Justin and Ekuur note that the body has been outside for a while. Scavengers have picked a lot of it clean, but the mummified face of a Halfling male shows he died agonizingly.
Justin note a small belt pouch and several flasks secured to a leather belt hidden under the rags. A ring sparkles from on small bony finger
Justin Case
"What has he gots in his pouches my precious?" Justin mutters with a wry smirk. He bends over the body, and after sketching a quick gesture of diefic respect, removes the pouches, vials and ring from the unfortunate halfling.
"Whatever killed him looks like it either scared him or tortured him to death. But I don't think this is one of the vanished we're looking for." Justin says as he stands back up.
"Not unless he was a retired or wannabe troubleshooter who went looking for the missing folks on his own. Full pouches, potion vials, and a most likely magical ring. No Townie walks around like this. This is adventurer's gear." He adds sagely as he inspects the contents of the victims pouches.
Purely for identification, of course,...

The halfling corpse has a dagger, two scroll cases (wax sealed), 500 GP in coins and jewels, 3 potions, the aforesaid ring (a pink gem with golden flecks with a gold setting). His clothing is tattered, but there is a bed roll that looks as if it is still servicible
Assuming Det Magic is cast
The dagger, ring, one scroll case and the potions all glow

Karrin:
Everyone else: Karrin's big axe begins to glow a soft white color
Justin Case
Yes, Justin casting detect magic should have been in that post. Thanks. :)
"Does your axe normally do that?" Merle pointing
With a sigh, Justin tucks the items into his coat pockets for later examination. When they AREN'T under threat of imminent demise. He figures they should have a break in their schedule sometime in about 3 months. For 10 minutes or so.
"Only when the party's about to begin." The wizard answers Merle.
"What's up Karrin? Orcs? Ghosts? Dragon?" He continues cheerily as he also pulls out a wand and readies his spells.

The bore hole ripples and fades, becoming a place of utter darkness. Swirling shapes dance in the party's peripheral vision. A cackling voice says
::We shall reclaim our sibling's face, and devour your souls!::
Ekuur feels a strange pressure against his thoughts, as if something was prying into his soul
Will save for Ekuur please. Also Will save for all to disbelieve the new terrain

Will save
1d20 + 6
Merle's Yggdrasil mark/gift able to help here at all?
I'll cut you a break for ingenuity:)
Merle
Dungeon Monkey
Ekuur feels himself surrounded by darkness. He cannot see anything, and the sounds of his friends seem far away. His head lances with pain as his mind fills with whispers
::submit:: ::resistance is futile:: ::don't make this worse than it has to be:: ::submit::
A hot flare of anger Sears through Ekuur's soul, as scalding as his native Athas' desert winds. The voices fade, and he hears Merle's warning of the mask-faces return. He is still blanketed in darkness though.

Ack! I snooze I lose! ;P Presuming Justin can only see blackness? Second will save?
Will save 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 Or NOT! ;P
"Where?! Where are they? Merle? Tell me where to aim!" Justin cries, Waving his own lightning bolt wand around, unsure of where to fire without hitting his companions.
Ekuur
Ekuur looks at the figure, rage in his face. He lashes out with his trikal, flames already licking across the three blades. "I burn you with the flames of the Great Fire!"
full attack 1 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

Understood. My family has been sending some crazy pictures from Cape Breton
Ekuur's trikal lashes out and strikes the spectre above his head. The foul creature screeches as it hits its insubstantial form
Karrin swings Ferissirion in a murderous arc. The axe glows blindingly white and cleaves straight through the other spectre, causing it to freeze instantly then explode into shards of frozen ectoplasm.
Justin's head clears and he can see again. As can all the others
The dead one was managing the hallucination so no more will saves needed
The second spectre hisses as the stink of ectoplasmic goo fills the bore hole

The party's vision clear. Merle's green tree fur markings seem to writhe on their own. The foul porcelain-faced spectre roils above them, screeching
Justin Case
"Oh,.... EW!" Justin says as his vision clears, and he gets a good at the floaty-mask-things. WAY too close for comfort.
"I thought we were DONE with you guys! Why do they keep coming back for more whoop-a$$? Oh well, glad to oblige! Ragadolf's Resilient Sphere!" Justin cries as he tosses a small object, a shining crystal sphere, at the nearest spook.
Been wanting to try this! Cast Resilient sphere, (DC:20 (Ref) to negate, SR yes-do I need to roll?) Acts as a Wall of Force that can be dispelled by Dispel Magic, otherwise 9 minutes duration, 9' diameter sphere. Cannot be moved by either outside or inside forces. (Updated from 3.x)
"Suck Force Sphere Spook!" Justin crows in triumph.
IF it gets trapped, we can't hurt it from outside, BUT it can't get away either. AND I can still conjure stuff into the sphere WITH it. I've been wanting to try this since I got this spell! :D
Justin Case
Sorry, RL killing me. And I haven't even STARTED doing taxes yet! ;P Yeah my mistake, I thought there were 3, was waiting for next combat round. :) It should be trapped for 9 minutes, unless it can teleport I think. It is basically a Force Wall/bubble
"Yeh, yeh, not so tough NOW are ya?!?" Justin tells the creature in a nasally voice, blue rings of energy rippling from where his finger touches the bubble.
"Heh. they HATE it when you do this." Justin smirks, tapping the force bubble again.
"Alright folks, how does everyone like their Demon-Ghost? Medium? Well done?"
Unless anyone has any moral quandries about killing an undead creature, I'm conjuring a Flame Sphere inside to keep it company. :)
