Lord Dunc is a scrapper, he is a Barbarian, Warpriest of Gorum, Skald, Sentinal of Gorum. He does alright damage, he really enjoys dragging enemies across the battlefield which movement provokes from his allies. He enjoys letting his allies rage, sometimes he enjoys letting his enemies rage as well, just to increase the fun of the battle! Excited to play guys!

Yeah, that's because paladins have a penalty if their mount dies! I think that axebeak might have also died during the special a couple years ago but I can't remember now. I don't have good luck with animals.

Marta has two wands she uses regularly but prefers to have someone with more ability cast them. Mage Armor for the obvious reasons, and Shield cast into her ioun stone so that she can activate it in combat. May I get a volunteer for the role of wand meister so that I do not have to role-play the trivial detail/request in gameplay?

A note on standard practices. Marta has a number of long duration spells she generally preps before entering a troubled area. I have them listed in the active conditions already since they are more likely to be active than not, but I include them here:

  • Mage Armor from a wand, so its only one hour
  • Heroism - 80 minutes duration
  • See Invisible - 80 minutes duration
  • Tongues - 80 minutes duration
  • Heightened Awareness - 80 minutes duration and Marta will use it when initiative is requested.
  • Halo - An at will thing that takes a standard action so Marta keeps it going. Lasts 90 minutes before a refresh is needed.

    I'll mark off the spell uses when we get to the mantis location though Marta would cast them about 10 minutes out. If we are ambushed before then, they will not be active and I'll adjust the stats.

    When travelling through a troubled area (such as on the way to a Red Mantis stronghold perhaps?) Marta turns on the Detect Alignment (evil) ability intermittently (as it requires concentration), particularly near potential ambush points.


  • I hadn't checked level ranges before but it looks like you're 8.6.

    Marta, are you aware of the Jingasa nerf? You're the first person I've seen that still has a silly conical hat after the errata.


    Stunning barrier doesn't stack with your jingasa or your cloak of resistance but you forgot heroism on your will saves.

    Also, please do not edit posts in response to my posts. It makes following any sort of narrative confusing and looks like you're fudging your rolls. Please roll those will saves again in a new post with the correct modifiers.

    Wow, I had no idea about the Jingasa. Everything I look at has the old text unless I specifically do a search for jingasa errata.

    What are the rules on that. Are you stuck with the item or can you trade it in when they do an errata that so significantly changes the item?

    Your will saves are still wrong. Stunning Barrier is a resistance bonus to saves. It won't stack with your cloak of resistance.

    Solo Tactics (Ex): At 3rd level, all of the inquisitor's allies are treated as if they possessed the same teamwork feats as the inquisitor for the purpose of determining whether the inquisitor receives a bonus from her teamwork feats. Her allies do not receive any bonuses from these feats unless they actually possess the feats themselves. The allies' positioning and actions must still meet the prerequisites listed in the teamwork feat for the inquisitor to receive the listed bonus.

    Outflank: Whenever you and an ally who also has this feat are flanking the same creature, your flanking bonus on attack rolls increases to +4. In addition, whenever you score a critical hit against the flanked creature, it provokes an attack of opportunity from your ally.

    OK. So explain how the outflank extra attack works with solo tactics. If I have solo tactics and outflank, and am flanking with another character solo tactics specifically says that "Her allies do not receive any bonuses from these feats unless they actually possess the feats themselves." So my ally would not get a free attack if I crit. And you ruled that I would not get a free attack if my ally crits. So it sounds like no one gets a free attack? Is that how it works and I end up with an added +2 to your flank bonus and that's all? If so I may be using a standard action after the battle to switch this one out for precise strike!

    Solo Tactics lets you count your allies as having the feats for purposes of your feats. They don't have the feats themselves.

    If you are flanking with an ally your flanking bonus goes up to +4. If you score a crit against a flanked enemy, that ally gets a free attack. If your ally scores the crit you do not get a free attack. Also, your ally only get the normal +2 flank bonus.

    If you want to swap outflank for precise strike have at it.

    Thanks for looking this up. That's the way I thought it worked. I was never questioning the part about whether the opponent was flanked, I just took your word on that, I just needed to know if in flanking situation Marta gets an extra attack. BTW this has never happened. Flanks are not all that common and having your flanking ally get a crit is not all that common. I was hoping that as levels rose the opportunities would start to come and I want to use her combat reflexes which has also been a disappointment.

    Suggestion: Both Fizz and Lord Dunc have pretty bad ACs. I mean REALLY bad for a high-level game. I had to do a double take on Dunc's 18 AC. Anything that would boost their ACs would be a good thing before they get swarmed again. Hopefully Marta will be too tempting a target for them to resist in spite of their disappointing round.

    Let's not go criticizing each other's numbers. Besides, it's particularly hard for barbarians to keep their ACs up and I've seen even higher level barbarians with just as bad ACs and they do fine by taking different strategies than just pumping up their AC.

    Speaking of which, that just made me realize that I/GM haven't been rolling for Fizz's minor cloak of displacement through the whole fight. I've even got the 20% miss chance noted in his header but was so out of it trying to catch up and then saving Dunc that I completely forgot he had it.

    Please don't think I'm negatively criticizing the character. Nothing is furthest from my mind. But I like to think like a team and a team looks out for each others weaknesses. For example that Touch of Luck was so well appreciated because Marta does not have the plus-to-hits that the other fighters have. THAT is HER weakest point. And the fact that without bane going she hits like a little girl compared to you two. Because of her poor PTH she is hitting less than 50% of the time unless she gets lucky.

    So, again, I'm just suggesting ways for the party members to work together as best as possible. If anyone has suggestions for me, I'm up for them. If you prefer me to keep my suggestions to myself I can do that too. Sometimes I feel a bit presumptuous giving any kind of suggestion because my grasp of the rules is so spotty, but I try, and I learn by trying.

    No, no, suggestions are fine! I know Fizz's AC is great, that's why I invested in the cloak. I thought the miss chance was money better spent than spending an equal amount getting his AC up by a couple points. I just wanted to make sure the tone wasn't too critical, the way some power-gamers will flip out if your AC isn't at least 25 + your level or whatever insane metric some people go by. But I didn't think you were being that way really, but some lesser-experienced players might have taken it that way when you said our ACs were really bad for this level. I knew what you meant though.
