"Colony must survive?" repeats Gylwinth with contempt. He turns tot he others and comments: "Not sure I see why it should..."

Coen ignores the plea for mercy, thinking he's seen the same desperation on the face of every murderer he's ever seen cornered. The fact that it's begging off in order to continue to kill and breed later only strengthens his resolve.

I think Coen is the only one who can still understand the Vegepygmy's language, otherwise it's just pantomime surrender and clicks.

@Brainiac: Yes, who among us can understand the language?

Coen is the only one who can understand it right now. If he chooses not to tell the rest of you, you won't know what it's saying, though you can see it raising its hands and stop attacking.

Male Human Starsoul Sorcerer 7 38/38 HP | AC 16 T 12 FF 14 | Fort +6 Ref +6 Will +8 | Initiative +1 | Perception +0

Seeing people pause in their fighting, Coen relents and tramslates.

"Do I need to translate? He's begging off because now we're too strong and it wants the colony to survive. A reminder though, the colony attacked us first and killed those who came here before us. They'll kill again, and ambush us if we are wounded on our way back."

"Then I say we kill him." says Gylwinth with some weight in his voice, as though this was a very important decision.

Then he stabs at the creature.

Longspear: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 191d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

"Tribe comes first. Always." he adds, solemn.

Gylwinth's spear drives through the vegepygmy's chest and explodes out of its back. The hammer clangs to the floor as it slumps on the end of the shaman's weapon.

Magic light hammer, 9 silverdisks.

"Ooo. Quite a shot," says Viv of Gylwinth's spear thrust.

"Umm... shall we have a look about?"

Gylwinth's unwillingness to parlay with the creature leaves Kaska a little uneasy. She's not sure her uncle would have approved, at least from things said by him in the past. On the other hand, it is clear the vegepygmy colony depends on the deaths of people, like her fellow residents of Torch, to reproduce. She isn't sure what there would have been to discuss given that fact.

In any case, the matter is ended, and there is nothing else to do but move on.

"Yes, let's look around."

The machines here look like they might have been designed to help plants grow, but only a foul-smelling brown algae grows in the troughs. There isn't anything of value to be found.

It seems you have explored as far as you can at the moment. You will have to repair the fuse and return to continue forward in this strange dungeon.

Fireday makes the sign of the sword after Gylwinth finishes the fight.

"When a tribe can only survive by preying on the tribes of others, then its prey will eventually turn predator in turn to fight back. This was inevitable."

He picks up the hammer and tests it with a few practice swings.

"I suspect this leader was one of the priests of Brigh who ventured down here to try and relight the flame of Torch. If none of us wish to use this hammer to avenge their deaths on the ones who sabotaged it, we should probably return it to the church when we return to the surface."

After they get their bearings and realize what they have to do to proceed, Fireday sighs a bit.

"I apologize that my knowledge of engineering will not really help us fix this thing."

Gylwinth gives a brief look to the hammer.

Then adds: "Is that it then? No way to fix the forge? We continue then?"

"Did we find anything that could heal Khonnir? Maybe he can fix the Torch," says Viv. "If not, we need to scour this place again!"

Not having found anything to help Khonnir, you search through this level of the dungeon one more time. When you reach the entry chamber, though, you see an unexpected sight--the merchant Sanvil Trett stands by the door entry door, casually holding a faintly glowing longsword at his side.

"Ah, there you are," he says. "You look like you've had a bit of a rough go of things. That's good. Let me thank you for dealing with most of the dangers down here. These ruins represent a significant discovery for the Technic League. I'll be taking credit for it, of course. This is exactly what I need to make it into the highest ranks."

Viv rolls her eyes and lets out an aggrieved sigh.

"Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal," she says in a flat, bored tone.

Gylwinth is confused. He doesn't understand what is really going on: "Who is this man? What is he doing here? He thinks he can simply take credit?!" he asks, looking at Viv mostly.

Fireday advances to the front of the group, a glare clear on his face.

"We did business with this merchant up in the town, and it appears he was a spy for the Technic League who followed us down here, looking to slay us after we've struggled through these ruins so he can claim whatever remains for his masters."

He draws his own sword and points it at Sanvill.

"If you have thrown your lot in with those murderers, you will share in their fate."

Sanvil smirks. "I've heard android blood runs clear. Time to find out for myself." He raises his sword.

Kaska stares sullenly at Sanvil while talks. Then she scans the area while Viv and Fireday talk, looking for the inevitable hidden flunkies to accompany Sanvil's sudden but inevitable betrayal.

Of course, everyone always knew the League had a hook in somehow. So of course this is happening. But why did it have to be right now?

Her knee is not good. There's a crunchy feel and a lot of pain when she walks.

He can't seriously be crazy enough to come here alone. Hard to believe he's all that. Best to let him come to us, I don't feel like running over there.

Kaska shifts to the right, over just beyond the ret of her group. As she moves, she grabs the bow off her back. By the time she stops she's ready to feather the man.

Kaska:
Basically the design is, if you can full attack, Rapid Shot is like flurrying with a bow; you get an extra shot, at -2 to everything.
Back in the 3e era, the Manyshot feat only took a standard action, but had a higher penalty. The clear division was you use Rapid Shot when you don't need to move, and Manyshot when you do.
PF changed Manyshot so it also requires a Full Attack action, presumably because some designer didn't know what they were doing.

Fireday's death seems to ignite a burning need for vengeance in your hearts. Viv's blast smashes into Sanvil's head, leaving him dazed and bleeding. Kaska takes advantage of his momentary disorientation by slicing him through from shoulder to hip! Blood sprays all over the ranger as Sanvil collapses next to Fireday.

He's dead, too. When you take the time to search him, he has the following: magic chain shirt, mwk longsword, ion tape, skillslot with a Mark I Knowledge (engineering) skill chip, zipstick, 5 batteries, 1 dose cureall, 1 dose universal serum, mwk bacpack, spellbook, Technic League pin (100 gp), 20 gems worth 100 gp each, 69 silverdisks, 154 pp, 380 gp, 250 sp, 12 cp.

He also has a few scraps of paper with a list of names on them. All of your names are on the list, as is Khonnir Baine's, but so is Garmen Ulreth's, the owner of the Silverdisk Hall. After his name is an additional note: "Warehouse?"

Gylwinth ignores the body of the traitor and leaps down to kneel near Fireday. It is only too clear that the paladin is beyond his healing skill.

"He is no longer with us. He fought bravely and brought glory to our group. Should we let him move on to be revered among our ancestors?" he asks, his voice filled with ceremony, his words the words spoken for centuries by Kellid shamen when heroes fall.
