Cats will lop off the thing's head...then sink back against the wall, breathing hard.

2d10 + 12 + 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 12 + (4, 4) = 25 coup d'jerk

...then sink back against the wall, breathing hard.

"Okay then...that was not cat," Cats says, belabored breathing. "I don't think we'll survive another like that...and we were lucky to live through that. We cannot rescue others or this town if we are dead. We should rest in the warm cats upstairs."

The Mariner leans against the wall in a bloody mess. Even as Brother thankfully removes the numbness, he was a couple pints short of the red stuff. "Yea, I'm going up with Cats. If they are still watching us, they'll know how deadly we are, it'll be stupid of them to kill off the hostages - it gives us no reason to even consider letting the kidnappers live." Hopefully they heard that.

Brother is also exhausted. He was doubly frustrated at how little he contributed to that melee. But, once he gave the blessing of Desna - EVERYTHING changed. Their prospects in the battle turned on a gold piece, going from possible defeat to strike down victory.

He knows that he needs Desna.
But he is ooohhhh so tired.
I agree with you Kast and Mariner. We should rest before going further. I think that the patients of Briarstone are already marked with the Yellow Sign and already dead. I only ask that you hear me out for one last idea.

This Weiralai person or creature is WRAPPED FROM HEAD TO TOE AND COVERED UP. I mean, even I could dress Kast up in her clothes and use a little paint to make you look just like her. Plus, Mariner can drink the invisibility potion and find those prisoners WITHOUT A FIGHT.
All we need to do is free the prisoners- if they live. No fighting, just a quick explore. We have like 6 vanish potions- Fearless could take those in succession if need be to tag along.
If anyone hates that idea- or at least trying it - we head upstairs right now and sleep.
But, it's been itching in the back of my mind that Weirelai said the answer was RIGHT UNDER THE COUNTS NOSE THE WHOLE TIME. That means that there's a secret staircase or trapdoor heading down somewhere around here -or at the well.
No more attacking , just freeing the prisoners and fleeing.

Cats stands, over and done with this hunt without nearby prey.

”They are not here, Catterfly,” Cats says, unsure, but not seeing any evidence. ”Maybe they are, but we lose this entire town if we die here. We catn’t take that risk.”

Cats begins to head upstairs, listening for sounds of anyone screaming or needing help.

Atop the hatch, he will lock it, then get Mariner’s assistance in putting some heavy furniture over the hatch, then some breakables atop that so that they will loudly fall if the furniture is moved.

Brother Butterfly’s words fall on deaf ears as Cats and the Mariner pack it up to abandon the search. As they are leaving, however, Fearless gives the chamber a quick search. Let me know if you open any sarcophagi, loot bodies, etc.

This crypt holds the members of the Lowls family that died since the foundation of Iris Hill. Two generations prior to Haserton Lowls IV, including Lowls’s father, his grandfather and grandmother on his father’s side, a brother, and an aunt rest in the sarcophaghi; their graves are marked as follows, respectively.

• Haserton Lowls III, 4631–4694AR
• Gordel “Brigandslayer” Lowls II, 4589–4655AR
• Ulunda Lowls, 4602–4661AR
• Cerilde Lowls, 4593–4659AR
• Elistor Lowls, 4672–4693AR

The remaining two sarcophagi are unmarked and uncovered.

The skeletons of older ancestors and of other dead people close to the family have been transferred into the recesses in the walls, incinerated and put in urns, or—in the case of a few—unceremoniously laid on the
floor. Some still carry the jewels, armor, weapons and other precious trappings of their station.

The corpse of Accuser Omari has nothing, though it still bears the strange brass plates that Weiralai was manipulating. Their purpose remains a mystery.

Hidden on the south wall, behind the bas-relief of Pharasma’s face, is a secret passage set to swivel on stone pivots - beyond it a spiral staircase descends deeper below Iris Hill.

Male Halfling | HP 74 | AC 21; TCH 16; FF 17 | Perc +14

"The Lowls family line..." Fearless wipes a hand on each of the sarcophagi. "This guy took so much from us it is only fair." Fearless grunts as he pushes open each of teh tombs to look for long lost treasure as well as see what Mariner's ex had on her.

"When we are done here we should see if we passed anything else up."

If we live that is. He tells himself.

Fearless keeps running his hands along the statue when it suddenly moves revealing a spiral staircase. His head hangs low. "Damn...I hate to do this but..." Fearless gulps and has the look of pure shame on his face. "Shapeshifter was right." He points to the secret passage hanging his head low.

Please be a staircase heading up. Please be a staircase heading up.... please don't let it head farther down... let me just sleep and rest.
BB's shoulder's slump when he sees that the winding stairs go downward.

He asks Desna for the smallest of magical boons.
Desna's shine a light on anything of value in this crypt. Shine your grace on items of power that can help us in our quest.

He casts detect magic and looks around the crypt.

Fearless did you use the wand to heal Mariner? If so, how many charges?

BB does have a disguise skill( +3) and craft painting (+6) to paint the face and put the symbol on. GM - is it even possible to make Cats look like Weiralai?

Fearless finds rings, necklaces, circlets, scepters, and even coins and jewels among the dead. Brother Butterfly senses magic upon the bronze plates affixed to Omari, and upon a longsword entombed with one of corpses.

”Let’s get to bed,” Cats leads the group up to F7 or F8 (whichever is cleaner). He is happy to move in a bed or pillows or blankets for rest.

I dunno, usual watches? Cats first, then Brother Catterfly, then Catiner & Catless?

Fearless shrugs and follows, setting in for the night. His feet feel unusually heavy, and not because of being weighed down by the pounds of coin and jewelry.

Fearless sits down to start sorting everything as Cats begins moving the furniture over the hatch. The world begins to get dark for the halfling as his eyes droop. The sound of wood scraping on wood and the vibration on the floorboards knocks him out faster than a fed baby. He mumbles to himself. "Sleeping in the lion's den....." Mariner mentioned taking first watch so the three of us can sleep. Fearless only needs 2 hours to fully rest and recharge, so he can take multiple watches. My suggestion: Mariner for 1. Fearless and Cats for second, Fearless and BB for third.
He uses two charges from the CMW wand - Biter to heal Mariner a bit.

cmw: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (5, 2) + 3 = 10 Mariner

Seeing a bed, Jasper takes off the chain shirt and plops down on the bed with a "timber" type effect. Should a bed already be occupied, Bb searches or moves furniture so he sleeps on a bed. He is NOT about to sleep on the floor. That is beneath him.

Climbing down through the trap door in the kitchen, the Watchmen find themselves in ice cellar explored by the Mariner earlier in the night. It remains untouched, the door as the Mariner left it.

Moving carefully through the basement chambers of Iris Hill, the group finds them similarly undisturbed.

Mariner asked earlier for further description of the bronze plates: Approximately 10 inches on each side, these two square, brass-colored metal plates have rubber edges and screws at each corner used to tighten the plates like a clamp.
