urrg... Putting together a spellbook for a 14th lvl conjurer for my RL campaign. It's a headache to make a wizard up at such a high level, much better to let them grow I think. My character died last session in the runeforge so I'm beeing writen in as a former Thaselonian runelord. Nice concept but a pain to create.

Okay, your current experience totals:
Berrin: 3019
Jemini: 3224
Taisper: 3095
Tandlara: 2809
Verik: 3465
Zander: 2996
You guys had some great roleplaying, so I amply rewarded it. I bumped up the RP experience to 6/12/18 and handed out a lot of 18s (as well as a 24 to Taisper for his very long post that mostly resolved the intraparty conflict.)
In terms of in-game days, the last two were the most experience-heavy. From combat, de-trapping things, your 1000th-post bonus, and exploration, you made 475 experience. Add the RP experience, and you all made 900-1100 experience for the two days (which lasted almost 300 posts!)

Huzzah. I've gone from 700 behind Verik, to 600 behind. Obviously the half-share system helped close the gap, but hopefully I've improved a bit too. I'm going to try and stay at least that close, or one EL = APL of XP at most. I don't think I could close it much more, as Verik and Jemini are posting machines!
I have to say I'm amused by the way Tandlara is going with the party, I kinda think she's adopting them a little, getting a little mother hen.
Its interesting, so I thought about how elven parents would bond with children differently than humans.
Elfs wouldn't have the same biological impulse to breed, theres always more time to have children. Also elven children take a humongous amount of time and energy to get to adulthood. So parental bonds would ahve to be very strong from biological stand-point. i.e. family is vital to elves, but with all the time they have they don't need to hang out with non-family trawling for biological input, so they are less likely to form big societies and cities. Also seems likely that elfs or at least elf women, aren't always fertile, because you don't want more than one of those intense elf children at a time. Also means that in elf society your siblings are always adults when your born, so they wouldn't share a human-like sibling bond, mroe like an uncle/aunt bond. If its all about preserving your genetic heritage, and it is, then elves would be intensely protective of elf children, as they are few and a huge investment, hence elves developing powerful magic and plenty of high level characters despite their far lower population than humans.
Wow... I babble...
Summary:
- elves don't have many children (Possibly have seasonal/multiannual fertility or other ways to not get pregnant.)
- the children they do have take forever to grow up, so they are a huge investment, by basic evolutionary biology this means that elf parents and families have really powerful bonds with their kids.
- elves only ever have one child at a time, but huge extended families that help take care of these kids. Kids mostly grow up in the company of elven adults not other children, so elven societal mores stay far more constant, and they don't develop sibling bonds like humans

I don't know Verik's details - but I'm a programmer. Sitting in front of the PC is what I do for a fair share of my waking hours. Furthermore I'm in the lucky position to work from home a fair amount of the time, which just helps. Usually you can spot the weeks when my post-rate goes down as the weeks where I have to drive in to the office for maintenance programming (as opposed to development programming, which I do at home) ;)

Taisper needs a hug! Poor guy!
Ahahaaa, well it's been a rough week. Again, I'm trying to open him up for improvement/"fixing" as has been suggested, and also making it clear I'm not trying to play the "waah it's my teacher's fault" card, 'cos that is certainly not my intent.
The other Inquisitors, I reckon, would have just encouraged his mental illness and kept a leash on him, knowing that once he was out in the world, he wouldn't be their problem, and no one would be able to call them on it. It's also part of his backstory; one reason why he got this assignment was his teachers recognized that he was going to be a capital-P problem eventually, so the summons was a perfect opportunity to have him taken off their hands and sent someplace where if he succeeded, they could take credit, but if he died or was imprisoned -- as was probably likely -- then they could just shrug and say "eh! so nu."
Something like that.

@Taisper: I spotted those feat-progressions in the conversation and thought it was pretty clever.
...
Disrelated:
I've been very strongly considering a monk of the empty hand for Carrion Crown. The whole process inspired me in different ways; one of which is a bit of feat design over on tenletter
You're welcome to have a look and comment on the idea :)

I didn't see The Social Network, but heard generally good reviews.
Of the films up for Best Picture I've seen King's Speech, True Grit, Black Swan, Toy Story 3, and Inception. Of those I think I'm leaning towards King's Speech as well. I didn't see Tangled, but I kind of have a semi-irrational hatred for CGI movies so I doubt I'd be crazy about it.
Verik Jarrow |
I just happen to be a sucker for Disney Movies, lol. But yes I've seen them all save Black Swan - just does not appeal to me.
To be honest I care a great deal more about the upcoming A Game of Throne - which I have no doubt will be the best fantasy TV show ever by a huge margin. Just in case you have not seen the trailer - I may well have already posted it, but better safe than sorry - I'll link it again.

Talking about feat progression in-character is fun, heh.
What is Taisper's planned progression? Your stats could go either way, but I would think melee would probably be more useful as most Teamwork Feats that you'll be getting bonuses from work best in melee.
That is a very good question, actually, and I've been waffling on that for a fair bit. I'm trying to keep him mostly balanced (except WIS, obviously) since the Inquisitor strikes me as a breadth-first sort of class.
That's a good point about the teamwork feats.
For Taisper's background, concentrating on things that up his spellcasting would make sense since that's where the majority of his actual talent lies, but aside from that his "round-o-buffs, then get in and fight" SOP seems to work best for him.
Feats I'm considering are precise shot, weapon focus, quickdraw, basically things to speed up his time-to-combat.
Heh. Yeah. Obviously, I've not given this nearly enough thought. I tend to just build my characters as the game progresses. It's so rare that I'm a PC that I don't have any chops for making cool builds. I just pick things I think are neat.

Don't forget to give thought to the other future too! It would be bangin if the lot of us make it into DM Barcas Carrion Crown! :D
Verik Jarrow |
I cannot wait for Carrion Crown! Subscribers get it on the 2nd of March right? Definitely want to take a look at the player's guide before committing to anything - though I am set on druid.
I wish Verik had the dex to take Precise Strike, since he and Taisper flank so much it would be very handy - 1d6 extra damage. But then Verik is pretty much set on taking Craft Wonderous Item, and Craft Magic Weapons and Armor. Maybe if we reach 9th and Verik has been able to make a dex item for himself, a fairly low priority for him.
Tandlara |
Ditto on being all up from Carrion Crown! Though I'm thinking of rejigging my backstory and being a bit more forward and cheerful, over a more macabre past. I get the feeling I won't get as many kicks out of his current incarnation. I do have this idea for a decent Int barbarian, who makes quite a good pathfinder style explorer with his trap sense and 4+int skills. The right feats and cosmopolitan could make it fun.
Being lively and forward is a nice counterpoint to Tandlara! And I'd still be the muscle, and possibly able to cover traps. At least the mechanical ones.

Oh yeah! Keep forgetting about that. I still like my core "older, wandering/rogue scholar" idea but don't have any mechanics to back him up yet.

Disposal? I am guessing not. Solution = track down friend hand cleaning implements glower.
Must admit I am concerned that the Player's Guide will not come out at the same time, does not seem to be mentioned. Have they come out at the same time as the first adventure installment previously?
Nope, it was the bathroom sink. Apparently also my toothbrush fell in this morning and my girlfriend didn't tell me before going off to work... at least she washed it off first? Oh well. Yeah the bum's sleeping on my couch right now so he'll be cleaning up good.
Anyway, was just reading the product discussion for the first Carrion Crown book and James Jacobs said on the 19th that th Player's Guide will be out: "Soon. We don't have a date yet."

Ah drunk people in your house.
This is why I am people for the toilet! Its a college apartment too, so their used to that sort of thing. I don't know if other countries have this happen more or less regularly, but I imagine Ireland is up there as far as alcohol consumption goes.
Taisper Stozs |
I live in Wisconsin, which is one of the most alcohol-fueled states in the Union. Our colleges regularly make the "most notorious party schools" lists and all that. I can recall folks at parties politely excusing themselves, calmly going and ralphing in the toilet, flushing, fumigating, then coming back to keep drinking and picking right up where they left off in conversation. That's some dedicated drinkin'.
Of course, I never did any such thing. Perish the thought.
Taisper Stozs |
Ah, okay. Taisper's keeping an eye out, then; he'll be looking to act as an outrider a ways ahead of the party, dismounting to check anything that requires a dismount. Also using Detect Alignment as they approach within its range. (I missed the two-mile thing earlier.) I'll IC this forthwith...

May I warmly recommend an elf (or dwarf) along with Breadth of Experience (APG, p151) - +2 all knowledge and profession checks, and allows you to make knowledge checks untrained. I think that is awesome.
Zander Orlovsky |
I'm noticing some errors with the Initiative rolls. It looks like you gave Jemini a +2 Init mod instead of a -2 and Tandlara got a -2 instead of her +2. Zander also got a +2 instead of his +6, not that it matters since my initiative rolls continue to be godlike. I think the correct order should be:
INITIATIVE
25 Zander
18 Tandlara
15 Slurks
14 Taisper
12 Boggard
7 Berrin
6 Verik
2 Jemini
Of course, feel free to let me know if I'm totally wrong and there a reason for the change of modifiers.
