Inside a meeting room at the Pathfinder Society headquarters Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin stands at the end of a long table. To either side of him stand Lady Gloriana Morilla and Major Colson Maldris.

“Thank you for coming, Pathfinders,” Valsin says, gesturing
for everyone to sit, though he remains standing. “As you may have heard, we recently discovered the location of a lost dwarven Sky Citadel. I won’t demean your intelligence by stating the significance of this discovery, but suffice it to say the potential rewards for exploring the site are staggering.” He turns to face a map of the Inner Sea on the wall and pokes a location with a loud thump. “Unfortunately, the Sky Citadel is located within what was once Sarkoris—the demon-infested region now known as the Worldwound. After a long debate and careful planning, we began to recruit military aid to push into the demon-haunted land so we could reach the site; however, before we could make any significant gains, Mendev’s wardstones—a collection of minor artifacts designed to keep the demons from pouring out of the Worldwound—began to inexplicably fail. In short, there’s a hole in the dam and demons are trickling into Mendev in greater numbers. With Mendev under this new assault, we realize that in order to reach the Sky Citadel, we must aid the Fifth Crusade and help turn back the demons.

“Since the nations of the Inner Sea are not reacting expediently to the danger presented by the newly invigorated Worldwound, a small cadre of concerned Pathfinders— including Trade Prince Aakir al’Hakam, Paracountess Zarta Dralneen, the Sapphire Sage Amenopheus, Lady Gloriana Morilla, and Major Colson Maldris—have united to leverage their influence. With my support, they plan to petition the Grand Council of Absalom and persuade them to issue an executive order to send soldiers to Mendev immediately.

“To increase our chances for success, we called in a favor from the Blakros family, who remain grateful to the Society for recently saving the marriage of Michellia Blakros and the Hellknight Damien Kastner. The newlyweds have organized a dinner party with an impressive guest list to be held at Fiddlemourn Manor. Lady Morilla and Major Maldris will attend, and they plan to use the feast as an opportunity to convince some of Absalom’s elite to support the upcoming motion. We need you to mingle with several important guests and befriend them so that they are more disposed to throw their support behind the Fifth Crusade. These special guests include Senator Augustyn Naran of Andoran, Lady Vaelia Wintermark of Taldor, Lady Dyrianna of House Avenstar, Scion Lord Kerkis of House Damaq, Lord Rothos of House Vastille, Lady Darchana of House Madinani, and Dremdhet Salhar,

security, we want you to attend in your full adventuring regalia to help solidify your role as representatives of the Pathfinder Society and lend credibility to any claims you make regarding your knowledge of the Worldwound and the worldwide threat it signifies. We also expect you to provide additional security if it’s needed.” Valsin levels his solemn gaze on everyone at the table. “Remember, this is a social gathering. It’s crucial that we make a good impression on the guests, win their support, and improve the Society’s standing with them. Without their support, our motion to the Grand Council is doomed to failure.”

Riley Tralgador's always been considered an odd one. Hailing from Taldor originally, his very first mission for the Pathfinder Society was to compile a primer on basic swordsmanship techniques. He promptly decided that, while he was familiar with Avistani and Garundi schools of thought, he hadn't experienced any fights with the Tien.

He promptly got on a ship to go pick a few.

When he came back, he was (mostly) affecting the mannerisms of a samurai, a habit that continues to this day. Although he isn't fooling anyone. Hence, when ordered to show up in his Sunday best, a kimono is the choice he makes, although his sword is at his hip in a fine sheath. He wears his hair loose and down to his shoulders, somewhat sun-bleached from long hours of practice outdoors.

"I believe that this can be done," is all he says.

Magora whispers a curse on all that falsely believe in the death of Aroden, and her clothing becomes clean, in good repair, and fitting for an evening affair.

"This should be sufficient," she says in a monotone voice.

Magora will try to recall what she can of each of the listed guests.

"A social gathering, unh? Well, good thing they picked me then!"

The response comes from a very large, rotund Tiefling, his dark red skin swelling to unnatural proportions. His face is covered in patches of blonde hair that don't quite connect to each other. His robes are adorned with patterns that represent drops of blood cascading down the length of the outfit. His girth obviously impedes his mobility, causing him to follow behind everyone in a slow waddle.

After the briefing, Tyr turns to the others, specifically Magora, and asks, "So, any of yous know anything about these folk?"

Ajax knelt down and calmly petted the black puma covered in leather armor. He was still getting used to the animal. The dark-skinned Gaurandi man had long white hair tucked behind his hood. He carried a bow, longsword, buckler, and a well made haversack.

"Another Blakros family get together? I'm hurt they didn't send me a specific invitation. I was at the wedding and might have had something to do with the wedding taking place as planned..." Ajax smiles inwardly and then tries to see if he can recall anything about the others.

If we are in Absalom, Ajax gets +1 on INT/CHR checks and +1 Guidance bonus from his Wayfinder. I also get +4 versus humans for K (Local) checks in identifying them from Favored Enemy.I don't know which ones are human (including half-elves/orcs) so I'll just add the +4 to all roles

Kyra nods. "Seems straightforward enough; mingle with the nobles, impress them with stories of our heroics, convince them to support the crusade, keep an eye out for trouble. Should be doable."

She thinks for a moment. "Dilettantes being dilettantes, some of them are likely to be fishing for what they hope are juicy rumors or secrets. I don't suppose there's anything that's about to be declassified shortly anyway that we could offer them?"

Magora tells the group what she can remember of the intended guests. See Above

"Lord Rothose and Lady Darchana seem like obvious candiates to join our cause."

"Grand Ambassador Dremdhet Salhar, while not liking the Pathfinders, should be able to see the wisdom of a combined force against the Worldwound."

"Senator Augustyn Naran of Andoran will be of no use to us,"
she says with a look of disgust on her face.

"The rest I do not know enough about to say one way or the other."

"Uck, yeah, I'm with you about the Sir Andoran fellow. Who needs them, er, I mean him?"

Lady Dyrianna of House Avenstar
Lady Dyrianna has business connections with
powerful people in Cheliax and Qadira, and she is also on
friendly terms with many of Absalom’s elven families. She
employs numerous courtesans and prostitutes that have the
ear of countless wealthy and influential citizens. In fact, Lady
Dyrianna attends the feast with a handsome young human
courtesan and bodyguard named Faelyn (CG male half-elf
expert 2/warrior 2), who’s smart enough to remain quiet
and respectful.

Scion Lord of Kerkis of House Damaq
Scion Lord Kerkis is
the patriarch of the very
wealthy and influential
House Damaq. He is
also Lord Exchequer
of the Absalom Mint, so
he practically controls the
economy of Absalom. He also
has ties to many wealthy and
influential families in Qadira. The
Pathfinder Society needs gold to
fund this effort, and a word of support
from Lord Kerkis would open the
pocketbooks of many wealthy patrons. He
attends the feast with a beautiful young Keleshite woman
named Chesele (N female human aristocrat 2), one of Lady
Dyrianna’s finest courtesans.

All others are the same as Magora above.

Kyra looks dubiously at Magora and Tyr. "You're certain? I admit I don't know much about him but he seems to have a great deal of influence in the military..."

In turn, Ajax shares what he knows about Lady Dyrianna and Scion Lord of Kerkis.

"It seems that if we can persuade these two, our mission will be a resounding success. If Dyrianna can be converted, we might be able to use her courtesan, Chesele, to ply Lord Kerkis as well.

We should decide who should start the discussions with each and who should assist. What magic can we prepare for the cause? Kyra, do you have any spells that can improve the persuasiveness of others or yourself?"

Kyra frowns as she ponders Ajax' request. "I can entreat the Dawnflower to bestow some of Her grace upon you, but Her favor would last only for a few minutes at most and I do not think casting spells in plain sight during the ball would be very appreciated..."

Sorting through the cleric spell list, Eagle's Splendor lasts one minute per level (so 7 minutes), Prayer lasts one round per caster level. I don't think either of those is a viable option for the ball, but I haven't played a caster in a long time and if anyone can think of a spell that /would/ help that I'm overlooking, I'd appreciate suggestions.

Edit: thought of something.

She considers some more, then looks to Magora. "Alternately, I can ask the Dawnflower's wisdom to guide us in how we might best approach Ambassador Salhar and convince him to listen to his rational intellect rather than his dislike of us."

Divination is a level 4 cleric spell, yielding "a useful piece of advice in reply to a question concerning a specific goal, event or activity that is to occur within one week" link. I figure "what would be the most effective approach to convince Ambassador Salhar to aid our cause?" is specific enough, but DM's call...

Tyr pulls at his robes, straigtening it out as it gets bunched around his large belly.

"I can talk to these folks. I've always been told that I've got a way with people."

"I have some training in the art of diplomacy myself, but it may be best to let our religious woman do the bulk of the talking." Riley states quietly.

Magora thinks a momment and says, "I have heard of a spell that has the ability to Honey the words of the speaker. I should be able to cast the spell from a scroll, but a potion would be easier. With the party tomorrow night, I can purchase a couple in the mean time."

I am thinking of Honeyed Tongue. As a second level bard spell, it would be UMD Scroll DC 24 (200gp), UMD Wand DC 20 (6000gp) or Potion (400gp), each use would be 40minute duration.

She looks over to Kyra and continues, "Asking the gods for assistance always seems like a good plan."

"Sorry, I'm late. My eagle companion, Mousebane, took far too long to find us decent breakfast. My name is Adaxis, and I specialize in tracking and exploring forgotten places, especially a place like the Sky Citadel. Glad to meet you all."

Adaxis carries an adamantine longhammer and wears little protection in the form of armor except for black dragonhide leather. His hands are claws and his facial features are birdlike, hooked nose, squinty eyes with a red mowhawk. He smells like 3 day old garage and badly in need of a bath.

Adaxis please use bold text to indicate when you are speaking.

Your group makes it's preparations and arrives at the Fiddlemourn Manor an hour before sundown, when you arrive, you meet Damien and Michellia Blakross, Major Maldris, and Lady Morilla. Damien Blakros introduces you to a gnome by the name of Tespren, captain of the Blakros guard as well as a lager number of guards and servants. Tespren escorts you around the manor and grounds giving you a good lay of the land. The gnome is friendly and polite, but single-minded and dedicated when it comes to his job. He takes his position very seriously and has served as a loyal retainer of the Blakros family for nearly 20 years.

You have about an hour before the other guests arrive.

One the trip over, Ajax spends the time talking with this fellow Pathfinders, associated himself with their skills, their magic, and their favorite combat tactics. Ajax also makes it clear he's great at reading people particularly humans,

"If you think someone is lying, or hiding something, let me know and I'll see if I can figure it out. But I suspect some of these guests will use magic to mask their true feelings. We'll need to be on the lookout for arcana in use."

Ajax wants everyone to know what everyone can do to improve the teammwork in combat or out of it. I hate it when the guy with the lowest Charisma insists on making all the diplomacy roles.

"Greetings Lady Blakros. I hope your sister is doing well? How long will the wedding last, if you don't mind my asking?"

Is there any tie in for characters who completed the Blakros Matrimony?

Magora has changed into her Courtier's clothes and has altered her appearance (face, hair, bosom, and belt pouch) with her Disguise Hex and put on her new Ascendance Day Cloak.

I am assuming we can use the new boon during this game. And it will help make the connection between Iomedae and the Worldwound.

As they approach the reception she will give the 3 potions of Honeyed Tongue to Kyra, as she believes Kyra is the best suited with her Diplomacy skills.

She explains, "Kyra and I can go around a corner, and I will cast the scroll on Kyra when the guests start to arrive, that gives her 40 minutes to talk with them. After that time drinking a single potion for an additional 40 minutes. That will give her just over 2 and a half hours."

Magora continues, "If I can stay near one of you men as your escort," she says with a grimace "I can cast Detect Magic as needed, or even a See Invisibility if someone suspects something."

I am going to roll my UMD for the scroll now (dc24), as I don't see Magora doing any other preparations. 6 seconds per try.

Timeskip - prior to the ball:
Kyra spends some time in repose before the altar in the Dawnflower's temple, quietly meditating and praying for Sarenrae's guidance. Keeping the name and image of Ambassador Salhar clear in her mind she beseeches her patron deity to show her the path that will lead him to look favorably on their request.

Cast: Divination, L4 spell. I'll get up a list of currently prepared spells when I get home.

Timeskip - at the ball

Kyra exchanges polite greetings with Blakros and thanks him once again for his assistance, then accompanies the guard captain as he shows them around the place, showing sincere interest in the nature of his tasks and what he has to say.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

Ajax, impressed with Magora's plan of action, quickly responds. "Magora, I would be happy to accompany you. You can do the talking and I'll chime in to help persuade those who might be uncertain."

Ajax joins Kyra and the guard captain as they tour the manor and Ajax makes note of anything of interest. When the captain speaks, Ajax focuses on the man for signs of deception or duplicity.

Daway, I'll assume the manor counts as Urban terrain with regards to the Favored Terrain Bonus. Ajax will Take 10 = 22 on Perception to glance about the room for anything that might seem relevant in case a fight breaks out. On the captain, Ajax will T10 on Sense Motive = 21, or a 25 if he's human/half-elven/half-orc

After which he revisits with Magora and Kyra,

"So given our complete knowledge of the guests, what is our strategy and what part should each of us play?"

"I can do many things well, but dinner parties are one of the reasons I left my clan to pursue the untamed wilderness. Even though I attended the Blakros Matrimony, I was hidden in the shadows as often as possible. At the very least I will bathe and dust off my nobles outfit, but don't expect me to talk unless you want trouble." Adaxis joins Kyra, Ajax and the guard captain on the tour and looks for good climbing or hiding places on the manors exterior.

Augustyn Naran, not much use.

Lady Vaelia, I don't recall a River Jalrune or Border Wood near the Worldwound, so may not have a tactical advantage. Kn Geography: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Lady Dyrianna, as an half-elf with ties to elven families in Absolom, she may also have ties to the Elves in Kyonin. A war with the Worldwound and the Witchbole against the Elves may be an in. A Elf may be the best to approach her. Plus.

Lord Rothose, doesn't seems to be a socialite. His position with the city, may indicate he is a man of action. May be able to approach on is sense of duty and honor. One of our military types my want to speak with him. Plus.

Lord Kerkis, is where the money is. All military action needs the logistic support. Approach him after Lady Dyrianna. Would have been nice if we had a priest of Abadar with us. Plus, Plus.

Lady Darachana, another loner like Lord Rothose. She also hold great postions within the city, could approach her also out of loyalty to Absolom. Plus

Dremdhet Salhar, not sure other that straight diplomacy with this one. He must come to see the benifit of joining forces against the Worldwound. Plus.

Putting her thoughts in order Magora suggest the following,
"I am open to other suggestions, but these are my thoughts."

"Of Senator Naran and Lady Vaelia, I see no sense in approaching them, I believe them to be a waste of time and effort."

"Lady Dyrianna, may be persauded out of loyalty to Kyonin and thier families in Absolom. I can attempt to speak with her."

"Lord Rothose, seems to be a man of action, loyalty and honor based on my knownledge. I think someone with a miltary background and a sense of honor, may be able to make grounds with him," she looks at Riley and his dueling swords.

"Lady Darachana, seems very similar to Lord Rothose. Maybe speaking with her on magics of the Worldwound and what would happen if they came to bear on Absolom would sway her also," turns to face Tyr and gives him a wink.

"Ambassador Salhar. I am not sure how to swing him to the cause. If he can be convinced of the befits of a combined force against the Worldwound he will probably lend his support. I would suggest Kyra start with him."

"And that leaves Lord Kerkis. This is a person we need for the money. I am not sure how to approach him yet."

"All in all, we need to keep our ears open and keep each other informed of our progress and discoveries. I wish I has prepared a Message spell or two today."

Sorry for the long post. I am not sure how our diplomacy actions will be run in this game, so this plan of actions may not even be correct.

Ajax nods in agreement with Magora's suggestions. Social gatherings were not his favorite, but he was quite comfortable indoors and had a keen eye and intuition when it came to humans. Plus the ranger was able to improvise and was not afraid to attempt any task given to him, though he preferred letting an expert be the expert.

"Adaxis, what are your thoughts on security? I must have missed you at the Blakros wedding, but we all know how that turned out. My life as a Pathfinder has taught me that no task ends without some conflict."

Just giving you another day to work out the kinks in your plan. The guests will arrive about this time tomorrow IRL

"I was thinking of climbing the rooftops and keeping a close eye on any potential intruders. Of course, I would need permission from the captain. Perhaps one of our lovely female companions could make the request. I have an elixir of hiding that lasts an hour and sunset is coming soon. If I see anything suspicious, I'll send Mousebane through the window squawking up a storm. Of course, something happens inside without my knowledge, I won't be much help to ya. Beefing up security is a great idea, Ajax."

Tyr smiles back at Magora. "Lady Darachana, got it. Sounds like my type of woman. Consider it done."

Daway, how long does Michella say the reception will last?

Riley gives a little bow. "Lord Rothose. Understood M'lady, I will attempt to consult with him." The only changes that have been made to his attire that is visible at first is the replacement of his hakama with one that has considerably less wear, and a very nice looking scabbard with etched gold dragons for his sword. It's only on a second look that one might realize the Tian robe is pure silk with a simple leaf pattern woven into it.

I will post a general outline tonight. When I have access to my computer.

6:00: The PCs arrive 1 hour before sundown so they can
meet the staff and tour the manor.
7:00: The guests arrive at sundown.
7:30–9:00: The guests enjoy a sumptuous and hearty
feast consisting of four courses. A flurry of well-trained
servants sees to the guests’ every need.
9:00: Genedair of Iomedae, venerable hero of the
Mendevian Crusades, is the feast’s special guest speaker,
and he talks at length about the crusades. As the guests
are served dessert and more drinks, Genedair shares his
personal experiences fighting demons and finishes with
several short tales of heroic men and women who gave their
lives fighting the terrors of the Abyss.
9:30: The guests retire to the salon (area 4) for more drinks
and conversation, as they enjoy the music of a string quartet
from the White Grotto.

Right now we are still in the 6 o'clock hour.

@DaWay: Nothing additional for Magora. Not enough time to change spell selection at this point, so no Message spell.

I'd like to know the outcome of that Divination spell so Kyra can keep that guidance in mind when she talks to the Ambassador.

Sorry, it's been a week from almost literal hell so I haven't been able to post as much as I'd have liked.

@Kyra: Will you ask the captain of the guard permission on Adaxis's behalf to take watch on the rooftops after the guest speaker finishes and before the White Grotto begins to play? I will not be helpful in social gatherings and am weary of an ambush.

@DaWay: Did I find any good climbing or hiding places outside the manor during the tour?

Adaxis wears a cloak of displacement and will drink his elixir of hiding before climbing the rooftops from a balcony approximately at 9:30 pm if given permission by the captain and if the evening is uneventful. Mousebane will follow him. I will take 10 on each check.

Climb = 29 including +4 favored urban terrain bonus.
Stealth = 36 including +4 favored urban terrain bonus.

Tyr will wander the halls and look for anything delicious to eat.

Ajax approaches Kyra and Magora again,

"While the Andoran may not be helpful to our end goal, I have been asked to determine his true intentions. My tongue is not the smoothest so I may entreat you to aid me in my efforts at some point. If there is anything you would ask of me, I will be happy to return the favor."

Adaxis, above the stable seems to be the only vantage point that is not on the house.

Moving on...
You have been given some mingling time as each of the guests are annouced as they arrive. Everyone is allowed one influence check on the guests mentioned earlier at this time.

A few questions:

1. Are there mechanics suggested besides straight Diplomacy rolls similar to the Blakros Matrimony?

2. Normally people at a party might be Indifferent. As this is a social gathering is it safe to assume that is the starting attitude?

We will have a dialogue. I just want the rolls to guide how the conversation is going to go. THere are also two rounds per hour I just want one at a time as not to get too overwhelmed.
