Karish blasts Triloteya again, then Gidget unleashes a barrage of shots. The first is a critical hit that burns a hole clean through the woman's chest! Her second shot spins the already dead woman around, and she falls to the floor, eyes staring up at the ceiling.

Her body ripples and changes, the curly hair disappearing, her skin becoming green and scaly. In death, her true form is revealed--a shape changing reptoid!

The crowd is silent for a moment. Then Zo! begins a slow, dramatic clap. The others join in and the applause builds in intensity until the whole room is cheering your victory!

Luanna watches in horror as Karish takes another near-mortal wound. Ignoring the battle concluding at the end of the hall, she whips out a medpatch, slaps it on Karish's burn and adjusts the patch for maximum effect. "Stay away from the light! You're not done here!"

The wound closes slightly as the advanced medical technology heals the wound a little.

I know I didn't need to do that, but I wanted to see if it would work. Karish heals one point. That will work better as her skill increases and even more once she can afford an advanced med kit. Since she has the medical expert feat, that only took a round.

As she finishes up, she becomes aware of the assembled guests applauding and nods her head, sending out her thanks telepathically. She smiles at the rest of the team and gives everyone a thumbs up.

"That was cool! Did ya see when it got shot and spun around! and Karish took a direct hit from lightning and is still standing! Man, you are tough, Karish, we should arm wrestle some time. So she was really a reptoad sound and lights person, huh? I guess the society really believes in diverse hiring practices!" Gidget continues to ramble while her hands mechanically reload her weapon and she sweeps the room looking for further dangers. upon seeing none, she puts her weapon on her back and then finally seems to notice the applause, so she waves to everyone, spinning around to make sure she gets everyone.


As you bask in the crowd's adoration, First Seeker Luwazi Elsebo takes the stage. "Well now, if people are willing to kill me to keep me silent, I guess my words are surely important enough to say." She holds the rapt attention of the gala attendees as she delivers her address.

"I had planned for this evening's announcement to be an exciting one, but I’ll admit this is not quite what I had in mind," the First Seeker begins, her smile wry but determined. "Now I find my resolve only further galvanized.

"As many of you know, the First Seeker has the privilege and the responsibility for choosing the direction of the Starfinder Society's research efforts. I have refrained from setting such a direction while we regroup and rebuild—an undertaking which all of you here have made possible. Also, the fact that Guidance has not yet chosen to formalize my election is another matter, but not one the Society can risk dwelling on. Now that the Society is again in a position to reach for the stars, I am pleased to formally announce the focus of our efforts during my tenure. Thanks to the tireless research of my associate Royo, we have identified a lead on understanding the Scoured Stars incident. And so, the Starfinder Society will continue researching the Scoured Stars, in the hopes of reuniting with our lost colleagues and better understanding this phenomenon."

Luwazi meets your eyes in the crowd and smiles. "And I already have highly qualified agents in mind to undertake the first mission!"

There is a moment of surprised quiet over the room, and then the guests, starting with Ykris, begin to applaud in force. Iteration-177 regards the elected First Seeker with an indiscernible expression, slowly joining in on the applause. Royo nods enthusiastically, taking in some of the fanfare for his role in the announcement. Naiaj frantically appends work orders, noticeably perturbed by some news she has just received. Zo! actively backs away from the assembled group, still enthusiastically clapping but also making desperate calls to acquire televised rights to all Scoured Stars related endeavors.

She looks at the wounds of those who were injured, including her own, to be sure nobody needed immediate care.

She listened with interest as the First Seeker spoke, blushed a little when she called on her and her fellow Starfinders to carry on the mission of discovery regarding the Scoured Stars incident, and, once the speech was over, made her way to the drinks for something strong.

"You look worried Karish. You should get some heavy armor, it would protect you..." as usual, Gidget speaks in run-on sentences, but she does offer to take you to her "guy" and help you get some better armor, as well as training.

Since arcane spell failure is no longer a thing, you might consider taking heavy armor proficiency, especially if your dex is not that high, or you aren't planning on increasing it.

In the wake of Luwazi's announcement, the Obsidian Spiders remove Triloteya's corpse from the ballroom and several small robots work to cover up the laser burns in the walls and floors. The gala proceeds relatively unperturbed from then on, giving you time to make small talk and relax after your harrowing battles.

Once things wrap up, Radaszam seeks you out. "You did well up there, Starfinders, handling both the bombs and the assassin on your own. It seems only fair to compensate you for acting as unofficial members of my mercenary league. Here you go." He presents you with a large black case--inside is an advanced Diasporan rifle in the sleek black design of the Obisidian Spiders. "As far as I'm concerned, you're honorary Spiders now. Rest up, friends. I'm sure to have more work for you in the future."

"We'll begin a formal investigation," Radaszam says. "It might take some time, but with luck we can learn who tried to take a shot at Luwazi. The Starfinders won't stand for that sort of thing."


Some time later...

SFS 1-07: The Solar Sortie

The efficient hum of machinery fills the Archive's Cortex. Projected images and text flit across multiple screens positioned around a raised swivel chair occupied by Historia-7, leader of the Dataphiles. Historia-7 swipes a finger to clear the feed and speaks without preamble.

"My sources indicate that you are the most efficient and capable team the Starfinder Society currently has for my mission. I sincerely hope you do not prove this claim erroneous. I recently detected a discrepancy in the Society's data logs. As you may be aware, my primary objective has been decoding information regarding the Scoured Stars incident. Before the incident, my predecessor, Historia-6, and other Society members extensively investigated several corporations as well as the Scoured Stars system. Much of their knowledge was lost to us. A recent ally, a skilled hacker named Ceren, uncovered multiple data links from what remains of my predecessor's research leading back to a corporation known as the Arch Energy Consortium. When I compared these findings to our records, I found no mention of this corporation, and all data related to Arch Energy Consortium was somehow deleted from our records. My worst-case scenario is being realized: our data has been tampered with."

Historia-7 unhooks the neural cables from her neck and massages the attachment sites. "I require additional information about this corporation. Arch Energy's CEO, Ilia Tamm, has enough security resources and paranoia at her disposal to make a direct infiltration inadvisable. The weak link in this proverbial firewall is her son, Envar Tamm. His proclivities make him very suggestible, and I hypothesize that resourceful individuals could convince him to provide the information I seek.

"Envar routinely attends gladiatorial fights on Arch Energy's corporate space station, Brilliance. It will take you some time to reach Brilliance from here. During your journey, I want you to create false identities. Meanwhile, I'll make sure that you're entered into one of these gladiatorial matches as contestants. From there, you'll need to get Envar to grant you access to his mother's computer records. Acquire any data related to the corporation's board of directors. Above all, this mission demands subtlety, as Envar has quite the media presence."

Historia-7 glances at a screen for a moment, then turns back to you. "You have the choice of either a Drake or Pegasus for this mission. You should choose carefully to avoid discovery. I will answer any questions you may have, but I urge you to make your preparations to depart as quickly as possible."

Huckle Jim knows that Envar Tamm is a korasha lashunta and Arch Energy CEO Ilia Tamm's only child. He is chief procurement officer of the Arch Energy Consortium, a corporation that manufactures and distributes solar batteries. Envar is a minor celebrity who relies on his money and connections rather than actual talent to remain in the spotlight. He dislikes being bored and seeks the company of exotic or famous individuals.

A rather serious looking young Human male also joins the meeting in progress. "My sister Gidget told me that you needed help with something, and she had to go. Something about being in a Limited TV series on Eox?"


Stell knows quite a bit more about Envar. He owes his position within the company entirely to nepotism, and while he has an elevated level of security clearance and a matching salary, his mother employs a host of assistants to limit his influence on the corporation—and her bank account. On Brilliance, however, Envar usually travels unsupervised.

Ilia Tamm and her public-relations team try to cover up Envar’s addiction to transdimensional pesh, but leaked videos of Envar’s drug-fueled antics occasionally slip through the cracks. One of the more popular videos depicts Envar nearly crashing a solar yacht in an attempt to impress the shirren icon Magisterial Chef Ghornak Ryzcech during his visit to Brilliance.

Envar owes a substantial amount of credits to the ysoki gangster Razor, the leader of a crime organization funded largely by the drug trade. Razor is known for her brutal methods of extracting credits from those reluctant to pay. Razor often uses gladiatorial matches to recruit hired muscle, and she plans to attend the event on Brilliance. She intends to collect Envar’s debt after the fight.

"I do not think there are rules for the gladiatorial match beyond defeat your opponent and try not to die," Historia-7 says flatly. "I am certain you can get further clarification upon your arrival."

"Not so long ago," Stell says to the assembled Starfinders, "I was a backup musician for Gemma Argenta, whose tour had Arch Energy as a sponsor. I was eating a meal at a restaurant where some Arch executives were at a nearby table and as the meal wore on, the alcohol got them swapping stories about Envar. If their stories are true, we might be able to intervene between him and his creditors."

"The gladiatorial match is primarily just to attract Envar's attention and make him interested in speaking with you," Historia-7 says to Karish. "My research led me to discover that Envar has an addiction to transdimensional pesh, and while he’s impaired he may be highly suggestible. Additionally, Arch Energy PR constantly edits his info feed, suggesting he may already be prone to leaking sensitive information to the infosphere. So you should just need to be friendly towards him until he agrees to show you his mother's office. This is an unenviable task, and I fully intend to ensure that Envar receives the help he needs—after we get our data.

"Once you gain access to Ilia Tamm’s computer, a capable computers expert should be able to locate the appropriate files. I am not entirely sure what you will find, so download anything secure and return it to me. If you are unable to extract the files on-site, removal of the computer’s storage module will suffice, but it will alert Tamm to the security breach.

"If there are no further questions, I suggest you choose your starship and prepare to depart."

"I have participated in a few battles in the Pegasus. It is good in a fight. I'm not up on the technical distinctions between the ships, so I'll defer to recommendations by those who are," Stell says.

"I'm very good at disguises but only so-so on a computer. I am more concerned about being recognized as a musician, since if anyone connects me to my music, it won't be hard to find out my Starfinder connections. So I'll do my own disguise once we get underway. I also have a Serum of Appearance Change I've been saving for such a situation as this."

"I'm Stell, by the way. We should know what each of us brings to the table, so I'll start. If we get in a fight--and I guess we know for sure we will--I'm mostly a small arms fighter, although I've got the Shirren-eye for long range sniper situations and a knife for hand-to-hand. I like to play mind games with opponents to get them to let their guard done. Once they're expecting one thing, I give them something else. I'm also pretty good with helping folks shake off the effects of injuries with inspirational encouragement.

"Outside of combat, I'm pretty good at manipulating people, charming, lying, intimidating, or just reading people's emotions, detecting lies, etcetera. In a spaceship, I think I'd make a good captain, although I can manage at the helm or science officer console or even fixing shields or firing a space gun."

Stell takes her Serum of Appearance Change to make her look several inches taller with Minkai features, including long straight black hair, a fuller figure, and no freckles. She'll build on this to further disguise herself with makeup and a kimono-like robe (providing a freer range of motion than the traditional kimono), taking on the appearance of a geisha.

It's a +8 for the disguise and either a +8 or +10 for the computer option, depending on if *Nobody does his own first or second.
