I assumed Firiel was keeping up with the rest of us, level-wise.
I think that might have been an in-joke between DM Bag and Firiel, like when she spoilered a message to herself the other day. She's clever that way.
Randall Quickstep |
Yeah feat is holding me up too. Meta seems like the way to go, but which one. I was thinking still or silent, but I am not sure.
What is the situation in which you expect to use it and which spells do you want to use it for? Those factors really should determine it for you. Do you have anything that affects the power level or measurements (duration, range, width, etc.)? I rather like Extend for certain spells, Empower for others. I have taken Still and Silent, but found that I didn't use them often, especially for a prepared caster. YMMV, of course.
Jametor Darksbane |
Well, in the end, in a strange switch where the blaster would normally be the sorc, I am the blaster. Right now, I have intensified Fireball, which I need to prep all I can, since I don't actually have much downside for. I could empower it or something else. You've seen most of what I plan on casting, although I just realized I need to pick a few more spells to learn.
Plus I need to pick up level 7 spells. Um..limited wish anyone? I assume I need to start getting into the time shifting process to keep up with the monsters?
Randall Quickstep |
Well, it certainly doesn't need range extended. You can put it anywhere you can see. You could widen it to hit more bad guys. I think there is a selective metamagic so you could leave areas within the blast area unaffected so you could drop a fireball on Njord and the guy he's fighting without hurting Njord.
But I like Empower. And I like it better than Maximize.
Of course, as a third-level spell, lesser metamagic rods can be used with it, so you can mix and match for less gold without having to prepare everything just so. Like - get empower as a feat, then get still or silent meta-rods for those times when you want to use those feats.
Am I helping? Or making it worse?
Asht'el |
Okay, I took Reach Spell as my feat, Great Fortitude as my Bloodline feat. For spells, I took Calcific Touch (4th), Corrosive Consumption (5th - lots of acid damage, no save!), and Chain Lightning (6th).
Will work on getting my alias updated pronto.
Jametor Darksbane |
Well I've worked to try to place the fireball in areas that don't hit Njord etc.
Yeah I have a selective rod, but with the staff it's sometimes hard to have things in both hands.
Empower is interesting because it could make fireball even more powerful.
Randall Quickstep |
I don't believe you would be able to apply the rod's effect to something you cast from the staff. Maybe we could get the staff upgraded to behave like a rod, though, and save you the trouble of carrying a second magical device.
I saw a discussion from the 3.0 days that explained why, in most cases, Empower was a better choice than Maximize. I don't remember the specifics, but part of it was a cost/benefit analysis.
Oh, and you said you have 7th-level slots now? So you could Quicken a Fireball if you wanted to spend a slot on it?
Randall Quickstep |
DM was just poking fun at me for not having leveled yet. :(
There you are! Don't mind the DM, it's just in his nature to harm characters. Are you interested in any teamwork feats?
Antal Hyrgan |
I'm doing better, in some sense, Randall. My medical issues caused me to have to quit my job, but I'm surviving. Have to admit, the Discussion thread has provided me with quite a number of laughs.
Randall Quickstep |
Antal: We do what we can. OK, the others are much funnier, but I'm glad they make you smile.
Firiel: Bonded Mind sounds interesting if we are scouting separately or if Randall is scouting and wants to report back to the party. Escape Route sounds useful if we are going to be in melee together, but Shielded Caster might be better if you are going to be casting within melee reach. Feint Partner could be promising - I've built up my Bluff bonus and it would be cool for both of us to benefit from a good feint. I might take Improved Feint next time if that becomes a larger part of my attack routine.
Just tossing out ideas.
Kobold Catgirl |
I've rewritten my skills at last, and chosen a feat: Discordant Voice. Considering all the demons we face, a little sonic damage seems like it might come in handy.
Also, I'm thinking I'll stick with elves for Favored Enemy.
Njord Bjornson |
Elves and evil outsiders both seem like solid choices.
Kobold Catgirl |
Elves and chaotic outsiders are the two I'm weighing, but honestly, Xiddik is only decent in melee as an elf killer. Even if I invested my FE into demons, she'd still likely be better off performing and casting when a demon pops in. The +2 is better-placed keeping her in peak elf-killing condition.
Njord Bjornson |
Were-Njord is already lebeled.

I'm back from my trip. Randall is only needing his feat selected. Firiel hasn't let me know her preference from the conversation above or if there's something else she has in mind.
Fíriel Goldworthy |
My apologies, Randall.
I like Bonded Mind from a roleplay standpoint, but it doesn't do much for us with the line of sight restriction... if we can see each other, we can sign to each other (unless we're under surveillance or something).
I think Feint Partner would be fun, but I'd also be up for Escape Route. Shielded Caster isn't really necessary yet; Fíriel has a really high concentration check for casting defensively.
DM Oladon |
I apologize, you guys... I'm going to need to post your update tomorrow night.
In the meantime, could someone post a plan of some sort for your approach to the stronghold?
Randall Quickstep |
No problem, Firiel. Let's go with Feint Partner this level. Escape Route and Improved Feint may come later.
I will post the leveled-up Randall tomorrow. I can barely keep my eyes open at the moment.
Njord Bjornson |
As we're once again approaching the holiday season, I encourage all my DMs to make sure their Paizo wish list is up to date. For reasons.
Kobold Catgirl |
There are four demons who have constant true seeing, and of them, two—the glabrezu and nalfeshnee—are well within our CR levels.
But the range of the True Seeing is only 120 feet (just as a fairly minor precaution—Xiddik knows she's at the level where casters with true seeing are a problem), so unless someone stands right underneath, the trick just might hold up for a round or two.
For the record, while I don't have a map, Xiddik is placing the illusion as far away from the gate as she can manage.
DM Oladon |
My apologies, you guys... post is going to have to wait until tomorrow. Been a very busy week and a half.

If you're wondering what that's about, see here.

Cool, Oladon! Colors! And will others see these, even if they're not using the same browser, or if they don't have PCT installed?
Fiery ifrit likes this color! Are there other colors? Maybe yellow? Or orange? This is awesome.
You need to add instructions in the 'How to format your text' spoiler for underline - or maybe you don't.

It's in there. Check next to bold, italic, and strikethrough.
In answer to your question, no, people who don't have the extension won't be able to see the colors; they'll just see the tags. Those who don't want to see either the tags or the colors should install the extension and disable that feature...
Randall: You may need to restart the browser and/or visit your Options page.

Hmm, rebooted and visited the Options page. I don't see anything about the new features, so I guess I'm looking in the wrong place.
DM Oladon |
Are you on Chrome or Firefox, Randall? Can you check which version of the extension you've got installed?
Ash, I don't know why, but I'll try to troubleshoot soon -- Thursday, probably. In the meantime, if you could grab the value of "campaigns" from localStorage and email that to me again, that'd be swell.
Asht'el |
I see Randall's first line of text as red, so his tags are right.
And DMO - you really want to troubleshoot this on Thanksgiving? I'll be out playing on the beach, which is what we do in my house on Turkey Day (we have our local grocery store cook us a turkey and fixin's, I make a couple of pies and some cranberry sauce, and we just reheat food after a day on the beach with friends). So a different day might be better, but I'll email you that info, which I think is where the trouble is.
Randall Quickstep |

Firefox
Extension 1.26.1
It's not a big deal for me.
DM Oladon |
Randall, you'll need version 1.27 to have the tags work.
You'll probably need to download the xpi file I linked directly and then drag it onto the Firefox window to install (and then give it permission when it asks)... I'm working on getting the new version up in the Mozilla store, but they're requesting a few changes before allowing the new version up there.
Ash: Thanksgiving this year is gonna be at home and pretty small, so I'll probably have time. 'sides, I enjoy coding. :)
