A foul omen looms in the sky over the scoundrel city of Riddleport, an ominous shadow that defies the light. Is it a curse laid millennia ago by forgotten mages? Does it forewarn against the return of some terrible foe? Or does it portend a terrible

Come on, guys, we're in the end stages of this game.

I did a pushing post (for the players) two days ago and only one person has said anything (and I suspect that might have been a ninja post, since it didn't respond to the question I posed). We need to check and respond daily, please.

Now that you have scouted the island somewhat, it is time to decide how to approach. You can start at the obvious place (the jetty) and work your way inward. Or, you could fly to the interior of the island and potentially bypass the outer defenses at the risk of pulling those defenses in behind you. There is also the possibility that the central location is underground and you HAVE to go through the front door.

All these are options, but I need to know how you are going to approach so I can set the stage.

Half-Elf (Chelaxian) Female HP 109, AC 26/18/21, F +13*, R +11*, W +15*, Init +8, Per +22 Inquisitor 13

What do you all think? We could use invisibility now and try to get a better look at the interior, but Calla tends to be more of a blunt instrument. I'd prefer to go in the front/obvious door and not let the defenses come in behind us.

half-elf Oracle 13 | HP 107 | AC 27/15/24 | F +8, R +9, W +11(+2) | init +3, Perception +8 | CMB +10, CMD 25

I agree, if defenses flank us that could be the end, we could start with an illusion and try to draw them out for the big area spells

I am ears-deep in proposals for the next week. I will find time to set up the next stage, but it might take me a day or two. Sharpen your blades and be patient, please :)

Kel has offered to hit the demons with a flamestrike. I could add a fireball if everyone likes?

Half-Elf (Chelaxian) Female HP 109, AC 26/18/21, F +13*, R +11*, W +15*, Init +8, Per +22 Inquisitor 13

Considering they're demons, I think that's probably not super effective. Also, did we learn nothing from our last fight with drow? :)

I think I'd start with haste (you also have a scroll), then ear-piercing scream for this fight, IMO. Maybe even try using up that scroll of grease.

Kel, maybe better way to go is rainbow pattern? Perhaps try to fascinate some of the vrocks? If that works, we focus first on the glabrezu...

Also, FYI, I got asked to help out on a late project, so I may be a little slow to post in my PBPs until I get it done. Will still try to post daily, though.

Kel can go with rainbow pattern, or blessing of fervor if no haste already

Let me know when you are ready to go. This is going to be fun :)

((although not likely as deadly as the last one))

I have unexpectedly been without internet for a few days. I should be able to make a combat post on Tuesday. Sorry for the quiet.

@Lefrik - did you add Bruendor's +2 to hit and damage to your rolls?

Holy cow!

I can't believe we started this thing 8 years ago. Thank you guys so much for sticking with it and helping me to be a better GM through telling this somewhat chaotic story. With the end in sight, it is hard to believe we are almost done.

Thank you again, and Happy Game-Anniversary!

Much thanks to DM Bigrin!

Also, my apologies for disappearing. I got furloughed last Monday, and have been in a bit of a funk for a week. I'm just kinda now digging out from that.

So, um, we didn't die, did we?

Sorry to hear that Bruendor. Trying to keep all 15 of my employees working is a HUGE challenge. Fortunately, with the COVID changes to Unemployment, you should be able to sign up and collect on week 1, throughout the furlough.

HP 150/155, AC 26/13/24, F +14, R +15, W +6, Init +2, Per +16 (+19 traps)

Yep, I'm trying to stay optimistic - I had an obscene amount of PTO saved up, and my company let me use half of it right away, so at least this portion of my income is guaranteed, and it certainly suggests they want me back on the other side of this.

Still, scary.

Need the link for the map in your last post, GM! Still time to edit.

Half-Elf (Chelaxian) Female HP 109, AC 26/18/21, F +13*, R +11*, W +15*, Init +8, Per +22 Inquisitor 13

Loot
8x +2 shortswords
8x elemental gems
4x potion of invisibility
4x wand of fireball (5th level, 5 charges)
4x wand of lightning bolt (5th level, 5 charges)
4x wand of cure moderate wounds (5th level, 13 charges)
8x chain mail +2
8x cloak of resistance +2
8x spidersilk sheets
2888gp in mixed coins
18 gems

* As noted, I think Kel and I should split the wands of CMW.
* AB should take the fireball and lightning bolt wands.
* I'm going to take one of the short swords.
* I think maybe Lefrik, Brue and I each take two elemental gems, and AB and Kel each take one (I don't know how likely we are to use them, but I think AB and Kel have spells that give them a bit of versatility, so the gems will help the rest of us a little more in that regard -- we can always pass them off if need be) -- GM, what kind are they?
* It looks like AB, Kel and I all can upgrade to cloaks of resistance +2 (returning 2 cloaks of resistance +1 to the loot sheet, if I'm reading character sheets right). (Brue already has one, and Lefrik has a +3 cloak.)

That is some seriously nice loot.
I would be very happy with a +2 cloak.

The wands' usefulness will be a smidgeon limited against foes with spell resistance, but still!

Blegh, those rolls...

I fear the fire elemental won't be very useful, but I needed something quick to keep the ugly creep busy while I summon up something more... potent.

My aunt died around midnight last night, and I do not really feel like playing right now.
I shall try to get back to posting over the weekend.

Guys, I hate to see the game stagnating, and I know that several of you are going through personal issues.

My question is this: Do you (as a group) want to push on, botting people that aren't able to post, or go on a short (1-week) hiatus to give those struggling to find time/motivation to post a chance to get their feet under them?

Okay, level up. I'm not gonna lie, you're gonna need it!

Don't be afraid to use tactics here beyond "fireball and rush in".

Ask questions if you need to.

This is the BIG ONE!!

Good luck!!!!!

I was going to say - there are other tactics? Why wasn't I notified?!?

Well, to be fair, you're led by a goblin wizard, so yeah, that *is* your tactic :)

Half-Elf (Chelaxian) Female HP 109, AC 26/18/21, F +13*, R +11*, W +15*, Init +8, Per +22 Inquisitor 13

Kind of a lame new level for me, but:
+1 judgement/day, +1 fifth-level spell
+2 5th-level spells known: Hunter's blessing and greater lend judgment
+8 HP
+7 skill ranks (don't think it really matters what I put them in if this is our final fight...; if you want, though, I can figure it out)
+1 feat: ??

Biggest thing might be my changes to judgments:
Destruction judgment know is +5 to damage
Healing is +5 hp/round

--

Thoughts on the new feat? I could get three more rounds of bane ... which we might need if this fight goes for a long time. I have 8 rounds' worth, so could bump that to 11.

Other choice is probably Judgment Surge, which at this level would basically increase all my judgment values by +1.

--

Do we immediately get our new spell(s)?

--

Tactics-wise, do we maybe want to wait in the hallway at first; we can buff and hope a few come out to try to get us. Those doors make a nice checkpoint.

Which of those spells do you guys like? I'm only going to be able to cast one. Lend judgment will likely give a +3/+5 bonus to Lefrik (I could also go with fast healing instead of one of those, but once I pick I won't be able to change or Lefrik would lose it); hunter's blessing would give all of us +2/+2 against some of what's in the room (though for me at least wouldn't stack with my judgments).

I have two elemental gems from here. I'm inclined to crack 'em both, but ... do we know what type of gems they are?

Yes, You can immediately get your new spells.

Two of each kind of elemental gem.

One more level in Wizard for Abjurer 13.

HP: 3 + 2 Con. +1 Toughness + 1 favoured class = 7 (91)

Feat: At this point, it could only be Greater spell penetration; I need my magic to reach the enemy.

Skill points: 2 + 5 Int. = 1/7
Fly +1 (10)
Heal +1 (3)
Knowledge (arcana) +1 (21)
Knowledge (planes) +2 (19)

Spells studied:
7 - Banishment, Prismatic spray

2 - Extended shield* x 2, Fire sneeze x 2, Knock, Mirror image, See invisibility
1 - Ear-piercing scream x 2, Hold portal*, Magic missile x 3, Obscuring mist

I've used my pearls of power to regain the two 1st-level spells I used.

For my 7th-level spells and my new 4th-level slot, I've loaded up on area-spells, which I hope will be useful.

Greater spell penetration should give my damage-dealing magic a better chance of reaching the enemy.

... Like the man said, we need a plan.

+ Our prime target is the Drow matron running the show. We won't be able to surprise her, and she has a boatload of troops and spells. That is something we can't have.
We need to isolate her from support and neutralize her magic as quickly and efficiently as possible.

+ There are pre-battle buffs to consider - keeping in mind that Alvanna is likely to hit us with (Greater) dispel magic and to have some toadies capable of doing the same with her. We definitely need something to keep them too tied up to focus on us.
I plan to hit us all up with four castings of Communal protection from energy, and myself with Mirror image and Extended shield.

+ Once we're in, I offer to cast either Banishment or Prismatic spray on the room, hopefully whittling down the enemy. In the following rounds, I start casting Summon monster and you all start throwing elemental gems. If we fill up the room with troops and tie up the enemy, maybe we'll have a shot at getting near Alvanna.
If we can get within range, I hit her and her inner guard with Black tentacles. It might not be infallible, but it doesn't allow for saves or spell resistance, a grappled spellcaster can't vaporize us so easily, and she also becomes a fetching target for Calla's anti-elf arrows.

How does that sound?
