Papa, you still camping?
Rikar Sarakin
Starting tomorrow, I'll be on vacation with my family for the next two weeks. I'll still be able to post, but with slightly less frequency, I expect.
Therena
Can somebody remind me of the specifics of my green gem? I've looked through the gameplay and discussion threads and can't find any mention. I know it gives Therena +2 to Wisdom, but I can't remember the other stuff and it looks like I never wrote it in. I'm trying to account for a +2 deflection bonus to her AC, and I'm guessing it came from the gem. I was pretty sure that Misha had written a post that explained its powers, but I can't seem to find it.
Misha Keroun
All of the Tears' properties are in Campaign Information. It does not grant a bonus to AC, but +2 to Wisdom and saves vs. conjuration spells.
Therena
I must have written in the deflection bonus from protection from evil into the character sheet part. Very stupid thing to do, unless I had built her with a +2 ring of protection that I accidentally deleted from the sheet, which is very unlikely.

Thanks for the heads up. That is about 80 miles west of me....

Gotta busy couple of days leading to the weekend. For Thursday and Friday feel free to bot me. Kreig would happily take point as always.
Telman Raoul
Cell connection was REALLY bad in the mountains, and the camp staff put a password on the wifi!
catching up tonight, thanks for the patience.

Whew. *splash*gasp*gasp* Okay. Coming up for air. Trying to get caught up with my games. 23 posts on this one alone. Daunting by awesome!
Misha Keroun
Will be away from the boards, probably, tomorrow through Sunday. Hopefully when I get back there will be some movement!
Misha Keroun
I am back.
I wanna say something and check in with folks, with the caveats I know this is vacation time of year (Telman's out/just getting back today), people are busy in general, and this has been a long running campaign. Nothing I am about to say regards general observation of trends and is not intended to single anyone out.
I feel like before I went away for the last few months (not just this most recent time when a number of us have been on vacation), I was posting a lot to help push exploration forward and get us moving. It's in character for Misha to want to explore, but I don't want to play the Misha Show, and I don't want to feel like I am pushing other people out of opportunities, spotlights, etc. I've largely posted when I have just to keep us moving if anything else, and it gets a little tiring when the other posts come few and far between. It's hard not to get the sense that some folks in general are just phoning it in. Or, alternately, that my post rate dissuades others/takes opportunities away from other people.
I really enjoy this campaign and we've been going for a long time. I REALLY want to see it to its end--frustration with periodic slowness aside, this is one of the best and most long running PBPs I've played in here at the Paizo boards.
But people often seem to disappear without a word and that makes it hard to keep energy going, and that kind of lack of energy tends to feed on itself and amplify over time.
I know we're also in an area where it's VERY dungeon crawly--check for traps, kick in door, fight, loot, rinse, repeat. We were given fair warning at the beginning of the campaign that it was a very dungeon crawly adventure. But, nonethless, there's not a lot of opportunity for variance in the routine and can particularly be boring for those who do not have kick-search-loot skill sets. Do we need to ask the GM to fast forward, presume we just routinely search the area so we can quickly move on to where there are more obvious plot points? Do we--dare I say it?--split the party to move some things forward faster, and so that others with different skills and abilities also find things to do?
Summary -
- Are YOU still enjoying this game?
- What can we do to keep folks engaged?
- Am I posting too much?
- Do we need to just get out of this particular part of the dungeon?
Again, just noting the general slowness and lack of energy and hoping to do something about it for all our sakes. No one person is doing anything wrong--no one at all is doing anything wrong--but collectively I feel like we have some movement issues. This is an awesome game with a great group of players and I hope we can move forward soon.

I'm still checking in every day.
It's tough to keep the posting pace up if it seems like we're crawling through dungeon levels slowly.
Josef has SOP and goes about it, but can't really contribute other than detect magic/lights unless they are specific obstaclea.
I will try to keep up the posting too
Therena
Still here and checking everyday. I'm just having trouble finding Therena's voice enough to move past the one-dimensional "always cheerful", so that holds me back from a lot of RP posts.
Telman Raoul
Back from vaca and checking every day again ... Crawls do tend to be slower but that's the nature of the beast. I am still enjoying the campaign, absolutely. It's like you said: having little "colorful" to say when trudging through boring hallways isn't a BAD thing, it just is how it is.
But even saying that I can commit to pushing myself harder for the good of the team. This is NOT a campaign I'm willing to give up without a fight!
Rikar Sarakin
Misha - thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts. I've felt the lack of energy as well, and I feel like I'm part of the cause. I've been pretty busy of late (and am about to get a lot busier), and have definitely felt the dungeon crawl fatigue as well.
To try to respond to your questions:
I'm still enjoying the game, but my enthusiasm has dropped off a bit.
You are not posting too much at all. You're doing the lion's share of helping this game moving, from the player side of the table at least, and I appreciate that.
I think your idea of a bit more hand waving at times is a very good one. If it's possible to just wrap up this section or level, get a summary of what we learned from DRB, and move on to a slightly different moment in the story, I think that could be very helpful.
Kreig Ironhand
Yeah, what Rokar and the others have said. I'm still a big fan of the team. Kreig was my first ever dwarf in 25 years of gaming and I'm loving his voice. But I'm also getting pulled in new directions in RL that hampers posting. Plus, when it comes to the dungeon crawls, it's a bit slow on the going on PbP and it diminishes enthusiasm a bit when there's no real way to maintain tension away from a table. I'm still game to continue and really want to and will re-attempt to post more frequently.
Misha Keroun
Maybe we can automate some of the Stealth-Search-Search-Loot routine to get us moving. DRB, would that make too much work for you? I'm thinking just check the rolls and move forward.
We can't control RL issues of course and I hope y'all being dragged in other directions can find this useful as a break rather than something yet else to have to get done.
Therena, if there's anything we can do to help nudge the muse, let us know.
DM Papa.DRB
I am still checking (most) every day. Mondays, especially the 2nd Monday, still kinda stink for me.
If you can automate the stealth-search-loot routine that is fine with me. I can make macros for folks, and just automate most of it.
Just so I am sure that I am understanding; I move you forward, on a path thru the dungeon, at least in this area and until there will be something more significant that search-loot.
As long as folks don't (and I don't think this group will) say "oh, he stopped, lets blow prep spells cause something is gonna happen" then I am fine with me moving it forward.
Does this sound ok to you all?

I agree. We're getting to a point where simple obstacles like climbing and such are pretty easily overcome, so long as we're not also being engaged in combat or chased by a huge boulder or something similar.
I like the game but the pace of PbP combined with in depth dungeon crawling is tough to manage.
Rikar Sarakin
Does this sound ok to you all?-- david
Yes! Make it so, DRB! And thank you!
Misha Keroun
That's fine with me, too. Thanks for understanding, DRB! It is a good game, we are just in a slow section.
Misha Keroun
My condolences.
Kreig Ironhand
Sorry to hear of your loss. It's never easy. Safe journeys and speedy healing.
Therena
Hmmm...just realized an air head cheerleader bard that worships Sinishakti would be an absolute riot to play.
Kreig Ironhand
@Therena: Yup. Hero High meets Pathfinder. I could dig it.
Rikar Sarakin
Ummm...4000 posts!

Tomorrow Sunday 30 August around12:00, the other grandparents are bringing our three year old granddaughter to the camper and after lunch they are leaving her here. Our kids are on an "adult" vacation to Punta Cana, and won't be back till Saturday 5 September around 17:00. And then on Sunday 6 September we are all going to the Columbia County, NY, Fair.
As last time we had her, I may be slow on posting, because of being exhausted, but I will try to keep up.

I had assumed the monster had some ridiculous reach ability. If not, Krieg should not have been attacked.
Rikar Sarakin
Hey folks - just a heads up that my posting rate may slow quite a bit for a while. I'm being deployed on Wednesday (Sep 2) to the island of Saipan (a US territory) to help clean up in the aftermath of Typhoon Soudelor. My available time and connectivity are both difficult to predict at this point. I return on September 24 and will post as I'm able.
Misha Keroun
Yikes. Good luck.
My boss used to do that kind of work (it's what got him into public health work); it's hard but desperately needed.
DM Papa.DRB
A three year old is a hand full, especially for those of us in our late 60's. Finally got some time to do my PbP. Checked the two I am playing in, did a big update in another one I am DMing and was coming here when the boss commandeered the computer (aka the wife needed to use it, heh.) so back now.
Misha Keroun
Going away for the weekend so bot me if needed. :)
Misha Keroun
Misha is leveled.
Her Fort went up, Trap Sense went up, spells per day went up. She can cast more spells per day, and learned a new spell remove curse (one of those spells you hope you never cast but know you'll wish you had it should circumstances arise where you need it). Use favored class ability to learn new 2nd level spell, versatile weapon (not that DR has really been too big a challenge for us).
Took Quick Draw for her feat. 9 Skill Points went to Bluff, various Knowledges, Perception, Spellcraft, and Use Magic Device.

All leveled up.
Took Eldritch Knight.
Feats: Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot
Skills: Fly +1, Kn (history) & (geography) +1, Spellcraft +1, Sense Motive +5
HP now 84/84
Fort & BAB +1
Misha Keroun
Yay, you finally got to EK! :)
Josef Guardson

Was toying with it last level but wanted 4th lvl spells (dimension door, specifically)
Now it seems to make sense...full BAB & two feats this lvl after all.
Therena
Thinking about 3rd level sorcerer spells. Do we have a regular source of haste spells?
She could also take fly and be able to spam fly spells for the party. Or phantom steed.
Josef Guardson

I have one haste prepared all the time.
Also have fly & extended fly prepared.
Up to you, honestly.
Rikar Sarakin
Hey all - I'm pondering my options for leveling up, and was hoping for some feedback. The way I've got Rikar built, he does a lot of damage in combat. I could continue to focus on that aspect of him - for example, the Spell-Less Ranger has a ranger talent called Favored Attack that doubles the crit range of all my weapons while I'm in a favored terrain, which is pretty much all the time in this adventure - but I'd like to know if folks feel that it's imbalanced at this point, since we're killing things pretty quickly, largely through Rikar pouring on the damage.
At this level I get a feat and a talent, and I could focus on melee effectiveness, or I could select other stuff that's more broadly useful or just goofy but fun (like picking up the Scent ability), but I would like to hear if you all feel that Rikar's damage output at this point is making things less fun or anything like that.
I don't feel the need to have him do more damage, necessarily, but it could be fun to push the envelope on that a bit also. But if he crits with his new scythe, he'll do an average of 78 damage, and his max will be 122 damage from a single hit.

I am all about maximizing the numbers & playing the character as you see fit.
In general, if there's an option (skill mastery, Lore master) that allows me to avoid random numbers, I go with that.
Absent that, may as well do the best you can with what you do.
