Filbert Springbit |
GM I think I wiped the map background, was trying to scroll across it to find Filbert and the background disappeared. Took a bit to figure out I had to go back to my phone to get the back button to work. Sorry for the confusion all.
DM Fang Dragon |
Filbert it looks like whatever happened didn't get saved, so no worries!
@Lizzie the new Healers Handbook has a bunch of very interesting options for paladins. Check out the new mercies. They'll be pretty useful in this campaign.
Momijii |
I did get a new post up in the dream threads, thought I'd finished that off already. I think the post might have been eaten originally.
DM Fang Dragon |
As I said before, you are near the end of book 1. You'll probably notice I've dropped the fear and madness rules. I liked the idea of them but I think they add too much bookkeeping. What do you think?
Speaking of optional rules this alternative action economy looks pretty interesting and would make combat more fluid. Might not be to everyone's taste and I'd only introduce that if you all wanted to try it.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Yeah I was kinda wondering about that. I still like the idea of periodic Will Saves vs fear (and the GM can add bonuses/negatives based on character traits) Consequences for failed saves could be
Shaken for 1d4 hours
-2 to a skill or stat due to exhaustion/fatigue/terror
-2 to particular saves
having to make a Will save or spend combat rounds cowering in terror
re the action economy. I'm ok with field testing it. Seems easy enough to understand. Really, it just means moving and attacking more than once is possible.
DM Fang Dragon |
Yeah I think something slimmed down like that makes sense Heinrich. In the later books the great old ones get directly involved and those are mind bendingly terrifying.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
That's how Fear works in Savage Worlds and I like the system.
Filbert Springbit |
I'm cool with the fear system you choose, have to admit after a few days in real life I'm just as likely to forget about the penalty in the heat of the moment while posting.
The 1d4 hours makes sense for the penalty, in the moment, everything would be heightened and as the event that precipitated it fades from memory you'd drop off a bit and eventually return back to you're normal.
I'm good trying the action economy as well just need to read through it a couple of more times to get it straight in my head. Tired and not putting it all together straight at the moment.
BTW our volleyball club sponsors a tournament this weekend, will be tied up quite a bit Friday evening thru Sunday evening. Should still post daily though, but bot me if holding things up.
DM Fang Dragon |
Re LoH optimization, there is the Greater Mercy feat for +1d6 when the mercy wasn't triggered. There is Tiefling FCB for +1 hp/level, Fae Foundling for +2 hp / dice. There's something new I can't remember the name of that turns 1s into 2s for the dice rolls. There is also VMC Order of the star cavelier. Kicks in late but it all stacks for ludicrous LoH.
There are also items like the bracers of the merciful Knight.
Lizzie "beads" Tamar |
I find the Fae foundling to be cheap.
Mechanically wise it's good, don't get me wrong.
When i see paladins (or ora-dins for that matter) with it, lacking any connection at all, to being a foundling/orphan/fae connected in their backstory...that's just.....no, for me.
It is the reason i wouldn't take it, if my PC didn't meet one of those criteria.
Filbert Springbit |
Sorry for the delay all, has been an extremely busy weekend, if you enjoy volleyball, please enjoy the shots from this past weekend on FB @ Myrtle Madness Volleyball 2017
Apologies again for holding anything up
DM Fang Dragon |
Looks like we will be the first PbP on these boards to finish book one. There are a couple of other tables with nearly as many posts as us but nowhere near the progress. Lot of party RP mind you (which is nice too).
DM Fang Dragon |
Yeah. There is another Iron Gods table on page one too, not sure what chapter they are on.
Incidentally since we are using ABP that
ring is really nice.
Luxina Tenebris |
Good thing I bought Pathfinder Unchained recently, now I don't need to look it up online anymore for those rules.
Also, please enlighten us how that ring becomes so nice as I don't have my book with me at this point.
DM Fang Dragon |
It's just a neat item that would normally be overlooked. Usually everyone would be lusting after a +stat belt or a magic weapon so it would get vendored. Also it's vying for a slot with a Ring of Protection (which doesn't exist in ABP).
Lizzie "beads" Tamar |
Hey guys.
From Saturday 22nd of April, i will be traveling through Japan, returning somewhere on the 13th of May.
There is said to be Wifi in the hotels we'll be staying at, but i can't guarantee a 1 a/day post.
For the games that i GM, this means we'll be on a break during that time.
Filbert Springbit |
GM, just as an FYI, Filberts base hp is 27 + the additional 5hp that will regenerate within 3 minutes is his force ward. so he should be at 19hp, granted that won't last long with too many hits like the last one. :) he also has 9hp NL, and short legs don't run very fast :)
DM Fang Dragon |
I'd recommend waking Filbert up or this will take ages.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Agrippa will be doing that next turn, unfortunately hes gonna probably take one or more AoOs....
Lizzie "beads" Tamar |
Momiji, did you pick that name because it sounded asian?
Because yesterday i read what the word means.
Autumn Leaves, according to a information sign of a japanese shrine.
Momijii |
It's actually the name of the Dead or Alive character I found the image from. I liked it so I kept it.
DM Fang Dragon |
According to the spell description for Sleep sound is not sufficient. Agrippa would know this.
DM Fang Dragon |
Welcome to level four, please post character updates here. Meanwhile let's RP things out in the Gameplay thread and somebody go find the loot, the book is important for the plot.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Excellent.

Studied Combat (Ex)
With a keen eye and calculating mind, an investigator can assess the mettle of his opponent to take advantage of gaps in talent and training. At 4th level, an investigator can use a move action to study a single enemy that he can see. Upon doing so, he adds 1/2 his investigator level as an insight bonus on melee attack rolls and as a bonus on damage rolls against the creature. This effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to his Intelligence modifier (minimum 1) or until he deals damage with a studied strike, whichever comes first. The bonus on damage rolls is precision damage, and is not multiplied on a critical hit.
An investigator can only have one target of studied combat at a time, and once a creature has become the target of an investigator's studied combat, he cannot become the target of the same investigator's studied combat again for 24 hours unless the investigator expends one use of inspiration when taking the move action to use this ability.
Studied Strike (Ex)
At 4th level, an investigator can choose to make a studied strike against the target of his studied combat as a free action, upon successfully hitting his studied target with a melee attack, to deal additional damage. The damage is 1d6 at 4th level, and increases by 1d6 for every 2 levels thereafter (to a maximum of 9d6 at 20th level). The damage of studied strike is precision damage and is not multiplied on a critical hit; creatures that are immune to sneak attacks are also immune to studied strike.
If the investigator's attack used a weapon that deals nonlethal damage (like a sap, whip, or an unarmed strike), he may choose to have the additional damage from studied strike be nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. If the investigator chose to make an attack with a lethal weapon instead deal nonlethal damage (with the usual –4 penalty), the studied strike damage may also deal nonlethal damage.
The investigator must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. An investigator cannot use studied strike against a creature with concealment.
Cultic Study (Ex)
A cult hunter can spend 8 hours studying a specific deity or religion to gain a +1 bonus on Bluff, Intimidate, Knowledge, Perception, and Sense Motive checks against followers of that deity or religion and against extraplanar creatures.
These bonuses increase by 1 for every 4 investigator levels beyond 4th. If he studies a new deity or religion, the bonuses replace the former bonuses.
This ability replaces swift alchemy.
Cult Combat (Ex)
A cult hunter’s bonuses on attack and damage rolls when using studied combat increase by 1 against followers of the cult he chose with his cultic study ability and decrease by 1 against other targets.
This ability alters studied combat.
Cult Strike (Ex)
A cult hunter’s studied strike uses d8s for the bonus damage against targets that belong to the cult he’s studied. Against other targets, his studied strike uses d4s for the bonus damage.
This ability alters studied strike.

Draconic Fury (Su) At 3rd level, the scaled fist has gains the elemental fury ki power.
This ability replaces the ki power normally gained at 4th level.
Elemental Fury (Su) A monk who selects this ki power must select one type of energy: acid, cold, electricity, or fire. Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed. The monk can expend 1 point from his ki pool as a swift action to imbue his natural attacks with this energy, causing them to deal 1d6 points of damage of the chosen type for a number of rounds equal to 1/2 his monk level. A monk must be at least 6th level before selecting this ki power.
Should have had the above last level, I misread how it worked for unchained monk, choosing fire.
Draconic Mettle (Su) At 4th level, a scaled fist gains a +2 bonus on saving throws attempted against all fear, paralysis, and sleep effects.
This ability replaces the still mind ability.

DM Fang Dragon |
Don't forget your attunements folks!
Momijii |
Doh! Forgot about ABP. Mine is easy, clothing gets the armor and unarmed strike the weapon. Adding them now.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Yes, Attunement is for Red Destiny and my Studded Armor.
DM Fang Dragon |
A word on torture, basically in the real world it mostly doesn't work because the victim will say whatever they think you want to hear.
This cultist pretty much deserved what he got so there won't be any immediate alignment consequences but if a pattern is set... Anyway as a reminder fate has given you all a second chance, each of you was very very bad before. I think resisting the siren call of evil could make for some interesting RP if you want to play that way but remember we have a paladin in the party.
Momijii |
*bows*
Hai Dragon-san.
Luxina Tenebris |
Sorry about my absence, my pc had broken down.
Finally got the 'temporary' access to my pc again and I'm trying to fix it. I still have some maintenance to do, but hopefully everything will be back in working order soon.
Bot me if needed if you haven't already done so.
Filbert Springbit |

2nd-level extracts
2nd level extracts known: Spider Climb
extra 1st level extract known: True strike
At 4th level, as a standard action, a blazing torchbearer can drop a special blend of explosive powders onto his torch before using it as a weapon. His next successful melee attack with the torch deals an additional 2d6 points of fire damage and sets the target on fire. This attack must be made within 1d4 rounds or the torch prematurely explodes at the end of the blazing torchbearer’s turn, dealing damage to the blazing torchbearer and setting him on fire.
This ability replaces the alchemist’s 4th-level discovery.
ABP on my Studded Leather and on my Light Crossbow. Skills +1 to everything except Craft.
Might be a good idea to copy each other's spells Agrippa
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Absolutely Lux, now that we have some coin (not much) we can buy ink to copy formulae.
Luxina Tenebris |
Pc crashed again. Might be able to post coming weeks but only once a day perhaps. Cause I'll be on vacations for two weeks.
Momijii |
Sorry for the delay in posting, I didn't realize I'd let it slip that long. It was unintentional I assure you. I'll deal with Winter's post once I know if I'm there for it when it happens as I'm not sure on the timing.
And yes, I know splitting the party is a bad idea.
DM Fang Dragon |
I've updated the Dramatis Personae a bit. Please let me know if I've missed anyone.
Filbert Springbit |
Apologies all, I am ghosting mainly this week, 27hrs on the clock in the past 2 days and not looking to get much better before Friday. Should be back on regular posting by Friday evening, Saturday morning. Please bot as needed
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Hey, We are having some weather related issues here (I have satellite internet so...) and I'm taking my family on a mini vacation from Thursday-Sunday. The Hotel should have WiFi so I'll try to post daily, but if I don't you know why. If this is a game I'm GMing, I'll be back on Monday for sure. If this is a game I'm playing feel free to bot away.
DM Fang Dragon |
I guess we need to talk about posting rates :( Generally this group has been very good, here and in other games so over all I'm satisfied. Of late things have dropped off a bit which is something I hope we can fix :) I don't want to be a hard ass about it, real life > some game. Besides summer slow downs are not exactly uncommon (saw that every year when I was playing MMOs). I hope we can get back into a 1/day rythm.
Anyway with that said, do we know if Luxina is coming back? I understand there where problems with his PC but it's been quite some time. Obviously I'm hoping Luxina does come back, this AP's plot is much better if I don't have to re-recruit.
