Caulder's heart is just not in it... just wait til he hears that he cannot deduct defunct bolts from his persona expenses.

Derro's perception vs waking Ten 1d20 ⇒ 4

The derro thinking himself free from the giant threat, acts with impunity and creates a cacophony of sound that envelopes both Caulder and Pagrip.

Sound burst DC 16, damage 1d8 ⇒ 4
Caulder's Fortitude 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 damage taken 2
Pagrip's Fortitude 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 damage taken 4 and stunned

Next up: Ten, Esmerelda, Caulder, Vreeg
Pagrip delays

Man, Pagrip just can't pass a saving throw. :(

The disturbing shapes surrounding Pagrip come to an end as he doubles over in pain from the cacophony. Taking damage ends haunted fey aspect.

Continue to delay.

AC 10; HP 8/18; blind

Actually I forgot another +2 from his dwarven racial abilities, but that would still not be enough to pass the DC unfortunately

Female Human (Varsian) Paladin 4

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3

"I am going to have nightmares of floating cackling derros. I just know I will."

Good guy paladin ensures that Caulder takes the full 4 damage instead of 2.

Human (Varisian) Alchemist 3

"Wha-", Ten sits bolt upright, from fast asleep to wide awake, as Reginald dutifully nips at the alchemist.

Not bothering to wipe away the drool, Ten rises to his feet and picks up his spear. "Funny; my lecturer used to put me to sleep too."

HP: 22; Con 12; AC 13, T 9, F 12, CMD 17, Bombs 2, Extracts still prepared: cure light wounds

Next up: Caulder, Vreeg, Ten, Esmerelda
Pagrip delays

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

Technically, Pagrip's stunned until Vreeg's turn, not delaying. He can't act until then.

The line of effect to the floating derro effectively blocked by oversized distiller and his oddly tiny weapon*, Caulder holds his shot and backs across the room next to Pagrip. "Dwarf!" he commands. "Draw your weapon and follow the wall to your right. The way out is a five-foot corridor ten feet along. Block it and wait! You're not doing anyone any good here; you're just a target. Anything tries to get past you, you swing at it -- and shout." Clutching his symbol of Abadar, he points it at the derro, bidding "Justice be done," and a coldly-glowing spiritual longsword appears beside the floating dwarf-thing, spinning as it swings.

Move 15 feet west; cast spiritual weapon: round 1/3 attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

*:
As long as we're torpedoing our own side, I point out this text from enlarge person... ;)

Quote:
All equipment worn or carried by a creature is similarly enlarged by the spell. Melee weapons affected by this spell deal more damage (see Table: Tiny and Large Weapon Damage). Other magical properties are not affected by this spell. Any enlarged item that leaves an enlarged creature's possession (including a projectile or thrown weapon) instantly returns to its normal size.

Though he doesn't have the amazing reach without the long spear, being enlarged lets Ten still have enough innate reach to threaten Vreeg when "adjacent" to him - though not for squares further away (which the long spear would've covered).

The derro turns around in mid-air, appearing to claw to the ceiling, and hisses at Ten. He then speaks words of magic, heedless of the threat that Ten represents.

Ten's AOO vs spell casting 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 miss

I assume Ten's drawn his club, as the medium-sized long spear would be inappropriately sized and thus draw a -2 penalty.

Spellcraft DC 17:

1d4 ⇒ 4
Vreeg has just cast spectral hand

Map updated

Female Human (Varsian) Paladin 4

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

"Careful! The derro has created some sort of disembodied hand."

Crossbow shot: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 - 4 = 18
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2

Esme fires a bolt into the derros rear-end (and reloads).

Ten! Grab that thing and bring it down here so I can smack some sense into it!

hp 2

Next up: Ten, Esmerelda done already, Caulder, Vreeg
Pagrip delays

Human (Varisian) Alchemist 3

Is this a long spear for ants? This spear has to be at least... three times bigger than this!

Spellcraft 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

For future AoO, Ten would use 33 before he would use his club.

"Caulder, Darkbane, watch out for a floating, ghostly hand. I think that this derro has some nasty tricks waiting for us. 33! Get him!"

33 Slam 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
33 Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
33 Grab 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20

HP: 22; Con 12; AC 13, T 9, F 12, CMD 17, Bombs 2, Extracts still prepared: cure light wounds

When the stun effect on Pagrip wears off, he'll immediately move to follow Caulder's directions, drawing his warhammer along the way.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

If it's only 1 round of stun, Pagrip should have been able to move when Vreeg was casting and be out of his line of sight/effect by now. Waiting to see if Ten's tentacle's Grab took.

Pagrip stumbles his way a bit unsteadily to the door.

Pagrip has enough Acrobatics that he doesn't need to roll for this. On a disrelated note, although Vreeg is grappled, he's still quite high up - it'll take a grapple-to-move for Ten to force him down low enough for others to hit.

Next up: Caulder, Vreeg, Ten, Esmerelda

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

Spiritual weapon: round 2/3 Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Caulder moves in front of the corridor opening to provide cover for the defenseless Pagrip.

The ghostly longsword slices a thick ribbon of sickly blood that drips in squirts. The derro squeals in his misbegotten tongue, struggling against the tentacle that is wrapped around his leg, then he switches to common, "die die die die! you will all die!" A morbid swirl of dark energy forms around his left hand as he mumbles words of magic - but the twisted magic fails to hit Ten.

Concentration 1d20 ⇒ 12 success
Ranged touch vs Ten 1d20 ⇒ 4 failed

Spellcraft DC 16:
Ray of enfeeblement

I was wondering whether the ranged touch attack would provoke from Ten. Grappled creatures do not get AOOs I think, but maybe there's some intricate ruling here.

Next up: Ten, Esmerelda, Caulder, Vreeg
Pagrip delays (at new location)

Human (Varisian) Alchemist 3

33's well-timed yank sends the ray off course.

"Tighter 33! Don't let him do that again." Ten commands.

33 Grapple to Pin 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
33 Damage *see discussion thread* 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

HP: 22; Con 12; AC 13, T 9, F 12, CMD 17, Bombs 2, Extracts still prepared: cure light wounds

Female Human (Varsian) Paladin 4

Esme puts away her crossbow, picks up her greatsword and takes a 5 foot closer to the grapplers.

"Ten, stop toying with that derro and bring it down here."

2hp

The derro yelps in concern as the tentacle wraps more around him and squashes him against the corner between the ceiling and wall.

Next up: Caulder, Vreeg, Ten, Esmerelda
Pagrip on stand-by

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

Delay

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

Meh, forgot I have one more round of sword. Spiritual weapon: round 3/3 Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Good man, that slowly whittles away at the hp-total

Muttering and shrieking incoherently (not least because nobody understands the language) the derro strains and pulls against the collected might of the tentacle. Its blue skin turns a shade bluer as he does so.

Escape the pin of doom 1d20 ⇒ 7 no

Next up: Ten, Esmerelda, Caulder, Vreeg
Pagrip relaxes

Human (Varisian) Alchemist 3

"Calm down! Stop struggling!" Ten barks at the derro, "Darkbane, get some rope ready and we'll tie him up."

33 Grapple to Move 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20
33 Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

HP: 22; Con 12; AC 13, T 9, F 12, CMD 17, Bombs 2, Extracts still prepared: cure light wounds

The derro will have nothing of Ten's well-minded advice. His struggles very nearly make him unmanageable to Ten - though the tentacle still maintains a firm grip.

Next up: Esmerelda, Caulder, Vreeg, Ten
Pagrip relaxes

Female Human (Varsian) Paladin 4

Esme smashes the pommel of her greatsword into the derros temple.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 7 - 4 = 16
Non-lethal Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16

"Might be easier to tie it up if it is asleep."

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

Waiting to see if Esme was successful in knocking it out.

Just moments after the pommel smash to the derro's temple a thick dark purple bump forms. The jarring impact is enough to shut the derro up for but a stunned second, then his hissing tirade spills over even more. Spittle spatters all over as the little creature screams hell and high murder.

Sense Motive or Heal DC 20:
It might be all bluster - but the derro still seems to be going relatively strong health-wise.

Next up: Caulder

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

Heal or Sense Motive 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

"Shut that thing up, will you?" Caulder complains from the doorway.

Inspiring Word on Ten: +2 on attack, skill checks, ability checks and saving throws for 1 round

With a screech that is accompanied with a few dark purple bubbles that quickly pop and drizzle down the side of the derro's mouth the little creature tries to free itself from Ten's tentacle. To no avail.

Escape! 1d20 ⇒ 3 not

Next up: Ten, Esmerelda, Caulder, Vreeg
Pagrip delays

Human (Varisian) Alchemist 3

While 33 wraps around most of the derro, Ten uses his other limbs to clumsily re-enact a submission hold he saw in an underground fight once.

33 Grapple to Damage 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33
33 Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

HP: 22; Con 12; AC 13, T 9, F 12, CMD 17, Bombs 2, Extracts still prepared: cure light wounds

Female Human (Varsian) Paladin 4

Esme swings once again at the held derro...

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

Ten forgot his +2, not that it matters. Does a CMB count as an attack roll? Seems like it ought to. Delay.

Oh, and not that Caulder knows, but anyone Spellcrafty ought to know that blindness is a dismissable spell, which means that if we can take the derro alive and intimidate him into cooperating for 1d6 x 10 minutes, we won't have to go spend good money on a dispel magic for Pagrip.

Esmerelda's greatsword connects again with the derro - the little bugger is showing signs of urgency now, having sustained an apparently impossibly large amount of hurt. There's still a fire of defiance in his eyes though.

Next up: Caulder, Vreeg, Ten, Esmerelda
Pagrip relaxes

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

Delay, as stated above (although it probably got lost in my OOC comments)

With a triumphant shriek the derro tries to tear itself free - but its bravado quickly shatters against the tight constraints of the tentacle. His fierce eyes defiantly stare at Esmerelda, then the massive great sword, then Esmerelda, then: "parley?"

Escape attempt 1d20 ⇒ 3 no

Next up: Ten, Esmerelda, Vreeg
Pagrip and Caulder in delay

Human (Varisian) Alchemist 3

Spellcraft (blindness/deafness) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

33 Grapple to Maintain (No Damage - possible, right?) 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27

Ten maintains his hold, but without bending or twisting the derro's limbs out of shape.

"Darkbane, Caulder? You two are good at reading out terms of surrender, right? Get him to restore Pagrip's eyes first."

HP: 22; Con 12; AC 13, T 9, F 12, CMD 17, Bombs 2, Extracts still prepared: cure light wounds

Female Human (Varsian) Paladin 4

"You have the right to remain silent. You have the right to a cleric. If you do not have a cleric, one will be appointed to you. Any spell cast by you while captured will result in your immediate execution and or severe beating."

"Now dismiss the curse you put on the dwarf!"

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

"Here, Pagrip," Caulder calls warily to the dwarf in the passage. "Come this way so he can see you. No funny business, dwarf," he growls at the derro. "Sorry," he clarifies to Pagrip, "other dwarf... thing."

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Apparently, Pagrip wasn't paying attention in class the day they talked about blindness/deafness.

Pagrip carefully moves back down the corridor towards Caulder's voice. "You see, Caulder?" he says. "There's a reason we have names. Avoids little situations like that."

When he reaches everyone again, he says, "I wouldn't worry too much about my eyesight. These sorts of magical effects are rarely permanent. I'm sure my sight'll come back in a few minutes."

"bah, dwarf is stupid." The derro looks at Esmerelda and Caulder in turn, not paying attention to Ten at all. "if I cure dwarfs eyes, you let me go. and I let you go. no hard feelings til next time?"

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

"Not so fast," Caulder replies. "There's also the matter of the missing pieces of our Shoanti idiot. We're not leaving without him."

Female Human (Varsian) Paladin 4

"Cure dwarfs eyes and tell us about the Shoanti and we will consider your proposal."

Grudgingly the derro curls his lips in Pagrip's direction, who suddenly finds sweet visual sensations flood his brain again. "there. stupid dwarf sees. what Shoanti?" His brows furrow as he tries to piece it together. "why you care 'bout primitive? he paid for. dunno... parts all over. maybe fat otyugh have some. oo there's some paint on a piece in Vreeg room. um um... maybe freak golem got a piece in him too, you find him behind barred door. I go now?"

Sense Motive DC 15:

The derro's genuinely puzzled about the relevance of some Shoanti body parts; he doesn't know of any specific parts (other the one in his room), but offers some places he thinks may have a piece.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

Sense Motive 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

LoreKeeper wrote:
"why you care 'bout primitive? he paid for.

"Don't get me started," Caulder rolls his eyes. "Dumbest damn mission I've ever been tasked with. We got the otyugh's piece, and we got the head off the ... effigy, or whatever in there," he nods back the way they came. "A piece with paint? What's that? It have arms on it?" He flails his own upper appendages helpfully to illustrate.

Female Human (Varsian) Paladin 4

"Please don't get the cleric started..."

"Where in Vreegs room?"

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Pagrip rubs his eyes as his vision returns. He shakes his head as the derro lists possible places for the body parts. "I just don't get the point to taking a dead body, cutting it up into pieces, mixing it with pieces of other bodies, and then putting them back together as new bodies," he mutters. "If your goal is a complete body, well, you had that to begin with!"

"dwarf stupid. it's Art!" Explaining to Caulder and Esmerelda he adds: "hard to miss." He thumbs to his room. When Esmerelda takes a look she sees a man's torso, the chest bearing numerous tribal tattoos and with the right arm still attached. The arm periodically thrashes and clutches at the air as if it were alive.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Cleric 3

"Pharasma damn every damned Shoanti to the Abyss!" Caulder swears a blue streak. "We're still missing an arm!" He swings back to the derro. "C'mon, think, dwarf! Legs with the otyugh, head on the effigy, torso in the bedroom (and don't think I'm not trying not to think about why it's there), and left arm...?" he leads hopefully.

Female Human (Varsian) Paladin 4

"uh...Why is it moving?" Esme queries as she points at the twitching torso "Pretty sure it shouldn't be doing that."
