Unless anyone objected, Zane shut door M behind them as they proceeded down the hall (following the arrow), in search of the rest of the Second Story Gang. As before, the priest remains wary of the trap that Azarra had pointed out, making sure to give the suspected block a wide berth as they traveled around the corner.

Zane thought about the Rashemi's words for a moment, then nodded in agreement. The thieves were likely drawing them into this corridor. Surprising those slinking about behind the door behind them might be a better solution.

The priest closed door M behind the group as they made their way over to door K, the party arranging itself as before so that Azarra could open the portal with her spell.

Won't the sneaky ones just come up behind us now anyway? says Azarra, but when she sees that Zane agrees with the plan, she shrugs, smiles, shakes her head, and stops arguing, realizing how much power he has to change her outlook.

The door flies open to reveal a strange room that time seemingly forgot, smelling of dust and mold, choked with gloom and cobweb festooned brick-a-brack. You get the sense this unloved room was once was a dormitory but the beds are long gone, the windows boarded over, the floors a dust-choked nightmare full of rodent droppings and tiny paw marks. Despair lives here...

Survival DC 20:
You notice the slight impression of two pairs of booted footprints leading to the east.

Will Save DC 20:
For a fraction of a second the scene shifts suddenly. The walls are lined with fold down beds, and the piles of rubbish replaced with neat rows of polished lockers. The walls are no longer bare wooden boards, instead you see heavy luxurious wallpaper with a harlequin mask motif. The floor is parquet with luxurious hardwoods and the western end of the room is dominated by a large grey metal safe. As soon as your eyes take this in, the image fades back to the vision of dust and decay.

Azarra moves into the room, nervous about the stealth masters that they left behind them. She enters the disgusting, depressing room, but moves into the corner so that no one can surprise her from the rear, and she keeps her bow out so she can shoot anything she sees.

Azarra nervously moves into the room, some instinct warning her that things where not as they seemed. Suddenly a harsh woman's voice called out angrily, "Kill the interlopers, they defile our house!" Angry murmurs and shouts of affirmation responded from all corners of the room. Five shadows bearing weapons detached themselves from the gloom and advanced with murder in their eyes!

Ser Armithia rushes to Azarra's side and good thing he did too for the guild initiates rush them en mass! Getting lucky two initiates manage to bypass their defenses, lunging with their rapiers. Both Armithia and Azarra feel like they've been punched by something sharp and cold, but this punch drew blood!

At least I prevented flanking. I am starting to think that my sword has the ethereal property, as I can't hit anything....lol.

The knight takes his just do without a flinch (thanks to Zane!). He decides to concentrate on the purple target with Azarra.

Azarra, unable to use her bow this close, draws her sword in case she needs it, but instead of attacking with it, she lashes out with her voice:

Get away from me, murderous rat!

Her insult isn't a very good one, because she isn't great at thinking of them, but unlike normal words, the words of her invective are laced with sonic energy, doing actual physical damage.

So much for the "words will never hurt me" mantra.

Zane flinched as he absorbed some of the damage meant for the brave Ser Armithia, but at least it wasn't as bad as those torturous strikes from the invisible twins earlier. The knight would have perhaps not made it through that fight. Still, those inside seemed sorely pressed, though Kardas seemed to want to make short work of the enemy just inside the doorway.

He had to smile as Azarra shouted and Ishta prodded at her like earlier. The mark of a good team was continued positivity even in times of duress. The priest stepped over the fallen thief in the doorway, pressing the attack along with Ser Armithia against the guild member further from the door (red).

Whispering words of power, Kardas's blade was limned with frost and with two brutal strokes he hewed a guild initiate in two! Stepping over the messy remains, Zane's mace smashes into the initiate just behind the door who screams as bones splinter!

Ishta sends a thin pencil beam of utter cold towards one of the initiates lurking in the back but the frenzy of combat made aiming hard, and initiate moved just a moment too soon.

Ser Armithia steps up to aid Azarra, his blade scoring a long cut along the initiate's back.

The initiates counter attack in a frenzy of stabs and thrusts, but miraculously they almost all miss. Only Ser Armithia got hit, but it was barely a scratch once Zane had shared the pain with him.

Zane gritted his teeth against the pain as Ser Armithia was struck again, thankful that the man's armor kept out the worst of the potential strike. Seeing no way tactically to retreat without exposing himself or someone else, the priest instead concentrates on culling their foes.

He squinted as Azarra's sonic magic assaulted his sensibilities, but still managed a smile at what she said. What a positive woman...he was glad to find someone so full of life! His companions, as well.

Is attacking 'around' the corner from the doorway an option? If so, I assume the enemy has cover. In case that isn't possible, Kardas will step back and protect Ishta while assuming a full defense stance (+4 AC/CMD)

Kardas roars as his companions are still anything but safe from the Maskite threat. However, what his senses fail to perceive those of his familiar do pick up: sounds from the south. Reinforcements? Must be.

The swordmage throws in one more attack before turning around and stepping up to protect Ishta from whatever might be coming their way. "Get behind me, Thayan, trouble is coming," bites Kardas with a voice that's taut with worry and combat stress.

Despite the lightness of Azarra's words, her voice in close proximity causes the guild initiate tremendous pain!

Kardas:
Your familiar notices the presence of several people behind the party. Speaking of your familiar I'm going to try and get time to look at that link you found.

Alerted to the danger, Kardas tries to attack one of the initiates behind the door. His frost limed blade flashed out in a powerful strike, but the door frame got in the way and wood chips rather than blood went flying. Moving south he puts himself between Ishta and the danger from the south! Technically that would invoke an AOO but I think they'll probably miss given your shield and the +4 from cover.

Zane's brings his mace down hard towards the initiates head, she futilely tries to parry but there was too much force behind it. The mace impacted her head with a sickening wet crunch and she collapsed down onto the floor, dead.

Ishta whispers a word of power, preparing Kardas for the fight ahead!

In a panicked frenzy the remaining initiates try to pummel the watchers of dawn, but their attacks where pitiful in the most part. Azarra simply stepped aside, Ser Armithia's armor was indomitable. Zane however was a little less lucky, he manged to parry one thrust but the imitate managed to score a nasty ragged cut down his forearm.

Zane winced as his mace crushed the head of the initiate he had been fighting, the lapse in concentration lowering his guard enough for the other to score a hit. The priest steeled his jaw, aware of the adversaries now approaching from the south but thinking that their best bet was to finish up this pocket of foes before moving en masse to engage the others. He silently wished Ishta and Kardas luck as he swung his mace again in a heavy arc towards the already-injured initiate, trying to bring the number of enemies down.

To the south, the armored crossbow woman steps through the now open door and fires at Ishta, gazing her neck. Half an inch the other way, yikes!

Ser Armithia slashes with his sword, but the initiate dodges aside.

In desperation, knowing death is staring them in the face, the initiates counterattack. The one fighting Azarra feints high before lunging low with her rapier, which pierces Azarra's belly with a terrible coldness followed by a wrenching fire as the weapon is yanked out. And then to Azarras' horror she does it again! Likewise Zane's defenses are outfoxed as the initiates gang up on him! He manages to deflect several of their strokes, but one sneaks thtough and his life blood starts flowing before his eyes.

The initiates were beginning to fight with zeal and desperation, and Zane couldn't help but let out a grunt of pain as another strike snuck through his defenses. He vacillated for a moment between trying to strike the initiate again or calling upon Lathander for his healing grace, but Azarra's cries of pain on the other side of Ser Armithia make his mind up for him. He squeezed the pink disc in his shield hand, projecting his faith and will into it.

"Morninglord, please grant your servant your power so that we can continue to put down this den of vice!"

Azarra's words flay more of the poor initiate's skin, sending a spray of blood on the far wall. Amazingly despite being covered from head to toe in blood, the initiate manages to stay on her feet! She's got 2 hp left...

Kardas tries an overhead strike, thinking to smash the maskite with his new found size, but the ceiling gets in the way. Don't forget you get reach with enlarge.

Zane invokes the name of the Morninglord and a ruddy light reminiscent of the first rays of dawn flashes across the battlefield, causing the parties wounds to evaporate like the morning dew!

With Kardas in her face once more, the armored crossbow woman has no choice but to drop her weapon and draw her scimitar. Once more she proves to be highly adept, cutting open a long slice down Kardas's left thigh!

When Ser Armithia's sword cleaved the imitates head clean off it was arguably a mercy for she had been torn to shreds by the sharp side of Azarra's tongue.

Ishata looks for protection at Kardas's side and casts a spell which eggs him on!

The remaining two initiates continue their assault on Zane. He's able to fend off most of their blows one of them managed to score nasty hit, lunging straight through his thigh and out the other side. The pain of which was excruciating!
