approach? Same with the Gold Kobolds. I'm having trouble keeping track of all the NPC's.

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

If you want Adjt for your barony, you can ask him if it's for an official council position? Ry has someone already in mind for Magister ... (confusion b/w me and GM) ...

Please remind me on the specific positions - if you would.

So far, as per your request - I have the following:

1. A half-giant Magistrar
2. Desert-Halfling as your Diplomat
3. A Yuan-ti abomination as your High Priest
4. A goblin as your General...

heh heh - no, not at all...

But I do need the positions you're looking for - when I get them, we'll go from there. Meanwhile - currently going over changes to new playable races. Looks pretty good so far...

You are approached by two applicants – one of them is a Golden Kobold – who whishes to serve with you. He is a warrior with excellent skills – and though he is not as soldiery as some – he has a natural grace and charisma to him that speaks well on him.

The other is of the Yuan-ti – extremely gifted in lore and cunning, he is eager to aid you, if you’ll have him on your staff, and believes he can council you well…

As you chose last in the pick, both of these are level 3, however – neither of them have any gear or goods. All of it must be provided by you.

The golden kobold’s name is Naga. He is cousin to Taedo and Akiko – and is eager to join with you. He is older then them, but suffers from a minor birth defect which causes many of his kindred to distrust him – they feel that birth defects are a mark from the gods that show their disfavor. Even so – it has gifted him with a remarkable sense of insight and generosity with folk. He is learned in many things, and is eager to help you – and is, moreover – a gifted swordsmen; despite his defect.

The Yuan-ti’s name is Soggoth – a name of ill-repute, you feel – for something about it seems somehow dark and mysterious, and it vaguely reminds you of lore of ancient gods before gods…

Even so – he is not an evil creature – at least; you sense no taint of evil in him. He may have mysterious ways – but he is committed to your cause – and will serve you honorably and never break his word, or his faith, to you – if you’ll have him…

He is not a good fighter – but knows many things, and is very cunning. If you take him – he will be happy to join with your cause.

Greetings Naga. It is a pleasure to meet you. Tell me at little about yourself. The great city of Calignis will be happy to have you should you wish to call her home.

To Soggoth Well met Soggoth. The gods are aligned to bring us together it seems. he says with a smile. The great city of Calignis will be a land of wonder and knowledge. I seek someone whom can make sure the will of those that choose to call it home is heard. Do you believe you can be successful at such a task should the duty fall to you?

Naga Diplomacy 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31

Soggoth Diplomacy 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (4) + 17 = 21

”Greetings, lord – I am Soichi-noh-Nobu-noh-Naga,” he says with a low bow before you, his hand instinctively moving as if to rest on a sword hilt, which he clearly does not posses.

”I am of the Soichi line, our leader being Satoru-sama – whom is with your folk already. Yet he gave orders that we are to disperse among the people of this nation – seek honorable masters, and ally ourselves with them – should they have us…”

”It is said you seek a leader of soldiers and men – I can fight, and I fight well – but perhaps not as ell as others, given how my leg was twisted at childbirth – a sign the gods have cursed me, some have said.”

”Even so – I do what I can, and have done my best to study, to read, to listen and to watch – I therefore put my full strength into following my lord – even unto death – and do what I can to aid that lord.”

”I have never formally followed a master before – and if it is my duty to follow you – know that I would do so until my death – for what is our purpose as warriors? I was taught the axiom: duty, discipline and death are all that a warrior needs, and all that they must possess. If I am granted the chance to serve, I shall be yours to command,” he adds with another bow.

The Yuan-ti moves to you with cool eyes which dart past you, watching you – studying you, and the surroundings, ever observant – ever intent.

”So… you are the one from the realms beyond realms?” he says softly – and with no preamble.

”This is a good thing – for it does my heat good to see folk that have the capacity to match wits with title. After all – what matter of beings are we – if we cannot reason with our fellows, eh?” he adds, a sly smile on his lips.

”Still – you would have council in your position – yet who better then one of my own folk? We know the ways of the island you would claim – the mysteries it may hold – and many others. I have a few tricks, nothing like yours – master… but, if you’ll take me – surely what skills I have to offer can be useful to you, I’d gather… If I stood by you – my hand would be ready to protect you – even as my cunning remained as well; ever ready, ever eager… if you would have me?” he adds, watching your face.

”Still – what of it… Take me or not – yet; if you do – I do not think you shall be disappointed…” he adds, bowing before you, even as his eyes lift to stare at you – watching your face, eager to see how you react, and what your decision would be in choosing him.

So Soichi turns to Naga and grins a little

"So - how do you think you did?"

"Hard to tell - these interviews can be a real pain - still the worst part isn't the interview - it's the frackin' callback!"

"Oh, I know,"Soichi retorts "Is there some sort of reason they can't just give you a straight answer - or is it part of some Dickension Mind Game just to torture us?"

"Heh - our folk know all about Mind Games - but even we don't stoop so low..." Naga retorts with a grin, albeit nervous - as he too wants to know answers - and soon!

Still - they keep on waiting - hoping for a response... wondering when it will happen - and praying that it will be quick!

To Soichi Arasmes smiles at Soichi and says I have been told that I was cursed by the gods for being born into this body...but I say that the gods have given me an opportunity for greater growth and honor due to the challenges that it presents. I would say the same thing for your leg, for even as it makes it more difficult for the body, it seems you have sharpened your mind. It is true that I seek someone to oversee soldiers in my new city and I seek one of honor that will know when to fight but also and perhaps more importantly...when not to. If you think that you can be such a person I would have you gladly. The city I seek to build will be a haven of knowledge and study. All mysteries will be sought there and I hope to build it into a bastion of knowledge renowned the world over.

To Naga Arasmes looks at Naga for a moment before saying I think I will take you, Naga. I have need of those with a keen mind for the founding of this new city and I feel that you will do well there. It will be a haven of knowledge and learning. A place where we will teach any who wish to learn for we will also teach the proper application of said knowledge. Thank you for coming to me as I think this will be a relationship that will benefit us both.

Naga – of the Soichi line

”My thanks, lord – I am honored. I shall serve you best with the three principles of all of my people’s warriors. Ah – those principles, lord? But of course! They are these: a warrior must always show his give to his lord these three things - Duty, Discipline and Death. For our people – there can be no other calling greater then that. I shall not fail you in that respect, lord,” he answers proudly, and bows low before you.

Soggoth – the Yuan-ti

”A wise choice… massster…. I will be a very good councilor for you – I will give you much help. With me by you – you need not fear enemies – for I can aid you in mind and body – and should any attempt threat to you, they will die. Even so – all that I have in wisdom and lore shall be yours for your choice to take me on… In that – you need not fear…” he adds with a bow of his head.

Sheets for both coming soon...

Human Tattooed Sorcerer (Orc Bloodline) 4 (Init +3 / F +1 R +2 W +2 / Perc. +0 / AC 12 / HP 16 / CMD 10)

Here is Arasmes upcoming Cohort.

Durvin Shepard, named for the famed Pathfinder Durvin Gest, the pathfinder who explored Old Azlant and destroyed the legendary Lens of Galundari. Born in the famed city of Quantium in Nex, he has traveled widely looking for new lands and new opportunities for study and learning.

Will have more in the coming days.

As soon as I get the sheets for Naga and Soichi I can put up the whole council as they are all done.

Cool - have to write them up - they're pretty much statted out.

I will be giving you their basic stuff and let you fill them in as you see fit.

It may take another day or so - just overwhelmed with tons of stuff right now...

But they will be coming :)

Oh yeah - I figure he'll be joining you sometime during the year of "Downtime" - however - this is turning out to be a little more eventful then I expected for "casual downtime".

Oh yeah - good times :)

Oh - one other thing - Durvin looks pretty good, not entirely sure on his list of equipment. But we can talk more about that soon - you do technically have a whole year of "Down Time" for him to come join you... so no technical rush, here.

Private message me with any issues regarding equipment but he is built completely legally. As for the "no rush", that might be true but I would definitely like to see him sooner rather than later.

Council introductions: Just doing a quick blurb on each one to get the juices flowing so to speak.

Councilor: Sogoth: No need to introduce as yuns already dun it lol.

General: Soichi: See Sogoth

Grand Diplomat: Flinder Persimmonic: Gnome Court Bard: Flinder is a man of many words who makes short stories long and long stories...well longer. He can sing, plays the lute and harp, and could talk for the Praxian International Talking Team. He is from the great city of Absalom, travelling to spread tales of heroes young and old. He finds his way to the fledgling city of Calignis through hearing it is based in an active volcano and what a story that will make!

High Priest: Reelex Mok: Tengu Cleric of Nethys the god of Magic: Reelex is charged with seeing to the magical well being of all those whom pursue the magical arts. A city with a purpose in magic and learning, drew him like a moth to a flame. He believes Nethys guided him to Calignis in order to help sustain magical knowledge.

Warden: Mellok Ironhand: Dwarven Shielded Fighter: A grizzled guard, Mellok doesnt distrust magic like most of his kin. He has seen magic turn the tide of battle on too many occasions. Calignis's proximity to the mountain volcano is what drew him in the first place but has decided to stay due to his respect for those whom have chosen to come.

Treasurer: Linalin Xios: Elven Mindchemist Alchemist: A true student of the mind and its workings, Linalin came to Calignis in order to study an enclave of magic users working in proximity to each other. She is hoping to unlock the mysteries of why some people have a natural propensity for arcane magic and others do not.

Marshal (Brillik - Goblin Master of Many Styles/Qingong Monk) & Spymaster (Krillik - Goblin Knife Master Rogue): Brillik and Krillik are identical twin goblins who came to Calignis looking for work. Deciding they might have a better chance with a reformed tiefling running the city than other places, the goblins have adopted Calignis as their home once realizing they would not be looked down on and marginalized but given positions of worth. They argue all the time with Brillik trying to instill responsibility into Krillik and Krillik trying to get Brillik to remove the abnormally large stick from his backside.

Magister: Shabaz ibn'Diaz: Human Wizard: A long ago acquaintance of Arasmes, Shabaz is the son of a well to do merchant who was trying to force Shabaz into taking over the dull albeit lucrative family business selling rugs. Possessing a keen mind, Shabaz fled and studied in a school of magic in Quantium before hearing a rumor that a nation was being formed in the north of the River Kingdoms. Deciding to make a fresh start he journeyed here and was surprised when he finds that Arasmes ibn'Fayad was building a city based upon the ideals of responsible use of magical power. They had met a few times during Arasmes business dealings with his master's Pesh shipments.

Excellent. I will be putting up Naga soon - just working on the details.

Meanwhile - though this won't matter much now - Naga and Soggoth will bring the following to your town - You are able to build/use these things, thanks to your inclusion of them in your community.

Bathhouse: This is a building that was constructed – and created in Tian Xi. It is fashionable as a place where a person may receive massage, mild healing, and a place to relax.

Bonuses: +1 Stability, +1 Loyalty, -1 to unrest. The building makes your citizens happy, and eager to enjoy themselves. Unlocks the Skill Synergy Bonus Yojimbo.

Cost: 8 BP – may be built anywhere. 1x1 squares.

Dojo: This is a military training ground for your troops. It can provide them with suitable discipline to focus and fight better as a company.

Bonus: +3 to “Defense Modifier” for Barony/City - +1 for National Level if your troops are used outside of your immediate lands. +1 to Stability, -2 Unrest. Unlocks the Soichi Sword Style Bonus Feat.

Cost: 8 BP – can be built anywhere. 1x1 squares.

Senet House: This “house” is actually a place where people gather to play the game called “Senet” – a game brought north from Osiriani and Khatepesh. Not unlike a small casino or bar – a Senet House is a place where citizens come to drink cold beer, and play the game of chance Senet – sometimes also playing other minor games of chance. Often exotic tobacco is smoked, sometimes Pesh – but not necessarily. Generally – Senet Houses are like “pool halls” of the modern world. They can be a fun place for entertainment – or very seedy – depending on the cliental.

Bonuses: +2 Loyalty, +2 Economy, +2 Unrest. City base value +250 GP. A fun place – good for money making ventures and keeping people loyal to you over cold mugs of beer – but not always a safe place.

Cost: 6 BP – can be built anywhere. 1x1 squares.

Zen Garden: Another innovation from Tian Xi – the “Zen Garden” is like a shrine or park – but it allows the citizens the opportunity to think deep thoughts without distraction – or issues of dogma.

Bonuses: +1 Loyalty, -2 Unrest. A place that centers the mind, and quiets the stress of the community.

Cost: 6 BP – can be built anywhere. Requires – Library. 1x1 squares.

Awesome thanks!
