Chronicles of the Silver Rose Company

Game Master Patrick Curtin

This campaign is my attempt to play a canonical Planescape campaign using the updated Pathfinder ruleset. The game actually predates the release of Pathfinder, but we have managed to update as we have needed.

I'm less busy these days but I do sometimes forget to check this page!

Karrin is going to use swift flight to get within range of the medusa, preferably away from the tentacles.

attack: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33
damage: 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (11) + 8 + (6) + (1, 2) = 28
6 cold 3 vs evil

Female catfolk sorceror 13

An annoyed looking Merle makes another attempt to dispel the tentacles

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13

Stoner Girl Cat Fight Rd 3

Hamar: 17 Miss
Medusa Mummy: 15 phantasmal Killer on Hamar
Alessia: 14 Miss [see previous post -assumed move to B10]
Merle: 11 dispel fail
Justin: 8 mag miss- hit
Karrin: 6 hit

the tentacles seem to be quite stubborn. They wave almost mockingly as Merle casts her spell again. Karrin flies up and strikes the undead Gorgon with her axe. It is a tellling blow

NEW ROUND!!!

Justin: 8
Karrin: 6

Anyone who has not made a prior successful DC 21 Will ST vs. the medusa's aura of despair and is within 30' of it must do so this round. If you succeed you are good for the rest of the brawl. Also, if within 30' you are vulnerable to its gaze attack. You can either close your eyes and fight blinded or make a Fort DC 21 ST each rd or turn to stone (or be Alessia and be immune to everything)

New Map

I cleaned up the map a bit - It is a bit nicer now

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Ah yes, Very nice. Even Justin can tell who is who now! :P

The Wizard takes a cautious step back, makes sure he can see the gorgon between his companions, and fires another Force bolt through his blasting rod.

Using 'Force Missile' Evoker power, as Magic Missile,

Force Dmg: MM+Evoker bonus dmg+rod bonus dmg: 5d5 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 2, 1) + 6 + (2) = 23

Dark Archive

Assuming each square is 5 foot Merle would be out of range of the gaze and aura right?

Round 3

The Barbarian, eyes still closed, swings his vorpal blade at where the believes the foe to be.

Miss Chance 1d100 ⇒ 66 High Hit - Low Miss. HIT!

Vorpal Blade Attack 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 15 + 2 = 37

Confirm Crit? 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 15 + 2 = 34

Good bye head! - Damage 1d6 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 2 = 11

Will save 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 2 = 26

Yes - pretty much everyone not in direct combat is out of range. Next map will have a dedicated 30' blue circle that will show the gaze/aura boundary

Good bye head!

Well then!

The barbarian, eyes screwed tightly shut, his Luckstone ablaze with primordial elemental energies upon his brow, swings his vorpal blade through the air. The impossibly keen blade, so sharp the edge seems to shimmer cleaves the air with an odd *snicker snack* sound, as if the sword was parting the very particles of air in twain as it went.

The mummified medusa, beset on all sides by foes, had been just about to disengage and trigger some sort of foul sorcery when Hamar's blade catches her unawares, slicing through her petrified neck as easy as a knife through soft cheese.

The snake-bedecked head pops off into the air, a final screech of rage and fury fading from its lips as the undead thing's head falls to the floor!

Well done!

The barbarian grunts, "Can I open my eyes yet? Has my blade completed its grim task?"

Female catfolk sorceror 13

"Uh considering it's head is currently flying through the air I'm gonna go with a yes?"

female human wight fighter (armor master) 8 / furious guardian 3

For a moment, Alessia stands as still as one of the statues surrounding her, her eyes scanning the darkened room. Then, hefting her sword, she begins to make her way deeper into the tower. As she brushes past Hamar, she treads on the medusa's mummified head, which crumbles into dust.

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Ouch! NICE touch Alessia! :P And nice work Hamar!

"Um, yep. I think you got her. It. It's dead Jim."

As Alessia treads on the mummified head, reducing it to powder, Justin murmurs to Memnon,...

"So much for mummified Medusa snake heads as power components I suppose. Let's see what else she had on her."

Justin examines the remaining remains of the mummified Medusa. Casting his detect magic charm to make sure he does not miss any seemingly innocuous items.

Per: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Justin very carefully, and under Memnon's verbose directions, unwraps some intact mummy wrappings from the Medusa's torso, and stores them carefully in his pack. Right next to the wrappings of Memnon's former boss.

YES! I have magic item plans for those! :D (DOn't worry, just flavor for a normal magic item) :P

Female catfolk sorceror 13

"So uh we sure thats everything in here none of these are gonna start moving are they?" Merle indicating all the statues

The Barbarian finally opens his eyes, "Better lucky than good hey?

If these are all victims of the creature do we free them from their stony prisons or is this an unwise idea?"

female Tiefling 13th level Duskblade

"I'm thinking that a problem for later Hamar, these folks have been trapped a while I'd guess, leaving them for now isn't going to cause them any more harm, we got to finish this mission first."

2 questions: has the magical darkness dispelled any with the death of the medusa, and do we now level up?

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Justin shakes his head.

"Sorry to disappoint you Merle, and Hamar, But the rest of these are not moving anytime soon. Unless Memnon is capable of whipping up some ancient super-potion I'm not familiar with? These poor souls are stuck like this until someone with some high-powered transmutation magic comes along to return them to their original, fleshy, forms."

"I've heard of magics that can imitate a medusa's or a gorgon's petrification attack. And reverse it. But I don't have anything like that in MY spellbook. Honestly not certain I could even cast that yet."

Justin jabs a thumb at Karrin.
"At the risk of sounding like a parrot, I'm with General Badaxe on this one. We are on the hourglass. And time is running out. We don't have much longer before the Mummy-Lord's phylactery restores his body, and we have to kick his dusty-bum all over again. Doable, but annoyingly frustrating. We should get moving."

"Time is running out..." Alessia echoes as she slowly walks deeper into the darkness.

Male Shadow's Status | Human Scout 6/Barbarian 1/Dervish 5 | HP=114/114 + -2 Levels| AC=23 (Variable) | Init. +6 | F +8 | Ref +15 | Will +10 | Per +19 (Darkvision)

Hamar shrugs and follows close to Memnon as the little skull is likely still damaged and Alessia is clearly the better scout for this mission.

Memnon has indeed been quieter than normal this past few. He didn't participate in the last fight, and he caught some rather bad damage from the fireball the medusa tossed up. He is wobbling a little as he flies. When Justin asks him about mummy wrappings his answers are scattered and vague. Justin is suddenly painfully aware that there is no way to 'heal' Memnon, and he has been copper and silvered in the health department these past few fights, but it has to be adding up

Alessia walks deeper into the dark chamber. There are more statues, hundreds perhaps. the room looks to be a natural cavern that was worked into some sort of regular shape at some point. Towards the back there is a tunnel mouth. The tunnel mouth is a stylized crocodile, with the mouth emerging from the side. A faint hissing whispering sound can be heard within the tunnel.

Spoiler:
The head represents Ammut, the demon god of the Egyptian pantheon that ate the hearts of sinners that were judged and found wanting

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Justin frowns as he takes a closer look at the far-more-silent-than-usual Mimir.

"Memnon? C'mere a sec."

The wizard slowly removes his magical Haversack, and tugs open a side pocket. He looks at the Mimir, (most of) his usual snarkiness gone.

"Hop in. C'mon, in the bag buddy. You're starting to look like I feel. And I wouldn't wish THAT on anyone I like. I know about a couple of spells that should fix you right back up to your usual, 'charming', self. But until we can get back so I can find those scrolls, You are in danger of becoming an ACTUAL paperweight. You cannot afford to take any more hits. And I cannot afford to lose you."

Suddenly abashed, Justin coughs gently.
"Do you have any idea how hard it is to find anyone I can argue with on my intelligence level?" His asks, his small smirk back in place.

The wizard holds up the bag and the open side pocket again. "Don't worry, I'll be sure to call on you if I need your advice. I don't know if you have any self-repair magics in that crystal noggin' of yours, but even if you do, you need to give it time to kick in. So, in the bag. And while you're in there, see if you can remember a potion recipe for healing crystal will you? We'll make sure to keep some around for the next time you decide to be a 'Battle Bombardier'."

Do I need to make a roll to try and persuade him to get in the bag? Or is he actually hurt enough to do it without an argument? (Which would tell us how hurt he really is!) :)

EDIT- I am guessing I cannot hear what Allessia hears yet? Since she went on a little ahead?

female human wight fighter (armor master) 8 / furious guardian 3

Alessia continues to walk toward the tunnel mouth. As she approaches the carven crocodile head, she stops for a moment, almost as if to turn around, but then continues forward as before.

Alessia sees a narrow passsge, some five feet wide. There are hanged bodies every ten feet dangling down, their withered toes just brushing the dusty rock floor. Alessia can hear a soft rustling and twisting coming from the hanging corpses

Hamar's tower of will fades, as the Wizard offers his skull companion a rest, the scout decides to scout ahead. He pauses next to Alessia and watches the corpses to see if there is any movement that indicates that they will animate.

Still not satisfied, he plunks one with an arrow - Ranged Attack 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30 - Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Holy Smokes Batman! Lucky level 13?!?!? :)

I may wait on the wizzie, most of his level-up bonuses (more spells!) can't be done without a 'long rest' anyway. And I've been mulling over an idea. :) (Don't worry. It's a calm posty-thought idea. Calm for me anyway.) :P

female human wight fighter (armor master) 8 / furious guardian 3

Alessia, for a moment seeming almost like her old self, gives a small noise of disgust. Tightening her grip on her sword, she pushes through the hanging corpses.

"I mean they're just an axe trying their best, how would you feel if Ferissirion called you a bad wizard? I bet you wouldn't like that very much? I think, maybe, if you're not too stuck up and uncaring about people's feelings, that maybe you should apologize and maybe kiss and make better? I mean I'm not a wizard or anything, and maybe you think you're better than axes or something, but not all of us can cast magic, some of us got to deal with bad guys the hard way, and sure I could imagine how someone like yourself might look down on that, but there's no need to call us bad."

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Justin recovers enough to stop looking like an owl. He coughs gently.

It had been a while since he remembered having a 'Karrin-Class' headache.
And most of those had been a result of her training.
He is starting to feel one coming on. And it had nothing to do with training.

The wizard pinches the bridge of his nose, and tries not to sigh. Too loudly.

"I certainly respect Ferissirion enough not to kiss it and get frostbite. Thank you. NO offense Feriss."

"I wasn't calling Ferissirion a 'Bad, Axe'. I was making a pun. I called YOU a 'Badaxe'. As in 'Bad A$$'. I wa,... Oh nevermind. Why, HOW do I,..."

JUstin bows his head and clomps after Alessia and Hamar. Muttering under his breath.

(Something about pearls and swine? No? True Wit is never appreciated?)

If anyone snickers, the wizard either doesn't hear it, or is doing a masterful job of pretending he didn't.

As the corpse begins to move, Alessia savagely slashes at everything within reach.

Attack: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (14) + 19 = 33 damage: 1d10 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 1 = 17

Finally got that third attack...

Alessia wades into the hallway like a small child at a piñata party. The hanging corpses are merely that - corpses. Little more than husks, zombies mummified by ages spent in the desiccated air. Her blade slashes through them and then there is a sudden pulse of purple power as she approaches the midpoint of the tunnel.

Negative energy: 10d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2, 5, 5, 4, 6, 2, 5, 3) = 43

The entire tunnel lights up. Hamar was just about to step inside when the flash went off, he instinctively turns away and eludes the effects. Alessia feels as if something bathed her in a healing glow

I believe that negative energy heals you, yes?

It does; Alessia had been close to full health from the last time this happened though. She's definitely at full HP now...

Hamar flinches, "Good thing the Silver Rose has made me paranoid, only a few months ago I would have waded into the tunnel instead of firing an arrow". He turns back to Mel, "Have you spells Priest that can protect us from such dastardly evil?"

Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Justin comes up behind Hamar.

"Yep. Paranoia is your friend. Just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you!" He agrees with the Barbarian.

"Well, we've still got the Negative Protection Ioun stones,..." The wizard says thoughtfully, indicating the darkest purple one of the group constantly circling his head in recent days.

",... But that was a LOT of Negative Energy. At best the stones would only have absorbed a fraction of that. A small fraction. Hm, Maybe a way to bypass it like the early doors?"

Justin steps back and scans the entrance to the 'hallway of hanging death',...

Good roll

Justin sees a small irregularity in the wall. He searches around and a small cover unlatches, revealing a small declivity. It looks as if a signet ring or amulet or something of the sort would fit in there

I should note that I never posted the loot from the mummy Medusa. I’ll will rectify that failure when I get home. But there was a golden signet ring that would fit the declivity

"Yeah, we could. OR,..." Justin drawls slowly, pointing to an apparently ordinary spot on the wall. He carefully feels around the location until he lifts a disguised cover, revealing a small depression in the wall.

The wizard reaches around to the side pocket of his magical Haversack (the side NOT containing a very tired and moderately damaged Mimir) and murmurs 'Signet Ring'. He pulls out the signet ring from the Mummy Medusa's loot.

",...OR, we could try this?"

Justin peers down the hallway, "Um, Alessia? I'm going to try and disarm the, negative, energ,..."

Seeing the stalwart undead warrior continue her rampage against the (possibly undead-ified) hanging corpses, the wizard shrugs.

"Well, if the first blast didn't phase her."
Justin inserts the signet ring into the wall socket.
