Variel Nightstorm
|
Seijiro
Seijiro chants in Minkaian: "Dokoni ite mo detekurudetekuru"
He stands ready to attack whenever the foe appears.
Horatio Flynn
GM - I think we are all "holding action" until the ninja appears, hoping we can attack him using our readied action (I know I am).
I don't know if anyone else is doing that, but it seems likely, though I could be wrong. That said - what can we expect next while we wait?
Dhaavan
Back From Work
Dhaavan If Create Pit will break dhaavan's Invisibility, then he Readies an Action to cast Hydraulic Push on the Ninja to prevent him from getting off an attack by smashing him away from his target with water in the moment he appears.
CMB check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Well, if i go that route, then that dude'll go flying!
Dhaavan makes a pit right about where the Ninja was (catching the spider which will have to save and the squares to the right of the spider and ninja) hoping that it was jsut a trick that confounded his pet, and that the assassin will fall victim to the pit, to otherwise be forced to reveal himself.
ASFC: 1d100 ⇒ 20 pass
DC 16 reflex save
Spider's Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
DM Immortal
The area of the spell would normally break invisibility if it contains an enemy. If you just did it in the middle of a room however and then someone got pushed into it, that would not break it because you are not attacking directly. Hydraulic push however will definitely break it.
DM Immortal
Horatio, holding action is different than readying an action for a particular circumstance. If you are readying an action I need to know that. For instance, Seijiro, Dhaavan, and Variel are all readying actions to do certain things. Are you readying or delaying? If you are readying are you readying a shot for when the assassin reveals himself or at some other trigger?
DM Immortal
You all suddenly see lights coming from Sandara and Adular's room.
Rain, you hear a sending from Neko ...strange...
Rain Taneththir
Upon the communication of "strange" by Neko, Rain responds telepathically with, //Why strange? What is happening? If there is danger, get out of there!//
To her comrades, she quietly shares Neko's brief transmission, "Whatever is happening in there, Neko says it is 'strange'. Earlier Neko told me Sandara was 'sleeping' and not 'awake'."
Jack Thrush
Jack Flits away from Dhaavan and hites himself in the shadown of the window ad peaks in at the lights at the behest of his master who is holding his action, waiting to blast the ninja with violent conjured water. Dhaavan's holding for Hydrolic Push.
stealth: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (6) + 18 = 24
Jack looks in the window at the lights, ready to relay his findings to the idiot-charmer.
Neko the Golden
Neko is looking from her hiding place, as instructed by Rain earlier.
Neko's Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Neko's Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Seijiro
I'll be out most of tonight - going to a play... Imm, if you need to bot Seijiro to keep things moving - feel free... just roll me crits like you do for the baddies!!! ;)
Horatio Flynn

Ahh. Apologies; I have readied an action to attck the basterd when he appears. My weapon is ready; that is why I only took a "Move Action" earlier and have the action ready.
That said, I'm waiting for something to happen.
DM Immortal
Jack sees what looks like a vaguely humanoid shape made of flitting lights moving slowly towards the sleeping form of Sandara.
Variel Nightstorm
|
Glad to have you back Imm. Hope everything is going well.
Variel stands up slowly body protesting his actions. Yet he knew he had to act to see what was going on and to end this assassin's life. Upon reaching a standing position Variel casts his shield spell and 5' steps over to his belt.
DM Immortal
Since dhaavan might not check tonight.
Neko sends another message that says ...light...Sandara...
Seijiro
Seeing lights coming from Sandara's room, Seijiro, suspicious, moves over toward the door and flings it open, hoping not to find Sandara in an embarrassing moment...
DM Immortal
You look in Seijiro and see a humanoid shaped series of glowing lights moving towards Sandara's motionless form.
Seijiro
Seijiro growls momentarily, then shouts "SANDY!!! Wake up!! 'WARE!!!" And readies an action to attack the foe if he appears in melee range.
Dhaavan
Wow, I got nuthin, yall. No idea what to do right now... what is going ON?
Sensing Jack's confusion, Dhaavan moves to look through the door Jiro opened
spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Harmless spell, may be a distraction. Let's see what's next with this bastard
Dhaavan keeps his action to Hydrolic Push Readied as to blast the Ninja. Hopefully it's not going for the captain right now...
DM Immortal
1d20 + 13 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 13 - 4 = 16
Seijiro and Dhaavan, you both feel a sting in the back of your neck and when you reach around to pull out whatever hit you, you see a black fletched needle has struck you. You immediately begin to feel your eyes slide closed as the poison takes over you which you immediately begin to fight.
I need fortitude saves from both of you.
The ninja appears again and is now up standing next to the wheel and is holding a blowgun.
Anyone who had readied a ranged attack may take it although I think Horatio was the only one besides Dhaavan but the ninja is outside the Hydraulic Push's range.
Seijiro
Seijiro does his best to fight off the urge to just close his eyes and sleep.
fort save, hope this makes it: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Seijiro
Seijiro pulls out the dart with a soft curse in Minkaian, wishing the ninja into the deepest pits of Hei Feng's hell beneath the seas. He turns his attention to the now-visible assassin, hoping the fellow is finally out of the power to turn invisible again.
not taking an action, because I think Flynn had a readied action with a ranged attack, AND Seijiro and Dhaavan just had move actions, leaving Variel and Rain behind by an action I think. Just let me know when Seijiro CAN go again :)
Variel Nightstorm
|
Variel took his action by standing up, casting shield and 5ft step to his belt. If he is behind a turn, cast bear's endurance and pick up belt.
Rain Taneththir
Please remember that Rain activated her Freebooter's Bane and at the time you were all within 30 ft of her (to see or hear her). She and her allies have gained a +1 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against the ninja assassin.
Rain Taneththir
Round 8
Having heard Neko talk about lights and Sandara through her disjointed telepathy, Rain barely had time to absorb the meaning before the ninja assassin appeared at the wheel - her wheel - and anger brewed deep inside Rain.
She runs forward and jumps up onto the level that houses the Lady's wheel. (I have no idea how high it is.)
using Acrobatics to Jump up: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 (DC4=1 ft, DC8=2 ft, DC12=3 ft, DC16=4 ft, Greater than 4 ft=+4/foot)
Landing at the square to the left of the assassin, she attacks with her bespelled cutlass,
Attack with Lead Bladed Cutlass on Ninja: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 1 = 20
Damage, if hit: 2d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 + 1 = 11
I'm not sure if she can do all this in a round - just let me know, please.
HP: 29/39 (Healing Judgement still in effect)
AC: 16
2 first level Inquisitor spells expended: 2 x CLW
1 first level Ranger spell expended: Lead Blades
1 CMW potion used.
Dhaavan
Not sure why i'm that close, but if that's the onl way to see into the room, that's fine...
Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
even with my +2 v poison guess it's g'night. wake me up later.
DM Immortal
Rain, normally you wouldn't be able to do that with that roll as you are going up 10' but it's a cool visual here that doesn't do anything so why not lol.
Rain lands on the deck next to the assassin and slashes out with her cutlass, unfortunately missing.
I think we just need Horatio's readied action.
Horatio Flynn
Readied action goes off before Rain’s attack; ninja is not in melee.
All modifiers and penalties calculated; including Freebooters Bane.
Attack with Grit Point against touch attack
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
If it hits –
1d8 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Edit: Re Seijiro's singing Horatio would have an extra +1 to damage for a net of "9", instead of 8.
Seijiro
Rain - did you remember that Seijiro is singing, giving you a +1 to hit and damage?... Imm, IF she forgot the inspiration, that would give her a 21 to hit - would that change the result? I can hope...
Dhaavan
Lol, my save was a 14 cause i forgot to add my +2 resistance bonus from the cloak i'm wearing. Need to get that in my Char sheet
SO now i'm not guaranteed to be put to sleep, but dunno. Imm?
Rain Taneththir
Jiro, I did not include the +1 to attack and damage due to the singing. I forgot your character did that earlier. Immortal, would the +1 make a difference?
DM Immortal
blammo! Lights out b!%!
Horatios shot blasts through the ninjas head, killing him where he stands. You all look around, amazed at the carnage wrought by one person.
Seijiro
"Nice shot!" Ending his bardic performance, Seijiro walks over toward Sandara to make sure she is okay and merely sleeping., since she didn't awaken at all the noise.
"Wake up, Sandara... please?" He shakes her gently if she still is unmoving.
DM Immortal
As you shake Sandara's shoulder she is unresponsive but you are able to see the fletching of 3 darts similar to the one that struck your neck. They are clustered in a single area and seemed to have been thrust in together. Knowing a bit about poisons you know this would have made it much more difficult to resist.
Seijiro
Seeing the darts, Seijiro sighs and calls out for Adular to come tend to Sandara..."Adular, Sandara's succumbed to the ninja's poison... you might want to see to her, make sure she's going to be okay."
He exits the cabin and looks around at the others... then goes to where the crew are locked in... Tries to open the lock there and release them so Flynn doesn't have to shoot it again.
disable device: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
well that roll sucked, they're probably still locked below with a roll like that... lol
Variel Nightstorm
|
Hearing the gunshot, Variel casts his spell of berar's endurance and grabs his belt on the way out of the door. Pausing momentarily to strap the belt on Variel rushes up to confront the assassin only to see that the gunshot caused what appeared to be a third shot through the skull. Not wanting to take any chances of regenerative powers, Variel draws his cutlass and severs the head clean from the neck. Seeing that Jiro is a lady on his way to free the sailors, Variel looks around to see how the others fared. It looked like Adular was still down but Dhaavan had his mark on him to bring him up soon. Everyone else seemed to have faired better than himself at least. The next task Variel wants done is to have the ship searched top to bottom to find if there are any other accomplices or damage done. Hopefully the crew will be free soon to perform such duties. Assuming Jiro takes 20 if needed on the lock.
Variel Nightstorm
|
Once those actions have taken place or at least are being carried ou by the crew to search the ship, Variel motions to Adular and the others once they are available. Nice going guys. Flynn I assume you placed that final shot, well done. The problem though and it is from my own doing as well is how to figure out what he all knew about us and how. To that end, Adular is it possible that your can gt the dead to talk and coerce it to answer basic questions for us, similar to what a witch did in port? Otherwise, Rain, Jiro and Flynn, see what you can determine about his garb, weapons, and equipment to see if that tells us more about him. I think. All suspect it is the same group as before, just better prepared and better equipped this time around. It would be nice to know for sure though and not have a second group after us.
Rain Taneththir
Var, Rain was standing right next to the assassin.
Before Rain had opportunity to cut off the assassin's head, Variel strode out of his cabin and with grim determination struck the head clean off the ninja's body. All Rain could do was step back quickly lest she get the gore on her from the force of Variel's blade. He did not say a word to her and so she remained equally silent. Almost dying had perhaps rendered him oblivious to her presence and his voice.
She would give order to have the body and head tossed overboard once she searched the assassin's body for evidence to his mission or anything of value on him.
Rain bent down to search the body, keeping away from the bloody neck and severed head sitting a little away from the body.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15 Maybe with this poor roll, Rain could aid another in the searching of the body. Shrugs.
Rain Taneththir
Upon hearing Variel give order to search the body, Rain shook her head a little as she had already started doing so yet she did not contradict the captain in front of the others.
Instead she allowed Flynn, Jiro or one of the others a chance to examine the body and determine what they could from it.
Rain called out to Neko, through their telepathic link, and asked the golden cat to come out of hiding and join her on deck.
Turning to Flynn, she asks him, "Have you examined Sandara? How is she? And, that was a fine, clean shot felling the assassin."
Horatio Flynn
Horatio reloads his weapon and will move first to Sandara to examine the body.
As he does, he calls out briskly.
”Rain, are you are alright? Dhaavan, are you well?” his tone seems curt, but he does not mean to be rude, he feels that time is of the essence and is moving quickly.
Without pausing to examine Sandara, he places a hand on her and casts Stabilize to attempt to prevent any further damage that the poison may already be doing.
Then he will see to her condition and determine if she is alive. If she seems to be breathing at all, he will immediately cast Cure Light Wounds on her to help neutralize any damage the poison may be doing.
Cure light wounds
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
If she is not alive, he will not cast the spell, but will proceed with the following in either case.
He gently lifts one of the darts and studies it, examining the tip of the dart, seeking to observe if the poison was like a resin which was used to coat the tip, or if it was designed to inject the poison like a wasps’ sting.
He will also examine the wound itself near Sandara’s neck, looking to see what (if any) type of discoloration has occurred around the wounds. Does the skin appear yellow, like jaundice? Does it appear dark blue or black, as if the blood vessels had burst and were bruised internally? Are the wounds splotchy? Do they look as if there is seepage, like pus? Is there no significant mark near the wound, other than the specific wounds from the needle?
In short, he is attempting to see if the poison can be identified; he wants to know what it is.
Not sure what is better here; knowledge of poisons or a heal check or Alchemy (used to craft poisons); either way, I’m attempting to find out what it is.
Craft: Alchemy
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Craft: Poison
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Heal
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Once he knows more about Sandara’s condition, he will take his next action.
Rain Taneththir
A little retcon, before Rain asks Flynn how Sandara is.
Rain calls down to Flynn, "I am injured, but it is not serious. There are others more deserving of your time and medical attention. I cast a healing judgement and my body is healing itself slowly over time."
Rain goes back to the task of searching the dead assassin's body.
Rain's current HP: 30/39.
Seijiro
Seijiro, if he hasn't released the men will take a bit more care and open the hold taking 10 which still only takes a round, for a total of 23 then walks over to the assassin.
He looks down at the headless body and casts 'detect magic', removing anything with an aura from the body, then examining it for other non-magical valuables... or anything that might indicate the origin of the assassin or who hired him.
He strips the items from the ninja's remains and makes a pile of what he found, but leaves the body and head for someone else to examine as well, just to make sure he didn't miss anything among the gore.
perception, if necessary: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Horatio Flynn
"I am injured, but it is not serious. There are others more deserving of your time and medical attention. I cast a healing judgement and my body is healing itself slowly over time."
Hearing that Rain seems alright, and that Dhaavan does not look overly ill from the poison, he lets out a relieved expulsion of air from his lungs as he attempts to digest what type of poison the assassin may have used.
She seems alright, and shows no signs of being poisoned as well. That's good...
Then his eyes narrow as he examines Sandara, and he frowns at her condition.
Not entirely sure what I can do; I don’t know if she is alive or not, so that complicates my next action.
Hearing Rain, a thought crosses his mind quickly and he turns back to look at her and speaks to her.
”Rain, I’m trying to find out what is going on with Sandara, but I am concerned about the others below. If it is possible, do you think you could go see how Amen-set and Piper are doing, and the other sailors as well?” he asks her, his face still tense from the attack.
”If you go, please be careful; there may still be another assassin below decks. As of now we do not know how many have come aboard, or how they got on board in the first place… ” he adds, his eyes still checking on Sandara’s vital signs.
While he attempts to discern the nature of the poison, he tosses a quick glance to Adular and Variel. He knows that the priest is alive and moving that he can attend to healing better than he can and that if any need healing, Horatio will trust to Adular to see to it. As for himself, he will not use another healing spell this night, unless it is to aid a fallen healer, for he does not have many and feels it is best to conserve them for people such as Adular or Sandara as they can heal large groups by channelling the power of their deity.
Rain Taneththir
"Once I am done with the body, I will go in search of them."
After her examination of the body and what articles, items etc the assassin was carrying, Rain stands and makes her way below deck to go in search of Amen-set, Piper and any others. Casting light on her cutlass once more, Rain proceeds down from the wheel and then down the stairs toward Flynn's quarters. She takes the necessary precautions, lest there are more assassins onboard the Lady.
Neko the Golden
There is a momentary but swift blur of golden fur following Rain. Neko, out of her hiding place in Sandara's quarters, moves with stealth and agile grace to give aid and/or protection to Rain.
Neko's Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Neko's Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Horatio Flynn
Horatio's eyes flick up and he watches Rain enter the depths of the ship.
"Thank you... and be careful," he calls after her.
We have several new lads below... how many of them are also traitors?
He absently brushes a lock of Sandara's hair from her forehead, his eyes flat.
He wonders at what other surprises the assassin may have brought with him.
Precautions must be taken, of course, but that should be easy. I wonder how Dhaavan is faring; he was struck by one of those darts, as was the boy from Minkai...
He leans back on his haunches, wracking his mind for the type of poison that it may be.
Gods damn, I am weary...
Variel Nightstorm
|
Sorry Rain, with a readied action going off I wasn't sure if you would still take e same action once the assassin was dropped. Wanted to make sure no surprises were left.
Turning to Rain, My apologies, my dear Rain. In my haste to avenge my spilled blood I have acted poorly towards you. If it weren't for you I would not have risen from the floor of the cabin.
Rain Taneththir
Rain and Flynn both got to act that round and Flynn tossed up that he went first (after I had already posted) .. so yeah .. I still went with my own actions since I had already undertaken them. Shrugs.
A little retcon (sorry for yet another one) because Rain went down below to search for Amen-set and Piper after she had searched the assassin's body.
Looking up from her task, Rain gazes at Variel for a long moment before slowing inclining her head, acknowledging his apology and gratitude for her aid. Her reply is soft but he hears it, "I could not let you die, Var." And she adds, "If it had not been for Neko's warning, both of us could have suffered worse. Once Sandara is back on her feet, you should seek further healing. My magic was not enough."
