Hearing the elemental's words Ema knew that there was no reasoning with them, Auran"I'm sorry," she said in their language, "we'll end your suffering then." She concentrated then and began to cast a spell doing her best to not give an opening to the elemental before her.
Cast Defensively (dc 23): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Unfortunately Ema had never cast that spell before and simply wasn't prepared for the complexities causing her to lose it. As she failed her spell and stood in shock the elemental slammed her twice more with it's arms drawing a loud scream of pain from her which was choked off as the electricity jolted her cutting off her cry of pain.

Emalliandra knew she needed some distance from this thing and felt she couldn't rely on her magic to pull it off so she did the only thing she could, she withdrew as quickly as possible from the room. She hoped the elelmental wouldn't be able to attack her but it was large enough that it could reach her regardless once she started moving. She could only hope, selfishly, that it would turn on Calamity and give Ema the time she needed to summon something to deal with the creature.

Sadly they are Elementals Simon, crits don't apply.

As Ema retreats, Calamity hurls more healing cards, this time towards Victrix to keep her in the fight. Simon lands two good hits, while Victrix scores a single powerful blow.

Still, the elementals continue their assault unabated. As Ema hoped, the creature that was attacking her turns on Calamity, electrocuting the halfling instead!

Still edging closer toward escape (or helping out Victrix), Simon realizes that holding back is having very little effect against these large elementals, so he switches to a full on attack.

Ema cried out again in pain as the elemental hit her while she fled but it did turn on Calamity which gave Ema the space she needed. Focusing she tore open another portal close to the elemental that had attacked her. The archon, seeing the fight in progress nodded in understanding and stepped forward to lash out at the elemental with it's greatsword twice in rapid succession and then tried to bite it.

Ema's eyes flashed then as she dvoured some of her magic to refill her reservoir of power should she need to summon again.


Victrix and Simon each score another good hit, and while the huge elemental fighting the barbarian seems to be faltering, the half-orc's foe remains undaunted! Calamity sends healing magic Simon's way while Ema summons a hound archon to distract the other elemental. The archon scores a hit with its teeth.

The elementals attack, hitting Victrix twice. Simon manages to barely dodge his foe's strikes. The other one turns to face the archon, scoring a critical hit that is fortunately blunted by the hound's resistance.

The archon yelped ina bit of pain at the elemental's assault but it was obvious the entity couldn't hurt the archon very well. Barking a challenge the houndmanlashed out at the elemental once again twice with the sword and then the canine head snapped once more at the elemetnal being.

Ema pulled out a bottle and downed her last potion of cure light wounds in the hopes it would be enough to survive this fight.

Simon strikes his foe twice, and Ema's archon scores two hits as well. Victrix screams with fury and cleaves into the enormous elemental with her axe, and the last strike finally proves too much for the thing. It sparks and shorts out, leaving only a scent of ozone behind as it is destroyed! Calamity rushes over to heal the aasimar.

Fortune seems to finally be smiling upon you as the smaller elementals fail to hit with their attacks!

@Calamity FYI, we agreed early on to use average for the die roll out of combat healing (so 2 charges for 11 hp. I'm not sure if you were aware of that

After getting his wounds patched up, Simon considers the situation. "I am anxious to find the settlers, now that the stalkers are aware of our presence. I'd prefer to keep searching, but we are rather banged up and our resources are depleted.

Ema considered what to do carefully as Vicktrix stated they souldn't mess with more technology until they saved the settlers and reluctantly nodded, "I think you're right Vicktrix, though I never expected what just happened and I think we may benefit from having taken care of that, it is a serious risk. We should refrain unless it becomes necessary to save them."

Ema's gaze turned towards Simon and said, "I have enough magic to push on at least a little more but we need to make sure we are in good enough shape to continue. Though we should consider going back to get healed rather than use up our resources like the wand and such if possible."

That is fair. Let's go back up to Kip and Oorka and see if they can heal us instead of using those 3 wand charges that I specified.

The little grippli and young strix both return Victrix's hug warmly. "We'll be fine. You're the ones getting beat up!" Kip laughs.

Back down below, Simon doesn't hear anything or find any traps on the next set of doors. Two stone cabinets stand against the south wall of this chamber. A few ancient robes lie crumpled in the room amid fine, colored dust and other debris. One of the surviving robes is magical and sewn from blue silk. An eye-shaped symbol is embroidered on the vestment in silver thread. Decorated in the same way and constructed of wool dyed a similar hue of blue is a second magic robe with a lightning bolt motif and a third magic robe adorned with patches in orderly rows. On one of the shelves, an magic silk shirt is decorated with similar embroidery.

Double doors exit to the east.

I used my single detect magic for the day, so it is up to Ema/Calamity to tell if these items are useful.

After gazing appreciatively at the magical robes, Simon heads across the room to repeat the process on the other doors.

Simon's sharp hearing picks up on a faint creaking sound amid the constant echoes in this room. He deduces that the floor of this chamber is weak and could collapse even though it looks undamaged.

"I don't trust this room, it looks like the preservative magic that has kept the temple mostly intact is weak here. Whatever is in these vials has probably long gone bad anyways."


Many long bookcases of fine marble stand side by side in this room. Some of the shelves have been smashed to pieces, and countless marble fragments and remains of ancient documents are strewn about the floor. The few surviving books and other documents on the shelves look wrinkled and fragile. The air in this room is stale and reeks of mold.

Nestled between the crumbling shelves against the north wall, a strange patch of multicolored fungus faintly glows with swirling patterns, casting dim light in the corners of the room.

Knowledge (dungeoneering) DC 20:
This dangerous fungus is known as prismatic mold. Volatile and easily disturbed, prismatic mold emits a colorful burst of spores when a creature moves within 5 feet of it, producing one of several different debilitating effects. Targeting a prismatic mold with dispel magic instantly withers it into mundane and permanently inert (albeit still colorful) mold.

Simon sighs as he closes the door, looking longingly at the lost knowledge the books might contain.

"I suppose we should clear the other hallway before we examine the sunken stairs over there. Is everyone ready?"

Ema was relieved when Kip and Oorka were able to heal them but took the warning about them being out for the day seriously. She knew if they got that badly injured again they would have to retreat for the night and return later. She didn't like the chances of the captives if that happened.

When they found the cabinets that held the robes and shirt Ema's eyes lit up in interest at the objects. She quickly cast a spell and began to examine them magically as she tried to figure out what they were.

Unfettered Shirt = 1/day Freedom of Movement. That could be a huge boon. I'd think Victrix should wear that to avoid any potential paralysis/grapple/etc

Shocking Robe is pretty cool. Electric Resist 5, CL +1 for Electric, and 1/day 20ft burst of Electric. If either of you spellcasters use electric spells, this will be pretty awesome.
