This also has the inconvenient side effect of negating Justin's favorite opening tactic. Darned inconsiderate of them Justin pouts.
Inconvenient, but not impossible. Justin gathers energy and focuses it into flames held in his hands. He glances around and sees that Arnav is currently hardest pressed, but holding his own, but that Merle has one on her. He carefully aims his ball of flame behind the ghoul after Merle, and if it happens to catch one of it's buddies in the blast, that works too!

Using 'Fiery Burst (Reserve) Feat' power to throw a 5d6 small fireball (5'Radius, DC:21 (Ref) for 1/2 dmg) behind the ghoul attacking Merle. IF it catches any other ghouls in the blast, great, as long as I can keep it away from the friends! :)

The smell of ozone around Nari had dissipated once they left the laboratory and she went back to her customary spot near the back, quietly following the others. But now there were enemies attacking her friends, and that wasn't to be tolerated. It seemed that Justin was dealing with the one chasing Merle, so she targeted the biggest group instead. Her eyes glowed and the air near her got much warmer as a current of fire whooshed into being, heading for one of the ghouls surrounding Arnav, with some of it you continuing on to a second ghoul.

Actually,... you are correct. It should be 5d4+5 (basic spell) +another +5 for the Evocation Wizard power. So 5d4+10. That makes the total above a 21 points of Force dmg. Thanks for catching that Philo! :)

The dark form lets out a blood-curdling moan, and whips another tentacle of dark smoky ectoplasm towards Arnav, to little effect. The combined attacks, both magical and physical seem to be dissapating the dark creature, but oh so slowly.
Blayze fires a bright-shining bullet at the thing, but it just misses. Ekuur's searing light spell also misses.

Justin curses himself for preparing a plethora of unusual spells that day, but only having memorized ONE stinking Magical Missiles spell. Currently the only spell in his spellbook capable of never missing a ghost-like creature.
Justin focus his will, and conjures up a tiny star of light in one hand, then hurls it at the cloud creature above. It isn't nearly as effective as a full-powered memorized Missile barrage, but he still nods with grim satisfaction as it leaves a small hole in the cloud when it hits.
