Tobbs' misses his claw strike, causing him to fall flat on the cobblestones.
Note - Tobbs will have to roll Dexterity DC 15 like everyone else on a critical miss - since he can't really drop his claws, it'll interrupt any other attacks.
The two esobok are killed by the your attacks, and the woman is still dying in the square.
Dwalindor the Pahmet
|
Dwalindor drops out of rage and picks up his lucern hammer before heading over to the woman.
"She gonna make it, Calin? Once you get her movin, i could use a tap as well."
Rameth the Delver
Rameth pulls out a wand and hits Dwalindor

"Thanks Boss. That helps a little. Seems like Calin may need more help.
Dwalindor will take a knee and try to help Calin and Rameth.
Assist with T10-Heal for 16
Calin Tinderfoot
Calin takes 10 on the heal check. Which gives him an 18 plus whatever bonuses from Rameth and Dwalindor.
"The wand didn't seem to bring her around; although, it should keep her from bleeding out. I'll see what else I can do for her."
Rameth, how many hits does this wand have?
DMummy
Calin is able to stabilize the woman, who remains unconscious.
The people in the square gather around you and thank you repeatedly for your help. They take the woman to a home to help her recover and allow you to continue to the Grand Mausoleum.
When you arrive a knock-down drag-out argument is occurring on the steps of the temple. A tall, well built warrior is arguing with a priestess you recognize as Sebti the Crocodile.
Sbeti yells at the man, We will not summon the esobok into the city, there will be no way to control them!
The man looks a her with exasperation.
The situation is barely contained in the living city, but using these adventurers in a disgrace! This city was founded by great families, and we should use all of our own resources. Even if a few people are caught up in the issue we'll control the undead.
Ptemnib is trying to calm them down when he sees you. He hurries over and takes you aside.
We have a serious problem - there appears to be a group of undead trying to break out of the Necropolis. I need you to go the gates to help.
Rameth the Delver
Can I punch that jackass in the nose if we do it?
Dwalindor the Pahmet
|
"I am ready to smash them. Which gate did you say? . "
DMummy
Ptemnib looks very grave when he hears Albus's statement.
Let us hope that is the case - if the situation has become so dire the goddess herself has loosed the esobok we are all not long for this world.
Making a warding sign against evil he moves back to the argument which you realize is long-running.
Meanwhile you head through the city towards the gate you eventually come to massive bronze gates bound in sandstone guarded by a young woman and several nervous-looking guards.
The gate itself seems to be holding, but it's being pounded on relentlessly by a group of undead. Small, barred slits in the wall show you at least a hundred undead, a collection of ghouls, zombies and skeletons are amassed there, trying to enter the city proper.
The young woman looks at you in exasperation.
Finally, the reinforcements! Where are my supplies?
Rameth the Delver
Rameth peaks out. What the hells? Anything we can rig up to collapse on them?
then when she speaks What supplies are you talking about?
engineering 1d20 + 3 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (13) + 3 - 1 + (4) = 19
DMummy
Rameth, the inspection you give it tell you the door is safe enough - unless there's an undead giant in there somewhere - but you don't see anything in the area that you could successfully dump on the zombies.
For one thing the area around the wall is kept scrupulously clean on both sides rather than create any sort of easy access to or from the Necropolis not through the gates.
The woman looks at you, and your badges, in exasperation.
I sent a runner two days ago when this nonsense started that I needed supplies for my men to continue to guard this gate, and I wanted reinforcements! Why else would you be here if it weren't to bring supplies when you'd just consumer more?
Rameth the Delver
The word is consume. I don't know anything about your runner and need for supplies, but we can leave if you would rather we not be here to offer assistance.
Calin Tinderfoot
"Not sure what we can do about all of these undead. I could start filling them with arrows but it will take a while, and more arrows than I currently have to put them all down."
"What supplies exactly are you needing? Do you have any ideas on how to put all these undead down?"
DMummy
Bal scowls at you when you tell her the message.
That spineless - I couldn't spare any guardsmen so I sent a local merchant back to the temple. He hasn't been back yet so I bet he just shrieked for help and parked himself in one of the tents. Why can't people just keep faith with Pharasma that the natural order will be -
As she talks you see something creep towards - a long, black shape that slowly creeps up from the shadow of the gate and suddenly seems to rise from the ground and attack the priestess. Seeing the risen, incorporeal undead pass under the gates causes the guards to finally break as the gate no longer seems as reassuring as it had.

Tobbs moves up to H13 and attempts an attack.

don't forget about this bit A natron fang is a +1 khopesh forged to combat the undead (specifically mummies and the incorporeal undead) carved from a single chunk of magically hardened mineral salts. A natron fang overcomes the damage reduction of mummies, mummified creators and other mummy-like creatures at the GM's discretion. Once per day on a successful strike against an incorporeal undead creation, a natron fang also deals 1d6 Charisma damage (will DC 13 half) in addition to the weapon's normal damage.
Dwalindor the Pahmet

Nice. Dwalindor is just getting the feel and balance with it .
Rameth the Delver
not what you wanted to happen I suspect that i had to watch a chilis commercial first which ruined the moment

The shadow seems to shift in silent laughter, having been unharmed by your many attacks.
The cleric focuses her divine power and sends out a burst that claws at the shadow's own ability to remain on the material plane, then steps back to try and get away from the monster.

As Rameth hits he allows his focus on his attack to fade as he pushes a bit harder letting studied combat go away in exchange for the +1d6. Will have to use another move action next round to get studied combat again.
DMummy
Studied Combat only allows a target to be subject to it once every 24 hours without using a point of inspiration. Are you sure you want to take that action?
Rameth the Delver
yep unless it is immune to that kind of damage, which i figure my religion roll would tell me. Right now we gotta do as much damage as possible or our priest is going to die!!
Tobbs
Tobbs moves up to the creature again and attacks. (I14)
bite: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 1 = 20damage: 1d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 = 9
His attacks with his claws again pass right through the creature without making contact.

Calin runs up next to Tobbs pulling a flask of holy water from his belt, unstoppers it, and pours it on the creature.
