We are the Red Talons, aren't we? xD

While they wait for the others Holg picks up the waterskin and smells. The man rugs his nose in a grimace, then holds it in the air while raising a prayer "Gorum give some taste to this liquid, for those that shall fight for your glory" while casting tears to wine on it "That is better now..." Holg gives a long sip before cleaning his mouth with the arm and offering the wineskin to the others "Some extra courage will sharpen our senses"

"I say we make as much noise as we need to and no more. Do not feel bad to fire if you need to Molly" then Holg approaches the strange technological weapon to try examine it "What might this be...?"

With the carrot heightening his senses, Holg spots a trap! Several cleverly concealed tripwires cross the room, set to trigger a trio of grenades if anybody gets too close to the rifle on the ground!

"Hey! Watch out!" Holg makes a sign for everyone to halt, still holding the wineskin while the last ones squeeze through "Aren't those tripwires attached to the trigger of a batch of grenades?" the man blinks startled "I do not know if it is the wine or Paetyr's food, but I see very strangely acute. Maybe some of you is able to disrupt the wires without triggering the grenades?"

Fifteen nods and sets to work with a tiny razor blade that she produces from somewhere.

Viv prepares to respond if the grenades are accidentally triggered.

You can't ready actions outside of combat so technically I guess I can't do anything to prevent them from exploding on us if the rolls aren't good enough, but... yeah.

Fortunately, Fifteen is able to disable the trap without triggering it. You are able to salvage the three arc grenades, but the rifle itself is cobbled together from junk and worthless--just bait for the trap.

Fireday takes a sip of the wine and follows the others.

"Honestly I'm surprised we haven't done this more often. Given all the techno-sh!t we've had to deal with, we all could have probably used some stiff drinks," he comments. Then the wine kicks in. "Oh gods I can see forever!"

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The tunnel winds around for a bit before it opens into a small cave, the ceiling ten feet high and the floor cleared of the usual debris. Another tunnel exits the chamber to the northwest, though the way is filled with a pool of water.

A strange four-armed woman stands here. She has gray skin and a spade-shaped face and wears armor and a cloak made from the hide of an aurumvorax. She wields numerous technological items, including a long rifle and a shield made from hard light.

The woman seems surprised to see you, and she calls out in Androffan. "Leave this place at once!"

RETIRED: advancing artificial medicine to save her wife's mind.

Fifteen seems confused by the conversation, if the way her head turns back and forth between Molly and Viv is any indication.

When the four armed woman is finally found Fifteen plays to her strengths, and doesn't say anything. Past experience has taught her that letting Molly talk to people first results in less fighting. Usually. Unless Molly has been drinking, or they make jokes about short people.

Molly laughs at Viv's joke, because, of course, it has to be a joke.

"If that's what you really want us to do, we'll do that," Molly replies in the same language to the four-armed woman. She mimics the woman's weapon readiness with her own. "But we came here after hearing that you're fighting against the brain-stealers. We are as well and had hoped that we could combine forces against them."

The woman seems surprised when Molly responds in Androffan. ”If you are enemies of the Dominion, then I welcome you into my home.” She gestures for you to follow her past the pool of water and into the last chamber of this tunnel.

This cave is split in two by three rock columns. The floor is clear of debris and a small rectangular device hums in one corner, its grill-like front filling the air with warmth. Lying beyond a series of rock pillars to the south is a deerskin pallet on a bed of evergreen boughs. A pile of berries, mushrooms, and freshly cooked small mammals sits on a nearby bolder being used as a table.

”You may eat if you are hungry,” the woman says, gesturing to the food. ”I am Isuma, and I am from a distant world. This land is strange to me, as I must be strange to you, but it does good that we can talk. I need allies. I need companions. Those who took my previous ones still dwell to the west, and they still defile the bodies of my kin. I need your aid in securing revenge. Do this, and I shall aid you as well, as best I can.”

Fireday blinks in suprise at Molly's response.

"You know Androffan too? Excellent!"

He bows to Isuma.

"Well met, Isuma. I am Fireday of the Red Talons and sword-knight of the goddess Iomedae."

He takes a seat, listening to her admittedly terse and to-the-point story. When she finishes, he nods and makes the sign of the sword.

"Truly, you've been dealt a great injustice, and my goddess compels me to rectify that. You will have my aid in fighting back against this Dominion, and I'm sure my companions will say the same."

Viv cocks her head as if studying the figure, remembering a certain four-armed undead that the team encountered long ago.

Finally she cocks her head to the other side and says in Androffan, "Are you from Kasath?"

Isuma cocks her head as well. ”You have heard of it? Yes, I am a kasatha. I was invited away from my home by people like you—humans from a great ship called Divinity. They taught me their language, trained me with their weapons, and promised to eventually return me home so that I might share what they taught me with my people.

“But Divinity was attacked by creatures who identified themselves as the Dominion of the Black. The ship escaped, I know not how, but it was greatly damaged. Society aboard Divinity broke down, and my kin and I were forced to defend ourselves from mutineers. We learned that others on the ship had abducted members of another kasathan tribe and were keeping them as pets in a large contained habitat, but were unable to rescue them.

“The ship began to shake apart, and my kin and I sought shelter in stasis pods in an escape shuttle—devices intended to sustain life over long journeys. We entered the pods and hoped the escape shuttle would take us home—but I know now that shuttle crashed to your planet along with the rest of Divinity.

“We woke only recently, as captives of the Dominion. As far as I can tell, thousands of years have passed since Divinity’s crash here. I know not where the rest of the ship lies, or if any of my kin survive. I do know those who did not survive live a blasphemous half-existence as Dominion puppets, and they must be avenged.”

"Wow, that's quite a story," Molly says. She turns to look at Fifteen as if challenging her to say something. After all the times the android has called her out for telling 'Stories', there's an air of expectation in her gaze.

Holg follows interested the conversation between Molly and Viv. When they talk about knickers the man smiles and immediately offers more wine.

Talking Androffan... "Dominion, is that how the brain collectors are called?" Holg approaches the food and picks up a roasted mouse still dripping fat and bites it with delight following up with a sip of wine "My name is Holg, but some call me Redhawk. Take some of our wine Isuma, it will make you feel better."

"You say you are from a distant world, are you from Osirion? Perhaps from Tian Xia? I have heard there are very strange creatures leaving there" Holg's eyes brighten up at the proposal to fight some enemies "Oh great! Yes! I want to fight those enemies of yours. What are them exactly?"

EDIT
"So this Divinity came from the stars! Coen was correct!!!" Holg looks impressed at Isuma "Well, then we need to know all the details, because there is something called Unity that somehow relates to your story that is trying to f%~+ up with our people nowadays"

RETIRED: advancing artificial medicine to save her wife's mind.

Fifteen cocks her head in a gesture that Molly recognises as 'skeptical'. She doesn't say anything however and when Holg chimes in she steps closer to Molly and crouches to speak in the halfling's ear.

"It is foolish to continue a hypothesis when confronted by new data." She says matter-of-factly. "The balance of porbability favors this Isuma telling the truth. So it is not a story."

As Fifteen stands up there's a sharp slap and she feels a stinging sensation on her bottom. Looking back at Molly, she sees the halfling wagging her finger at her.

RETIRED: advancing artificial medicine to save her wife's mind.

"Later."

And the android turns back to the conversation going on with the alien, her face all polite interest.

”Unfortunately, I cannot tell you much else about Divinity. Almost all of my time there was spent within an isolated habitat module.

“But I can tell you about the Dominion of the Black. They consist of several species of creatures. I know not the names they give themselves, but they use our flesh, particularly our brains, as resources. Some are large and crablike and collect brains for use as magical batteries of some sort. Others are smaller and shaped like brains themselves and use our bodies—one of them is a sadist named Maukui, and it wears a huge, breath-stealing reptile as its suit. Maukui was the one who tormented me and would have killed me had I not escaped.

“They came here in the vast, decaying organic ship that now lies heaped on the shores of the lake to the west—I have not been into this ruined vessel, but there may be resources and answers within that can aid us in an assault on their hive. It was here that I woke, and I escaped from the den in panic. I’m sorry I cannot recall details of the layout of the hive, but I do remember that the doors of the place were valves of flesh that require organic keys to open, and that the walls of the place can see and hear, but could be tricked by certain chemicals. I tricked them by virtue of being coated with the blood of a Dominion agent I’d slain—other substances might work as well, but I am no scientist.”

"It looks like those things are not only alien to Numeria but an actual danger. Even if they were not related to Unity, we cannot leave them prowling around. I say we help Isuma to destroy this hive and fight this Maukui" Holg takes another sip of wine and offers to others as well "Coating in the blood of those brain killers seems like a great thing to do. Molly considers the offered wine for a moment, but after a glance at Fifteen, she declines.

Isuma draws a crude map of the valley on the ground with a bit of charcoal. She indicates the locations of Mad Paeytr's grove, the Dominion dropship, and the hive. She also indicates a cave where a group of androids dwell (the same location Paeytr mentioned to you), as well as a fungus-encrusted cave.

"I have not been inside that cave, but I’ve seen the creatures that dwell within—they are as large as us but winged, with insectlike limbs and bulbous heads that flash strange colors. They carry strange weaponry and speak in buzzing voices. They seem to be enemies of the Dominion, but they do not seem interested in alliances. The one time I tried to approach, they nearly killed me. But an investigation of their caves to seize any weapons they might have might be a good idea—they are weaker on the whole than the Dominion aliens, although I know nothing of their total numbers.

"Of more immediate concern, the other half of the caves here are colonized by some sort of mechanical army--their deadly robot guardians have prevented me from exploring the area. Perhaps if we go there now, it would give us a chance to learn each other's combat tactics while simultaneously finding more tools to aid our mission?"

Viv politely declines the enchanted wine and says, "I agree, let's see about fighting some more terrible robots and monstrosities."

You squeeze back out of the narrow passage and enter the caves to the west. The entry cave is a large space, with stalactites depending from the ceiling twenty-five feet above. The rocky floor is irregular, requiring careful navigation, and a large pool of water hugs the northwestern wall of the chamber. Three natural columns of rock support the ceiling before this pool. A broad passage heads deeper into the caves to the southwest—sounds of clanging metal and the smell of burned oil come from that direction.

A crablike monstrosity looms in the middle of the cave. It takes a moment for you to realize that it is dead, its carcass crudely lashed together like some sort of alien scarecrow. The body shows signs of damage from extreme cold.

A large pool of murky water occupies the center of this cavern. The muddy shores are surrounded by a hopeless tangle of metal tubes, gears, and mechanical junk and debris. A broad passage exits the chamber to the west, its surfaces worked smooth and plated with gray metal. A long-dead body of a woman lies near the southern wall, partially buried by the rubble.

Three small robots float in the air here. Spinning blades, long needles, and crystal-tipped rods stud the surface of these hovering metallic spheres. They easily notice Molly and begin to move to attack!

Viv misses with her blast. Molly unleashes a barrage of bullets, battering down the force field around one of the robots and damaging its chassis. Holg rushes past the halfling to tear into the damaged robot. Kaska casts haste on the group.

That robot injects a needle into Holg's neck, flooding his bloodstream with nanites in an attempt to weaken him. The other two open fire on Molly with their surgical lasers!

I'm gearing up to start the Iron Gods adventure path for one of my friends. We're looking for three or four additional players to make a complete party! Potential players should be able to post at least once a weekday (weekends optional).

  • Character should be built with the 20-point buy method.
  • All Paizo sources are welcome. No third-party books, please.
  • Your character should have two total traits, or three with a drawback.
  • We will be using background skills.
  • You can either take average starting gold or roll for it.

Recruitment will be open through Friday, June 23rd.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Liberty's Edge

I have an Iron Gods itch that needs to be scratched and an Android Arcanist that was made of it. I'll check that he's up to date and post him.

Submitting Anjru. Local former soldier and storyteller.

Dark Archive

Dotting for interest, will come back if/when I've got a good idea.

Dotting for interest... I'm thinking something to put me on the path to a techmancer down the line.....

Sovereign Court

I'm in a different IG game, but I really like the premise of IG (and games have a tendency to die on these boards...) and I have an alternative character that I made for IG, so I'd be interested if you don't get swamped with applicants!

Here's Viv Voltine, an android telekineticist. Good ranged damage, a few interesting support skills, and a very quirky personality.

I would like to submit Koil for you.

I'm interested. I'll work on something. Likely a Kellid Speaker for the Past Shaman.

Dotting for interest; need to come up with a decent idea, and will submit if available.

Dotting. I have an idea for an empiricist investigator which I'll submit soon.

OK, working on a halfling pistolero gunslinger who escaped bondage with her master's favorite pistol (and he is now pistol'ed-off, heh heh.) More to come soon.

Submitting Dromer.

He's best described as an emo, hair-flipping 1/16th orc. Melee Bloodrager with a high Int, focused on Knowledges.

He was my Iron Gods character for a year and we didn't even complete the first dungeon. Tons of RP and character building, though.

If accepted I'll bump him back to Level 1.

Forgot to ask: are you handing out PFS credit? If you're unsure how PFS works I'd be happy to handle it for you. If you're not handing out credit then I withdraw my submission.

Dotting, Thinking of Psychic with mindtech discipline, not sure yet tho.

I hadn't considered PFS credit, but I'd be happy to let you handle it if you want to, Dromer.

Sweet! Thank you.

The character I want to apply the credit to has essentially been on hold for two years waiting for the first Chronicle.

*crosses fingers*

I got some shiny upgrades including some personality notes, background skills, and a couple of inspirational pictures!

Assuming I can manage it with the site so sporadic, I'm interested in this.

I am interested! I wanna do something that explores the themes of science and faith combining that Iron Gods is built around, but I'm not sure how best to implement it...

Thank you, but I've actually already asked people about that archetype on the Advice Forums and the general consensus seemed to be "DON'T!"

Most cleric archetypes are hot garbage, but the Iron Priest at least keeps both of its domains. The switch in channeling just adds the ability to heal constructs and removes damaging undead - and IG has way more constructs than undead (though I would never expect an AP to have NO undead). Since it's quite possible for players to encounter robots and reprogram them into friendlies, this is potentially a nice benefit.

Also, at some point you have to decide whether your character is more about exploring the intersection of faith and technology and following a build that mirrors that thematically, or about just eking out the next incremental bonus for efficiency. :)

This is true. I think I'll make him a warpriest, though. Basic backstory is an android who was saved from the Technic League by a paladin of Iomedae, who became enraged when they murdered his rescuer and is out to bring them to JUSTICE!

Is it possible to play a character who was a possible inductee to the Technic League and was even trained by someone from the League, but ended up fleeing them due to their practices and keeping of knowledge to themselves?

Iron Priest is at least a full caster, and Constructs have poor Will saves (compared to Undead, which have Will as their only good save).

@The Pale King, yes, that would be possible. You would only know the basic workings of the Technic League, however, not having progressed far enough to learn all of their secrets.

If you're alright with me having GMed chapter 1 before, I'd enjoy putting a spellslinger together.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

@mishima, as long as you can keep GM and player knowledge separate, I'll consider your application.

mishima here, decided to just make a regular gunslinger with some of the tech options. Also took a background trait from the player's guide, thought the local ties one would be good. Going to be Val's adopted sister. Will get the fluff together next.

Think the crunch is nailed down except for inventory.

Money for bullets: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 2, 5) = 18x10=180

Dotting for interest! Not sure what I want to make, but I'll try to get something submitted tonight, as long as the website's up.

Oh bother. I had almost the exact same idea as Mishima.

Well, a-hunting I will go. Maybe an inquisitor of Torag - it seems like they'd have an interest in Torch becoming non-torched.

So, I've never looked at the Background Skills rules before, and holy wow. Artistry (poetry) is an option. I think that completes Dromer's emo persona.

Plus, Knowledge (geography) is an option, and I had already given him the Stargazer campaign trait. Squeee!

*goes off to research modern poetry*

Here's my submission. Kaska is a Kellid Galvanic Saboteur Ranger.

I need to finish up gear and money. I also must expand her background and fluff more. I think everything else is in place and ready.

Starting gold: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6) = 12 x 10 = 120 gp

Thinking of doing an eldritch guardian fighter, will post him later today.

Dotting I will check out my Dwarven Foehammer and see if he is up to your standards. I should be submitting after work if I don't have to work late.

OK, so after a third attempt, I decided to recycle a character from Carrion Crown, since Ustalav is right next door to Numeria.

Meet Maxim, a stalwart defender of his people. He'd come to Torch to see about putting his crafting skills to use, and to try to acquire some skymetal for his people...but now that the torch is out, is he about to get pulled into something much larger than some nasty skeletons mucking up people's fields?

Starting Gold: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 2, 4) = 19 = 190 GP

Starting Wealth: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 1, 4) = 18x10=180 gp.

GM, how do you plan to do battles? Maps on Roll20? Theater of the Mind?

Please do Google Slides

<3

Most basic combats will be theater of the mind, but I will likely use Google Slides for the more complex ones. I still have to look into how to use them properly.

Here is my application for a Kellid Speaker for the Past Shaman. I went for a mix of secondary melee/support and battlefield control. If needed, I could give the Kellid a stronger twists towards healing.

Let me know if you have questions or comments.

I've picked the campaign trait and the reason for protest. I also read a bit about the town from the player's guide.

For residence, I'm thinking he could live either at The Cloven Hoof Society or the Devil’s Nursery. Not sure which, I'm open to suggestions.

For work, I'm thinking the could be at the Vespam Artisans as an apprentice there. There is also the Salt Market where he could try to sell some ware.

-------------------------------------

On the topic of gooogle slide. I use it alot with my games. I find it just perfect for how I use them and it doesn't require people to make an account. Here's some exemple of maps.

Crypt of the Everflame

Carrion Crown Map

If you need any help, I'd be willing even if I'm not picked as a player.

I think you've gotten Iron Gods mixed up with Hell's Rebels =)

Yep, sure looks like it... my bad. I was wondering where my post went!

Both GM are talking about using Google slide, that's probably what got me confused here.

Backstory:::::
Tech-head, reckless, persistent

Stirrup pin, docking lever, mainspring...her muscle memory assembled the parts quickly. It wasn't an obsession, familiarity with a thing leads to innovation. It had been 3 years since Baine had introduced her to firearms, and this amalgam of components was no longer recognizable even to an expert...she was taking the technical art in her own direction.

Baine's workshop was a second chance for Nilelane. His inspiration had supplanted her previous addiction to the sweet, viscous Numerian fluids...she no longer needed them to see the inner workings of things. He had given her a purpose, a salvation through education, and the only remnants of her previous life were scars like circuitry, directing her energies where they needed to be.

Submission complete.

Sorry I haven't gotten anything up yet, work's been pretty insane and between that and the boards being up and down, I haven't really been able to do much of anything. I'll try and have something done soon though.

Archpaladin Zousha here, with the stats for my android warpriest, Fireday complete! Found by a band of crusaders who got themselves massacred by the Technic League with Fireday as the only survivor. He then joined Iomedae's church to bring the Technic League to JUSTICE!

Full backstory and stuff forthcoming!

Grogant is a character (Human-Kellid, Fighter) I played previously in an Iron Gods game but I don’t believe we had even finished the first book when we had the last session… that was close to a year ago now so I don’t think we’ll be doing it again. He’s a seasoned adventurer and congenial but deep down he is filled with rage and regret, and it’s all focused on the Technic League.

”Background”:

Grogant was a member of a nomadic clan of numerians who traded goods with the inhabitants of the River Kingdoms to the south. However they also brought and discretely traded minor technological items with them.
Though he doesn’t know how they found out the Technic League descended on their caravan bringing their magic and technology to bare against the hopelessly outmatched smugglers. Grogant and his kin fought valliantly but on that day his saw his wife and children cut down by the unfeeling Gearsmen as their Technic League masters watched on dispassionately.
Though a competent warrior Grogant was blasted aside as a fireball exploded near him and lost consciousness. He was left for dead and alone of his kin survived. He swore he would make them pay for what they had done but Grogant is patient. He traveled the roads he new south to the River Kingdoms and worked as a mercenary for two years before joining the Pathfinder Society, honing and developing his skills to new heights. He has returned as a pathfinder to his homeland and taken up quests, even from the tyranical Technic League. He will take their coin, make his preparations and get to know them better. When the time comes he will strike a solid blow. A handful of their agents dead are easily replaced, for true vengeance he requires not just to draw blood but damage their reputation, loosen their hold on his countrymen.
The news coming out of Torch stinks of their meddling and a good opportunity to discredit them and dispose of whatever agents they’ve sent. He’s been to the town a few times in the past on his travels since returning. Perhaps it’s time he started being less cautious.

This specialized bullseye lantern has a ruby lens that covers the original lens, providing a deep crimson hue to the lantern’s light, allowing for more stealth when used in areas of darkness. This special lens can be set in place or removed as a swift action. While the ruby lens is in place, the lantern only provides dim light in a 60-foot cone. A dusk lantern’s red light is imperceptible to creatures relying on darkvision as their sole form of sight.
