I dont know who these people are but we can tell for sure they did not fair as well as we have. We should keep moving
| Lucas Holland |
the deeper we go the the weirder it seems the traps are padded so it won't kill you. But there is undead in here.
Lucas looks at his group checking to see if everyone is good.
How often did they say they sent people in here and there's been undead and a shadow thing. Unless that is part of it?
Savannah Kurgess
|
"The town of Kassen only sends people here once a year to light the lantern. I imagine they are the ones who came ahead and padded the tombs traps. To make it safer for the coming of age ceremony, I guess. The undead can't be a regular feature of this place... It would be too dangerous to use it as a ceremony for the teens of Kassen. Plus, the undead killed the villagers who came here to prepare the site for us and the ceremony."
"But the people who we were sent here to find by the Pathfinders were warriors and tomb robbers. They have a three month lead on us, if I recall. Maybe if they disturbed the tomb or desecrated it or something--maybe awakened something the villagers from Kassen don't normally mess with--it caused the undead to rise? Or maybe they became the undead? I'm not sure..."
"But, I think the robbers are tied to the undead presence. It looks like this pack comes from one of those robbers. And the villagers who came here to prepare the tomb's traps for the ceremony were taken by surprise by the undead and killed."
"Which is why I'm interested in this 'Ranger's Lament' place. If we can find out where it was, the proprietors could help us figure out who hired these people to come to the tomb. Maybe." After a moment she adds, "Hopefully."
With a shake of her head she puts her hands on her hips. "Investigations aren't really my forte. But, there's no use musing on it now. Come on. Let's finish exploring this tomb. Hopefully we can cleanse it of evil so no one else from Kassen gets hurt."
Onward to the door that leaves this room. Want to search it for traps Chorlo?
Eddie Brock
|
Eddie's eyes gloss over and begin to roll back in his head as Savannah ponders out lout what is going on, eventually he snaps out of it and shakes his head. Huh? Um just tell me who to hit okay? Grinning as he pats his trusty hammer before slinging it over his shoulder.
Vulen
|
Vulen chuckles at Eddies comment. You hit like child. Good thing I am here he says as he continues to chuckle
Eddie Brock
|
Eddie looks up at Vulen, Rage filling his eyes...Who you calling child mate? You take that back, and I might let that one go... Eddie's teeth begin to grind together as he tries to maintain control.
Vulen
|
Hold on there, He says as he rubs the top of Eddies head. I am not the enemy here little one. He chuckles, I know, you can be my pocket monster. I will put you in my pack and then throw you at the enemy. If you get injured I will bring you back into my pack he chuckles again.
Savannah Kurgess
|
Savannah places herself between Vulen and Eddie. "Easy boys, we're a team. And teams stick together. We need to focus on the real enemy here, and on our mission."
She gestures at the door ahead. "Catalogue the tomb. Determine the identity and purpose of the robbers. Light the lantern."
"I want to cleanse this place of the evil within, and we can only do that together."
Vulen
|
If I can find 5 more little ones to put in my pack I will have my own team Vulen grabs his gut and begins to laugh
Chorlo Fasthands_
|
Chorlo continues to look around as Vulen has a laugh and Eddie looks ready to explode.
"I will check the door then we can go through."
Looking for Traps: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 1 = 29
Chorlo moves to the side of the door if no traps are found and opens it while not standing directly in front of it. "Keep clear just incase"
| Lucas Holland |
Standing back watching Eddie and Vulen go at it
Hey not you two if you guys start fighting let me know I'll pull up a seat and help drag who ever loses to the fountain.
Turning twords Chorlo
who you think would win? Eddie's got some fight bottled up in him.

As the group opens the door to the next room, it appears to hold a long reflecting pool.
Chorlo is quickly able to determine that there is something just....wrong about the pool. It seems to be designed to test your courage and has an aura of fear radiating from it that Chorlo may be able to disable...
Eddie Brock
|
If Chorlo doesn't succeed in disabling the trap Eddie will try his own method for disabling it. I'd love nothing more than to show you what this "Little one can do, but now isn't the time or place." Eddie is able to keep calm, but is ready to blow off steam on the next creature that crosses his path.
Chorlo Fasthands_
|
Sorry I looked at this thread and forgot to reply
Chorlo looks around the room trying to determine how to disable the trap.
Taking 20: 20 + 6 = 26
GM Eddv
|
Chorlo finds that the room has an aura of fear to it - he can temporarily disable it but the spirits causing the room to be haunted would need a full on exorcism to go away permanently.
He can however calm them for about a minute or so allowing the party to continue.
The next room appears to be very much like the previous one - a set of tombs holding the bodies of various dignitaries from Kassen.
I will give you a moment to react and set up a marching order again
Savannah Kurgess
|
After Chorlo gives her the go ahead, Savannah follows him through the room and into the next tomb. She looks around, wary of the dead rising once again.
"Stay close until we're sure it's safe, team."
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

"We need to move quickly through this room and not come back if we don't need to." Chorlo says ready to run through the room
Eddie Brock

Eddie will follow right behind Savannah, then Lucas and Vulen in the very back, unless anyone disagrees.
GM Eddv

As Chorlo enters the room he can hear the high pitched skittering of a thousand tiny voices as he sees from the ceiling two giant groups of bats descend!

Acid Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Sorry! Forgot to mention I am attacking the swarm on the right, which I am right beside.
GM Eddv
|
Chorlo and Savannah quickly toss of their alchemical weapons at one of the swarms and while Chorlo misses, merely splashing the bats, Savannah hits them dead on and quickly the swarm of bats is weighed down by the acid, the smells of dissolving flesh and fur filling the room, their screeches of agony rising...and then quickly falling.

Then she takes a five foot step over to the right.
GM Eddv

While Chorlo may not agree with how easy this turned out to be, the swarms are pretty easily dispersed by Savannahs acid and the chamber once more runs silent.
Proceeding to the next room
The vaulted ceiling of this vast chamber shows significant signs of damage, with numerous cracks along its surface. In the center of the room, a 10-foot-wide bridge crosses a deep chasm. On the other side, a pair of stone statues watch over the end of the bridge in front of a set of grand brass double doors. The statues depict villagers holding shields and spears.
Savannah Kurgess
|
Savannah waits patiently for Chorlo to let her know it's safe to head inside...
...When he does, Savannah moves into the room and looks at the bridge.
"It's beautiful. ...But our last encounter with statues didn't go very well. Everyone, stay back! Chorlo, want to check out the bridge before some of us try to cross it?"
Looking at Vulen and Eddie, she asks, "If the bridge is safe, do you two want to lead the way across? Those statues have me worried, and I'd like our best fighters at the front."
"Ready team? Break!"
Savannah prays to Kurgess for protection, casting Virtue on Chorlo before he investigates the bridge. After Chorlo's sure its safe she casts virtue on Eddie and Vulen before they begin to cross the bridge.
Virute grants +1 temp hp for 1 minute or until it's expended.

Checking for traps on the bridge: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 1 = 12
"Just cover my back and lets hope this doesn't end in me falling to my death." Chorlo quick lights a torch and tosses it over the side.
Savannah Kurgess

Savannah nods. "Good idea. Tie it around your waist, Chorlo, just in case."
Savannah then hangs onto the other end, wrapping it around her arm, and bracing herself to hold Chorlo's weight in case of emergency.
GM Eddv
|
Predictably, as Chorlo moves out onto the bridge, just after giving the 'all-clear' sign, the statues begin to move and rush him
Bull Rush: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
It slams into him and he loses his feet and get shunted into the pit, prompting Savannah to spring into action trying to hold him
Savannah CMB/Grapple: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
She tries to hold him up, but she reacts to slowly and the rope burns her hands and she is forced to let up some slack, resulting in poor poor chorlo smacking the bottom of the pit with his face.
Fall Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2, 5) = 15
The rogue is NOT okay and can be seen slowly dying at the bottom of this 40 foot pit.
Eddie Brock
|
So I'm sorry Chorlo, I posted that I was going to assist Savannah but looks like my post got eaten.
Chorlo! Savannah hold this rope tight!
Eddie springs into action seeing his friend fall seemingly to his death.
Climb: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 2 = 18
DM quick question the fountain healed us as though we got a full rest, but did we gain back any uses of abilities that are uses per day?
GM Eddv
|
Yup, it was as though you started a new day from that point on
Eddie quickly climbs down the rope and is able to make his way to Chorlo in just 2 turns.
Eddie Brock
|
Awesome! I got you buddy!
Eddie runs up to Chorlo, pops the cork on his potion, and pors down Chorlo's mouth.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Eddie will then sling Cholo over his shoulders fireman carry, and climb up the rope. Savannah, Vulen! He's alive brace the rope i'm coming up!
Eddie will rage and use adaptable luck to insure he makes it to the top with Chorlo.
Climb: 1d20 + 9 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 3 + 2 = 34
Well I think that should suffice...
GM Eddv
|
(Yup, by my count he should be stable at -1 HP at the moment)
Eddie is able to quickly and heroically retrieve the body of the unfortunate, unlucky, rogue who is a having a bad, no good day here in the Crypt of the Everflame.
Savannah Kurgess
|
Now that her companions are safely back up, Savannah lets go of the rope and shakes her hands out. Then she pulls out their wand and uses it on Chorlo.
Healing: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Healing: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 I think you're at full now?
"You alright?"
Looking at the statues, Savannah asks Chorlo, "Do you think you can disable those things from here? Or are we going to need to fight them?"
GM Eddv
|
Now that Chorlo is back among the living it is really easy for him to see the pressure plate that he stepped on and can attempt to disable it if he would like.
GM Eddv
|
Chorlo is able to take the time and disable the pressure plate and THIS TIME when he crosses the bridge, the statues do NOT rush at him.
He notices that they actually ran along on a track on the bridge. The statues themselves seem to depict Kassen as a farmer.
The great big stone doors here appear to have been pried open somewhat recently.
The wide brass doors swing open on silent hinges to reveal a vast crypt. The only light emanates from a torch mounted above the crypt, flickering with a pale golden fire. Tall pillars march across the chamber, ending at a dais on the far side, on which is set a large stone sarcophagus. Its lid lay on the ground next to it.
A single form rests beside the coffin, that of a comely woman in tattered clothing. She appears to be asleep or unconscious. As the first PC enters the chamber, a dry, mirthless laugh can be heard from the dark recesses of the tomb.
“So, Kassen’s heroes have come to fight me again. You will make fine minions in my army of the dead. Come and meet your fate.” With that, a wicked-looking skeleton strides into view wearing polished mail and brandishing a cruel sword in both hands. A cold blue flame burns in its empty eye sockets.
Joining him are several more skeletons - these ones all wearing the clothing of the village elders you met at the beginning of this trial.
