Well, I am headed off tomorrow for DragonCon and will not be back until Monday night. I'll have a laptop and should be abel to post most days but likely not more than once a day. Please bot me if you need to. Everyone have a good Labor Day weekend.
Rogar Stefanssen
I should be able to post solidly tomorrow. I've been handling some fun stuff, but very time consuming stuff at work. And with my kids and now that football season has started, every saturday is a 3 hour trip south to Champaign to watch Illinois play football, or some semblance of the game.
Cadas
Cadas has a base set of spells under her alias. I will try to note if I change them. They currently are:
2 (4/day) Barkskin(Domain), Burst of Radiance, Bulls Strength, Spiritual Weapon
1 (5/day) Infernal Healing, Obscuring Mist(Domain), Divine Favor, Protection from Evil
0 (at will) Stabilize, Guidance, Light, Virtue
Malcolm Rayes
Ah, sorry, I thought you meant new spells gained at lvl up.
0- Acid Splash, Detect Magic, Resistance, Read Magic
1st - Grease, Mage armor, Summon Monster 1, Obscuring Mist, Grease (School Slot)
2nd - Create Pit, Web, Summon Monster 2, Web (School Slot)

Ok - Here is my problem. We are 4th level and should each have around 6K of gear. We are no where close. Cadas wears that +1 ring worth 2K so she may be ahead of everyone else. But she has less than 3K of gear. And beside that ring, no magic at all. No scrolls, no potions, nothing.
I am not asking that anything change and am having a great time. Please do not consider this a rant or request for change. I am simply trying to establish the basis for my mind set here. We are behind in wealth by 50% or more. On top of that we have to use appraise to sell things, which makes total sense, but also means that at best we will sell things for what they are worth, and often for less. Selling them for what they are worth is the standard in most games.
So we beat a guy in the module. The module assumes we have that wealth. If we go giving it way we get even farther behind. That wealth is considerable. It is
+1 Banded mail = 1400
MW heavy steel shield - 170
composite longbow = 100 gold plus any strength bonus
MW bastard sword= 335
everburning torch = 110
potion of CMW = 300
Total = 2415 gold piece value. Remember, with the ring Cadas is at 2856. Without it she is at 856.
Looking at other players:
Korvek has mw full plate but little else. No magic.
Rogar has a +1 shield and a breastplate - no other magic
Robin has a Wand of Cure Light Wounds and a Mithril chain shirt, MW thieves tools, Scrolls of Comprehend Languages, Minor Image, and See Invisibility and an Everburning Torch
This fighter has considerable more wealth than most of the party. I feel like we are extremely under equipped and cannot feel good about giving away over 2400 gp of gear. I do see the RP aspect of it and would want to send an honorable fight to help defend the town, but maybe not at that cost. Thoughts?

Have been running the loot straight up from the AP. There is not a lot of items available at the early levels. You do have a load of items pending being sold, and you are getting a 10% mark up and 10% discount at Savah's.
I understand the frustration and the sticky place re-arming Orik puts you in, but those challenging decisions are part of the fun of the game.
Good luck working it out.
Cadas
Right. Again, no complaint. And I may be the only one concerned about it so I wanted to sort of analytically explain my position.
Its all fun and games til you need a magic weapon to bypass DR and don't have one… :P
Cadas
It has been two weeks since our dwarves have posted. Can we get this AP rolling again. We were bogged down dealing with the prisoner but that is behind us. I'd love to get back to daily posting in this game. Thoughts?

I'm around. Sorry. I work for an Ad agency and there will be times I might disappear for 3 days because the radio spot or tv spot I wrote has to go into production on a truncated timeline. It's not regular, but it caught me this week. I'm reading through the posts and ready to catch up.
Cadas
It dipped below 32 Friday night. Got a little cold but I was not in a mummy bag. I hate those things and will not get in one if I do not have to. lol.

So this is the basic end of the first part of the AP. You can continue to explore Thistletop, if you like, but the end of Nualia fulfills the requriments.
I have two basic questions:
1) Do you want PFS credit for this section of the module? There have to be at least three players to make it PFS-legal, so you all have to take a Chronicle Sheet if you want it. Like any sanctioned AP section, it gives 3 xp and 4 PP, and is at Tier 3-4. I can get the Chronicle sheets ready if you want them.
2) What do you want to do about continuing? Is this enough that you have closure and want to stop since we are short party members, or do you want to go out and find some more? My luck with replacements has been pretty bad of late in any of my games...I am fine either way. If you want to wrap this here, I would invite you to another AP start of your choice...If you want to continue, we surely can.
LMK your decisions on each which will, in my mind, require consensus from the group for each.
Cadas
I too am in to continue. My PFS characters seem to level too fast so I am not interested in credit. But if others are I can accept credit to make the legal "table".
And I say we explore the rest of the place, but do not have to be in a hurry. Better to make sure we are well equipped and well rested. Cadas has a +1 cloak waiting for her back in town. We also have that war horse up stairs to get back. There may be a reward for him. If not I think Rogar needs a warhorse. :)
If you want help with replacements let me know. I am fine doing a general recruitment or filling the game from friends we believe are reliable.
Robin the Jester
I'm agnostic about the chronicle sheet, but will join in if someone else wants it.
I don't know how your other RotRL tables are doing, Doctor Evil, but maybe we could do a merger? It would simplify the games, but requires a bit of reality-warping. I'm happy to keep going with more recruits too!
DM DoctorEvil
The group that started with you guys is ahead of you now. They still have 6 active members, so they won't work for a merger. I have two other RotRL games that I inherited from others (I am a sucker for lost puppies apparently), but they are still in the Glassworks or the Caverns under, so quite a ways behind your group.
I think the best way to continue would be to either open recruit or take interested party recommendations from other successful games and posters.
If you want to run the Recruitment, please do. My hands are so full at the moment, I'm not sure I could do it justice. I would think you'll want a total of 5 (could be 6) but with four you are just one step away from recruiting again.
Up to the group if they want to continue to dig or go back to Sandpoint and rest and gear up. It's been a long day (or two) in Thistletop as it is, and more fun awaits you on your return.
Cadas
I really do want to finish exploring this place. Partly to see it completely mapped and partly for treasure. But we really need at least one more (I think) to safely do that. Thoughts?
I say we recruit an arcane and a melee type from friends on the boards already. I can ask a few players I know too. Is that ok?
DM DoctorEvil
Please ask away. I agree that a melee type and an arcane caster would round out the group. The new people would come in at lvl 4, and we could roll them in quickly if you are headed back to Sandpoint soon. If you are staying in the dungeon, that's trickier.
Have them post in the recruitment tab if you like and we'll take the first good submission of each type.
Cadas
I say we explore the rest of this place before we head back. I fear that once we do go back events will sweep us away from the possibility of completing the exploration. Thoughts?
For the new players - 20 point build, three feats? And what starting gold?
bluedove
I could draw something up. Sounds like #1 priority is meat shield? I've never really run a tank before, so I'm open to suggestions. I've really wanted to draw up a character to capitalize on the Bodyguard feat and the Halfling racial trait, Helpful. Would the Adopted trait be allowed? If so, could go human, probably fighter... also looking at Cavalier. Thoughts?
bluedove
Ok, tentatively submitting a fighter. How is HP determined at level up? Also the gold question wasn't answered yet, so just applied basic masterwork stuff.
Rolling HP: 3d10 ⇒ (9, 8, 9) = 26
Here's hoping that will work! =D

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Adopted You were adopted and raised by someone not of your actual race, and raised in a society not your own.
Armor Training (Ex) You are more maneuverable while wearing armor. Whenever you are wearing armor, you reduce the armor check penalty by 1 and increase the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed by your armor by +1
Bonus Feat Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.
Bonus Feats At 1st level, and at every even level thereafter, a fighter gains a bonus feat in addition to those gained from normal advancement (meaning that the fighter gains a feat at every level). These bonus feats must be selected from those listed as combat feats, sometimes also called "fighter bonus feats." Upon reaching 4th level, and every four levels thereafter (8th, 12th, and so on), a fighter can choose to learn a new bonus feat in place of a bonus feat he has already learned. In effect, the fighter loses the bonus feat in exchange for the new one. The old feat cannot be one that was used as a prerequisite for another feat, prestige class, or other ability. A fighter can only change one feat at any given level and must choose whether or not to swap the feat at the time he gains a new bonus feat for the level.
Bravery (Ex) You gain a +1 bonus to Will saves against fear effects.
Halfling
Helpful You see nothing wrong with letting others achieve greatness so long as the job gets done. Whenever you successfully perform an aid another action, you grant your ally a +4 bonus instead of the normal +2.
Looking for Work (Perception) Although out of work, you aren't particularly keen on the prospect of gambling away your last remaining coins simply for a chance at riches.
Skilled Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency A fighter is proficient with all simple and martial weapons and with all armor (heavy, medium, and light) and shields (including tower shields).
Still open to feedback! Had the thought to go ahead with the Cavalier and make a halfling mounted on a wolf, but the loss of feats is too much, I think.

Hi Bluedove. Glad to hear you might be joining us. :)
I think Paladins make the best tanks. Good AC AND spells at later level, AND the best saves the game, AND swift lay on hands. Use Adopted, or just play a halfling for another point of AC. :)
Pallys are a little more feat starved but swift lay on hands can almost double your health. And then there is smite, and weapon bond and mercys etc.
I think any fighter with a shield should consider shield slamming builds. Those can be very effective when you can bull rush with a slam.
But of course, play what you will have the most fun with.
Cadas
A good friend of mine has agreed to post an arcane caster to the recruitment thread soon. I just now invited him to do so. So it might be tomorrow before he has a build posted. I still need to know about starting gold.
DM DoctorEvil
Current players have an average wealth of just under 4,000 gp, but they have another 7500 gp or so of gear to sell once they get back to civilization. That pro-rated should put them each around 5500gp of cash and items.
Let's start gold for your 4th level characters in the 5000-5500 gp range. If you want something besides what might be normally available (like a wonderous item) then lets discuss first.
Hit points have been full at first level, and then either take the PFS approach (1+half HD) or rolling. If you choose to roll you are stuck with that result, so it looks like you have some good luck with HP!
For traits, I allowed 2 normal traits and then one from either RotRL Anniversary edition or from Shadows Under Sandpoint.
