Thetin grits his teeth as Kelden pulls out the quills. "Thank you Kelden."

As they approach the library Thetin keeps Radiance in his hand in case the people inside are enemies instead of allies. As such Thetin also prepares to cast detect evil on any who are inside just in case as well.

Kyra lets out a sigh of relief as Kelden's healing energy washes over her body and soothes the still bleeding puncture wound in her forearm. "Thank you, brother Kelden." She smiles as she puts her bow away and retrieves her blade from the ground, checking the edge for dings before wiping it clean.

Once at the library she describes the scene to the blind elven wizard until they hear the sounds of voices coming from what remains of the once great Blackwing. Suddenly she notices Kelden approach the building and call out to the occupants and winces at his lack of caution!

The dervish rushes up to her friend, staying out of sight to one side of the doors. She makes a mental note to smack Kelden upside the head for this later and prayers those inside are survivors of Kenabres and not enemies...

Carilain feels his strength return as Sarenrae's radiance bathes him. He wishes that the howling noise inside his head would stop though.

"Thank you Kelden. Without you and the Dawnflower we would have died by now."

Carilain cases his bow and draws his hammer. He hopes the owner of the voice is friendly, but it's best to be ready for anything.

When Aravashnial learns of the building's destruction, he becomes despondent, collapsing to his knees in despair.
"No! Gone, they're all gone..."

Moving through the door you find five frightened librarians cowed- four of them bound hand and foot in the center of the room, while the fifth, a weeping woman, is being forced to make a ring of books stacked around the four.

You spot one of the books stacked in the ring surrounding the librarians is a damaged wizard's spellbook. The few legible remaining pages contain the following spells: alarm, dismissal, dispel magic, magic circle against chaos, resist energy, and versatile weapon. The spellbook is worth 700 gp. While looking through the book a parchment scroll of dimensional lock is found folded up and tucked into the book's pages.

While looking through the rubble turns up a half-dozen leathery gray strips of what appears at first to be flesh, but that, upon closer examination, looks to be dried worms of some sort, about as long as a human finger.

DC 15 Knowledge (nature):

The worms are of no known species from the natural world.

Fenna, the librarian who was forced to stack the books, and the other librarians thank you profusely for saving them; they point out the spellbook and give it to you as a reward for the rescue.

The librarians relate a sad tale, Blackwing was destroyed by a horrific abomination-a man made of worms who used magic and enslaved demons to smash the structure down. They suspect that the worm took several treasures from the ruins before he left, but are unsure what specifically he took. They such see no reason to keep the secret that this location was a Riftwarden stronghold, since they know that all the Riftwardens who were stationed here are dead. They do know that the head librarian, a man named Quednys Orlun, was up near the Cathedral of Saint Clydwell at the time of the disaster. They haven't heard from him since, but there's a chance he may still be alive.

The librarians would rather remain here for now to guard the remaining books-the main hall is a strong and safe place as long as they don't open the doors for anyone else.

Recognizing Aravashnial, the librarians cling to Kenabres's last Riftwarden and beg him to stay with them to protect them.

He does so, thanking you all for helping him reach this location and promising to aid them in the future as best he can.
He will cast False Life on each of you granting each of you 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Temporary HP for 4 hours.

We might have to return ourselves, if we can find no other safe place, but as soon as we find other survivors or some other stronghold we will return, Fair well Aravashnial, you and the others will be in my thoughts and prayers.

He said taking the blind elf's hand and giving it a firm shake. They had so much still to do. With both the tieflings dead and the human surrendering Kyra takes the time to check her wound. She winces as she pulls her clothing back to examine the deep, still bleeding gash along her left hip. She then turns to the lone survivor and approaches him aggressively with her blade still in hand, a fierce rage evident in her green eyes. Kelden, if it's okay with you... I'm going to have you intervene Kyra's actions. If that's not okay, we can just ignore this part lol!

Kyra's reaction to the surrender:
"Kneel coward and face your judgement!" She yells, blood still dripping from the edge of her scimitar.

"Kyra, no!" Kelden yells to stop her; however, the dervish moves to kick the human's knees out from beneath him. The cleric moves closer and lays his hand upon Kyra's forearm. "You cannot do this." She whips her head around towards the priest, the rage still apparent.

"But... this man, he's... he deserves to die for what he's done this day! If not for his order, that librarian would still be alive."

"Do not do this, Els. He will face his judgement, but not like this."

Kyra clenches her jaw as she stares at Kelden, her resolve wavering beneath his cool gaze. She turns to the prisoner and glares openly at him. "You are lucky he is here." She turns and storms off to assist with releasing the bound librarians.

Kyra accepts the healing with a grateful smile. "Sarenrae's light..." She is sad to see the blind wizard leaving their group, but perhaps this be for the best. "Defend this place well, hopefully the mongrelmen forces will be making their way here soon. Aravashnial... be safe." She hugs him around the torso and kisses him lightly on check as she whispers to him. "We will try to find someone to heal your eyes, I promise."

As the group prepares to continue on she turns and looks at their prisoner. "What are we to do with him? We cannot take him with us."

I'm not sure if that was against you or me, Alesie. As it stands, Kyra took 6 damage for sure. If the AoO was against me, then Kyra took 15 damage. I'll leave my HP total -2 after the channeling from Kelden until we figure out who took the 9 damage.

He could see some of his companions rage, by the light he could see the Paladin of Torag begin to move with purpose. He watched the strike and watched the man crumple to the ground shallowly breathing. He swallowed and blinked trying to fathom the right way to frame his next words.

He said with a nod torwards the unconcious traitor. Their was redemption availible to all, but at the moment he couldnt... he just couldnt feel remorse for the crusader.

In the future Sir Thetin I would appreciate some... empathy to those of other faiths and dogma's. Justice was no doubt done here, but no man or woman walks so long in the shadow that they cannot find the light.

He said simply yet clearly seeking to look the paladin in the eyes. He had meant what he said the crusader was indeed free to seek his repentance on a higher plane especially since no form of civil law was prevalent but... that woudlnt always be the case.

She touches the flat of her blade to her forehead in quiet supplication. "My goddess, see this man's soul to his proper destination and judge him should he truly seek atonement for his heinous deeds." As she places the point of her sword directly above the man's heart, white flames flickering along the edge of her sword. She closes her eyes and thrusts the sword down, ending the demon worshiper's life.

"No mercy for the merciless." Carilain sighs, the elf is fairly certain that this ruffian would have done his level best to escape and finish murdering the rest of the librarians, along with Aravashnial.

Carilain reflects on the grim nature of the situation. Demons and demon friends are as ruthless a crowd as one could hope never to meet. He and his companions will need to match them in that ruthlessness, while still remembering that they are civilized people.

"That damn howling won't get out of my head, I can't think straight...

"I will keep that in mind Kelden but there is no mercy for those who raise their weapons against Kenabres and its people."
Thetin says to Kelden. Thetin then watches as Kyra gives the dying human a quick death. "I'll be sure to do that Kyra." He then goes over to the librarians and Aravashinal. "Aravashinal can you and these librarians prepare the great hall for our mongrelman allies?"

"Perhaps you are confused, Sir, there is nothing left beyond this room of the library. While it may be enough for me and the other librarians, and we would be more than happy to provide what little shelter we have to you might heroes, there is simply not enough room here to house the host you intend to bring up to fight the demons.

It might be a bit soon as it is to see about such things anyhow, we do need to continue see if there is any orginization left in this city. By chance is there a phrase or a password you want to give us. It might be necessary for us to fall back at some point, and I would hate for some fell magics to have you let your guard down.

He said to the blind elf sighing and looking about the destruction.

Where is the next closet place on the list to check on?

They are happy to house you for the night, and your free to try and use this as a temporary HQ, but there's not much left of this building and it certainly inst a strong defensible position for you.

Kyra looks around at the small building and the surrounding devastation. "While it may not be able to house the mongrelmen forces, it could possibly work as their launching point. Aravashnial, when Chief Sull and his forces arrive, please request they begin the process of clearing out and securing these lower portions of Kenabres."

Looks like our best bet would be to head up to the Nyserian Manor and perhaps investigate it as being a cultist headquarters. Or we could drop off Hargus first and backtrack?

I'm not pro backtrack, but I assume Goodman Hargus might well have a word or two otherwise *lawls* nobles.. *shakes his head*

I would vote to drop off Hargus first. He's a pain but, keeping him and the nobles happy will likely work well in our favour if we can ever retake this city. Plus if his house is untouched or relatively free of damage, it may be a good recluse spot for sending children, etc. that won't feel quite so much like a war zone.

Agreed, I dislike backtracking, but at least we can get rid of him. Also, Alesie good call on seeing about using his Manor as a refuge! Carilain/Thetin... what do you guys think?
