I don't believe I am carrying any of those items. Definitely not carrying the wand, but I could probably UMD it if we were truly desperate. And the UMD specialist hedgepeeg was otherwise occupied.

It's not super important who is carrying the wands at this point. We just need some rolls for Xiddik.

Fíriel shakes her head in puzzlement at Jametor's question. "I'm not sure. It looks a bit like Boggard, but I can't imagine what that language would be doing here."

Firiel and Xiddik can make out the text as Aboleth.

Maybe write it down or something and then we'll work it out later, when i can prep a comprehend languages or make some decent linguini rolls.

This glyph's good and destroyed but you could still read the text if wanted to. Otherwise I was just waiting for Xiddik to get her strength patched up. Should I take it you guys are ready to move on?

An arcane verse later the party is whisked from the Weeping Cliffs back onto a nice horizontal flat surface.

The Crystal Plaza itself consists of several 30-foot-tall crystal archways set in a rough circle. Several of the crystals have fallen the cause of which remains unseen. Another enormous glowing glyph shimmers in the space under the largest of the crystal arches, its purple glow dimly illuminating the region and refracting off the countless surrounding facets.

Perception 25:
There's an unusual rippling in the air amid the crystal arches, almost as if a thin layer of water were superimposed vertically between some of the arches.

Rogue 14 [ HP 36/87 (0 NL) | AC 26 Tch 19 FF 20 | Fort +9* Ref +18* Will +10* | CMD 27, 29 vs steal | Init +9 | Perc +21, vs traps +32, trap spotter | Effects: Haste]

Knowledge (geography): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 Does Xiddik know much about the Crystal Plaza?

Xiddik peers forward. "Crystals don't fall on their own," she says, helpfully.

Xiddik can corroborate what the party was told earlier.

Recap wrote:
"Located only a few hundred yards east of the stretch of beach known as the Aboleth Landing, the Crystal Plaza is all that remains of an outcast wizard’s attempt to create a thin spot between the Material Plane and the Abyss to facilitate his conjuration experiments. He raised the eerie crystals here in a henge to focus his magic, but he succeeded far earlier in the process than he’d planned. His crystals drew the attention of something terrible and he was devoured. Many believe whatever the wizard summoned still resides within the plaza and avoid the site as a result."

Also she's heard some rumors of what was summoned and ate the wizard - an extraplanar creature known as an abyssal harvester. They are feared for their ability to reach through the dimensions in the hunt for food.

Male Elf--Drow (Jamleus) Wizard 14| HP 80/80 | AC 15 | T 15 | FF 11 | CMD 22 | Fort +7 | Ref +10 | Will +11 | Init +4 | Perc +20 | Sense Motive +18 |Effects: Mage Armor +4 AC

"Oh good, not only the dark elves but an Abyssal Harvester? this will be fun. Let's see if we can get this done quickly." Jametor says studying the scene.

"That's just weird, Randall," Asht'el observes, "though I suppose after all of us wearing drow skins like suits, it's not so weird after all."

He glances at Jametor to see what wisdom the elf is about to dispense.

Everyone Else Perceptions: 4d20 ⇒ (11, 13, 10, 4) = 38
Initiative: 6d20 ⇒ (11, 16, 14, 7, 10, 4) = 62

1d2 ⇒ 2

Very quickly things go from strange to dangerous in the crystalline plaza as dozens of enormous pale eyes appears in the shimmering spaces spots in the air followed by a tree-trunk sized barbed tentacle. The thrashing appendage flops clumsily across the ground briefly before lunging at Jametor. Through the space in the air where the tentacle has sprung a fiery hellscape is visible along with the rest of alien beast to whom the tentacle is attached.

Attack: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (15) + 26 = 41
Damage: 3d6 + 15 ⇒ (1, 4, 3) + 15 = 23
Grab: 1d20 + 42 ⇒ (18) + 42 = 60
Constrict Damage: 3d6 + 15 ⇒ (3, 1, 2) + 15 = 21

Randall and Firiel get a surprise action and then the party is up.

Did Jametor have time to share his knowledge before he was attacked?

Female Halfling Rog 3 / Sorc 4 / AT 7 [ HP 94/94 (0 NL) | AC 21 Tch 17 FF 16 | Fort +9* Ref +16* Will +14* | CMD 21 | Init +5 | Perc +16 | Effects: none ]

Randall's question, and also, I'm pretty sure +42 to grab is illegal.

As the tentacle appears and grabs hold of Jametor, Asht'el casts his trusty ol' spell to grant his friends extra speed.

Cast haste.

Feral - can we move past those blue crystal things on the map? Not sure if they are arches we can pass under or not, but otherwise we seem to be trapped in a box. If we can move, I'll do that with my move action this round.

Poor Form! POOR Form! And Ouch ouch ouch. wtf...stupid evil beasts. +26...to attack..that sucks.

Jametor would be in the middle of explaining things when the surprise round went down. Give me a priority list of things you want to know Jametor.

The blue things are arches so you can move under them but the ends would be impassible.

Well..I would have had to know there was a monster there..I was studying the setup around the crystal, but perhaps I would have deduced the monster? Sorry am watching the 4th series of Sherlock Holmes on Netflix.

Oh, I thought you were trying to recollect what you knew about the Abyssal Harvester that rumor in the form of Xiddik indicated was here.

I think there's been some miscommunication. What did Jametor want to know about the monster? Or were you just curious about the architecture of the crystal archs?

Male Elf--Drow (Jamleus) Wizard 14| HP 80/80 | AC 15 | T 15 | FF 11 | CMD 22 | Fort +7 | Ref +10 | Will +11 | Init +4 | Perc +20 | Sense Motive +18 |Effects: Mage Armor +4 AC

Well I was working on the crystal arches, then I got attacked, which is unfair because I am just a scholar looking at ruins. But, I suppose if the knowledge of the architecture gives me information on the mean thing..

It appears Xiddik was looking at what she knew of the place. I was studying to see how best to destroy the big crystal we need to destroy.

Oh, you were trying to study the glyph. The same rules apply as the last one, you need to either speak aboleth or have time to study it which hasn't been possible as a certain tentacle monster rudely interrupted you.

Poke.

Randall? Firiel? Surprise round actions?

Oh, boy. Is it surprised?

Fighting tree-trunk-sized appendages is really not Randall's idea of a good idea. He opts for the tactic that worked last time, attacking the glyph while the others fight the guardian. He moves to the glyph and studies it intently, hoping that destroying it might close the gate on the monster.

Perception to study the glyph for traps: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (18) + 32 = 50

Within its distant domain, Firiel's magic washes harmlessly off the hideous devourer. Prickle's growl, while fierce, goes unnoticed as well.

Randall does notice some form of defense attached to the enormous glyph but it's not the typical type of explosive trap he's accustomed to seeing. It seems to be attached to the devourer defending the site.

Normal initiative now. The party is up.

Hmm, I appear to have cheated. I cast haste before I had an action, since I didn't get to act in the surprise round. So my normal round action will be to cast the haste I cheatingly cast in the surprise round. I should be able to affect everyone except possibly Randall, who seems to have moved off the map.

That leaves Njord and Firiel. Suggestions for Firiel's actions?
