Weyve's eyes turn black, and with a gesture, shadowy chains burst from the ground, ensnaring the lead Gillman's legs!

Casting barbed chains. First attack is a trip attack against Red. If he falls, the second one is an attack to deal damage, otherwise another trip attempt.

Trip vs. Red: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 ...hopefully that will do it.
Regular Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 ...with a bonus for him being prone that might be a hit.
Slashing Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Unless he makes a DC 15 Will save (for each hit) he is shaken for this many rounds:: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Weyve's chains trip the gillman before lashing him, causing him to shake with fear. Terana draws her trident and manages to impale the prone enemy on its tines. Oorka grants Tobar some divine guidance for his next attack.

Rather than risk attack by standing, the gillman stabs out at Terana's feet with his weapons. The other two step up to attack the paladin as well, one from around the corner of the cave entrance. One manages to find a chink in her armor, driving his sword int oher side.

Full Attack, Prone, Shaken, Favored Enemy: 1d20 ⇒ 131d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16

5 damage to Terana. Tobar has +1 on his next d20 roll from guidance. Everybody is up!

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

"Ouch!" Terana yelps as one of the gillmen draws blood. She retaliates, but aims for the one still on the floor, in order to reduce the danger.

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

"That seemed to work well," Weyve observes. "Let's do that again." Another pair of smoky chains burst from the ground, grabbing at the Gillmen's legs.

Casting barbed chains again. Trying to trip both of the other guys.

Trip vs. Blue: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 ...hopefully that will do it. If it does:
Unless he makes a DC 15 Will save he is shaken for this many rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Weyve then takes a step back to give the others room.

Tobar likewise pivots slightly, reloads, and takes a shot at the next foe in front of the battle line.

Crossbow attack, past cover, point-blank: 1d20 + 10 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 10 - 4 + 1 = 15
Crossbow damage, point-blank: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7

Terana stabs the prone gillman again, then Gideon finishes him off with a swift and brutal chop to his neck.

Tobar fires another shot towards the next gillman, but the enemy just barely manages to twist out of the way in time. "Don't despair! Try again!" Oorka urges, granting the crossbowman guidance again.

Weyve's barbed chains trip one of the two remaining foes, leaving him shaken.

The fallen gillman tries to stab Terana but doesn't come close. The other one uses his cover to maneuver around without opening himself up to attack as he fills the gap. With a snarl, he stabs at Terana as well, his trident scraping against her armor.

Everybody is up again!

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana too thrusts forwards, not enjoying how close the trident forces her to get to the foes teeth and claws.

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Tobar's bolt buries itself in the gillman's chest. He coughs up blood, but remains standing--at least long enough for Gideon to cut him down with his machete.

Terana stabs down at the prone gillman, striking him with her trident. The crazed man desperately stabs back at her, to avail.

Full Attack, Prone, Shaken, Favored Enemy: 1d20 ⇒ 21d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

It's a simple matter for Gideon and Terana to finish off the final foe.

Each of the four gillman has 2 potions of cure moderate wounds, mwk leather lamellar armor, a mwk trident, and a short sword.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana retrieves her glaive from under the bodies and stalks forward down the cave towards the curtain covering the far wall. Some native caution inspires her to at least attempt to be stealthy. Unfortunately she's really bad at it.

Stealth: 1d20 + 1 - 5 ⇒ (2) + 1 - 5 = -2

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

Following Terana forward, but staying at least a few steps away in case her advance triggers another trap, Gideon carefully looks around as he goes.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

A simple wooden barrier blocks the entrance to the chamber beyond, but it is easily moved aside. This flooded cave is roughly square, and its features have been smoothed by the passage of seawater in and out with the ebb and flow of the tide. A large swath of the southern wall is marred by deep carvings depicting a crude, twisted sigil. A pile of humanoid bones heaped four feet high litter the floor in front of the glyph. Atop this mound rests a stone trough, stained with old dried blood.

Two gillmen flank the entrance to the chamber, while by the altar stands a female gillman clad in mithral chainmail and wielding a rapier. A hanged skull hangs about her neck, the unholy symbol of the demon lord Zura.

Another horrid creature hovers nearby, buzzing wings holding it aloft. A grasshopper serves as the gaunt thing's head.

Knowledge (planes) DC 16:
This is a sahkil called a wihsaak, a horrid being from the Ethereal Plane that preys on the fear of creeping, crawling, and buzzing insects. It resists weapons that aren't good aligned, as well as cold, electricity, and sonic effects.

"Praise Zura! She has delivered a fine meal to our doorstep today. Your blood shall slake our thirst, and the marrow from your bones will fill our bellies!" the female gillman declares.

Initiative:
Gideon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Terana: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Tobar: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Weyve: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Gillmen: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Itzchelma: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

The wihsaak raises its clawed hands, and a cloud of greasy darkness washes over you, wounding you and making you feel sick. The gillman leader follows this up with a sound burst, while the other two attack with their weapons, but fail to hit.

Unholy Blight: 4d8 ⇒ (5, 5, 7, 5) = 22

Full Attack, Favored Enemy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 181d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Ouch. The unholy blight deals 22 damage to everybody and sickens you for 1d4 rounds (DC 16 Will for half and negate sickened). The sound burst deals 8 damage to everybody, and you have to make a DC 14 Fortitude save or be stunned for 1 round. Everybody is up now! Map updated.

Male Human Bard (Archaeologist) 11; HP 69/69; AC 21/14/18; F+4/R+11/W+7; Init+3; Per+21; Arch.Luck+3+1,6/6

Holy cheese at the high rolling...please don't tell me that that amount of damage kills Oorka outright. Holding my action to see how Terana fares.

Oorka's outside the range of the sound burst. The blight will knock her out but not kill her.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

It's tankin' time!
Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 If the creature is an abberation, then I get a +4 and everyone else gets +1, so I'd pass that.
Fort: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 As above, but I assume the gillman isn't an abberation.

Terana (probably) spends her turn stunned.

Unfortunately the other creature is an outsider, not an aberration.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Well I pass the fort thanks to Heroism, so 26 damage but not stunned right?

"Zura has no power over me, fiend!" Terana cries, even as the oily blackness washes over her. A flash of rose light disrupts the darkness as Terana draws her trident, pressing her other hand to her chest as she does so.

Smite the weird creature, LoH as a move action, Strike with Trident!

Against all odds, Tobar somehow holds out. He grits his teeth and draws down on one of the minions in the frontline.

Crossbow attack, point-blank shot, past cover: 1d20 + 10 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 10 + 1 - 4 = 13

Probably to no avail.

Couldn't you use a grit point to make it target touch AC? That might give you a better shot. Also, using Archaeologist's Luck.

Will Save: 1d20 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 3 = 23
Fort Save: 1d20 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 3 = 22

"That bug's a bad one! Back up, let's get s'more space!" Gideon urges the others, casting Grease on the ground just in front of Terana to try and slow the enemies down.

I would suggest we all back up into that larger room. We're gonna get killed if we keep ourselves single-file like this. Force them to come through that bottleneck to get to us. Terana could still five-foot step backward and the rest of us could use a move action to get back into the larger chamber behind us.

Weyve staggers under the force of the blast, and puts his hand to his ears trying to ease the pain. Black mist pours across his temples and ears.

Healer's Way: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6 So that's down to 13 damage. Puts me at 23 HP.

Weyve then throws a bolt of light down the corridor, which bursts among the two gillmen blocking the door.

Casting burst of radiance. Sadly the AoE is too small to get everyone in the room. AoE will be the yellow circle.

Reflex vs Radiance: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 251d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Tobar's crossbow bolt whizzes past the gillmen, shattering against the cave's far wall. Gideon greases the floor, causing one of the gillmen to slip and fall. Weyve's burst of radiance sears their flesh, but they manage to ward their eyes against the blinding light. Terana stabs the gillman in front of her with her trident. Oorka lies on the floor, unconscious from the wihsaak's spell.

The extraplanar horror focuses its insectile gaze on Weyve, and the oracle hears a voice in his mind: "Abandon your resistance and prostrate yourself before my glory, and I may spare you and your friends!"

The gillman priestess casts another spell, attempting to paralyze Terana. The prone gillman stands and attacks, while the other one attacks as well, managing a good hit with his short sword.

Weyve blasts the sahkil with divine radiance, wounding and dazzling the creature but failing to blind it!

5FS south (assuming that's not where the SW is. If it is then step north :)

Since the demon is tangling with Weyve, Tobar takes the opportunity to rush in, loading as he goes, and fire once more at the cleric.

Spending 1 grit to make this a touch attack.

Crossbow attack, point-blank: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 10 + 1 = 31
Crossbow confirm crit, point-blank: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 1 = 22

Since this is a touch attack that probably confirms, and refreshes the grit that was spent.

Crossbow damage, point-blank: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9
Crossbow crit damage, point-blank: 2d8 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 + 2 = 15

Seeing the others continuing the fight despite the damage they've taken, and Oorka's unconscious form lying near him, Gideon curses again. "Dammit! Sinashakti, guide my shot here!" he says, voicing his inner thought as he calls on the empyreal lord of explorers.

Five-foot step into the bottleneck to get within PBS range of her, then shoot. Activating my last AL for the day, too.

The Zuran parries Terana's trident with her rapier. As the paladin steps out of the way, Gideon and Tobar rush in to help her. The bard's arrow strikes her in the stomach, while the crossbowman's bolt sinks deep into her chest, piercing her black heart! Blood pours from the vicious wound as she groans and collapses!

Weyve is up!

15 damage to Weyve. Everybody is up again!

Okay, I was at 23 HP so minus 15 is 8.

"Agh! Damn you!" weyve shouts, pressing his hand over the wound.

Lay on Hands: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7 ... which puts me back up to 15 HP.

It looks like I can still see down the hallway if I lean up to the top of my square, so:

Wand still in hand, with a thought Weyve directs the flaming sphere at the Gillman again.

Flaming Sphere Reflex vs Gillman DC 13: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 2) = 7

Weyve steps back and points the wand at the Wihsaak. "Okay, insect, try this!"

UMD +2 used wand before: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 13 + 2 = 25
Flaming Sphere Reflex DC 13: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 6) = 17

So that is:
* Swift to lay on hands
* Move action to direct sphere
* 5' step
* Standard to activate wand

Gillman Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Wihsaak Reflex: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Damn, so many natural 20's on saves! The boards really don't like your flaming spheres, Weyve.

Both the gillman and the fiend nimbly dodge Weyve's flaming spheres.

The remaining gillman turns his rage on Tobar, seeking vengeance for his mistress's death, but he fails to hit. The wihsaak claws at Weyve again, scoring one good slice.

Full Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 151d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Claws: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 281d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

8 damage to Weyve. Everybody is up again!

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Seeing her cousin in trouble Terana leaves the final gillman to Tobar and rushes back down the corridor, pausing momentarily to scoop up her glaive as she does so.

20ft move, reclaim glaive. Next turn I'm gonna get the beastie!

Gideon rushes forward, past Terana, and fires another arrow into the gillman tangling with Tobar.

Shortbow Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 1 + 3 + 1 = 19
Shortbow Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 3 + 1 = 10

I don't think it matters since she collapsed anyway, but I forgot to include the Point Blank Shot damage on my attack that dropped her, so she's got one extra on her.

Be grateful for those natural-20 reflex saves, Weyve! If those two rolls hadn't been forced first, that would've been a threat and confirmation against Weyve by the thing.

Tobar once again resorts to bashing his opponent with his crossbow in close combat.

Crossbow melee attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Crossbow melee damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Maybe the boards hate flaming spheres, but they're about all I have left!

I'm down to 7 HP. The creature was not adjacent to me but I assume that itook a 5' step towards me to attack. Or does it have reach? Whatever the case I will 5' step away from it again.

"Ah... a little help here!"

The first sphere winks out of existence. But Weyve, after stepping away, concentrates and has the Flaming Sphere roll towards the creature again.

Flaming Sphere Reflex DC 13: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 1) = 6

He concentrates for a moment, and his eyes turn black. A faint black haze covers his features.

Edit: Casting protection from evil on myself. It's a gamble, but if the Wihsaak is a summoned creature (either through summon monster or planar binding or something similar) then the spell prevents it from touching me until I attack it again. Was originally going to cast cure light wounds but that is unlikely to keep me alive through another full attack.

If not I at least get +2 to AC and saves.

Another full attack from the Wihsaak will probably take me down if it can hit me. FYI I am now out of spells.

Be with you in a second! :)

"Come and face me beast!" Terana calls, levelling her glaive at the creature and hoping it will ignore her cousin.
